PLEASE HELP! I am a 30 yr old male and have always been very active and healthy untill 6 months ago. I have chronic diarrhea, bloody stools, mucus stools, terrible abdominal pain and cramping, I have been for all the tests and scans but nothing is showing up so the Drs have said nothing is wrong with me. I am in so much pain and discomfort now. I have tried imoduim, loperamide, the drs put me on a course of steroids ( i am off now), I have tried cutting out green food, I have been eating very plain food (limiting spices, salt, sugar) I am now trying to cut out gluten and wheat but now I am left with very few choices of what I can eat... I thought it may be IBS but the Drs can't confirm what i have as my symtoms are chronic. No medicine is helping. What can I do/ take and what could be the cause of all of this?

Have you been referred for a sigmoidoscopy? (medical camera in the anal passage). I would have said you might have IBS. If Doctors have supposedly done all the tests, then something should have been found, these things don't happen for nothing.

Hi I've had a creamy discharge for about 18 months now but in the last two days it has been a bloody browny colour and when I go to the toilet and wipe on the tissue its in a big Black/brown bloody blob I'm really worried its serious :(

hi i came on this website to ask about the same thing! I have been looking at other websites and they say that it is a sign that your period is starting and nothing serious. Abie (im 14) xx

I have suffered with constipation for quite some time now. My stools are almost always hard and difficult to pass, and I tend to poo three or less times a week. I have recently become aware that before I need to relieve myself I can feel the stools through the back of my vaginal wall? Applying a gentle (painless) pressure to this helps me a lot in passing stools. Unfortunately because of my busy schedule at the moment I cannot go to the doctors for around another month, but I still want to try and solve this problem. Is there any way I can without being prescribed anything?

I too had C-Diff, I got it in hospital after an operation for bowel cancer, and I have exactly the same symptoms. I was told that it was caused by the anti-biotics that were used after my op. the bad bacteria present in everyone's gut literally thrive on these anti- B's. I was given stronger anti-biotics to kill the bad bacteria. I did get better but due to the C-Diff being ever present in the gut. I do get bouts of serious diarrhoea about twice a week. So I have resolved myself that I have to live with it

Hi Julie, don't be worried but definitely go and see your GP. Tell them all of your symptoms and make sure they have a good look around there too (I know it's embarrassing, but it's better than guesswork)! Just think that little bit of embarrassing could help you find out what's going on and how to treat it!

Hello, im 15years old and i've noticed a sudden change in my stools... Two days ago I vomited about three times in the morning.. After that I sat on the toilet to empty my bowels, a yellow liquid has seemed to replace my stools, its an ongoing problem since April 15th 2014, should I get this checked out or not, and what can I do?

This was my situation when I was 13 and after several months of the doctors giving the wrong answers from the FLU to upset stomach the vomitting turned into acid and was burning my throat...long story short have the doctor check your appendix. waited to long for me and almost killed me.it can be poison to the body when it burst. not to scare you but go now!

Should stools appear a similar colour for the majority of the time as I have had light coloured stools, very dark stools soft stools, hard stools, stools that looked like a pile of wet concrete (apart from the colour of course) small lumps/balls (like rabbit droppings) and quite large stools which almost block the toilet. Bright red blood in the bowl and dark blood in my stools. I have had everything up or down examining my insides and had the camera capsule but nothing was found to suggest why I was experiencing these symtoms. I now don't even ask my GP as I feel it is a waste of her and my time.

Hi all, I'm a 30 year old male and wanted to share my story of UC with you all. It started when I was about 25, I had major cramping in my abdomen, then started to have loose stools and bloody stools. I ignored it for a few months thinking maybe internal hemorrhoids after doing online research. Anyways, after a few months I told my wife about the bloody stools and she made me go to a doctor, which was very embarrassing to me to tell a doctor about my bloody stools. The doctor referred me to a gastrointestinal doctor. I had a colonoscopy done and the gastro concluded I had colitis. Not Ulcerative, just in my rectum. I started using rectal medication, when once again, embarrassing to tell my wife I had to shove bullet looking things into my butt. Flair ups would continue to happen, sending me to the restroom constantly and sometimes it was so painful I didn't want to leave the house. So I decided to go to another doctor cause the once I first went to was rude and when I told him of my reoccurring problems told me it must be because I am sticking item in my rectum...which was not the case! other than the meds he prescribed. So I went to a gastro dr. He did another colonoscopy and told me not only did I have Ulcerative Colitis, but 90% on my intestines were covered in bleeding ulcers. I was put on steroids and given medication to treat this. After a few months, the meds were not working so I went back. Turns out my case was too bad for the oral meds to work. I now am treated using a infusion called Remicade. I go once every 8 weeks and get an infusion, just like a cancer patient would (except less often of course)other than the IV it's painless, only side effects are that I get real tired a couple hours after the infusions and need to sleep for a while. So far, it's been a couple years and I haven't even had one flair up! I have relief finally! So anyways, as long as I have the same results and relief I will continue to use the Remicade. Ask your doctor if maybe you should do infusions if the pills are not providing with relief. I swear by them! I do occasionally still have the IB symptoms but not nearly as bad and it's usually due to the foods I eat, I normally know when I need to get home quickly after eating!

hi my name is mark I have read your post and I would like to let you know that I can simpethise with you as I had US in the early nineties the docs use to tell me to get out as I was to young and was lazy trying to make up an excuse not to work we had no Internet then but when I did finally collapse it was actually at the wheel I was take to hospital and it took the ages to find out what I hadeven when they did they were still limited in the knowledge of how to treat it! I went through hell for years the only thing that was available then was a colostomy (full) so live on around 55 tabs per day with all the side effects the gps were still unless too! in the end about 8 years later a new registra came stepping hill he had trained in the usa and could do a j pouch op for me it was a bit long winded I was in my death bed at the time enyways at the time so I when for it and have never looked back! I am so glad to know now that there is other means of treatment for the terrible condition theas days in gives me some comfort to know that people like you are finding some relief for I would like to put as a living hell with no end you mentioned cancer well in some ways sometimes thinking back when I had it a my worse I felt like I was a permanent chemo with no promis of hope or sentence with no help it was a trial in hope well its all behind me now, if you ever need any advice on the j pouch op please dont hesitate to message me back however from what you say in you post it sounds like you have it under control, take care mark.

I've had an intense itch around my anus for a few days now, I also have a strange creamy bloody tint to my stools though I can't feel any hemaroids around my anus. It's getting tedious now and I'm bored of reapplying cream constantly, any idea of what's wrong.

As this is a recent problem, and there is blood you should definitely go and see the Dr. An itch is one thing, internal bleeding quite another!

You should not get blood in your stools with IBS, it could be something serious like chrons (My brother has this and he had blood in his stools, really bad cramps, loose stools and ended up in hospital really ill after the doctor kept saying it was IBS because it gets worse until treated), however there are a number of possible conditions, so you should make an appointment to see your doctor again.

Im a 23 year old female an have had a wierd bowel habbit for about 8 weeks now i started off having browny/orangy mucus from my bottom after pooing then my stool started looking orangy brown, then i had one pale stool and now my stools are light brown, i did experience a bit of constipation and loose stools i have been really worried as im pretty sure my stools were dark brown before, although the mucus seems to have stopped for a week or so i still have light brown stools sometimes with darker brown round bits in it, i have never ever seen blood though what should i do? Is this likely colon cancer? I also havent been constipated in a while

I have a similar thing. I have had it for three years. I have been to the doctors twice ,but they just frown and look at me as aif I am mad. I did insist on a test for poo in the stool but it came back as clear. Please can Dr Christian reply to this as this has been worrying me also for some time. I am usually constipated. My poos are dark brown with a white mucus, orange stringy stuff and some times what looks like excess dark brown bile. GPs only seem concerned about diarrhea and bleeding.

To unnamed and Angela, Snap it sounds very similar and had have the same experience even told they couldn't justify hospital scans! after putting it down as ibs.. which i don't think it is.. however after 8mths of this there now referred me to a hospital consultant ..but still to have a date. .. and Angela don't worry as your young its unlikely to be cancer

Hi I have been diagnosed with a mild rectal prolapse but was told to hold off on surgery until I decide if I want more kids ( I have two already). Would having more kids if I had surgery affect the repair? Also, I have mucus in my stools, gas on passing stools/mucus and either constipated or stools are like baby poo. Are these syptoms associated with the rectal problem or could they be sign of something else? thanks

I was having multiple bloody nose due to stress. I went to the ENT and he cauterized the area on my septum. He burned a small hole through the soft tissue! After a couple months it the area rotten away. A different ENT did surgery, took tissue from either nostril and tried to close the hole,it rotted out! I have severe migraines now from the surgery and constant sinus infections. It's difficult to breathe at times, and this past winter I started having bloody noses again. So frustrating!

Oh you poor thing! I had very bad bleeding nose...blew and blew til I realized I had blown a good size hole in my septum. Its not sore and although I still get blocked sinuses I'm not too worried about it...just doing a sinus rinse most days, keeping a medicated ointment on it and taking a sinus tab each day....by all accounts people who have had buttons and surgery aren't too happy with them

I was very surprised to see your programme last week and the problems experienced by 43-year-old Sandra from Derby. I have a similar problem where sometimes I have to encourage stools out by pressing my fingers against the skin around my anus or between my anus and vagina - I can actually feel the stools in there. I think I have stretched the internal skin and caused a misshapen rectum when trying to help out the stools if they seem particularly stuck, which I did for years as a young woman in a hurry (I'm 48 years old now). Although I have a very open relationship with my doctor, I am embarrassed by this problem and would like some advice please.

    i have the same

Try this. It isn't an old wives tale. It's my own discovery. Instead of sitting on the toilet seat, stand at a 45 degree angle and press your hands upon the opposing wall, similar to isometrics. Then bear down and let go.Your rectum & intestine will straighten out and give a much easier path for the stools to evaculate. It's works for me every time. Just make sure you have a good aim. Hope this helps you.

I have problems moving my bowels I can go up to 4/5 days without having a motion and there is blood in the stools. I have been into hospital to check for piles, which I don't have and they recommended I try to keep the stools soft by eating better which I have tried to do but I still have the same issue. Can you suggest something to try and make me more regular? Thanks

Hi my 10yr old daughter has had feacal impaction causing overflow diarrhoea, she has been on movicol but it hasnt worked, she was admitted into hospital where she was given lactolose and 2 ememas, she has been discharged without any medication for 5 wks, but unfortunately we got 2 weeks down the line and she hadnt passed a stool for 5 days, i took her back to the gp and he gave her picolax, this has worked and she was continually passing stools for about 30hrs. My worry is that her stools are very dark and thick looking, could this mean that she has blood in her stools, the doctor that she is under at the hospital doesnt seem at all worried about her condition, but I am very worried and would like your advise. Thanks

Ive had problems with my bowel ever since i had my daughter who is aged 3yrs, i have been to the docs who just said this was constipation, some days my stools are really hard like balls but most of the time it is like passing a submarine, they are very long and very wide and is constantly blocking the toilet. Thing is everytime i go to the loo and try to pass stools, im in agony, i have been in tears with the pain quite often & its cutting my anus, & as the stools are so big and sometimes they are soft but just to big to pass. I end up sitting for about an hour, and the pain is near enough to the pain of giving birth. I dread going for a number 2. Before i had my daughter i never had any problems with this.
