I get this too, mainly it occurs when I haven't shaved my legs and the hair is beginning to gorw back, I get the scars too and eventualy they do fade :) Try the nivea soft (the one in the white tub) it alleviates the itching a little.

I had a similar condition on my legs - right down the front of my shins on each leg for years and years. The itching was so great that I couldn't resist it, even though it made it worse. After being prescribed loads of creams, the only one that actually cleared it up is called Dermovate cream. Sometimes it breaks out again, but a couple of days of this cream sees it off. Good luck.

I have folliculitis on my legs and have finally found a remedy that works. My doctor has been worse than useless! I have about a litre of water each day containing 4 teaspoons organic cider vinegar, I drink it whenever I am thirsty. I also drink other things (Tea, juice, plain water etc) and I use cotton wool to spread cider vinegar across my legs on itchy spots. and it is working, workiing very well. This last week I have slept through with no itching, I have no new breakouts and my legs are beginning to heal. I am amazed!! Oh by the way, I don't smoke and I don't eat sweets and have very little sugar in my diet or white bread or wheat.

a few months a go itchy red marks appeared on both my legs, they stopped itching and bcame raised, but since then they have not been a bother, although they remain on my legs, i;ve treid using e45 cream on my legs, and been to my gp but i did not recieve a answer. i live in the lake district, but as far as im aware ive not been bitten by a tick or anything.

I had Lyme desease as far back as when I was 19 yrs of age I am now 58 ys old and only just found out last week that I had Lyme desease. Since 1990 i have been disgnosed with M.E. and now Ihave fibromyalgia and I put this down to not being treated when I first got Lyme desease which back in 1971 not one doctor had a clue what was the matter with me the rash I had was painfull red hot to touch an sprad to around 12 ins at the back of my leg, it came back yr after yr after yr after yr went away but reered it's ugly head in the form of M.E. on xmas day 1990 and I have suffered ever since with bad health and can you imagine only finding all this out last week I was heartbroken because my family life suffered so much when My son was little I feel that I missed out so much with being ill. Only if the medical proffesion had picked this up when I went to them with the desease all those yrs ago and I have suffered and still am suffering after all this time so please make sure you get to your GP and tell him about what I have just said If I can stop another human siffering like I HAVE since 1971 them I am glad that I was able to do that.

I am so embarrassed by the lesions on my legs. Going to a dermatologist was not fruitful. Why is no research being done on this? I started getting the skin circles on my lower legs in my lates twenties, which twenty years later are now numerous and a brown/purple colour, with the tell tale plug in the middle. I am now seeing pale circles on my cheeks. I am worried that these will become more pronounced in colour. Can anyone recommend a concealer for legs and face? I dread the summer season where everybody has legs on show....

I also have a classic case of DSAP which I inherited from my father. I diagnosed myself 25 years ago at the age of 37 when no GP or dermatologist could - I researched my symptoms on the internet. I try to stay out of the sun and keep covered - not fun in summer. I have found that Derma Blend ( purchased at the makeup counter at The Boston Store) conceals very well particularly for the less noticable lesions on my lower arms. I first apply a non greasy sun screen and then the Derma Blend which does come in different shades. You have to experiment to find the shade that works best for you and I often mix shades. I cover the area with a light dusting of baby powder which helps seal the Derma Blend. I wait 5 minutes then brush off the powder with a makeup brush. It works pretty well and lasts for a few days as the Derma Blend is water proof. My DSAP has gotten worse over the years no matter how I protect myself from the sun. It has covered most of my lower legs but thankfully only a small portion of my arms. I do have a couple of spots on my upper forehead but hopefully they are due to age not DSAP. Good luck to everyone coping with this unusual condtion.

My boyfriend has very bad legs with prominent veins and gradually the whole skin around his legs has become dark. I see videos on this website which make me think that this is a pigmentation problem. This is probably why the doctor told him it was nothing. However he does not explain and his varicose legs sometimes are very itchy and there was a burst of 1 vein once and another one seem to burst soon. I have seen his legs deteriorating over the 5 years of our relationship. I just wonder how can someone help so that he feels less heavy on his legs, now in Winter or Summer he suffers on both legs. Doctors do not explain just say this is varicose veins and NHS treatment is only foam treatment which is not suitable for his veins. If you have suggestions on how to help him suffering less, on assessing if this is really pigmentation or not on his skin and how to prevent the itch and the pain when he is at work(he is forklift driver day time and caretaker at a sportscenter evenings and weekends), that would be useful. Kind regards Catherine

Hi. I was under going a course of laser hair removal which was successful everywhere but on my legs. After the first treatment I was covered in about 30 burns along my shin bone on both legs. I wouldn't say they scabbed but they scaled. Once the scales came off I have been left with white scars or hypopigmentation in the scales place. I am extremely embarrassed to have my legs on show and 4 months on there is no sign of improvement. Is there anything I can do about this? Creams, sun or time that can improve the situation?

speak to doctor about hypermobility. I was diagnosed over 10 year ago when i was 17, often genetic i think, based on missing protein between liagaments in joints, something like that anyway!.Many sufferers are quite flexible and knee and elbow joints often bend further back than straight( Bowed back slightly) That was some of the things my gp looked for when I was diagnosed. I suffer mainly in hips and back. Joints click unexpectedly or lock up and am forced to click them. Also experience near constant dull aches and unexpected sharp pains. Excersise is supposed to help, physio in more serious cases. I neglected to follow early advice and suffer for it now! so worth mentioning it to gp. Hope that helps.

I have had varicose viens since i have been 11. They have got worse as i have got older. I am very embarrassed by them and hate anyone seeing my legs as you can imagine this is very hard when you're in a relationship. It really gets me down. I have spoken to my GP about them as they can become very sore at times and cause my legs to become very painful, itchy and sometimes there is bruising around or near them - i was told to take painkillers and rest my legs elevated. I would glady have my legs removed!!! I am so fed up keeping my legs hidden and want to be confident about showing them off, feel sexy and be able to wear shorts in the summer.

I had my first varicose vein around ten, i had it removed when i was 19. Since then the came back with vengence in both legs and i had an operation to strip both legs last june [I am 33]. The doctor forgot one of the veins, I had 3 infections and even now my scars are still dark pink and prominent. I have new veins coming up, and even after all that I went through I would still have it done again as I just want to be able to wear skirts or dresses like a lad should [I have never been able to due to embarassment]. I have broken veins all over my legs, and more just keep appearing all the time. I have the legs of an old lady. I also constantly get restless legs [dont know if this is anything to do with this or not].

Now they are beginning to appear at the tops of my arms. It's horrible. I know i havent exaplined them very well but if you have any idea what it might be i would be very grateful.

i have had ingrowns on my legs since using hair removals creams that made the skin on my legs really dry and caused the ingrowns. i exfoliate every day, moisturise and use ingrowgo which is helping but i still get them really bad and its embarassing as i have to use make-up on my legs if i have my legs on show i have looked into laser treatments but they are really expensive and waxing makes my legs have the chicken drumstick effect i cant shave as my hair grows back in a day so i epilate and i understand it is probably the worst option but seems the only one out there for me

Hi, i have had extremely itchy lower legs for over 3 years now and it is starting to control my life, when i first started experiencing this it was only on the odd occasion the itch was there but now its daily. My legs seem really dry and the hairs on my lower legs are very prickly. I have tried many creams etc and nothing seems to help. I shave my legs in the bath to take the itchyness away and once my legs enter the water after shaving there is a nipping sensation, this sensation is nice at the time as it feels better than them feeling really itchy. After the bath my legs return to being very itchy again, please can somone help me find a solution to this or even a diagnosis, thanks in advance

Hi am a young teenage girl and I have found it has been a particular concern of my legs. I previously 5 years ago cut my legs shaving and since then have cut myself and grazed my legs in certain areas and with this I have not shown my legs for that period of time because of the embarrassment of it. So this has caused my legs to be a lot lighter than the rest of my skin tone colour, which is very noticeable. I was wondering if there is any recommendation for what i can do to gett rid of my marks and scars that are seriously deep and even out my skin tone on my legs. Also I have very small dark dots on my legs that look VERY unattractive and are my main cause of embarrasement to my legs which is another reason for not showing my legs. Also when i shave it doesnt make a difference to how my legs look. They are stil very unattractive and dark aswell as having skinny legs it looks like more and darker. I would really reallly love a recommendation on how to get there dark (possibly root hairs or ingrown hair) to be lighter and darker skin tone.As i have my leavers prom in 3 weeks time. I would really like the fastest and most effectively way possible to help with this problem to make me feel better and look better. Thank you very much and would will hope to hear from you very soon.

unfortunely there is not much you can do... you can get creams from your chemist. it's for stretch marks that might help. but the main thing is laser skin treatments are the best but they are quiet dear. i hope this helps

you obviously don't really know what eczema is...as what you have described is just scars. Eczema is a lot worse, count yourself lucky please I suffer from scars on my face, arms and legs and cant get rid of them because of the constant eczema which stops them healing.

I've realised that I have another symptom that I'm not sure is connected. If my feet/legs get cold, even if the rest of me is warm, I suffer will nagging aching legs. I've suffered with this since I was about 7 years old. At the time the doctor told my Mum that I had growing pains. Pain killers don't seem to have much effect and I can find it difficult to sleep with the pains in my legs. I have to try and warm my legs up by wrapping them up with a blanket and using hot water bottles. Sometimes my legs are sweating but still aching! Does anyone else get something like this? Is it part of the Reynauld's?

Im 16 and pregnant i understand that i will get strech marks but is it normal to get them all over my legs i have them from the top of both legs to the bottom im scared of showing my legs even to my boyfriend

i no exactly how you feel i had scars on my legs and felt very self concious and never show my legs but i would try lazer treatment specialy formed for your legs its helped me alaot

I'm 17 now, but I had eczema for just over a year when I was about 14. It was a nightmare for becoming itchy and when I scratched it, it would bleed. As it was all over my legs, trousers were uncomfortable and I had to buy really baggy ones to stop them from touching my legs, skirts were out of the question as my legs looked so dreadful! Eventually after about 6 months, I got hold of Oilatum. I mixed it in with some water in the bath and soaked my legs in it. After a while using it I could se the change and my legs got slowly better and after a few months it completely cleared up. I strongly recommend this, however I know different things work for different people! But this worked wonders for me! Something else I would recommend to stop any itching is eucerin, it helped and also calamine lotion helped to really cool my legs down when they were really sore! Hope this helps!

My mother is 93 and in a nursing home. She has had diabetes for about 23 years. Both her legs below the knees are seriously ulcerated to the point where she now has only weeks to live. We (the family) were told she got an infection but they didn't say from where. I presume it was infection from the ulcerated legs. The nurses there left her legs for days without re-dressing them because they said to dress them too often won't help them to heal. Her legs would smell terribly bad. I am wondering whether the dressings should have been changed more often or whether this would have happened anyway.

I am sorry about your Mum but I would agree with the nurses about not changing the dressings too often. Having worked in elderly care for years and I currently have a leg ulcer myself at 48 yrs I would say they had your Mum's best interests at heart. By changing your Mum's dressing too often they would put her through undue pain and distress for no reason. It is normal to have dressings changed weekly and they do smell. Keeping your Mum calm and as comfortable as possible and surrounded by lots of love from you (her family) is definitely what she most needed.
