Conditions with symptom: 'abcess'
hi, about a week ago i started to get pain around my anus area, it got worse and i noticed a lump/bump on the edge of my anus/perenuim, so i visited my GP who recommended i go straight to the hospital as she said it was a abcess...the doctor on duty at the hopital also said it was a abcess and i waited for my op...when the surgeon came round after the op he said he couldnt find an abcess just a little clot of blood which he drained off(using a syringe i assume i got no wound?, now ime home im still in pain and whilst showering i can still feel the original lump that I went with...is it possible the surgeon(who I never even met before) missed the abcess and found a clot and thought it was "job done" or will the lump take time to go? HELP!!!!!
Hi, i have recently come out of hospital with the same thing..if you look at it and see that it may have a purple or darkish colour on top of the lump with rednes around it i would surggest you go back to the hospital straight away.. i had mine on and off for 12months and four days before i went to the hospital mine went really sore and was hard to go to the toilet.. when i got to the hospital they said it was a penanal abcess that had grown 5x5cm+ depth.. the surgeon had to op and now i have a hole that i have to see the nurse everyday to have it packed and patched which is more painful than havin it in the first place... so the sooner you go the better it will be for you.. i hope this helps and hope it gets sorted soon for you.. x
I had the same thing as the first person that answered, and I wish I had known before the op how painful it was going to be having it packed everyday until it healed, problem is because it is so close to the anus, I am still have problems with it now, had op last Oct 2011, mine keeps getting infected because of where it is, and it is so sore and unconfortable, been to see my doc and there is nothing else they can do, just have to keep it clean and dry, and because of where it is, that is very hard....I have suffered with these for a long time having both my armpits removed over 10 years ago, and for them to come back where they have around the groin area is an absolute nightmare, I wish there was something to stop them for good.....
I have had reoccurrent BV and Thrush ever since having PID at the age of 15 which developed into a tubo-ovarian abcess. Ever since this abcess I have non stop problems. I have cut out sugar, had all the antibiotics and been on lactic acid gel (balance active) and none of it has worked. My gynaecologist has no idea why it keeps reoccurring and I have now lost so many jobs and had to stop my education because of the pain I'm left in! I need help!
i have swelling to my hip and hell of a lot of pain, but the doctors are saying its an abcess of only 5mm can you please tell me how to get rid of it?
i keep getting these big abcess type spots but all over my buttox and groind area why and what can be done about it
you may want to check your symptoms against those for hidradenitis suppurativa. this condition is centred around the groin area (along with armpits)

It is still draining and I have to go every day to have it repacked and the bag changed (I have a child size colostimay bag on). They have said this will go on for about 4 weeks . At the moment I have a huge hole, gap in my right breast . Will it be hugley scared after and missshapen ?
my husband had a perodenal abcess op done last september can a trauma inside possibly be caused my the gadgets the nurses use to measure the depth being pushed way too hard 5 days after surgery cos my hubby wont heal 9 mths later and 6 cms has only gone to 4 cms??
i suffer from abcesses really bad that when 1 has gone another re appears, when i had mine removed i was told to use a type of aquacel packing which contains silver nitrate and often helps the healing. i agree with the previous answer to try and not pack it as much and also if you havent got that type of aquacel i would try and get it from your doctors i hope this helps
Hi Maggie. I wouldn't have thought the probing would harm the healing... what may happen (and all wounds are different) Is the wound could be backed to tightly, or "over dressed" so it will only go to a certain point. Towards the enf of my first one, granted it was smaller than your husband the nurses began to use less packing and pack it looser, they also used silver nitrate (ow!) over the edges to stop it over granulating... i'm not sure if that may help in your husbands case? I think if you're not getting the help from your Dr or Consultant it may be an idea to search for local wound care centres in your area as they would be able to offer you further help. Hope this helped.
