Hi, 2 years ago i had a smell of bonfire smoke up my nose, 6 months on it went and i was left with no sense of smell or taste. I sometimes have a strange taste of metal in my mouth. I cannot taste anything or even smell the strongest of smells. I have seen a specialist and he offered me steroid sprays and tablets, neither worked, I went back he put a camera up my nose, this made me faint and the only observation he came up with was that I had small nasal passage. He said my sense of smell and taste would come back in time. It hasnt and I am at my wits end with it all. Please can you give me any advice?? Kind regards, Sharan Berry

My discharge has always been normal but I recently tasted my discharge, because I'm always self conscience when my boy friend gives me oral. My discharge has this sour taste that has never been there before. This has been going on for at least three weeks now. My discharge has no smell and my vagina doesn't itch or anything out of the ordinary but this sour taste. I want to know what I can do so it can return to it's original taste.

Hello I am 22, and for the last couple of years I was told I had bad breath by my partner occasionally. I think the problem could be my digestive system. It could be GERD but not sure as I read it affects mostly older and overweight people but I'm quite tall and slim. My posture is not that great cause I am 6'2'' and often have to look down, also I have sunken chest which is not as bad as some cases I've seen but noticeable. I've read that can be an issue regarding acid reflux. When I was a child I had a friend who had bad back and didn't have pillows on her bed and I got into a habit of not putting my head on a pillow when sleeping. Recently I've slept with pillows but my partner says that in the night my head often hangs down at the edge of the bed which is likely to be causing the stomach juices to flow into my esophagus and mouth. Because when I put my head on a pillow I feel like I can't breath as my head is sinking into the pillow. And sometimes it causes bad breath in the morning. I often have alcohol like beers and wine and eat various foods, large portions, and often get very full. I've had bitter taste in my mouth for the last few days and last night I had a big meal with lots of alcohol and this morning with the bad taste in my mouth I also have a burning sensation in the esophagus. Can someone tell me what it is, is it GERD or some other acid reflux problem, How should I change my diet and lifestyle. Thanks Ante

Hello, I am a 25 year old male. Recently a sexual partner of mine told me she had some kind of infection which made it difficult for her to urinate without some discomfort. This came about shortly after we had oral sex for the first time. On my side, I have noticed an odd taste from the back of my mouth a couple of days after. It is very strong when I swallow. The taste I have is not a bad one as such, I just never had it before. Now though, about two weeks on I am (finally) beginning to wonder if the taste is connected with the oral sex experience. It was my first time to do it so I did not know what to expect so I can not comment on how it should taste. Am I likely to have caught something she had but didn't know about while my gallivanting downstairs, in essence, pushed it to give her the urinary discomfort? I will be getting myself checked out within the next week, I just thought I would ask here as I am curious to say the least. Thanks btw: To the site designers, I wanted to pose this question under the bad breath symptom but the site does not allow such a thing.

I suffer from a bleachy, metallic taste in the mouth, which seems to come from the taste buds every time I eat or drink, and it's like swallowing poison. It's intermittant, and sometimes I'm fine for a week, and then it's back again. Anyone has any ideas?

I can taste palma violets in my mouth. Is this normal?

I regularly get a taste of ammonia in the back of my throat (3-5 times a week - anytime) - I have had tonsil problems for years, in that they are permanently enlarged, I have breathing problems and snore loudly. I also suffer from heartburn quite often, although not so much lately, so I am wondering if these problems could be related. I have found recently that the taste comes after I have gulped down a drink but it is very irregular. My partner says he can't smell it but the taste for me is really pungent and overpowering. I can even feel it in the back of my nose. There is no pain associated but the regularity of this problem has become a cause of concern. It started about 4 months ago.

you need to get your tonsils removed through surgery, it's possible they may have some sort of infection which isn't tonsillitus. the important thing to know is that the tonsils are a part of the body that are not needed for anything, they're basically useless. all they do is get infected, getting them removed will be beneficial to you, a lot of children get them remeoved when they're young if they have suffered from tonsilitus more than twice, and will probably solve your problem! it's a scary thought but theres nothing to be affraid of trust me! good luck

I'm 23 and had my tonsilis removed a few days ago. Since then anything sweet that I eat or drink taste horrible even brushing my teeth leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. What has cause this and how can it be fixed?

try this.after you brush your teeth, put a little amount of hydrogen peroxide in a glass of water.(1:1)then without rinsing your mouth, dip the toothbrush in the mixture of water and hp.brush your whole mouth, tongue, sides and at the back of your tongue.then use the remaining mixture to gargle.you can drink water with lemon or ginger, peppermint tea after that.

My discharge has changed in taste... it has always been sweet in taste but now tastes bitter? It smells the same and has not changed in colour... what should I do?

I have the exact same problem. I have acid reflux and this sensation of something stuck in my throat, bad taste and bad breath. Whenever I eat or drink something acidic, fizzy or sugary, the taste and smell worsens as soon as it hits the back of my throat/tongue) Sometimes even water creates a worsening taste and smell. What does help alleviate the problem is cutting down on sugary stuff (almost cutting out completely) and taking vitamins, aloe vera juice and probiotics regularly (oral and stomach probiotics). The aloe vera juice has actually improved my acid reflux so it's barely noticeable any more. I also gargle with bicarbonate of soda twice a day to balance the PH in my mouth because I think our mouths are acidic and dry from the acid reflux and therefore a perfect breeding ground for bad bacteria. Try those things and let me know how you get on. And take in enough fluids (not caffeine or alcohol as these are drying agents) during the day so that your mouth isn't overly dry.

Has anyone ever had a cool like taste in there mouth from the acid reflux? I have had this for over a week and it come and goes.

hi im a 20 year old male and i have suffered from extreamly bad breath and tonsil stones for about 6 years now, and i just cant cope anymore i wake up every morning with a white coating on my tongue i also have enlarged taste buds at the back of my tongue which i have been told is normal even though i never had this before. im only 20 and im so frustrated at the fact im not able to enjoy being young and do the things i should be doing like all my mates are atm, ive been to the gp time and time again but i dont think there too sure of the root of the problem but ive been pushed from pillar to post and eventually i started to get somewhere (i thought anyway) the gp finally referred me to an ent specialist after pretty much begging him and the ent specialist took one look in my mouth and saw my tonsils had cavities he said they had to come as he thinks they are the cause a month or so later i got a cancellation appointment for my surgery as it was a cancelation it was done through another consultant (not the one who said my tonsils had to be removed) and basically on the day of sugery she refused to do a tonsilectomy as she didnt think this was the cause of my problem she believed that the white tongue was being caused by stomach acid e.g when your lying down at night the acid comes up into your mouth and can get into the tonsil cavities and even after scrubbing the coating off in the morning after a few hours the bad taste comes back she says that acid comes up even during the day which is why i am getting recurring bad breath i just dont know what to do anymore no one seems to know the answer i just want my life back and im tempted to go on the show (as much as i dont want to due to the embarrisment of my problem) but at least i would get to speak to people who has sensible answers!

I have tonsil stones and don't know how to get rid of them. I have a good oral and dental hygiene but I can constantly taste them at the back of my throat. I've tried scraping them, gargling. it helps but only temporarily and within a week or so I have the same bad taste in my mouth and I know (by people's reaction and by the taste)that my breath smells. It makes me feel really uncomfortable and I really don't know what to do anymore. Thanks.

I now have no taste or smell, I have in the past had polyps removed several times. I asked my doctor to refer me back to ENT and I said I now had no taste and smell and they just said it was becauseI had polyp operations. Does that mean for the rest of my life I will never smell or taste again. I am now 59 years old. Is there anything that can be done for me to regain the above?

I wonder how your blood pressure is? Also, if I were your doctor I'd send you to a cardiologist for stress test and heart imaging. This would rule out problems with arteries, too.

Hi I'm wondering if you've had your thyroid tested its a simple blood test? Ask yr GP do you have palpitations atall? You're thyroid is in lower part of yr neck around windpipe? Just a suggestion I had same feelings and been told I have hyperthyroid disorder, I'm awaiting hospital app? Hope you find what's wrong :-)

It might be due to LOW stomach acid - It seems very strange to many people to hear this as it is counter intuitive, but it is well worth getting Dr. Jonathan Wright's book 'Why Stomach Acid is Good for you' (or search you-tube for him talking about acid reflux. His book explains the symptoms and effects of low stomach acid and how to go about treating it. You can find the book on Amazon for about £9.00

Someone that i know for a very long time who is not really a medical doctor told to speak to my Doctor about it. He told me to tell the doctor that have going to the Dentist for two years, i brush twice daily and the bad breath doesn't seem to go that it might an internal problem. I told my doctor precisely what he told me and the doctor did test. they discover that i suffer from Helicobacter pylori and am on medication know is working but i still have bad breath. my doctor has suggested that they check my throat dowm to my stomach to see what is happening and give me best cause of action. i suggest that people with bad breath sholud go to their and complaint and don't let them talk you out of it.

The smells not over powering but when I have received oral sex and they go to kiss me I can taste a disturbing taste in my mouth. I have already had tablets for thrush, it went for a little bit and came back soon enough. Help anyone?

Hi. I have a white 'spongy' substance on my tongue and I can't taste anything I eat, as it covers my taste buds. When I attempt to scrape it off it smells awful. My sense of smell has also been affected. Can you possibly advise me how to get rid of it please?
