Urinary Incontinence

Filling the bladder

Urinary incontinence is passing urine when you do not mean to because of partial or total loss of control of the bladder. It is estimated that 3-6 million people in the UK have some degree of incontinence, which becomes more common with age, but does not only affect older people. It’s twice as common in women as men and is more common in women after giving birth. Incontinence means that either the muscles, or the nerve supply, are not working properly to control your bladder. The two main types of urinary incontinence are: stress incontinence (a small amount of urine leaks out during physical activity), and urge incontinence (the bladder empties completely). However, there are a number of treatments available. Pelvic floor exercises (or Kegel exercises) can be performed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, or patients can be referred for electric stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles to increase their strength. There are also a variety of surgical procedures available.

Im 21 years old and i leak small amounts of wee each day. I wear pads everyday. It sometimes causes leaks when i cough or sneeze but only 50% of the time not every time sometimes it will happen from standing to sitting or other way. Sometimes i dont feel small bits leaking but when i do its a horrible feeling. This problem only started 2 months after my 19th birthday and im 22 soon. I have been to the doctors and hospitals for tests and its all coming back normal. Starting to get annoyed and just wanting answers now

I'm 24 and constantly leaking small amounts of urine. Sometimes when I'm not even doing any physical activity. I'll go to the toilet and think I've emptied my bladder fully (I'll spend ages on the toilet) then go back to my desk, sit down and leak. I haven't had any children but used to wet the bed until the age of 17. Help, what's wrong with me?

Hi, I had a similar problem myself, it had been progressively getting worse over the space of a few years, my gp eventually referred me to urology at my local hospital where I was eventually diagnosed with a condition called "bladder neck dysssnergia" the journey to this diagnosis involved many tests some quite uncomfortable but don't be put off, there is medication available which may help with it and failing that an operation. Unfortunately in my case due to other issues it's not that straight forward. But good luck with it and hope things are better for you soon :-)

I'm 62 I'm passing. Wee every. 10 to. 15 miuns. First. Time. Last. Night. I weed. The bed and I've a pain in my. Right. Side which. Seems. To. Ache. All time

I am 17 years old, I am gaining weight because I am unable to excercise as I have a very weak bladder, and many activities cause me to lose control of my bladder. I thought that it was quite unusual because of my age. Does anyone know what I could do?
