Episode Guide

Episode 2

Patients seen by the doctors in Episode 2 included 30-year-old Jo, whose Psoriasis was ruining her social life, whilst 72-year-old Bryan’s damaged penis was in need of a re-cut!

Also in the clinic this week was Faye, who was desperate to shake off the condition that earned her the name ‘Sweaty Betty’. Meanwhile Big Brother 8 ‘star’ Shabnam dropped in to see the doctors about her incredibly itchy scalp, while bunions were the bane of one patient.

There was also time for the Birmingham University Hockey Club to learn how to carry out a thorough breast examination from Dr Harper…

Namaste I have had Sarcoidosis for at least 13 years. My rheumatologist put me on a course of an antibiotic called minocycline and a drug called allopurinol, which is usually used for gout. All my dark spots have faded to white and my gums are no longer receding or flaring up. A dermatologist I was seeing was surprised and impressed with the result saying I was only the 2nd person he had seen with a positive result. I no longer have to see him. I do not have the minocycline now but will be taking allopurinol for life, which is okay as I have no side effect from it. Hoping this is of value.

cyclosporin

Please can someone help. My partner has psoriosis which has spread to every part of his body other than his face at present. Over the past 3 months the condition has become more severe to the point that even trying to sit down is causing pain as the skin continually cracks. He looks like he has first degree burns all over his body and it is reducing him to tears. Our sex life is now under threat too as the condition is now not only around his genitals but has also made its way onto the actual shaft of his penis and is causing pain. He is becoming so self conscious and his self esteem is under threat. He works in the military and really cannot afford for this to take over his life in the way in which it is does. He has tried many creams that have been prescribed by the military doctors but none have helped. My bed sheets have to be changed and washed daily as he bleeds through the night. I too am becoming stressed as our household consists of two teenagers one 5 year old disabled little boy and an extremely demanding 3 year old that doesn't allow her dad to rest at all. We are at breaking point now and need someone from the outside to help save our family. Please. It is breaking my heart to see the extent of which the skin cells are reproducing. He has a shower and moisturises, within seconds some of the skin is covered in thick scales and other parts remain like burns so painful to even touch. Please help us xx

Many thanks for everyones kind and helpful comments.... I was fortunate enough to have phototherapy which worked wonderfully! I had 3 treatments a week for around 2/3 months and I couldnt be happier.... Although I have slight pigmentation on my skin from where the lesions were at their worst... I have finally got my confidence back :-) enough so that I have been taking my son swimming every week which is a HUGE achievment for myself! The only problem now is my scalp as the treatment didnt clear it...

Hi Nicola, I was just wondering at what stage they gave you light treatment? I have been using creams for 6 years now, and they have stopped working !! Did you ask for it, or did they hospital suggest it?? Thanks

Hi Kate, Id been using creams for years and like you they stopped working.... I went to my G.P and told him, he them suggested referring me to a Dermatologist, who then referred me to have phototherapy! It did take a while but well worth the wait!! All I know is you have to have a certain amount of psosriasis coverage to allow them to do it..... I also remember the phototherapy nurse saying they do some sort of bath treatment, which im not entirely sure what it is but might be worth asking about. Hope this helps

I am using CLARELUX for scale and it has helped me.

Hi Regarding Itchy scalp in this episode- the doctor told the girl she had some sort of bacteria..would you please know the name? didnt catch the word..And also what antibiotic they gave her? Many thanks

I have had psoriasis since being a child and now I'm 20 its at its worst. I have large scaley lesions everywhere, from my scalp to my face to my legs. Ive tried numerous creams from tars to steriod creams but nothing seems to work! I have been referrred to see a dermatologist but the appointment is not for another 10 weeks and I am in so much pain as its continuously itchy, sore and bleeds quite a bit. Is there anything that anyone knows that I can use to calm it down until I see the dermatologist as its really getting me down. Many Thanks

I have the same problem and it is also driving me mad. I am taking 3 a day of neem and sarsaparilla, 2 of omega 3 and 3 of quercitin all of which I got from a health food shop. They are expensive but I think have helped a bit with the itching. I am hoping to have some uvb treatment at the hospital which worked for a bit the last time i tried that treatment, 15 years ago. I dont think the steroid or non steroid creams tha tyou get from the doctor make any difference at all apart from making you more depressed by looking at yourself whilst you are putting the cream on. I dont really know what else to suggest, I haev tried it all! I am seeing a homeopath as a last resort at the moment as he helped hugely with my asthma. Anything is worth a try. Good luck with it.

hello i have weak bladder for 2years now sins i had baby is there anythink that can help and i have vacoss veins on leg sins i was 19
