Obesity

Is it normal to be scared of the doctor? Vote now! >

Obesity occurs when somebody is carrying too much body fat for their height and sex and it is one of the biggest problems facing the western world. Morbid obesity is when somebody has a Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeding 40, and sufferers will frequently suffer from breathlessness, excessive sweating and joint pain. They also open themselves up to a host of additional health worries, from heart disease to breast cancer. Lack of exercise is the most common cause of obesity, but there are other causes as well, including some disorders of the thyroid gland. In most cases, the only treatment needed is a reduction in calories and increased exercise. In more extreme cases, drugs can be prescribed that suppress the sufferers appetite, and as a final resort, a gastric band can be fitted which artificially reduced the sufferers stomach size.

Low-intensity exercise, such as yoga, can be a great way to kick off your weight loss journey. You can watch a yoga weight loss tutorial video here >

I am 21 years old. I am morbidly obese I am 24 stone and have a huge ugly over hang nearly at my knees. It causes me extremely bad back pain and make it hard for me to get around. I am currently being tested for under active thyroid and have recently got bloods done for diabetes but haven't relieved the results as yet. I am on anti depressants as it is really getting me down. It is putting strain on my relationship with my boyfriend and affects my confidence there for I have anxiety and don't like to go out or socialise much. I am a classroom assistant and feel like the kids are even judging me. I want to have children in the future but I'm worried being over weight will affect this. I currently have the implant in my arm and since February 2014 I have put on 4stone. I am currently attending a slimming group but it's not coming off like I would like I have been attending since January and have only lost 1 stone. I'm always tired and have no energy . What is the best way to get a good weight loss and to keep it off?

Im 37 and had a Gastric lap band fitted Belguim back in 2010. Since then I have had my son who is now 2 yrs old and I have never gone for a fill. I would like to have the band looked at as I struggle to eat some healthy foods in particular vegetables and cous-cous and am scared that it may not have been correctly fitted. I have tried to locate the doctor who fitted it but had little joy and would like to see a London based specialist but am unsure where to start looking.

Hi I'm 26 and I have always carried too much weight. I have yoyoed for many years and I have been successful in losing the pounds. However there is a section of fat below my breasts that I just cannot get rid of. I have tried ab crunches and various other forms of exercises but nothing seems to work. This makes me very self conscious as it is visible no matter what I wear and I can't conceal it. Can someone please help me.

slimming world. It is brilliant and you will lose it.

I have Hashimoto thyroiditis and have just lost 3 stone on slimming world. I tried lots of diets before but they never worked. I would recommend slimming world to every body. Its easy and you are never hungry. It costs £5 per week and is so worth it. X

I am 65 and was put on statins. My weight started to spiral and it got to the stage where I was battling to walk. I kept asking the doctor what was going on on as I had been the same weight for 20 odd years. I stopped taking the statins and went back to the doctor and told her. I now have 20 extra kilograms and cannot get rid of it I do not know what to do. I have asked them and they say they cannot do anything about it. When I tell what I eat they say the problem is I eat too little. I feel awful and get extremely distressed looking in the mirror.

I recently discovered a condition on line called Wilson's temperature syndrome and believe it apply's to me. I have an under active thyroid, overweight, joint pain, cramps, hair thinning and periodically puffy face and hands. I monitored my body temperature over three weeks and it averaged 35.6c but never greater than 36.2c. Where can I get help for this condition please?
