Premature Greying

Going prematurely grey

Is it normal to be scared of the doctor? Vote now! >

Becoming a refined, silver-haired beauty like former newsreader, Anna Ford, or a ‘silver fox’ like Des Lynam, is perfectly acceptable with age. However, grey hair can sometimes besiege the bonces of the young, often during the teenage years. Interestingly, we all begin life with white hair, which then gets its natural colour before birth due to the formation of the pigment melanin. This subsequently gives us our beautiful and uniquely coloured flowing locks, which usually turn grey between the ages of 35-50 as part our genetic inheritance. Premature greying is often a symptom of Premature Ageing syndromes, but there are many other reasons why it occurs, such as genetic or hormonal factors; external reasons, such as climate, pollutants and toxins; or an underlying medical condition, such as poliosis, which causes localised patches of white hair, or the skin condition vitiligo. Get checked out by your GP if you’re worried. Otherwise, you can either go grey gracefully or reach for the mahogany hair colour.

Hi I see their is a lot of questions n answers about grey hairs on here each to individual cases I'm curious I'm 34 now being going grey since I was 26 my hair is 90 percent grey now I had a pacemaker fitted a couple of years ago I don't understand why it has gone grey so quickly when no1 else in the family has any grey yet. I've been told it might be down to diabetes never heard of that being true at all, I'm curious what could be causing this could it be down to blood circulation or some unknown reason ?

Hi am 13 year old girl and I have a lot of white hair strands and they are nearly everywhere. When I see white hair I usually get upset and scared that all my hair will turn white. My mum told me it's from my dad's side my brothers don't have a lot they have a few but I have a lot. Is there anything that could be done?

I am 15 year old male and my hair was light brown and now is beginning to turn more grey looking as it grows. I shower and blow dry my hair everyday I don't know if that plays a part in this. Just looking for a reason or solution. Thanks for any comments

Hello i noticed my first greys around 21 which i could get away without dyeing for about 4years, iv now just turned 28 and having to dye my hair every couple of weeks. But you can see them full beam after 5-7 days, i dont no if my hair grows really fast or if its because i have jet black hair. Is their anyone out there that has a full grey head and manages to hide it with pulling off black hair, how often do you dye it? Any tips? Just getting prepared for what im in for, i really love my black hair 😕

wow im 16 have been dying my hair for 2 yrs since i started to get grey hairs when I 9! I am supposedly olive skinned as i am mix african and european. I stopped dying it 5 months ago and it's pretty bad ive got more greys than my parents! I would also like advice since I dont want to keep dying my hair but i hate the mass amount of greys on the top of my head and am too impatient to naturally go all grey

Hi, I had the same problem 5 years ago when I was 36, and suggest you go and see your GP . I went and spoke to my GP who sent a referral to my local hospital. I then had to see a doctor at the hospital who diagnosed me with a prolapsed womb. After a long conversation and the doctor explaining everything to me, I decided that she was right and I did need surgery . After the operation to fix my prolapsed womb, I followed the after care I was given and I have had no problems since .

Hi, I am 55 and 100% grey, mine is actually genetic, from my mums side of the family, I started getting grey hairs when I was 15, and it just got more and more, I started dying my hair at the age of 16, and haven't stopped. I am getting sick of it now, also using the dye for so many years has caused alot of hair loss, at my age I am still having this hair loss problem, my hair is very thin and fine, just some advice - should I grow it all out and just keep it grey? or should I continue to dye my hair? problem is I am dark skinned, so I guess I would look odd with white hair at this age? I would look more like a 60-70 year old. I am of very small built, short and skinny. not sure what I should do.the thing is if I keep on dying my hair I run the risk of losing more and more hair, if I stop now hopfully the hair loss will stop. would appreciate any advice, and thoughts about this, and also if there are anyone else out there with the same problem as me and the same age.
