Vaginal Discharge

Test for the presence of vaginal discharge

Is it normal to be scared of the doctor? Vote now! >

It’s perfectly normal for all women to experience vaginal discharge. However, this nugget of information will be of little comfort to you if your handbag is a repository for clean pairs of ‘emergency knickers’. Vaginal discharge usually begins just before puberty and ends after the menopause. Effectively this is your vagina cleaning itself. Normal discharge is clear, white or creamy and may give off a musky smell, but it’s not unpleasant. You may notice the amount changing from time to time and getting heavier just before your period. Sexual arousal or pregnancy may also bring an increase. However, if your discharge becomes thicker and has a consistency rather like cottage cheese, then you may have a bacterial infection such as thrush. And if it’s a greenish yellow colour then it may be more serious and could be a symptom of gonorrhoea or trichomoniasis. And be warned: chlamydia may also cause a change in your vaginal discharge.

Hi, I'm a 26 year old female and have had the same sexual partner for 8 months. We have regular sex and he sometimes makes me squirt clear, odourless liquid from my urethra by roughly pressing on the front wall of my vagina. He did this two days ago, followed the next day by quite a long session of sexual intercourse. I then noticed yesterday that I had constant, clear vaginal discharge. At first I though it was the urethral stuff I get during sex, but it's definitely vaginal. I have visited the loo since, my knickers have been soaked. There's no odour, it's just normal discharge but loads of it! I have just woken up and there is a wet patch in the bed. Could rough sex have caused swelling which is pushing on the glands? The only other thing which is different is that my doctor prescribed antibiotics last week for recurring UTIs (although I am currently clear of one), I have just been taking one Trimethoprim tablet after sexual intercourse - I've taken about 5 tablets in the last 8 days. I'm on the pill but have been for years so nothing has changed in that regard. Does excessive, odourless, clear discharge seem like anything to worry about in this case? If it continues it's definitely going to be annoying!

Im 13 and have discharge but its thick but not like cottage cheese , it has a weird smell but sometimes it can be fishy. I use the scented panty liners and it works a bit. I read something about wearing skinny jeans and i wear them all the time. Ive checked my underwear and theyre 100% cotton. I sleep naked all the time but im worried if i have an infection and i dont want to go to the doctors.

Hi I'm 25, I have a normal discharge, the colour and consistancy hasn't changed but I have noticed the smell has dramatically changed, I have been tested for STI and I'm all clear. Could this just be a bacterial thing? What could I do?

I have an irregular period but I had it 2 days after we had intercourse. and I didn't have my period last month but ever since we done it I've had constant vaginal discharge. Could I be pregnant?

Hi, im seventeen. I am still a virgin. And currently, i have a green mucus color discharge when i wipe. And on my underwear, its smeared with some blood. I used to have what looked like a yeast infection 2 months ago. Cottage cheese and elastic clear discharge. I used yeast medication. 2 months after that yeast infection, i thought i had yeast again because the discharge was clear and elastic, and it was itchy I used yeast medication again. I also tried really hard to keep it dry down there. Now i have light green mucus discharge and blood on my undies after this infection/medication use. I haven't had my period yet either. I usually get it at the end if the month. Its been irregular a lot. What can i do to stop it? And what could it be? I am really worried.
