I underwent a loop biopsy on Monday this week. I was advised to expect a blood stained discharge for up to 4 weeks afterwards. However there has been no blood at all. Instead I seem to be 'leaking' urine. I am having to change underwear several times a day as they are wet through. This is not a discharge, it is definitely urine. Is this a normal side effect of a loop biopsy?

Hi im 31 years old and had 2 children and came of Depo in October last year because of bloating(the depo was not the cause as I had this symptom before & decided to clearmyself from any medications) I have not had a period since,I seen my g.p withregard to the bloating where she found blood in my urine so sent me for an ultrasond which showd to be a cyst in my kidney, I was assured there was nothing to worry about, I saw my g.p again a month later where she still found blood in my urine so sent my for a cystascope,--everything was fine with that, and blood tests were fine which I believe was a full blood count and thiroid function, now to months from that I still have no period since October last year but now aware of a pain in my left groin which is intermittant during the day what I can only describe as a wave of pressure, Is this related to my problem? Should I be concerned that I have had no period yet and the new symptom of groin pain?

i was depo and took me 16 months to have a period ,i then became pregnant and now im back on it ,i have blood in my urine i also was sent for a kidney scan which came back negative and also blood test, yet still have blood in my urine

Hi I am having similar problems. I am currently waiting for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for irregular and painful periods but i ended up in a&e on Friday last week with severe pain in my right side (near groin)high temp and generally feeling really unwelll. They did a urine sample and there was blood in my urine so i was sent on my way with pain killers and antibiotics for a urine infection but I knew this wasnt the problem. I went for my pre-op on Tuesday at the hospital and i was still feeling really unwell, the nurse told me my heart rate was erratic, my temp was high and my blood pressure was very high and that the pain is not normal and told me to go back to urgent care. i was admitted had full blood count which was fine and a ultrasound scan that showed lots of little cyst on both my ovaries but they told me this was normal?? I have looked on the internet for answers but is it normal to have lots of little cyst on both ovaries?? They sent me home like i was wasting time after being in over night and said they will try and hurry my surgery and referred me to a urologist for the blood in urine. I am home in bed still feeling unwell and have lost 9lb in a week and a half as i feel so unwell i am unable to eat and the nurse has said im underweight which i wasnt before i felt so ill. anyone else experienced the same symptoms??

Hi Emma, Thank god I am not alone. I have had exactly the same. I woke in December last year to a severe stabbing pain in my left lower abdo. I collapsed on the bathroom floor after feeling very light headed. My bf helped me back to bed and nearly rang an ambulance. I didn't want the embarrassment. I went to my gp and I too had blood in my urine and was given anti biotics for a week to treat a kidney infection. After finish those the pain came back. Another set if antibiotics was prescribed for 2 weeks at a stronger dose. Still in pain during and after this course I went back to the gp. My gp realised it was something more than a kidney infection. I was referred for an ultra sound and to see a gynaecologist. The gynaecologist looked at my ultra sound and turns out I have polycystic ovary syndrome however, she said my symptoms do not match up to this. She said pcos does not usually cause pain and for that reason alot of women don't realise they have it and only tend to find out they have pcos when they struggle to conceive. She has put me in for a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis and to do a womb biopsy. They will also try to remove the cyst from my ovaries (apparently I have 20+ on/in each ovary). If they don't find endometriosis they will look at my other organs. I feel for you as I've had the same problems, pain and feeling unwell. Fingers crossed this key hole procedure will find something. I would demand a referral from your gp, and demand the gynaecologist do something. Best of luck Louise xx

Also they may not know the difference between polycystic ovary syndrome and ovarian cysts. "Poly" means many cysts. More than 10. It is only a syndrome when you have symptoms that occur I.e. irregular periods. Syndrome mean symptoms. Ovarian cysts are normal for most women. An egg is produced in a fluid filled sac and it ruptures to release the egg. If it doesn't rupture it turns into a cyst but they disappear soon after that cycle. Pcos cysts don't and are hard and attach to ovaries.

im 23 years old and have suffered with UTI since I was 19. i had a 6 month period where i had no infections. reasons for this is unknown. i get infections every 3-4 weeks where the infection will come on within a couple of hours. from just frequent painfull urine to blood in the urine. all urine analysis have come back with no bacterial growth. i am free from all STI's as have had these checks done twice. i have had viginal swabs done at my GP's for yeast infections and any abnormalities. i am currently taking an antibiotic called nitrofurantoin 100mg for 7days. this is the only one that works. i drink about 3 litres a day and have cut most sugar out of my diet and take a probiotic and cranberry sachet each day from boots. please help.

Hey Emma, I'm not a health professional but I have had similar symptoms. I have had a year long battle with uti's and it seems I'm prone to them also. I don't get blood, that could be tiny burst blood vessels and I heard that shouldn't be a worry but I used to get pain urinating also. What helps me is chamomile tea drink it the morning and night make it strong also parsley tea helps. I took nitrofurantoin as well and I feel I just need to be super cleanly and wash with gentle soaps and femine products and use cotton undies. I feel your pain I hope all gets better for you. Take care :)

I am 42 years old and have had a period continuous for the last three months it is extremly heavy to the point that a tampax is of no use. At times it does slow down but then it is almost black blood that is coming. In the last two weeks I have without being aware released urine this has had blood also mixed in. Is this the menopause starting?

Dear Mo. Unfortunately these symptoms do not sound like the typical symptoms of menopause which would be hot flushes, night sweats, low mood, muscle pain, weight gain etc. If you are feeling very thirsty and have wet yourself in the night this could be a symptom of diabetes although that does not explain the blood. Although I cannot tell you why this is happening I can tell you that dark blood is just dead red blood cells, so that's nothing to be alarmed about. However I do advise you get yourself to a GP, ASAP and discuss your symptoms, just to find out what you have ( if you have anything at all) as these really are not the tell-tale signs of menopause. All the best x

Today I had sex with my partner after about a 3 or 4 weeks of not having sex and it hurt a little because there wasn't enough lubrication. Afterwards I went to the toilet which was fine but when I wiped I noticed blood. There was no blood in my urine or my underwear, only when I wiped. Is this just due to friction? I'm in no pain. Now

Hello, I hope you can help, I am 28 and have 2 kids and I have suffered from urine infections, vaginal itching, pain passing urine on and off now for the past 10 months and am so fed up with it. I have been to doctor and have had at least 6 antibiotics, thrush creams, kidney scan, urine tests and blood tests done. So far they told me my white blood cells are slightly high and to repeat the bloods in 3 weeks and other tests were ok. I have previously had to repeat a blood sugar test over a year ago but it was also fine second time round. Any information or suggestions you can give me would be greatly appreciated as the itching and urine pain in particular leave me unable to do things I enjoy.

Go back to your doctor, asap.

I am 21 years old, and since i was born i have been suffering with what i believed to be cystitis. When seeing doctors and specialist they all say i have the symptoms of Cystitis, the soreness, smelly urine, pain when going to the loo. But when doing test to my urine and looking at scans of my kidneys, doctors cannot find why i am getting these symptoms. I do not have any white blood cells in my urine or blood, i am also constipated 100% of the time but i am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Please can i get some help and advice, as i do not know what is wrong with me!

I have had a urine infection for over 7yrs now. I have had it investigated by camera in the bladder on 3 occasions and have been prescribed different anti biotics. There is always blood and protein in my urine and sometimes e-coli and i have even had something to do with white cells or something. I have had a kidney shut down just over 2yrs ago but is working again but i still get lots of pain in it. I had a hernia operation last week and they tested my urine and again it has blood, protein and other infection in it. I take tamsolusin and celecoxib i think thats how they are spelled daily, but still the infection is there. Please can you help me.

my daughte is almost 5 and for 2 1/2 years has been very , very sore down below and a very strong odour, its awful for her being so young. the doctor foung red blood cells and protein in her urine then found a large amount of white blood cells and protein which would say to me she has a problem inside ? but the consultant dismissed the urine and any internal problem and said it could be lichen schlerosis which has confussed me so much but im still very concerned about the findings in her urine ? any advice would be appreciated.

I too had the same situation and I have bacteria and blood in my urine... but when urine is sent to lab the bacteria never grows. For an ic patient it is normal for blood to be presemt. I have IC and it sucks. The only reason it is embarrassing is because of peoples misconceptions.

Please help! Last year I was in a lot of pain and felt very bloated, went to see GP found out I had blood in my urine. After a number of tests they discovered growths (tumours) in my bladder. Went into day surgery where they performed a biopsy, after which I had an infection and was in severe pain and the doctor had to put me on antibiotics. Anyway, it wasn't cancer but inflammation, no one has ever told me why I have inflammation or what has caused it, and as far as I am aware I still have blood in my urine. I was experiencing bladder weakness, all of a sudden I would urgently need a wee and when I moved I would like wee, not all of the urine would come out, but a suffient amount would. I get up in the night to go to the toilet at least once a night sometimes more. Urology put me on some tablets to control this, said that they would take about a month to get into my system and they now have discharged me and I don't know whether I have to take these tablets for the rest of my life, whether the blood is still in my urine and what has caused any of this, I'm only 36. I feel that the NHS has left me out in the cold and my experience hasn't been a good one. Any advice would be appreciated.

Blood in the urine is a common problem. The medical term for red blood cells in the urine is hematuria. Sometimes blood in the urine is a sign of a serious problem in the urinary tract, while other times it is not serious and requires no treatment. Only after a thorough evaluation by a healthcare provider should blood in the urine be attributed to a non-serious cause. Hematuria has many different causes. Blood in the urine can come from any condition that results in infection, inflammation, or injury to the urinary system. Typically, microscopic hematuria indicates damage to the upper urinary tract (kidneys), while visible blood indicates damage to the lower tract (ureters, bladder, or urethra). But this is not always the case. The most common causes in people younger than 40 years of age are kidney stones or urinary tract infections. These may also cause hematuria in older people, but cancers of the kidney, bladder, and prostate become a more common concern in people older than 40 years of age. Several conditions causing hematuria may exist at the same time. Some causes of hematuria are serious, others are not. Your healthcare provider will perform tests to help tell the difference. If you have visible blood in your urine, do not attempt to treat yourself with home remedies. See a medical professional without delay. If you have a urinary tract infection, you will take antibiotics for 3-14 days, depending on what part of the urinary tract is infected. If you have kidney stones, be sure to drink plenty of liquids to help pass the stones and prevent other stones from forming. You may need to take pain relievers. Hope this helps you.

I am 19 and i suffer from cystitus very often. It started with being just a mild pain whilst going to the toilet, usually after sex but this got treated relatively quickly with antiboitics. More recently i have found there to be blood and blood clots in the urine, and the pain is absolutely excruciating.. After urine samples with the doctors, they diagnosed this as cystitus again, however i'm worried that its something a lot worse..

So its not just me!! I get them that often I have got used to it, I'm on medication (strong) for other probs so I leave it till it smells bad as I'm sue my doc thinks I'm a hypocondreac, I'm now immune to most of the antibiotics, I have an operation in two wks so I shall nip to the docs thiswk for some antibiotic, n my op is for a prolapse bladder, I can tell you, if I went to see them on here they wud be gob smacked on the amount of tabs I'm on, and none of my tabs are related to the bladder infection, I'm at my wits end with wats going on with me ATM, getting sent from pillar to post NHS has a lot to answer to, if they just listen to you it wouldn't happen, so they will send u for that test I think, had it done mt self and nothing to worry about

You should see a doctor. Probably the only test he will run will be a U.A. (urine analysis). That will show if you have any infection or blood in your urine. If you do, they should be fairly easy to treat.

Go to your GP and get him/her to test your urine for blood , I went to my GP with stomach ache and he tested my urine and then sent me to hospital to have some ex-rays done and they showed my 3x kiney stones.
