For 3 years now been treated at hospital for constant infections, (just get treated, 2-3 days later infection returns) have tried varying strengths of antibiotics, had scans and also been treated for interstitial cystitis but that gave me more infections. Been for both flexible and rigid cystoscopy and no signs of tumors or leisions in bladder. One kidney has scar tissue due to constant uti's since i was around 12 ( am 33 now) been told problem is bladder not emptying properly so next step is to try self-catheterisation but first have to get mri scan done to check for any other damage? Now been waiting almost 6 months on appointment and still having constant infections! Also always seem to have colds and catch every bug thats going! Wasn't like this before, is there anyone else with same/similar problems?

I have suffered from constant bladder, kidney and urinary track infections for over two years now. I bleed after sex and find it sometimes to be unbearably painful, I have taken nearly every antibiotic going for the infections... my swab tests for sexually transmitted infections always comes back clear and I never have periods due to the pill I take (cerazete) Yet still get horrible stomach cramps/ lower back pain all the time. I'm constantly bloated and have been told to take tablets for IBS which i've never suffered from before... I've been pestering and nagging my doctors for some more investigation because I feel so run down all the time and sore, are the water infections possibly to do with endo? I'm so fed up, currently waiting to see the gyno. So fed up :(

Hi i was the same as you, back and forth to the doctor. In the end my bladder stopped working i had i cafiter fitted and in hospital for a week with infection. In pain all the time but nothing was done untill last week. After another water infection and sick every day for 10 days with no food, they took me back to hospital, to give me fluids and antibiotics. My periods were none stop from may this year. Huge clots and in bad pain, back and forth to the gyne departent and urine clinic while they blamed each other. I saw an oncall doctor by chance. He looked at my notes sent me for a scan and biopsy's. Got me back in and said its endo, within 2 weeks was in having op to have it removed. And treatment to my bladder which now works. And he clipped my ovaries off so in feb i can have my womb and cervix taken away. When i came back to the ward he said it was everywhere. I was in alot of pain at first but its settled now a little. But most of all they found what was wrong. Go back to the gp and demand a reff to the hospital, its ur right to have that. Tell them how you feel and how much effects your life. Ibs they tried that with me. remember u know ur own body. hope this helps......and sorry it's so long ha. Good luck xx

I have the same as you, after I have sex it's extremely sore, I bleed from the fleshy part between vagina and bum, and it really hurts so I would love to know if you find anything out about it, it's so painful for me too, and I have all the same symptoms as you, I know this isn't helping but I thought that if you new your weren't the only one it might make you feel a little bit better :)

I'm used to having these, I've had about 5 just in this year! I'm on the pill microgynon and I am sexually active but I get this pwerful itching and burning and it hurts when I pee. Doctors used to say it was bladder infections but lately they've been a lot worse. Is this a urine infection or something what could be worse? Should I be worried?

I have a Neuropathic Bladder and have been getting bladder infections at least once every couple of months since the age of 1. I have found that cranberry juice really does help. If you don't like the taste, you can always buy cranberry extract tablets. They work just as well. The most common form of antibiotics is Amoxicillin, but if it hasn't been working, try Nitrofurantoin or Trimethoprim. Also, if you get them more frequently after sex, go to the toilet before and after sex, as the vibration promotes the bacteria to grow. If you have a bladder problem that promotes bladder infections, you can try a botox injection into the bladder, but that may only work for a couple of years. I hope I've helped. x

"i have started suffering from bladder infections and i get them on a regular bases, every time i go to the doctors my urine sample comes back normal is this right?" No this is not right. I have suffered all my life with bladder infections and later what felt like bladder infections but when the Doctor ran a test it came back negative. Sometimes with blood and white blood cells in the urine. Finally I met a Doctor that told me I had Interstitial Cystitis. There is a sepcial diet, physical therepy and medication. Namely Elmiron. These treatments have worked wonders for me. Talk to your Doctor about them. Good Luck!!

It sounds like your bladder might not be emptying as much as it should when you go, hence going little but often. Unless you have already done this, you could try asking your gp if you can have an ultrasound. I had one done and it might help - they asked me to drink lots to fill up my bladder as much as possible (this was while i was suffering cystitis), then they scanned the bladder to see what it looked like. They then told me to go and empty my bladder as much as possible and scanned it again. At the very least, they were able to tell me that my bladder wasnt emptying completely, which led to infections.

hi I've had endo. for about 5 years now on the bladder...have been told it is very mild in the form on powder like spots...have also been suffering from continuous bladder infections and my gynae. might need to look inside the bladder. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hello, I am in my late thirties, I suffered from the same bladder problems as Melanie. My problems started at 21yrs. I self - catheterized for 5 times a day over a 9yr period. The catheters were not so bad going in ( sting ) but coming out would get stuck and I would have to tug. Back pain and infections very frequent. I have had the neurostimulator fitted for the last five and a half years, my bladder function is near normal, no more infections, no more back pain, no more catheters.

Dear Zoe Didn't even know there was a stimulator which gives me great hope. I have been practising ISC since 1999 and have repeated UTI's and live on antibiotics. Where did you have the stimulator fitted and how invasive is the operation. So pleased to hear positive feedback.

Hi Nicole, my name is Julie and im 41. i also have an atonic bladder with a spc and an ileostomy for atonic colon. Ive had no end of problems myself from constant UTIs/site infections to a huge parastomal hernia. I am on my 3rd medical opinion re my bladder and im waiting for a date so i can have combined bladder and bowel surgery to repair the hernia, resite my ileostomy and create a mitrofanoff continent bladder diversion. It definitely is such a life changing, difficult condition to try to live with. Do you have any idea how your atonic bladder started? Lots of love, here if you need anything x

I'm 16 and have been getting kidney infections every month for the past 8 months. I previously never had one or either did anyone in my family. My ulrasound was clear and so was a full blood count. They are getting increasivly painful, with really bad abdomenal and lower back pain. Because of all the infections the lining of my bladder is damaged and i m on antibiotics for 3 months and get abdomenal pain throughout the day. I have my periods for 5 years but there still not regular and are very heavy and painful, with lots of clotting and i also get mostly diarria. Could this be all connected as i have got some periods at the same time as my infections. Also 2 months before any kidney infections i got a really bad period. For the fist day i was vomiting, had diarrai, shaking uncontrollablely and very dizzy. My next period was a bit better, but after it for 3 weeks i woke up one night every week in a cold sweat and shaking unconrollablely. What does all this mean ? Could i have poly cistic ovaries as a cist burst on my ovary last month or emdemeterocis as my granny and antie had this. Is my periods connected to my kidney infections, i would be so grateful if you could answer my questions as i have a scope next month for my bladder and i really don't want to get that done. Please help !

Hi ever since i have been 3 i have got bladder infections atlease a couple times a year. i stopped getting them from the age of 11 and then when i started having sex they started up again . When i split up with my partner the infections stopped again. When i got a new partner i started getting the infections again and i get an infection everytime i have sex. I have also always got pain deep inside during sex as if its pushing against something. i would really apreciate it if someone could help as i can not take much more of it.

I am having treatment at the moment for chronic IC, I had bowel instills but that made me worse, i produced mast cells and histamine, I take antihistamines daily as mu bladder thinks its under attack. A cystoscopy is needed and a biopsy to understand what treatment is needed and its very hit and miss. There are things they can do, im an extreme case and am awaiting new tablets and a different instill. Ask your gp about instills, its a catheter in your bladder for 4 weeks, once a week to coat the bladder wall so infections cant take hold and its really did help irritability of the bladder

I wouldn't panic too much. Explain how you are feeling to the Urologist and they will tell you if baby is at risk. It is a feeling of the unknown which tends to worry us all but don't worry you be in good hands and shame on your midwife and doctors for not re-assuring you. Good Luck

Thank you sam i have a consultation on friday baby is fine i had 2 scans just hope that they sort it out asap take care xx

I get lots of bladder infections, often my pee smells sort of bleachy, it's cloudy most of the time. Lately I've had some bladder control problems, and my consultant says it's probably neurological. It's so embarassing as I'm only 22, and I'm always the youngest person in the urology waiting room!

i had a bladder op (tvt) to relieve stress incontinence about one year ago, since then i have not been able to have an orgasm, after the op the consultant said he had probably over tightened it this time, this was my third tvt.the op has worked so far as it has cured the incontinence. i mentioned this problem of not reaching orgasm twice to my consultant and on both occasions he said it was nothing that he had done and laughed. he suggested i was prescribed esterol. I'm 45 and don't believe I'm going through the change.the only other thing is when i empty my bladder it will not completely empty ,about 200mls is left in my bladder this has only been the case since my last tvt. i now have regular urine infections and my urine is very smelly. i wish i had never had the bladder op in the first place.

Hello, I had a similar problem, kept going to the doctors with what everyone thought was bladder infections, as I had blood in my urine the doctors put me on antibiotics and sent a sample off just to confirm the infection but they kept coming back clear of infections. So eventually I was sent to a urologist and had a Cystoscopy and by process of elimination was diagnosed with Interstital cystitis. Interstital cystitis is such a grey area I had to go through many different treatments to find the one that worked best for me. One thing that the urologist told me to do in the beginning was to cut out anything slightly acidic in my diet. This includes most fruits, (besides blueberries) citric acid, tomatoes, etc. If you put “interstitial cystitis what not to eat” in Google you should be able to find a list. I hope this helps.
