Tracks or lines of bites often 3 in a row are common. Try having a look online at pictures of bed bug rashes.

If it's bed bugs you should be able to find them. The bugs tend to hide in the seams of the mattress or on the back of the headboard. Look for little black dots that look like ink. They can hide in gaps the thickness of paper so they squeeze out the waste from the blood they have consumed before hiding.

I moved into a new house six months ago and started to get bitten.pest control came and sprayed the bedrooms/ front room even though they could find no signs of bedbugs? I've not found so much as a blood spot ,fesease, or eggs it's only the bites which are usually in three. Anyway the bites did stop after the treatment. But now I'm starting to get bitten again!!! There are three other people in the house and it's only me getting bitten. I've been to the doctors and she said they are deffinatly bites?? HELP, IM GOING MAD!!!!!

I am prone to insect bites.midges and horseflies the bites become very inflamed and end up as open wounds they take many months to heal if at all, leaving scarring, even scratches and small cuts take forever to heal leaving unsightly marks on the skin especially on the arms and leg, hydrocortisone cream makes them worse antifungal cream seems to have no effect any Ideas ?

I have red spots that look like itchy bites that appear daily anywhere on my body, legs, arms, groin, tummy, bottom, eye lids, neck etc... they disappear by the end of the day and then reappear the next morning but in completely different places, some mornings there are more than others, they are a bit itchy but not insanely itchy, and sometimes they are in a round shape with white in the middle but mostly just red spots. I can't see any bite marks on them. I can't figure out what they are it's driving me crazy, the doctor just thinks they're bites. I have searched for bed bugs in my mattress and haven't found anything, have insect bombed our house twice & vacuumed the house & mattress & washed all blankets in hot water etc... and I'm still getting them. Also I'm the only one in the house getting them. Does anyone know what they could be??

I would get the doctor to do an allergy test.

I had a row of bites along my shoulders early February, I put it down to staying in hotels as I stay in the US regularly.. However since then I have been getting red spots on my face, shoulders, legs and buttocks. No real pattern and occasionally in a row, these spots are not as prominent as the initial bites i recieved. I have had bed bug experts In who found no traces of bugs, and saw no reason to treat my bedroom. I have white sheets and have found no evidence myself, I feel quite frustrated now as I feel they are happening more frequently. Is it possible something else could be causing this? Ive been convinced for a while it's bed bugs but have no proof.. This has been going on 4 months, I'd love to eradicate them if it is bugs. Definitely not good for my stress levels! Any advice would be appreciated.

The inspection was for an hour by a reputable company.. I have had DE on my carpet and bed frame for two weeks now thinking that I may kill something and have evidence, but nothing.. Still no blood, bugs, bug poo or cast skins.. The spots only seem to appear after I sleep in my own bedroom. They are not generally itchy and disappear quickly but are predominantly on my face shoulders, legs and butt.. Never on my arms or hands. I have ran a credit card under the skirting board.. I've lifted the frame and inspected it thoroughly with a flashlight.. After four months should they not be more visible? I'm in a fairly new apartment with not so much furniture so I guess not many places to hide. I'm considering getting a treatment done despite no evidence, just for piece of mind. I'm out of ideas what might be causing these spots. I hope it's not bugs but don't want the problem to get worse, or spread the problem to friends/ or my partners houses. I don't really want to spend £300 if it's not them.. Has anyone had similar problems of no evidence after several months?

Hi Lee, How long was the inspection for ? You need to have another look yourself and pay particular attention to the underside of the base of your bed, headboard/under side tables/pleats of the curtains/ skirting board. You are looking for something that closely resembles an apple pip, they will be very easy to see. If you find any signs ensure that you employ a pest expert that specialises in bed bugs and provides a guarantee of eradication. Allow no longer than 7 days for the treatment to be completed. After the first treatment ( and you should receive 2-3 ) you should not be bitten. * I'm a bed bug technician in Australia ! Regards

In October 2011 I got bites all over my bottom cheeks (maybe 20 or so in close clusters) and a few on my upper legs. I got them diagnosed as Bed Bug bites and I was told they would go within a few weeks, or maybe, at most, a few months. They were unbelievably itchy, and so in the meantime I was told to use hydrocortizine cream and take antihistamine tablets, which did indeed reduce the itchyness. SEVEN months have passed now and I still have very pronounced, very hard bumps on my bottom in exactly the same places - note that no 'new' marks have come, but the same ones have remained. They are no longer as itchy, but they are uncomfortable and the skin around that area gets very dry, which in turn does encourage me to itch, but this can be relieved (temporarily!) by simply moisturising. I went back to the doctor maybe a month or so ago to ask why these lumps has remained and he told me to continue waiting and they will go down. However, surely after SEVEN MONTHS something strange is going on? I am exasperated with these awful bumps and need an answer to get rid of them!

It's almost impossible for a doctor to diagnose bed bug bites without you showing them the bug itself. There are so many variables that can cause itchiness/swelling and bites. With this many bites on your body you would have been able to see the bed bugs if you inspected for them. You have not mentioned having them eradicated or the fact that you found any. If you had that many bites from a bed bug they would still be in your house 'and still biting you'. I would look for a second opinion, particularly as you are no longer being bitten. * I work as a bed bug specialist in Australia and deal with many guests who are bitten. My advice is to seek another opinion as I'm sure they are not bed bug bites.

I have been told that hickies/love bites can cause skin cancer. Is this true?

I went away just over 2 weeks a go and stayed in a hostel. I woke up as something was on me and found a bug. I went back to sleep but woke up again to more bugs and bites. By the morning I had lots of bites and then went home. over the coming days more bites appeared. They are not in my house and I read bites can appear for days after you were bitten. I have hundereds of bites from one night and now they have gone down and are no longer itchy but I have horrible dark marks all over my arms. I know these bits can scar and although I have not scrattched at all, I am ver worried they will scar as they are looking that way already. Any help with the scars please

I had two tick bites on my scrotum a year ago, leaving 2 little white bumps where the bites occurred. There was no pain. I just got bitten in three other places on my legs and one arm a week or so ago. And now, a few days later, I have a painful burning sensation where the two previous tick bites occurred on my scrotum. Can tick bites produce such painful cyst-like bumps a year later? Could the more recent bites have activated the pain in the old bites?

I have bites on my back and arms. I don't think they are insect bites but they have been on my body for a few months now. I am not sure what they are.

I've had bed bugs in an apartment I stayed in London. Strangest thing was they bit me and not my housemate. Or perhaps her bites weren't showing up on her skin. Was horrible as my bites were red and itchy and became quite inflamed. We had to contact the council to fumigate the flat.

I have experienced numerous bites marks on my legs and arms this past year but since I live in the country side I assumed it was some other insect like a spider but after seeing tonights show it could very well be bed bugs, I am unsure. My bites marks appear very red , itchy and at times slightly swollen. There has, on occasion, been two very small red dots in the centre of the bite mark which made me think of a spider but now I am completely unsure. Whether it be a spider or bed bugs what is the best recommendation to stop the bites and treat them when they appear?

Hi I have problems with bites that I have got from the dog that has been diagnosed with canine scabies. The dog has been treated twice, but I am still getting bitten despite not touching the dog (I do go in the room where she is though). The vet said to just treat the dog with amitraz dip will suffice once a week, but I am still getting just as many bites. Do you know what else I can do to get rid of the little mange mites. It is a living hell as they are sooo itchy.

I was getting bitten a lot before christmas then it stopped. Iv recently started to be bitten again. When I get bitten they sometimes blister/bubble and become extremely painful. Especially when they burst, scab over and scar me. They only really bite the bottom of my legs. Someone told me I may be allergic to whatever is biting me. Is it mosquito bites or bed bug bites? Is blistering normal? HELP!!

Hi Candice, To ensure you do not have bed bugs you need to do a visual inspection. Contrary to a lot of comments they will not necessarily be found in your mattress. You need to look under the base of the bed/under bedside furniture/along the skirting board towards the head of your bed/curtain pleats. If you wake in the morning to find spots of blood in your bed ( they may appear very dark in colour, almost like black pen dots ) this is also a sign. You are looking for an insect that resembles an apple pip. Good Luck. p.s I have been specialising in bed bug Inspections and eradication for the past 5 years in Australia.

We got bitten by bugs in a hotel last year, my 4 year old had a severe reaction to the bites it took months for it to settle. The pattern of bites is the give away as they tend to bite in a row or tracks. Often 3 in a row. It was a complete and utter nightmare. We carried then home and had to have the house fumigated as well. Everthing was sprayed and washed at 60 degrees. Absolutely horrendous experience. We did manage to stop the spread.

For the last 2 ears every time I return from a summer holiday I get a rash on my stomach. The rash spreads all over my stomach and chest and includes what looks like bites and is really itchy! It seems to be at its worse when I get out the shower and spreads. It usually lasts about 2 weeks but im concerned as it always happens. The doctor put it down to delayed reaction from bites abroad but I don't think that's the case. Man im itchy!

My boyfriend's room is infested with bedbugs. He only realised when I first stayed there as I got around 75 bites all over my body after just one night! These turned into extremely ichy hives, which didn't go down for about 2 weeks- they nearly drove me insane with the itching. He doesn't react at all to the bites he gets and the bed bugs only seem to bite his feet whereas they bite me all over. Although he has had the room fumigated twice, the bed bugs are still there. It is extremely frustrating and the most itchy thing I have ever experienced!

We discovered them in our home in April. I didn't react at all to the bites, and my husband was only slightly troubled. The bad part of that is we didn't realise we had a problem until there was a good-going infestation. It's hard to describe how we went from dawning awareness ("it can't be that surely?") to the full horror of realising it was indeed bed bugs ("OMG - what on earth will be do!!"). It had simply never occurred to me that they were a real threat in the present day. I suspect I picked them up in my luggage when on business travel, staying in good hotels, in the UK. We burned the affected bed. We've had a professional company spray the room three times, they need to do this do make sure they knock out any new hatchlings as its really hard to kill the eggs. We're sleeping on a mattress on the floor and still living with mountains of sealed plastic bags full of "stuff" which we don't know how to decontaminate (books, cameras, handbags etc).It has been absolutely awful. Advice for what its worth. You must keep sleeping in the room or they'll follow you else where. Get a reputable professional in to deal with it, or your own attempt to sort the problem could spread it worse. Wash everything you can at at least 60 degrees (more if it will take it). You can tumble dry delicate fabrics when they are already dry without damage (I've done this to silk and cashmere). This kills bugs so long as you do it on the hot setting for at least half an hour. Dig in, cos it will take a few weeks, and really look after yourself through the process as it is a very stressful life event. I suspect the impact is similar to being burgled in terms of the sense of invasion, upheaval, costs, anxiety and distress. You are not alone in this, but people don't talk about it. I haven't told even my dearest childhood friends. Good luck.

I just came back from a nice four star hotel in Barcelona and have been bitten alive, I checked on trip adviser when I came back to the uk and some people stayed at the same hotel a week before had the same issue, new bites are appearing all the time and I understand it can take up to 9days to stop showing new bites, is this right? I've wased all my clothes here times on 40* and whites on 95* and tumble dried most things, will this work? Help it's driving me bonkers and costing a fortune. I told the hotel nod they said sorry but I wonder if I should ask for my money back can I do that?

I have had scabies for over 3 months now, its really killing me. I went on a camp, and after i came back, i had a few mosquito bites, a few days later i went to a sauna, red dots appeared, they itched, though i was able to sleep at nights. I firstly thought it was mosquito bites, doctors said they were an allergic reaction to a particular insect or bug. I went to an asian doctor, they said the same. I have seen over 5 doctors, then i went to my family doctor and he said it might be scabies, i am currently taking ascabiol lotion, it is not working :( It is getting worse, and when scratched, water comes out and dries out hard. It is so itchy, i just want to get rid of it, please help me!
