Hello there, ive never in my life spoken to anyone about my labia before but i hate it.. its ugly and i just cant stand it. I have a question though, people have in the past said that after childbirth it can cause an enlarged labia, so if someone already has it can it get worse after childbirth? Just curious

I had to have my vagina walls peeled in my early 20's so I could have sex, use a tampon anything internal without tearing and bleeding. They said it was due to keloid scaring & that I couldn't have a natural childbirth ever. It is very tight and painful again now, 20 years later, no children. Do you think I need to be peeled again?

I'm 15 and a virgin and Im worried about this fleshy pink 'nub' coming out of my vagina. I've been looking up what it could be and everyone seems to be talking about a prolapse cervix but doesn't this only happen after childbirth or when you're older? It doesn't hurt or interfere with wearing tampons or anything else but it is noticeable protruding and I'm embarrassed to ask others about it. Thanks x

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and have had piles for at least a year now no matter how much fibre I eat or water I drink they don't go. They don't hurt, itch or bleed but I'm really worried because I heard they can burst during childbirth plus they are really starting to upset me but whenever I go to a doctor or pharmacist they just give me creams for symptoms (of which I have none!!). Is there anything I can do to actually get rid of them preferably before the birth?

When I was in labour with my child 2.5 years ago, the pain throughout childbirth was in my rectum and it was an inexplicable horrendous pain. Since then, every time that I do a poo, my bum hurts, bleeds and sometimes the pain from childbirth is replicated. Its awful. Sometimes after doing the toilet I feel sick and unwell. The doctor said it is just piles - is this correct? Please help me!

I'm 41, I too have large labia, (it is often uncomfortable wearing clothes) – they always have been quite large but since having my three children they are much bigger, I too always thought I was the only one and just put it down to childbirth, but I also put the fact that I didn't tear during childbirth down to the large labia, although it was a relief to hear that it's perfectly normal. But I've never had any complaints about it!

I have an enlarged labia & anal skin tag due to childbirth...I think it's wrong that these conditions are classed as purely cosmetic & cannot be done on the NHS as many women feel abnormal. I for one, hate the way I look down below & have gotten myself very upset on a number of occasions due to this. It may be a fact that it is quite normal, but I do not feel normal & am very depressed at the thought of having to save thousands of pounds to correct something from childbirth! the pain of chilbirth was nothing compared to the thought of being like this for the rest of my life!

I went to a GP about my inner labia being distended on one side, and made worse by a tear during childbirth. She referred me to a gyneacologist a the local hospital, who was slightly scathing but said she would put me down for a labiaplasty should I wish it. This was on the NHS... so money didn't come into it. However, I remember how painful stitching was after childbirth and it takes a while to heal. I the end I resorted not to take up this offer, though it still crosses my mind frequently as I'm very self conscious of the problem during sex and as another girl described, it can get trapped in clothing etc. Not nice. Hope that helps the few who've mentioned money for surgery if they really feel that's the way to go.

I too have an enlarged labia but I think mine have become more pronounced due to childbirth. I would urge any young woman contemplating surgery to think twice certainly until they have completed their families as childbirth may undo any reduction made. I would also say love the body that you were given. I have had a few sexual partners prior to being married and none have ever commented on my appearance down there. My husband of 11 years loves my body and we have a very active sex life despite having 3 children, he often says he finds me more attractive now than when we first met. Men just love vaginas, bottoms, boobs any shape or size!! Love yourself for who you are, if a man makes a deragotory comment about any aspect of your appearance they are not worth having anyway, confidence and self belief are key to being happy!

I am 44 years old and birthed two children vaginally, who are now aged 8 and 5. I seem to have some "new" extra skin folds around the lower part of my vaginal opening (closer to the rectum) and lately it is painful if that area experiences any friction, either through intercourse or even just wearing thong underwear (which I've been using all these years since childbirth with no problems). For example I noticed I have to almost hold myself more open for them to not get "in the way" during intercourse. I do also have some vaginal(and cervical?) prolapse and the vaginal canal goes off to an angle now, instead of more upward like pre-childbirth. I think that is a different subject, though, not related to the extra skin folds? Any information would be much appreciated.

Hi Ann this has happened to me as of 3 days ago! I have a week trip out of state scheduled tomo otherwise i would go to the doctor. Have you gone? What is this? ?

Hi Kim and Abi. I can't remember how long the waiting list was. I did see a physiotherapist first, who basically agreed my pelvic floor was knackered, and that surgery was only option really. Then referred to urodynamics and gynae. The repairs were straightforward-bit like a hernia repair. If you've had an episiotomy or torn in childbirth, this is about the same level of discomfort you'd feel after. A few days in hospital is expected. And a 6-8 week recovery time. But you must remember no sex, lifting or carrying either! A word of advice though, as my consultant advised against having both procedures done at once. Something to do with scar tissue and the risk of a very tight "ring" that would make sex very uncomfortable. And also, this surgery is generally not recommended until you have completed your family. As future pregnancy and childbirth could undo the repair!

hi, i had my son 11 months ago. i had a traumatic time due to pre eclampsia and difficulty delivering him. i was induced and prepped for a c section but had him eventually by forcepts and epsiotnomy(sorry if thats spelt wrong). he was a whopping 10lb 2oz. several stitches came out and got infected. i also had scepticemia due to my placenta being left in over a week and a lot of other infections. Since this i am in incredible pain everytime i have a bowel movement. there is loads of blood and the pain is akin to childbirth!! i have to pant through it and i cry everytime, everyday!! i feel nausious everyday. i can control my muscle only enough to get to the toilet but couldnt push it out any faster even if i wanted to (sorry) i also smell and occasionally leak from that area. my gp is no help and has said it will sort itself out and this is normal after childbirth. but it has been 11 months. can anyone help? is this normal?

Mine did this after childbirth. I went to see a cranial osteopath who solved it. Nothing intimate involved!

It is very normal to have big flappy lips. They keep the germs out, and stretch to allow childbirth one day. Don`t worry .

Hi I have a skin tag on my anus which occurred after a traumatic childbirth a year ago, its just started to feel sore especially when going to the toilet. what should i do?

My labia was slighty big before having my daughter and has since got bigger from childbirth. It just makes us all unique and is nothing to feel embarressed about. everyone is different down there so unless it hurts i'd accept its part of who you are

i have the same thing and after much research i think it is a vaginal vault or pelvic prolapse. lots of info online. going to md next week. usually caused by childbirth but can be from tumors.

As a direct result of childbirth I developed what the doctor described as individual small 'piles' all around my vulva. They sometimes bleed and can become sore..has anyone else had my experience? Is there any treatment?

very very rarely do mothers/fathers pass warts onto children during childbirth. They could be pearly penile papules which aren't contagious or an STI. it's just something weird men's bodies do

I am exactly the same, I am 43 and it started after childbirth. I suffer with anxiety which I know makes it worse. I have no answers but you are not alone, mine too is so loud it is scary and like you i dont think it is in the slightest bit funny,it is awful.
