Thursday 18 March 2004

Sadler’s Wells Theatre has announced that Jean-Luc Choplin, its Chief Executive. has now left the organisation. It has been mutually agreed that he leave the Wells early to focus on preparation for his new appointment in Paris at the world-renowned Chatelet Theatre, which he takes up in 2006.
This move also allows Sadler’s Wells to bring forward the implementation of a new management structure. The Director of Programming, Alistair Spalding, has been appointed to the new position of Artistic Director (Interim) and Chrissy Sharp has joined the organisation in an interim role as General Manager. She was formerly the director of Sydney Arts Festival.

Denise Kingsmill, Chair of Sadlers Wells, said: ‘We are naturally disappointed to be losing someone of Jean-Luc’s talent but we fully understand the attraction for him of joining one of the oldest, most famous, and best funded theatres in Europe. He has made a great contribution to the life of our theatre in his time with us and we wish him every success with his new opportunity. We are of course looking forward to seeing our theatres continue to blossom throughout 2004 and beyond.’
