Hey guys. Know I'm not as bad as some people here but need to ask some advice. I'm 24 and was diagnosed with IBS at the age of 21. This suprised me, as I used to have a reliable stomach. Having tried a lot of different treatments, I'm now on amitriptyline which is helping no end but I've come to the conclusion that I may have a prolapse, as I feel a protrusion whenever I go to wipe. I'm now of the opinion that I don't have IBS, but a prolapse caused by years of straining on the toilet. The doctors have had a look but they didn't see anything. I have read that it is possible to have a normal exam whilst having a prolapse but my gp has told me to wait for 6 months and see how I do. Not sure what to do now, truely believe I have a prolapse or something similar but not sure where to go next. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks

hi ,the same thing was happening me for a few months i wasnt sure what it was ,so i decided to take a digital camera with me when i went to the bathroom, and when i felt the protrusion i took a few pictures because my doctor also could not see anything,i brought the camera to the doctors and it was a prolapse ,just an idea, hope this helps

I just recommend you go to a colo-rectal surgeon who perfoms prolapse surgery and ask him to determine if you have it.

I am 25- I have recently had a baby and I am now suffering from moderate bladder prolapse. (I had rotational forceps and an episiotomy). I have been doing pelvic floor exercises for the last few weeks after discovering the prolapse. (I was completely oblivious to the need to do them pre/post-natally before that). The pelvic floor exercises don't seem to be working much, and I am worrying that the prolapse is actually getting worse. If I have prolapse surgery would that prevent me from giving birth vaginally in the future? Would it impact on sexual function/sensation?

I would speak to your Dr and ask for physiotherapy training. Lots of women with pelvic organ prolapse aren't able to identify their pelvic floor muscles properly. A pessary may help support the prolapse. NHS offer a limited range of pessaries (mainly the ring is prescribed but there are others available from medical companies. I would recommend the T pessary as this was designed for cystocele and rectocele prolapses. As they come in all sizes you will need to be measured by your Dr first.

do you keep weeing? You may need uro dynamics to diagnose the bladder prolapse properly. A TVT can rectify this problem.

About a week ago I noticed a lump on my right anal cheek. It started growing bigger and becoming painful. It now has 'opened' and bleeds and has pus coming out of it at times. It does this a few times a day now. Is this due to a anal abscess? I dont know how I could have gotten an anal abscess or this if it is this. Could someone please tell me how I got whatever this is and if I will need surgery or if a GP can do something.

I feel totally lost and don't know what to do - I am almost 60 and have had a long history of problems starting with very painful periods from the age of 12 several D & C ops in my 20's difficult childbirth, ovarian cyst, Endometriosis, total hysterectomy and ovaries removed at 33 Further operations prolapse bladder, colon, vaginia - now severe diverticulitis which meant part of my colon was removed 3 years ago. Since then my life has been hell. I suffer from painful bowel movements every day - fissures that never heal! blood in my stools, blood clots, now painful urination and sex is history. It is too sore and painful. I live on a diet of lactulose, suppositries,, veg soup and fruit but it does not heal even with all the creams etc. What is wrong with my body? It is sore, painful and embarrassing and costing me a lot of money to get help only to be told it is polyps or another anal prolapse - Can you help or tell me who can help me?

I have a prolapse of the front vaginal wall. The effects are not distressing. I have some mild urinary incontinence caused by a weakened pelvic floor after having 4 kids. If I keep up the exercises then the leakage is minimised to when I have a full bladder and cough/jump on a trampoline. The prolapse does not cause me discomfort and sex is still good for me and my husband. I am overweight, almost obese and I know losing weight would be good for both the mild incontinence and prolapse. I would like to avoid surgery for as long as possible. It is not convenient at this time in my life nor are the symptoms that bad. Does anyone have any experience of using vaginal weights or vaginal electro exercisers and how effective they are? Are they approriate for some-one with vaginal prolapse? Where do I find a reputable supplier?

I have a problem and anal prolapse seems to be the closest to it. My anal passage seems to be collapsing into my vagina and it makes going to the toilet difficult as there always is some excrement trapped in the collapsed part. I have found that I can use a finger in my vagina to push the bulge backwards and this helps but is rather unpleasant to have to do! Is there any option other than surgery to resolve this?

To anyone suffering with prolapse, please, please, please visit www.wholewoman.com or check out Christine Kent's clip on You Tube (search Pelvic Organ Prolapse or first aid for prolapse). Surgery is NOT the way to deal with prolapse, (as confirmed by other posts on here) nor are kegels (pelvic floor exercises). WW posture really does work, I had prolapse for many years and have found this site to be invaluable for advice, useful tips and support.

i am 32 and just went for my smear, i have been having trouble with leakage , it happens all day long and ive had it happening for about a year now, my doctor says i have a prolapse , what is the best option to right this? i am constantly changing my underware and am very concious and uncomfortable around people in case i start to smell, even though i use feminine hygine products .

I think i have had an anal prolapse for a few months now. When i go to make a bowel movement, i sometimes do not pass anything. also when i am cleaning myself it feels a bit abnormal. Do i have to go see a doctor about it?

Some Dr's find it difficult to diagnose a prolapse. The best way is to bear down for 8 seconds and observe, however it still may not be as obvious lying down as it is when you are sitting or standing up and gravity is acting downwards. A pelvic health physio can diagnose prolapse and help with painful sex. Here are some tips to start managing your prolapse immediately http://pelvichealthphysio.blogspot.ca/2013/10/pelvic-organ-prolapse-part-1.html

Your consultant should discuss the procedure with you, I had prolapse surgery the end of last year and it was all done vaginally.

Hi, I have a problem with my vulva and vaginal lips, I believe I have a prolapse as my vulva is very swollen looking and hangs down and the lips are very stretched hanging so much that they rub on my underwear and get very sore and itchy and i also tend to suffer from cysts in the area also. The reason i think I have a prolapse is because even though I have had an hysterectomy when I was 31 I have difficulty getting feaces out of my anal canal, I have to sometimes resort to doing it manually. I am a 48 yr old woman with 3 grown up children, and have been single for 18yrs, I am so embarrased about what I look like down below, I have been to my gp (male)about this problem, when the doctor examined me (with female Nurse present)he told me to go home and forget about it, but the nurse did not hide the look of horror as she looked at my underneath, this is very depressing and embarrasing. I asked the dr for a referral but he said no. Please can you advise. Thankyou

If your GP or Consultant recommends the fitting of mesh or tape, although these ops can be fine, may I suggest that you ask many questions before accepting it, in particular about problems that can arise, and what they can and can't do about it if it goes wrong.

Pelvic organ prolapse is the most common women’s health disorder of the developed world. It is estimated that more than half of all women who have given birth experience some level of prolapse. For the past century radical pelvic surgery has been the only conventional treatment for prolapse. Yet, these conditions are not cured by surgery, but often traded for chronic pain, bowel and bladder dysfunction, sexual loss, and emotional devastation. Women the world over are stabilising and reversing their symptoms naturally. learn to live well with prolapse - www.wholewoman.com Also, search on Youtube for Christine Kent's 'first aid for prolapse'.

you mentioned something is in the way, have you had an examination for a prolapse ? prolapse can happen at an age even from simple constipation and it is only now you are aware of a physical obstruction. the other comments on here about your bone and seeing orthapeedic doctor is also good suggestion. but also get looked at for prolapse as this could be another problem you have as a prolapse bladder or womb or retum has this sensation. Am coming down on the side of others comments that this is nothing to do with vaginismus as the symptoms you mention are not as clear cut as vaginismus because you can have intercourse but are aware of a bone or something internal physically being in the way. agree with others if it is the pelvic or pubic bone which you say it is you need to speak to someone specialising in bones because I think you may have just homed in on vaginismus and be way off base. you need to get 4 opinions re 1= the bone, 3 = prolapse possibilities.

Thank you for your help. I do appreciate the advice. I don’t think it is a prolapse as I feel no different from normal and I have no issues with tampons or even the vagiwave. When we are trying to have sex and I feel myself it is like the bone is blocking any flexibility at the front, but pushing down or left and right is really really tight. My boyfriend can fit a finger, maybe two in sideways, but vertical the bone is there and the skin is extremely tight at the bottom around the entrance and there is no give. It’s like the pubic bone is there, but if I wasn’t tight, there wouldn’t be an issue. When we were having sex I can’t say it was comfortable, but nothing like this. It was possible at least. As you turn your fingers from horizontal to vertical, just inside the entrance, one finger will push against the bone, the other into a tight area of skin and then it’s ouch! I hope that maybe describes it better. I’m sorry if I’m vague but it’s hard to describe.

Since January 2011 I have read hundreds of articles from medical websites on various prolapse, either being uterine, cystocele, rectocele etc.. what I found is lots of information on why the prolapse happens, types of prolapse, kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, no heavy lifting etc. Since there are over 250 surgical procedures for prolapse some are done vaginally either with or without mesh, some are done through incisions, well the list is endless, what the doctors are not telling us is the actual success rate as with so many horror stories that surgery can fix a prolapse it can also introduce other issues that may require further surgery and or the operations may not be successful - Thousands of women have prolapse it is hidden from others, it is not being discussed, there is no awareness, no support prolapse groups or websites. GP's do not have the time to go through potential prolapse with women that started menopause or gone through menopause cause that is the danger zone when prolapse is likely to happen. Surgeons are too keen to go down the surgery route almost straight away, unless proper examinations including MRI scanning of the pelvic anatomy is done to determine what caused the prolapse to ensure there is nothing cynical happening and to treat each woman with prolapse individually fully explaining what is going on with her body, the risks of surgery and success rate must be discussed. Surgery is not the godsend fix that many are singing about - prolapse can return - Would be very constructive to hear from those women who underwent prolapse surgery either successful or not.. lets open up this hidden medical topic..

In 2009 i had a TVT repair done, initially it worked and then a year later i felt wrong down there and had started leaking again, i went back to GP and was told that i have a front vaginal wall prolapse and the TVT was not working as it could of possible slipped. i then underwent surgery again in Nov 2010, another 6 weeks of work only for me to feel something go wrong on Boxing day. Back to hospital who then confirmed that the Urethra was ahyper mobile hence pain in intercourse and now my back wall had gone and pulled front down with it. so more surgery is pending. Am constantly uncomfortable and intercourse hurts, cannot use tampax anymore as it irritates. so am hoping that this time they stitch me up alot better than before an after 3 attempts it could be 3rd time lucky.and yet another bout of recovery. main cause of this is overweight and mother of twins.

I have got a prolapse bladder and a prolapse bowel when I go to number 2s it comes out like a load of tiny stones is this normal with a prolapse bowel

Dear Jenny,do you open your bowels every day?Are you on any regular strong painkillers?or medications as some meds have the tendency to constipate you. Also check your diet.A well balanced diet will help. I think what you can do at present is to increase your fluid intake, add fruits like melons, and all the berries which are high in water and soluble fibre. If this does not help, speak to your GP.

From what i have read anal warts they can appear months after getting the virus, anal sex doesnt matter it only takes skin to skin contact to contract the virus. I also found that anal skin tags can look pretty similar to anal warts, so i wouldnt jump to conclusions until u see a doctor, but be aware you could infect other people. Hope i helped a little.
