I have the same only with little blisters in the itchy red bumps, i'm being treated for shingles, but no pain in my leg.

I had shingles in my left buttock following a stay in hospital. I now have post hepatic neuralgia in the area, a year after the shingles healed. It has affected the left labia and my anus and can be very uncomfortable, with stabbing pain and difficulty in passing motions. My doctor tells me it should eventually improve. Is this usual?

Hi there, I had shingles inside my left ear about 2 years ago now, it went undetected for 3 weeks and I was told 6 times in the 3 week period that it was an ear infection, so I never received proper medication. Shortly after, I developed postherpetic neuralgia then trigeminal neuralgia, which affects the 5th cranial nerve which is conected to the eye, cheek and jaw nerves. I have had every medication possible but nothing helps and because I received inproper medication (NSAIDS) for pain that isn't treatable with NSAIDS, I have problems eating and with my stomach because of the damage. I've been told that the only options are either surgery or some sort of light pulses to kill the nerve endings. Ask your doctor for a referral to a neurologist, you will problebly have to see a pain specialist (anaesthetist) first.

I am a woman, 34 years of age. I have a skin problem in my left buttock area. I can't recall when I noticed it. It was comparatively small pigmented area. Now it seems to have spread over the large area and is now in blotches.

I have herpes on my buttocks and occasionally 'undercarriage'. I have had them for over 15 years now and reoccurring once, twice a month mainly with very painful neuralgia running up from my toes to my buttock. My GP says it is not sexually transmitted but like the cold sore virus. I have never had chicken pox but am on steroids which I think maybe why I get them so frequently. I have Aciclovir cream and tablets. Is there no cure or will I have this the rest of my life.

I have recently been diagnosed with a Basal cell carcinoma on the top right buttock. I have been applying Efudix cream for 6 weeks and have now been told to apply twice a day for a further 3 weeks. There seems little effect as the cream tends to rub off on my pants, the Doctor says not to cover it. Any suggestions and should I ask my own Dr to arrange a check of my body for other moles etc. thanks Alan

I have three large blisters surrounded by a red area on the outside of the top of my right buttock. I often get blisters sores on my chin with pain under my chin, that ooze fluid and crust. I have had blisters between my buttocks before on the right buttock, but lower down. These blisters that have appeared now are the biggest, and are tender but not sore as such. I have had them three days now. I would appreciate if you think they are impetigo or herpes. Any ideas please.

How can I tell if it is shingles or herpes? 58 yo. Outbreak of 2 dime or smaller spots on my Left buttock and 6 months later a cluster near that area. Burning nerve pain mostly following the sciatic nerve distribution down to my calf at the worst now centralized to hip area. First breakout DX as shingles second as Herpes. No known exposure in over 9 years and never had a herpes breakout before. Is it herpes or shingles? it does make a difference! Extra info: had a sarcoma in that buttock area 12 years ago treated with surgery and radiation. Any chance that alters the general picture?

I have had a Pilonidal Sinus for over 13 years now. This started when I was 15... not the best thing for a teen! I am now 28 and it is still an ongoing problem. I have lost count of the surgeries I have been through (ALOT!), utilising various methods. From closure, to excision, to open healing/packing. My latest operation was a full buttock rotation which has not only left my buttock completely misshapen but now 2 sinuses! I have almost reached the end of my tether, but it remains very dificult to manage, especially with the continuous bleeding and secretion. I have now started to see a new GP, who has asked for some 2 weeks to review my records! I hold on to little hope!

I totally understand. I had the big surgery about 18 yrs ago, I was 20, where they leave it open and pack it for months. That was supposed to be the cure. Well...it was for about 8 years and then came back. I refused to do the surgery again and now just treat flair ups with antibiotics. In between it have an in office procedure done, which was a horrible experience that left me open again and having to go to the hospital daily for two months for dressing changes. I will never let another dr touch it again. I stick to just the antibiotics now. Don't lose hope. Try not to feel pressured to do any procedure that you aren't comfortable with. Get second opinions from other doctors. Also check out pilonidal.org. Good luck and hang in there!

Hi Sarah, Sorry to hear you have the same prob, 7 ops in as many months seems a lot in a short space of time. After my last op I was getting daily dressings for about 10 weeks till they gave up. It started in my right buttock and has progressed down between the essentail bits :) It has been called an abscess, pilonidal / perianal whatever you call it, it's a pain in the ass. Only joking, as I have no pain at all now I am still keeping the next op on hold, going back to the hospital in June. Hope the next op works for you, keep me posted.

I'm 24 years old and I believe I have a vascular birthmark on my right buttock but none of the doctors I have seen seem to know what the actual medical name for it is - it is red/purple in color and has some quite large raised patches in certain places. It causes me alot of pain and discomfort and is very itchy at times but i've been waiting over 12 months to see a dermatologist now and I still haven't seen one. Please help!

Hi I am 18 and I have suffered with the same it started when I was two weeks old as a small blue dot and as I have got older it has grown bigger and more raised spreading out. I now also have small blue/purple dots on both sides of my lower back, the top of my back and arm. Like you it has caused me lots of pain and discomfort often swelling if I do too much walking or its a hot day. I mentioned it to my doctor who at first said it was a birthmark and nothing to worry about but after complaining more about the problem I was refereed to a surgeon who did scans on my legs finding out that it is quite deep so I can not have laser treatment I have had 4 operations on my leg now and it has helped ease the pain but I have found the operations often made the smaller blue/purple spots get larger. I recommend you keep speaking with your doctor and ask to be referred to a surgeon as it has helped ease my pain it might work for you. Hope this can help x

I have had urine infections for the last thirty years. I am now experiencing pain in my back and numbness in my buttock area. I saw a programme which showed a female urologist who specialised in difficult problems with uti's in London. I would like to know which hospital this was so I can pass this information to my urologist.

Hi this problem has been bothering me for the past 18 months and its started to get me down and made me become really stressed and sometimes cause me to breakdown. The problem is at the bottom of my right testicle is really sensitive and a slight touch can make me have pain all the time and can cause pain in my buttocks and legs right side mainly. I was diagnosed with epididyimitis on my left side but not the actual testicle just before i received this pain. Even though my doctor diagnosed me with epididymitis on the left side he has always said he cannot be sure it was even that. I have been cleared of any infection via an std check a semen and urine sample and also i have had 4 ultrasounds which have all shown my testicles to be normal without any damage or abnormalities apart from a epidmal cyst at the top of my right testicle which is really really small. I have now been told that its nerve damage which is why i get pain sometimes in my right legg and buttock and i have been told to live with the pain. I am so so worried about fertility because I really want to farther children and the thought of not being able to really stresses me out and horrifies me. I would realy like to know what is causing the sensitivity and do i really have to live with the pain. Is the pain coming from somewhere else like my back? Please help me i need answers

I had a injury to my lower back think I did it in the gym. For the first week I suffered pain in the lower back and restricted movement. The second week I have regained all movement, still have pain on the right side at the top of my buttock. I am also suffering neuro pain across my abdomen which is horrible. It is like pins and needles and is very tender and feels numb, but has improved very slowly. I have been taking paracetamol and ibruprofen, which helps at the time. I don't think that I have A herniated disc or discs, I have tried excersizing carefully stretching and walking the dog. The worst part of this is the burning tingling and tender to the touch sensation, it's horrible. Any advice would be appreciated. I intend to make an appointment for to see my doctor but no doubt I will have to wait a least a week. Thanks.

I have osteoarthritis of the lubar spine and fibromyalgia and suffering with hip and buttock pain. Ive managed to loose a stone but would like to loose another. People dont seem to understand that the exercise flares my fibromyalgia and osteo arthritis up terribly It is not easy. I have found "arthritis research" a good website for information. Kind Regards Tracy

i've had 5 surgeries for complex fistulation, the last one being a massive laying open that split my back passage from top to bottom and cut a 3cm hole into my anus and buttock and cut the sphincture. compared to seton wires, this experience although hideously painful to recover from, improved my health and pain levels dramatically once it had healed, despite some incontinence which means i cannot work. i now am on meds to control my bowel movements and treat the accompanying chrons disease/ibs the doctors keep arguing is responsible for the underlying condition, and have had two new opening occur in the last year. but i'm not afraid to have surgery as i know it cannot be worse than the constant pain and reinfection of the fistulae itself, so i would urge you to consider it.

I have had HS for last 30 yrs. With numerous surgeries which DID work in the affected sites some with with skin grafting including armpits, groins and more recently in my right buttock but had to have a colostomy which unfortunately is now permanent due to scarring and fistulars for which I've got a seton drain fitted. Antibiotics don't work they just 'dry' up the gunk for a few days to give some relief especially like me you're constantly sitting on a baseball size swelling now in the left buttock. It is not curable so am just hoping when I reach menopause it will diminish slightly but not holding my breath. I have not been able to work for the last 3 yrs and sometimes it can take me over 5 mins just to be able to sit down by gradually putting my weight on the swelling. I used to wear long sleeve tops when it was in the armpits but now I happily wear strappy tops if people see the scarring they have to deal with it not me - I did my bit for society when I covered up the boils and puss etc. If surgery is offer please seriously consider it - it does help, but I can guarantee it will appear elsewhere on your body, but you may have several months or maybe years before that happens.

Hello Dr Christian. Ive suffered from a chronic pelvic / Abdominal pain since 2004. Started as a dull ache deep in inside my abdomen which has got a lot worse and seems to have spread higher to under my right rib. Its very sore to sit on my right buttock and when I drive or sit down for about half hour my right leg goes numb which feels like a circulation problem. Then I feel faint and feel like I'm going to pass out as it effects my heart rate. When I stand up I get some relief in my leg as the circulation feels better but my chest takes a while to get to some normality as it drains all my energy for a while. Had a colonoscopy around 2005 which found everything in my bowel to be ok but they touched the spot exactly where the ache was I nearly jumped off the bed in pain. Had CT scan and xrays and also many different prescribed pills which have all failed in relieving me of any pain.
