I am currently undergoing tests for bowel cancer & didn't have any problems until a few nights ago I seem to be very windy & nothing will help to ease the problem. Whatever I eat I end up going to the loo I drink a lot of water (boiled or cold) I also take Movicol 2x daily & the pain around my gut is still there. Is there anything I can do to relieve what I hope is wind. I've even resorted to taking a senna tablet & although it cleared me out the dull ache still remains. In the past I've had a bowel resection as my small bowel was severely blocked. Please help Thank you

I have tried eating or drinking yoghurt. This seems to help with digestion. But what really helps with pain from wind is having strong ginger tea made from actual ginger root, boil it up and drink. Add sugar if you want it to be more palatable.

Hi, I'm 19 years old and have been having periods for 5 years.. ever since I started I have experienced painful bowel movements and bleeding from my bowel! Over the last 2 years the pain has become severe, I have been to my GP who recommended I have surgery to look inside my womb for signs of endometriosis, but nothing has been found. I have been seen by countless doctors and bowel specialists about this pain but they have just said it could be IBS, so I researched IBS on the internet but could not relate to anyones experience with IBS! Has anyone has the same symptoms as me, I am desperate to find someone who knows what I am going through!

When you bleed from your bowel, is it fresh blood, or is it a dark colour? Bright red fresh blood is usually associated with hemorrhoids, fissures (these two very close to the end of the digestive system), or even diverticulitus (Fever, pain in the left lower abdomen, and bleeding in your stool all may be signs of diverticulitis - it is usually linked to shelled foods like nuts and corn, if this sounds like any similar symptoms you have). Darker blood can be a sign of bleeding further up the digestive system. You may need to do some further research into other less common reasons as to why you have your symptoms. Hope everything turns out okay, and you find out what's been causing you these problems! :)

Also, what I have suggested may totally not be what you have. I'm just putting some information down, as for you to research your symptoms. Hope it helps though :).

4 weeks ago I had a Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy, and a Novasure ablation. During my surgery, the surgeon found that I had severe Endometriosis, and treated it accordingly. He also found that my vagina and my lower bowel are fused together, he couldn`t treat it whilst I was in theatre, as I needed an empty bowel. This answers a few `issues` that I have regarding sex and when passing stools. Do you think this is Bowel Endometriosis, or is it something else. Also, how would it be treated? Please help, as I`m going out of my mind with worry. Thankyou very much.

Hi, my vagina opening looks strange like there's an obstruction? I've had sex multiple times and it can sometimes be painful and other times enjoyable I'm convinced it isn't my cervix as it looks nothing like it and is right at my opening the closest thing I have seen similar is a rectocele? I'm 20 do I make an appointment with a usual GP or ask for a specific doctor?

When I have a bowel movement I more often than not notice a large amount of semnen in the bowl and at the end of my penis? Could this be an enlarged prostate being pressed by the bowel?

In my 40s i had a Hysterectomy and ovectomy due to PCOS and Endometriosis. In the last couple of years i have noticed that my bowel pushes down internally into my vagina and after i have a no 2 I always feel that I am not finished, if i insert a finger into my vagina i can feel my bowel is still partially full!!! I have to then digtally evacuate my bowel through my vaginal wall. Can anyone help?

I have experienced the same with using a finger to push back the bowel so it could empty. I did have the operation, to push my bulge back. The op was called a s.t.a.r op. I spent 2 days in hospital, took me a couple of weeks to get used to doing a poo normally. It was worth having it done as it definatly improved my life.I do make sure that I dont get constipated. Now 18 months on I am waiting to see the specialist for a cyctocele, where my bladder is bulging from the other side of my vaginal wall, I do feel more anxious about this as I have been told it will need an op.

I too suffer with what you are describing. It is very embarrassing having to manually evacuate your bowl, feels somewhat "dirty". But I plucked up the courage and went to see my dr, who has put me in touch with a specialist - I will see him next month, Kinda very scared, as i am not sure what to expect. Will keep you updated. TBH - i would recommend that you go to the doctors - because lets face it, our problem is not going to go away by itself.

I'm 25 and although I don't suffer from a shy bladder, I get extremely anxious over my bowel movements. I go to the toilet probably 2-3 times a day for bowel movements although never at work. I get anxious at the thought of staying with friends and having to use the toilet in their company, even in a different room. It is hindering my life as I am reluctant to share hotel rooms etc and go on trips. Is there a pill I can take to prevent such frequent bowel movements, even for just a day? Would Immodium work, even if I'm not suffering diarrhea?

Hi I'm 20 years old, when I 5weeks old I had an obstruction in the bowel which left me with a nasty scar again when I was 10 years old I had another obstruction in my bowel and the doctors removed 20cm of it.That also left me with a scar, I now have two scars on my stomach which are rather large and embarrassing, I was wondering if there is anything, anything at all that I can use or have done to remove them, I just want to be able to like my body and not be so depressed and embarrassed about my stomach.

Sounds like you have paralytic ileus. Your nerves to the bowel are not working correctly. See a gastrointerologist at once. You could be at risk for life threatening bowel obstruction if not treated.

Get to a doctor fast! You could have a bowel obstruction which can be fatal if not treated.

HI...My fiance has been having stomach issues. Back in Nov. he had a small bowel obstruction. Now they are saying may be Crohns. He is having an Endoscopy in 2 weeks and had a Colonoscopy last year. When he has bowel movements they are off and on between very loose and hard. Recently , not all the time , when he goes it is brown with a couple of dark disk like shape(about size of a dime). Could this be blood. He is also has left side pain. Had CT and everything was ok except leaning toward Chrons. and a sinus tract. He took antibiotic for about a month and stopped because he felt it was contipating him. Can you help, concerned if he has intestional bleeding

I am passing blood along with a jelly like substance.Due to over straining there is a large internal obstruction covering inside of rectum. More strain brings this large red mass outside. Doc says no polyps, piles found. What is it?

Dont sound good or safe at all....Go back to Doctor, or get a second opinion from another Doc..

I've been in and out of hospital since February 2013 where i had obstruction, they performed a laperoscopy where they found a kink in my colon, and adhesions, they then made another incision in previous scar from my old appendix scar. I then rushed back into hospital where they another obstruction, but this particular consultant wasn't very polite 'lacked terrible on his community skills' even nurses dreaded assisting him to his patients, he wanted to use 'the old fashion' treatment ie suppositories, enigmas, laxido sachets, senna, domperidone, cyclizine another dr assessed me after a full week on all the above treatment (x-Ray) showed that the obstruction was still there!! The dr did examination and said my back passage was clear, they then gave me (pic a lax) to drink X-Ray still showed the obstruction but it had 'slightly' reduced in size, I'd had enough 4wks in hospital still feeling the same as i did when I was admitted! One consultant said that never known a case with an extremely slow working colon (bowel).... I eat granola cereal one or sometimes 2 bowls. Prior to that I had a full hysterectomy September 2011 i was 29yrs due to persistent heavy bleeding, I had my cervix removed but asked to keep my ovaries which they did, during post op recovery as an impatient I started vomit 'violently' just like the horror film "excersist". This because my bowel shut down 'stopped working' they called this persistent vomiting (ilious) from then onwards i physically gone down hill! I'm constantly in agony tummy bloating upper left side just under my ribs, I have bowel movement every 8-10days which is absolute agony feels like metal spikes an really thick very dark black colour it's like clay I couldn't even squeeze it was that solid!! Then I never finnish over 2/3 days I'll lose a couple of pebble size, i never empty but it just like it's closed up then it'll be another 8-10 days before I get another movement, last i get full very small amounts of food, I'm constantly nausea's and frequently vomit I've also just recently found after having a 'gastroscopy' that I have 'acute gastritis' . So constantly vomit after I eat an moving around. I've been bed bound since last September 2013..... I've tried being mobile then excruciating sharp Pain in my tummy which keeling over in pain. I'm on tramadol for ther pain, nothing seems to be working, I can no longer tolerate the sachets due to vomiting..... Sorry for the novel

I would insist he has a barium meal and follow through , this is a drink which shows up on xrays , what happens is you drink the barium and then a series of xrays are taken every so many minutes to follow the barium through the dijestive system this will show up any narrowing of the bowel or obstruction among other things.. Please do not allow yourselves to be fobbed off , I was diagnosed with Crohn's 15years ago but had, had it for 3 years before and had repeatedly seen my gp etc who in the end tried to tell me it was all in my head. But then I had a huge complication that almost killed me. Now your partner may not have Crohn's but something is very obviously wrong. PLEASE demand someone listen and help it may turn out to be nothing but whatever it needs sorting. Good Luck

I have been suffering from the same problem for more than 7 years.I had a proctogram test and was diagonised with a rectocele that is a hernia in my bowel.Stool gets trapped in the hernia thats why you find it difficult to pass stool and when u stand up the stool trapped in the hernia moves down causing you to have difficulty with bottom hygiene. The bowel specialist refered me for bowel feedback theraphy.its helpful as the bowel training equips you with skills of emptying your bowel wthout straining.Request to be referred to a bowel specialist.

Hi I'm a 29 year old male who I think I have a prolapsed bowel cause every time I have a bowel movement something comes out and it feels like my bowel what should I do. I don't really want surgery.

Does it feel like a grape sized protrusion? I could be a hemorrhoid, which is a small varicose or enlarged vein protruding from your anus. Usually harmless, these can become enlarged, irritated, and even produce some bleeding. A warm bath after a bowel movement can be soothing, as can some over the counter creams and ointments. See your doctor, and then the two of you can decided what the best long term treatment will help you. Don't be afraid. These are quite common and easily repaired.

I am 30 and have Crohn's disease. I have had mild bowel incontinence since I had a bowel resection when I was 16. Like with some of the other posts it occurs after a bowel movement and can be present for hours after. My issue is that it's affecting my sex life as I cannot be spontaneous as I have to make sure I'm clean before anything sexual happens. Any advice?

i have suffered from IBS for a number of years, i take herbal based medication every day and much greater amounts than recommended, if i don't take it , i don't go to the loo. Sometimes i get bad pains in my bowel and i'm always worried that my bowel could rupture during that time i sometimes worry when i'm actually evacuating that it will burst, can it?? Can taking such large amounts of laxatives over such a long time damage the bowel and does this long term problem indicate that i'll be prone to getting bowel cancer?

Make sure you keep your hospital appointment, it took long enough to get!and you need to make them aware how much it is affecting your confidence as they are there to help. I don't know if you will need surgery, but if so I don't see your age being a problem as you are still relatively young. Hope you can get it sorted out and that you are able to tell your new partner, you will need his support and understanding. Btw i went on this page as I am concerned I may have a rectocele myself and now I know I'm not the only one and am working up the courage to visit my GP about it.

Hang in there I also had both problems and I just had surgery. I am 58 years old. I have a wonderful doctor and the surgery was as simple as spending one night in the hospital. I am still recovering but very glad I had it done. GOOD LUCK

I had a peri anal fistula and the first bowel surgeon I went to didn't even know what was wrong with me and after four ops said it was nothing to do with my bowel. To cut a long story short, I found myself a brilliant bowel surgeon and after my first exploratory op, told me that I had a peri anal fistula. I had to have a temporary colostomy to heal my bowel and after seven months I got it reversed and have had no problems since. Maybe you might need to go down that road, it's well worth it. Let me know how you get on.

I had a rectocele and had the op.the best thing to go naturally is buy or ask doctor for Lactulose, this is only like sugar/water but it is magic, it softens the hard bowel and is used in all hospital cases.I begain doing what u do,pushing inside the vagine to pus it out the bowel,u could have a bowel prolapse.have it done.its when u get older that yr tro.ubles will start to get worse.

I have bowel movement about 1 a week and when it does move its little bits of stool. been on many different kinds of lacsatives nothing helped changed my diet nothing. going for operation in 2 weeks to have my big bowel removed had bowel movement problems from the age of 5 is there any other treament available without going for surgery

Bowel Cancer - the show was speaking to a lad with chronic constipation but one of things I noticed that was not suggested was getting him checked for Bowel Cancer. My own Bowel Cancer was only discovered because I was constipated for a month.

I am 27 male and strained one day on the toilet and noticed that something just dropped on my bowel. I've felt constipated and haven't had a normal bowel movement since then. When I do pass it is usually a large amount. I went through a period of passing a mucus like substance during bowel movements. My anus itches most of the time and I can see a small mass protruding when I try and have a bowel movement. Does this sound like a prolapse? I have an examination due at the end of this month. All of my symptoms point to a prolapse but I am worries this could be colon cancer? I would hope not since this began at age 23 or so... Just need some advice :..(

Hi. I am a 26-year-old female with a healthy diet and active lifestyle. I have always had quite sluggish bowels but didn't realize that it was abnormal to have a bowel movement once a week or less until a few years ago when I found out that many people have daily bowel movements. For the last couple of years I have been eating prunes every morning, and I have always eaten plenty of fruit and vegetables, but I still only have bowel movements once or twice a week. When I do have bowel movements, they are generally big and sometimes very embarrassing because I sometimes find that I have blocked the toilet and they won't go down the pipes. I think this problem is also affecting my running, as I often get stomach aches when I run and I think it may be because my bowel is too full but doesn't want to empty. Is there anything I can do to make myself more regular and avoid embarrassing toilet blockages?
