I have PCOS and currently have large cysts on my ovary. (Will soon be surgically removed)I have awful periods, always really heavy and irregular. I was given tablets called 'Norethisterone'which helped to reduce the blood loss and eventually stopped the bleeding altogether. I still have pain to which i also have mefanamic acid tablets. Northisterone is not a contraceptive but if you did want a form of contraceptive too the mariner coil is really good, i will have mine within the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed you get it sorted.

Hello, I saw the programme that said that an average blood loss in a period is 30ml. I use a mooncup and have kept an eye on how much I loose as I know that my periods have always been very heavy. I loose between 140 - 180ml a month. I get very bad period pain, very bad aches in my legs and pelvis and I have lots of clots. Should I see a doctor? My periods use to be a lot heavier than this. Also, probably not relavent, but just in case. I had a very high blood loss during all three labours and I bleed for 13 weeks after having each one.

Hi I have had weight loss surgery and lost 9 stone 9lb's, however since losing the weight, I now have excess skin on my stomach and due to weight loss on my breasts they are very saggy and to add insult to injury have inverted nipples which seem to have got worse since the weight loss, I am unsure whether or not to apply to my GP as I don't know if the NHS would allow this.

I have just seen the embarrassing bodies episode of blood loss during a womens period. I have a regular heavy period, with some clotting, diziness but no real pain. This has always been difficult for me personally. Esp, in the first two days of my menstural cycle. Having said that, i have avoided getting it professionally checked. Do you have any advice on what i could do or maybe suppliments i could take to reduce the blood loss?

Hi,. not sure if this is normal but my husband every now and again has episodes of bleeding from the tiny veins in his testiles which pop open and stream out blood should he be concerned or not? as when this occurs it dose take quite a while for the blood loss to slow down and eventually stop. His age is 48 and in good health.

When l started my periods l was sixteen and l only bled for four days. My first two days were always very painful but was told that this would get better when l had children and it did. When l hit my thirties my periods just went very heavy was still only bleeding for four day but the amount of blood loss was so heavy that l could not leave the house passing clots the nearly the size of tennis balls. My husband had to help me get to the bathroom as from the waist down my clothes were literally soaked in blood and the weakness was very bad this went on for months. I went to G.P and was refereed to hospital were l had the lining of my womb lazered. In my situation best thing l had done my periods went back to normal for 10 years. Then everthing started back up again large amounts of blood loss and the clots was advised on having the lining taken away again but was told that it might not work, this did not work then I decided on a hysterectomy and l have never looked back for me this was the right decision.

I'm 39 and have had internal and external hemorrhoids for over 20 years. I have had creams, suppositories etc prescribed. I have massive blood loss on a regular basis and pain which sometimes feels like I'm passing razor blades. The blood loss causes me to become anaemic, so I have to take iron tablets which then give me tummy ache, diarrhoea and exacerbates the blood loss! Previously I have had colonoscopies and siegmoidoscopies and numerous banding treatments which helped for a short period of time but then the bleeding returned. I was diagnosed with type 1 latex allergy in 2004, so now cannot have banding treatment. The bleeding is very profuse and embarrassing, as I can flood at any point during the day at work, or at night and I am at my wits end. I recently saw a new consultant (because of relocation) and explained my previous history. He wants to inject to reduce swelling, but I am not happy because I know it won't cure my problem and will be painful and I'll be back to square one. It ruins my quality of life, not to mention my non-existant sex life. Luckily I have a very understanding husband. I have always eaten healthily with plenty of fruit and veg and have only suffered constipation during pregnancy, which my last was over 10 years ago. Surely after suffering this long I deserve a more permanent treatment.

see what your doctor says, i take cocodamol for pain and tranexamic acid or heavy bleeding, ive been diagnosed with endometriosis so im on controlled tablets but they work so go to your gp =] the pain isnt from the blood loss its your muscles cramping up to release blood

Hi I'm Toby aged 20. In the last 7 weeks now I've been having some really heavy rectal bleeding, nausea, loss of apatite loss in weight, and abdominal pains. Most the pain is directly down my right side of my body. I find myself needing to open my bowels up to 8-9 times in a day, of which is just blood! I had some blood test done about 2 weeks ago, which came back all clear. So I was then referred to my nearest hospital for a further test. ( Colonoscopy) The doctors are still not confident enough to say what it could be. Though they reckon it could be Crohn's Disease or Colitis. I am now awaiting a further Colonoscopy test and biopsy. When I was in hospital last they said the I had very severe inflammation to my bowels but can not say what else is going on inside of me, until I have my biopsy. Do you reckon surgery is needed? also what are your thoughts? Many thanks.

What do you suggest to treat fibroids? Sometimes I have really heavy periods and the blood clots that I am loosing, are not only making me feel lethargic, but also it becomes worrying if you are out anywhere and are not able to get to the toilet in time. You are aware that you are not able to control the blood loss and there are times when a tampon and sanitary towel are not sufficient. I think a hysterectomy would be my last resort and I don't really like the idea of a coil. Is it right that you can have a laser treatment?

I'm 20 and have been suffering from intermittent severe pain, almost constant diarrhoea with blood (5-10 times average day), rectal bleeding, mouth ulcers, joint pain, severe aneamia, weight loss and loss of apitite for the past few years. I have no energy to work and I sometimes have days where I can't keep anything down, not even water. I've had tests, but they came back inconclusive. I got talking to a neighbor and he said it sounded like IBD, he's had Crohn's for most of his life and was ignored by his GP for 4 years before he was diagnosed, he's worried that the same might be happening to me. Can anyone help??

Hi, i am very worried about my partner. He is 28 and has been suffering with severe blood loss from his anus for as long as we have been together. He has been medicated over the years for hemeroiods by his GP, but still he would suffer with the loss. In the end he was so fed up with having to take time off work that he just tried to ignore it and left it to see if it would go away. Big mistake its become worse. Last year (2012) in November after a very long wait he had the endoscopy camera to see inside his colon. There was alot of inflamation and was given medication to reduce this. Since last November the medication has not worked and now he is experiencing stomach cramps and thick blood and clots and having to rush to the toilet every 30mins. He has rang the endoscopy clinic and they have said the camera did not show anything other than inflamation of the large intestine. This is now taking over his life through having to rush to the toilet every half hour. I am very worried and so is he as something is going on but we are being told different. Please can somebody help could this be bowel cancer?? I am so frieghtend

I would insist he has a barium meal and follow through , this is a drink which shows up on xrays , what happens is you drink the barium and then a series of xrays are taken every so many minutes to follow the barium through the dijestive system this will show up any narrowing of the bowel or obstruction among other things.. Please do not allow yourselves to be fobbed off , I was diagnosed with Crohn's 15years ago but had, had it for 3 years before and had repeatedly seen my gp etc who in the end tried to tell me it was all in my head. But then I had a huge complication that almost killed me. Now your partner may not have Crohn's but something is very obviously wrong. PLEASE demand someone listen and help it may turn out to be nothing but whatever it needs sorting. Good Luck

Thankyou sarah for the advice we wil make another appointment with the gp and demand this procedure to be done what u have recommended. Thankyou once again.

I would like to know more about the mental and emotional problems connected with the menopause - for instance loss of confidence, connected with loss of mental agility, memory loss etc. Is there anything I can be prescribed? I was told by my GP that HRT can only be given for two years, and she will not continue to prescribe this although it did help

I have scarring alopecia (cicatricial alopecia). This condition is never mentioned when alopecia comes up on TV programmes. My hair loss is permanent and I have had little information to help either disguise it (Get a wig? No thanks!)or reduce its psychological impact. I was mis diagnosed at first and was more annoyed at that than losing my hair. Luckily my hair loss is on the crown and I can just about cover it up at the moment. Perhaps we should all just dare to be bare in a show of unity. There are alot of us about! BTW my consultant said he doesn't believe it to be an autoimmune disorder as no white blood cells are present in the skin/hair folicle

i have scarring alopecia too and i have had it about 15 year now but it is getting worse.as a women my hair is very important, i understand it will never grow back but i just would like to no what causes it to fall out so could do something about it. i feel there is no reserch going in to it and i am getting fustrated.

My bother hasn't been to the dentist in years and has lost many of his teeth. They just fall out. He told me that when he wakes up in the morning there is a large amout if blood on his pillow. His gums are extremely recessed and as the day goes on, his gums come back up. He is terrified to go to the dentist and I am worried that this is something bigger than gum disease. Especially with the nightly blood loss. Can you share anything that I may help him with? Thanks

Ive been suffering with exactly the same symptoms from the tender nose to bad smell but my symptoms also include 2 very large lumps in my right nostril, regular nosebleeds which are getting worse and inability to sleep due to not being able to breathe. I have found nothing on the internet and have only just been referred to an ent specialist but cant be seen until april ! Im at a loss as ive had countless blood tests which has confirmed I have no infections etc but have shown up a blood clotting disorder and feel my gp isnt taking me seriously.

Your body is still trying to work the timing and blood loss out. They should settle down within a year. Even then you can go months without having one. it's not unusual. It's perfectly normal and everyone's is different.
