Allison, I had no signs of a cyst on my left side, till one night I ended up double over in pain.. Went in and they had to remove the ovary, via key hole surgery via belly button, scaring in absolute minim and down time was also good... I was shown pictures of what had been taken out as I was worried about loosing a ovary.. When I saw the pictures of what it and my ovary looked like, and advise all tests showed all clear to any cancerous formation, I was felt ok with it.... I would be going back to your doctor for more advice on this, only you know your body and when it does not feel right.. Go and advise GP all the signs you are feeling and let a expert in his field advise... Take care

I was diagnosed with fibroids back in 2005 and PCOS. Periods were regular and pain was inconsistent so after 6months decided not to do anything. I deal with the facial hair. I found alternative treatment taking systemic enzymes which shrunk the fibroid but was expensive. Kept doing this every couple of years as GP just wanted to prescribe painkillers. In 2011, young female GP told me to wait for menopause as in mid 40s! This year started really bad abdo pain, thought fibroid again. Was in tears with pain and very bloated (thought was wheat intolerance). Got very assertive with GP and asked for up to date scans and gynae referral. GP has been great, saw a fab gynae consult within 4 weeks, scans 2 weeks later and have a 4.7cm fibroid, 7cm ovarian cyst on right and 1.2cm cyst on left ovary (no pain yet there). Waiting for op to have cysts removed and mirena coil to deal with fibroid. Been in lots of pain for 10 days now but period only lasted 5 days. I moved 3yrs ago and new GPs (apart from young female) have been great. Keep pushing and see different GP if need be - there are some really good ones out there but you have to make a pain of yourself to get referred. Also, google - I have found really helpful support forums. NHS website was actually good. Gives good and bad experiences but from real women who have had treatment. All the best for you - keep on at them - minimum you need is referral for transvaginal ultrasound to see if fibroid or ovarian/fallopian cyst. Once you know what dealing with, GPs can refer you to specialist.

Hi, I'm 18 and my boyfriend and I have been having sex for the past 10 months. After we have sex I get horrible pain in my lower abdomen. It is actually worse than period pain and only occurs after sex. It only goes if he or I rubs the area or i put a hot water bottle on it. I have to stay in bed for the day or night because it is so bad and I get really bloated. It's really affecting our sex life as I don't look forward to sex because of this. Can someone help me out?

Have you considered the possibility, however strange that it may seem, that you could be allergic to his semen,and/or the sperm that comes with it? Maybe it's an allergy related to natural latex rubber compounds, depending the kind of birth control you use. The same could be said of any kind of any kind of internal spermicidal creams or jellies, etc. that you are using. Could also be the natural latex found in certain types of diaphragms, should that be your chosen method of birth control. Do check into the possible allergy to his bodily fluids though. Could also be some type of sexually transmitted disease that you have, (and BOTH of you at that. . .) but are presently unaware of. Probably need to have a thorough exam, and discussion about all these things with your OB doctor. I would urge you to see your OB doctor, or at least your primary physician as soon as possible. Do not put this off, and wait much longer.

I am 39 & for several years have suffered with a bloated tummy, loose bowel movements & discomfort, sometimes pain to the right of my upper abdomen. I went to see my GP who said it was nothing & that I had a "fatty lump". I was unhappy with this & felt my GP did not take me seriously. I wonder if I am intolerant to certain foods as 3 yrs ago I became allergic to nuts & sesame seeds. Today my bowel movement was very strange. It was pale, slimy and looked like the inner lining of my intestine. I am worried. Everything I read in the net points to bowel cancer. There is no blood or darkness to my stools & no pain. Also GP's tend to blame everything on being overweight, so don't take my concerns particularly seriously. Please help. Thank you.

right i would advice you to go back to your gp surgery and this time see another doctor than last time! some doctors seem to think being "overweight" is the only answer they can give us! but no do not take this and see another doctor. i hope you do get more input and hopefully some tests done this time around...please keep in touch and let me know how you get off :)

Just recently back in November 2013 I was admitted to hospital for severe abdomen and back pain. The docs there said I had PID. After being discharged my bowel movements changed a lot and they became very soft but full of mucus sometimes a little blood can be seen. Every time I eat my stomach hurts and I feel bloated. The same happens when I pass stools. My GP got me referred and so far I have had a colonoscopy (the doc confirmed then I had an anal fissure), a CT scan and a gastroscopy (this was done to check for Coelics Disease). I've not heard back anything and I am still feeling the same symptoms. I'm confused as I don't know what the problem is with me. I would appreciate some feedback and anyone else who has experienced the same as myself. I'm due to see my consultant on the 6th Feb.

Hi I just wanted to see what everyone would think of what I'm going through. So I've been feeling really bloated and my stomach is hard and I have really bad abdominal pain it makes me want to cry. I generally don't feel too well to like I'm not myself. When I do eat I get full really fast and that's not normal for me. I feel pregnant to but I'm not to sure as I've had tests at home that all came up negative I just had a blood test done yesterday to see if I am so won't find that out till Monday. But lastnight I had to wake up to go to the toilet it was about 3am and I had diarrhea and it was pale and smelt odd to normal and that this morning I felt I needed to have diarrhea again but when I was on the toilet for about 20 minutes I couldn't do anything and when I tried my lower abdomen really really hurt I had tears. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks in advance.

The pain varies from a dull ache in my rigt side and around to my back, lots of gurgling noises, anyone have the same symptoms?

Hi,Have you tried not eating foods with bulking agents in. I also drink a glass of cranberry juice every day it seems to help with my gut its good for infections which can be caused by IBS and IBS bladder syndrome. I also eat the same every week and eat it in small portions through the day it seems to stop me bloating up and my body gets used to what i eat. I also dont eat dairy or drimk anything with caffine in.

make sure that you and anyone you've been with recently gets tested for everything. STIs arent usually that big a deal - antibiotics or freezing if you have warts. but you need to be more careful in future. go to the STI clinic or doctors and stop having sex until you're both clear of everything.

I am 23 and for the past 3 months i have been having really soft stools. I go around 4-8 times a day and i am always bloated. I always feel sick and have pains in my abdomen. My weight is also up and down without dieting. Do you think this could be Crohen's Disease?

Hi, im a 16 year old girl and have recently been to the doctors and diagnosed with ibs. i have a weak bladder, so i need the toilet alot, so sometimes i do get bloated from that. i usually also get bloated around a week before my periods. but then i discovered i began to get bloated more or less all the time. id wake up in a morning and be fine, then suddenly as soon as i ate anything, i felt like a beached whale! which also made me not want to eat anything else. so i was concerned and went to the doctor. i am currently on tablets and im just hoping they are going to work, ive only been on them a week. ive been told to take them for a month, then go back to my GP. i just wondered if you could tell me what sort of foods i should perhaps eat? and what foods to stay away from? if water will help? and any other advice you can give me that will help me. being bloated all the time makes me feel really uncomfatable and i feel fat. i notice more that i am bloated as i am very slim and have a flat stomach. so its making me upset. please if you could help, it would be great. and i would really appreciate it! Thanks!! x

Hi I'm a 40 year old woman experiencing quite severe pain in my lower abdomen on the right, kind of near my hip. It's deep inside and clearly not my hip. I feel I am frequently urinating and my appetite is not very good. I seem to feel full even though I only eat half of what is in my plate and sometimes less. I also sometimes feel a bit bloated. I'm more concerned that the pain is connected.

hi I have Ibs, and the lump in your bikini line area sounds like mine if your slim, and its in your abdomen my doctor said its poo, im constipated most of the time with my ibs, but Im stressed all the time being out of work, so mine is really bad at the mo, do you have a hard tummy or bloated are you suffering with diorarehha or constipation?? you need also to check your stool colour, I also have gallbladder stones which can add to the problem...make sure you eat plenty of fibre in your diet, and take some lactolose or get some ibs stuff from your dr..

I suffer with a bloated stomuch, I feel i have had this all my life im always watching what I eat and try and eat as little as I can and as slow as I can to stop bloating also I make sure I don’t eat past 6 so the food is not sitting on my stomach when I go to sleep. What ever I do I always constantly feel bloated even when I haven’t eaten, even when it does come to me eating I just feel sick were I feel full and bloated but I haven’t eat. I don’t eat bread or anything heavy on my stomach? But surely there has to be an answer to this?

Hi, For the last three weeks I have been getting a tickling sensation in my abdomen which runs down to my vagina and with a constant urge to urinate. I have been to my GP in which they gave me a three day course of anti-biotics which have not worked. My last urine test a week ago came back normal but still this urge to wee all the time I am constantly drinking lots of water but still as soon as i pass urine i want to go more and more. I am getting bloated too and cannot walk too far as i need to be near a toilet. I also had a vaginal swab which came back positive for thrush. Can anyone suggest what the next step is I should do and does this sound like cystitus. I appreciate any advise you have and thank you.

Its difficult to tell. What you describe with the urine test being negative after taking antibiotics, but you still having the bladder symptoms it could be IC. Antibiotics can cause thrush so you can't rule out a vaginal infection until you have had a swab taken. If this is negative then it would also point to your bladder. You could ask your GP to refer you to a specialist. There are consultants who do both urology and gynaecology(uro/gynae) which would save you having to go to two different people. As for the bloating this could also be a side effect of the antibiotics. Hope this helps.

Hi Rebecca, Thank You for taking the time in answering my question. Since I posted my last message I have had the swabs returned positive for thrush and have been to a gynaecologist and thankfully all is well in that department. However in 3 weeks time i have an appointment to visit a Urologist so hopefully will be able to get a diagnosis. Some days are worse than others in which I get an urgency to keep going to the toilet and sometimes it almost feels like i have a tampon stuck upside the vagina. Does this sound like a possible infection in the bladder even though my urine tests come back all clear? Look forward to hearing from you.

Try taking probiotic supplements- they really help to stop you getting bloated after dinner. they are about £15 pounds from holland and barratt and thanks to them i felt much better about what i ate because i didnt feel bloated. Thats the problem when you first start to become better- your stomach isnt used to eating again but the tablets really help. Hope it helps.

God, i'm so glad i came onto this site, i had no idea so many other people are suffering from this..i didn't know what was wrong with me, i just typed in "bloated intestines". I get so bloated i look pregnant. People were even giving up their seats on the train for me (so it's not all bad !)I had no idea i had IBS, as i dont get chronic pains or sickness. I've noticed recently the day after having a banana i get bloated so i've stopped eating them. Milk can also give me bad wind, so i'm going to switch to Soya. Rice or pasta also bloats me out (maybe i have a wheat&dairy intolerence huh ?) I eat Alpen in the morning (adding extra nuts & seeds to it) i have a prawn or chicken salad for lunch and fish or chicken with veg at night (no carbs), and i still get bloated. I drink a litre of water a day, i can't drink anymore than that otherwise i feel sick. So i'm stumped too. I'll take as trip to my GP and see what she says, but she is a bit rubbish, so maybe go private. I'll let you know if i find a miracle cure !

I suffer from depression and also IBS, so I find it very hard to ever feel normal. I am constantly bloated with severe stomach cramps, one day being constipated and the next having diarrohea and am always tired. I do alot of exercise and cut out carbs for the purpose of training, I found that when I did it helped, however I cant always avoid carbs but when I eat them or am slightly down I am in discomfort again. I also get heart burn, pain around my belly button and my stomach or lower abdomen feels tender to touch. Is this all normal for IBS or should I go speak to my doctor incase it is anything worse?

After seeing this poor guy on the program having trouble with his enlarged abdomen it made me feel sick that the doctors just basically told him he was fat. That isn't fat on his belly. I have been anorexic for 13 years and are seriously underweight and I suffer from the same thing as him, a very swollen abdomen. How can doctors call me obese when my BMI is 14? It makes me sick that doctors dismissed it like that! When stomach acid is low it causes a swollen abdomen, imbalances in body pH and candida also cause it and yet the doctor never check for these things! I've had to struggle for years with my swollen belly, and nobody ever wants to help, I had to find the answers on my own.
