    Earwax

A mixture of natural secretions that form a protective coating over the skin that lines the ear canal, preventing it from drying and cracking. Excessive earwax can cause painful blockages and temporary hearing loss. Read more →

Hello. Last year my left eardrum ruptured and ever since then when I am ill it gets blocked generally all of a sudden after taking a shower. Since I am ill again as I write this both my ears are blocked. I tried olive oil drops the last time and they helped a little. Is there anything else I can do? Also my right ear is blocked but not as badly as my left ear. Is it being caused by sinus as I do have a little bit of a stuffy nose?

I keep getting ear infections, I have had 3 since christmas. After having one for nearly 5 weeks last year, which resulted in a perforated ear drum because the doctor wouldn't see me, I was referred to ENT. I had my appointment this week (when my ears were fine). I was told there was some infection there and also some eczema (which I have on my hands too) and was given micro suction, which completely cleared them. I got prescribed more ear spray (otomize) which I have had previously and after 1 day, my infected ear is slightly blocked again. I am so fed up of not being able to hear properly! Should I be using the spray? Surely if my ear canal is clear then it isn't good to be spraying more inside?

I got re-occuring minor blockes most of the time, now i have an infection because i think there might be some sort of viral infection going around because my dad had the same swelling of his lymph nodes a couple weeks ago (pain on the side of the head, behind the ear and down the side of the necl with smelling). I've tried to use bells nowax ear drops but it appears it isn't wax because the creamy yellow/whitish cheesy smelly stuff keeps coming back, i have on and off minor blockages in my ears (mostly my right ear), and it happens whenever i'm warm, been outside or had a shower (mostly after a shower), and the icky stuff starts coming out straight away the next day. You need to tell the docs that if it was wax the sprays would of cleared it up, i find doctors never listen these days... you need to tell them it's been re-occuring since christmas, this could be a sign of a yeast infection or otitus externia, both of them are fungus's.

i have sinus problems which is constantly blocked i was on nasonex which helped a bit i am now pregnant and my docters say i can only use vicks and albas oil but these dont work well can anyone help me i can't get any relief and im not sleeping due to the blocked nose.

BUY AN INEXPENSIVE FACIAL STEAMER, PUT SOME MENTHOL OIL OR CRYSTALS INTO THE WATER AND USE FOR FIVE MINUTES EVERY HOUR. AT FIRST YOU MAY FIND IT HURTS YOU, BUT PERSIST. KEEP ON STEAMING. ITS THE SINUS PASSAGES BEING DRY THAT CAUSES THE PAIN. THEY MUST BE WET TO ALLOW THE MUCUS TO MOVE. IT WORKS, BUT KEEP AT IT.

hi i used to be exactly the same but i went to my GP who gave me citrazon tablets i found that taking these every day through summer and winter is the olything that helps!

I have a few concerns that I don't know if I should worry about or not. Please help me. -Painful Intercourse. Me and my boyfriend can't have sex because it hurts me so bad. It burns very bad. And it's gotten worse. I am not too dry and neither of us have any STDs. -Bleeding during Intercourse. I bled really bad a few times very randomly. One time it was just him fingering me. Two times after that was during sex. Not to rough or anything. Wasn't related to my period. -Painful Urination. When I pee it hurts. But it's not the urinating itself that hurts towards the end of my pee there's a needle sharp pain that comes from my vagina. Not every time but most of the time. -Bumps in vaginal canal. I don't know if this is normal or not. I've read that it is but also that it could be a concern. Both my boyfriend and I have felt bumps in my vaginal canal. They are decent sized bumps and are higher up in the canal. (We just discovered this recently which is why I'm worried) -Vaginal Discharge. since I was younger I've always had discharge. Don't know if it's normal or not, assuming it is. But lately it's a lot more and it has a sort of yellow tint and a strong odor. -Pain in ovaries. I have been having bad pressure pains near my ovaries. Sometimes it's sharp pain. -Frequent Urination. I have been peeing a lot! Like 5-10 times a day and that is not normal for me! I'm not sure if all these symptoms are related but all I can think of is cancer cancer cancer. And id like to get this out of my head. Should I be worried?

I would see my GP as soon as possible. You seem to have a lot going on and are very worried about it. Even just to put your mind at rest you should see someone...And don't be palmed off. Be assertive tell them all of your symptoms and ask lots of questions. No one should have to endure all of the discomfort you describe, but if you don't have it investigated you will just continue to worry. Please see your GP soon and let them put your mind at rest. Thoughts are with you.

I have blocked fallopian tubes and have been suffering with pelvic pain for the last 18 months. the pain is quiet bad and im always taking painkillers. when i went for a recent pelvic ultrasound the doctor asked me if i'd had surgery which i had not, im assuming some scar tissue showed up on the scan for her to ask this. My Question is would having both tubes blocked cause so much pain?

Had root canal done on a tooth a week ago. Root canal was unsucessful because of various factors, one being an infection between the roots of this tooth. The dentist said he couldnt fit it, and sugggested removal & implant (by a specialist), so he only temp filled the tooth. A week has now passed and i have a lump below tooth in gum. I think it might be an abcess?

My left ear has been blocked for some days, then i search and found that blowing air through your both ears while closing nose and mouth can help, I used the tech but ended up having blocked both the ear, but right ear is less, then i used warm water mixed with salt and dropped on my left ear, immediately it was blocked, after letting the water fall, my left ear became fine but not perfectly fine. It seems like my ear is 60% clear, and no wax came. Help and also I wan't to get rid of the wax naturally.

I too had a simialar problem as you. I started having bad breath in my early twenties when my wisdom teeth were impacted and had to be removed. One of the tooth beside my wisdom tooth was damaged and my doctor suggested a root canal. My bad breath was blamed on sinusitis but i never had any thick mucus discharge. For years I begged for the root canal tooth to be removed and was constantly told nothing was wrong with it. Another dentist refused to remove it too and suggested a ENT. I went to the ENT and was given medication to stop the drain but my breath still stank. Finally over 2 weeks ago a dentist final agreed to remove the root canal tooth which was found to be infected under the crown. Since the removal my bad breath has disappeared. Root canals and crowns are breeding grounds for bacteria. Get rid of them.

I've suffered with really bad ear infections for the some years. no one help until hearing aid specialist told me called "surfer ear" mean bone grower inside ear canal cause bad infections like boil. I am profoundly deaf and ear canal better with hearing aid on stopping swim at surf beach for too cold old now. I love swim at surf for many years.

ive suffered with this condition for about 17 years. i saw a specialist and was told it was from small arms fire while serving in the army.its really bad at night when its quiet.the last time i tried popping my ears i literally burst my ear drum. ive given up hope now and just try and get on with it.

Hi, i am 16 year old and i look after my teeth, brush them twice a day etc. about a year ago i experienced the worst pain i have ever experienced. it was like electric shocks to the mouth. and the pain was very random. i went to the dentist and the said an absys was beginning to form. i was given anti biotics which made the pain stop for a while but i was scare dto go back because they said root canal would be the next option and i refused to have that. i still now and then get these electric shock type pains. nowhere near as bad as before and this generally happens when i have cold drinks.. do you suggest having root canal? help!

Ashley, I had the same problem as your bf except that the excruciating pain upon ejaculation extended like an electric shock from the rt. ball all the way up the inguinal canal-- the canal which the balls comes down to hang in the scrotal sack. One urologist said tht there was no hernai and tht there is always some pain in the balls area but it would resolve on its own. Second opinion from a female urologist suggested that is was a hernia. Anyhow, for the past 2 years I am pain free. But you and your bf must be sure to have him see uroloogist and get a scrotal sack ultra sound exam to be sure. Good luck.

Hi I am suffering toothache in my upper/lower jaws, having recieved root canal treatment. My dentist insists this is because infection has affected the nerves. This infection seems to have spilt over on the neighbouring tooth. During the first root canal treatment my dentist wasn't waring a surgical mask, proding the tooth with a type of implement then "smelling" for infection. Despite insisting infection is the causation of my rapidly diminishing teeth he has only ever used neurotoxins to complete the root canal work, as the tooth was so sensitive during surgery, he has administered no antibiotics. I am trying to maintain the highest level of dental hygiene, Yet I have recently been getting really bad breath/toothache (Taking Paracetomol). I don't understand why he refuses to prescribe antibiotics. My local hospitals dental casualty wont treat me as I'm registered with a dentist, yet another dentist did recommended a course of antibiotics. Opinions on this issue very much wellcome Regards from Manchester

Hi, I have a bit of an embarrassing problem that I would be grateful for some advice on! I am 21 and I find sexual intercourse very difficult. It sounds strange but my boyfriend says that i feel different when he tries to enter me... he feels like he has to push downwards and that my vaginal canal is bent. I have visited my GP to get checked out for any STI's and i am all clear, however my GP did say that my boyfriend would feel as thought he would have to push down rather than straight in when entering me. At the time, i was too embarrassed to ask her why this is or if I can do anything to rectify it. Its causing a real problem when having sex because basic positions (such as me on) just don't work due to my vaginal canal shape! I would be so grateful for any advice you could provide. Thanks

Hi, I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 12 and then with aspirin intolerance when I was 16. When I was17 I had my first surgery to remove the polyps. I was totally blocked, for months couldn't breath through nose only by mouth . I also couldn't sleep at night because I had to blow my nose constantly, couldn't do any exercise and just felt extremely miserable. They told me I had extended polyps in all sinuses and probably didn't manage to remove all of the polyps as in a 1 year and a half after the 1st surgery I had to have another one. That one went better and I was ok for about 2 years. I had my last surgery when I was. 20 and I'm 24 now and start feeling awful again. The symptoms are back. Blocked nose, constant discharge from my nose, headaches, blocked ears. It's pretty painful when ear or ears are blocked and painful ax well not to mention that it's hard to concentrate. It's a horrible illness and I feel sorry for everyone who suffers like that. I hope I can get another surgery soon although don't know how many operations one can have in life. Hope we get better on day and there will be a cure.

My bad breath experience started in my early twenties - because I cannot recall anyone reacting to my breath before that. I noticed it when I started to have a nasty taste in my mouth and my dentist informed me that I my wisdom teeth were impacted and had to be removed. They were removed but one of my teeth was damaged by one of the impacting tooth so it was filled at first and later he suggested that the only way to save the tooth was to do a root canal because my chewing would be compromised if I removed it. I went through the long painful process but I did not immediately put on a crown but when the tooth started to get brittle my dentist told me I had to put on a crown. The tooth always had a smell to it but I was assured by him that the crown would eliminate the problem because particle were getting into the area because there was not a crown. I asked for it to be removed but he said I had spent a lot of money already I should just complete the process. At this stage I saw that people started to react to my breath therefore I thought the crown would eliminate the problem. For over 15 years I battled mouth odor with it being blamed on sinus drain even though I did not have thick mucus discharge. I even had my tonsils removed because of tonsil stones developing only on the side with the root canal. The sinus drain was always on the side where the root canal was done. When this was pointed out to my dentist he said my root canal is in the lower jaw which would not affect my sinuses and furthermore xrays of my root canal showed no problem. He suggested that I went to see an ENT. An xray of my sinuses was already done showing no forms of blockage therefore the ENT gave me medication to stop the drain. The drain stopped but the odor persisted therefore I went to another dentist who refused to remove the root canal, instead he gave me antibiotics which I never took. In tears I called another dentist who was willing to remove the root canal. He then explain to me that root canals do not work in a small percentage of patients because of the shape of the tooth, additional canals that cannot be seen on an xray and nerves that cannot be removed because of how they are situated. When the crown was removed a terrible odor could be smelt and even during removal of the tooth itself there was an odor. I have had a slight sinus drain since then with no bad breath. My nostril on that side of my face is no longer swollen and my eye on that side of my face no longer feels pressure. I was speaking to someone up close yesterday and I was in panic mode for the entire time concerning my breath and the person just kept on talking with no reaction to my breath. This has been happening the entire week since my gum has healed over where the root canal was removed. I am writing all this with the hope that someone else can be helped by my experienced and be aware that medical professionals do not like to deal with bad breath issues so you have to stand up to them to get the problem fixed. Good Luck to all my fellow sufferers. I know what you are going through.

Hi Sue. To be honest with you as far as I know your only suppose to use a Sudafed nasal spray for 5-7 days. That's what my gp told me. Like you i'm all blocked up to. I know exactly how you feel when you don't have a sense of smell or taste. At this stage you when this is happening, you really need to see your doctor and explain this. I experience the problem and the cause is the sinuses. If you're ears are blocked you either have an inner ear infection or a sinus infection. I myself suffer from these. You ask if you should see an ent consultant. I would say "yes". You'll have to ask you gp to refer you. Hope this helps.
