    Sweaty Palms

Hyperhidrosis can affect any part of the body where there are sweat glands, but it is on the palms of the hands that it can prove particularly embarrassing. Read more →

Im 22 and I think raynaulds is something I may have. I have always suffered with freezing ice cold hands, feet, nose! My boyfriend flinches if i touch him because my hands are so cold! They are like this mostly everyday and the only way I can keep warm is if we have the heating on a million degrees which then means he is very hot! I've been to the doctors and I have had thyroid tests (through blood test at dr's) and a diabetes test. Of which both are fine I dont have diabetes. My doctor didnt refer me to anyone else but then I didnt go back in. Another dr mentioned this to me as what it could be. I had to go back to the doctors for something else but I saw the original dr who did the tests, so I mentioned it to her. She said that she didnt think it could be that because my hands are freezing but they are also clammy (which is true). She said with raynaulds you dont get clammy hands. So my hands and feet are freezing ice cold and clammy. Does anyone with raynaulds find their hands clammy and cold? I really want to find an answer to this any advice would be great! or what specialist I may need to see!

Hi, I have been suffering with what my Doctor diagnosed as dermatitis on the palms of my hands. She has prescribed numerous creams, most of which are steriod based. I have been using these creams for over a year now but nothing is working and the condition is worsening. I always protect my hands with gloves when working. I will upload some pics if someone could tell me how me how to do it. The pain is getting really bad now, my skin is getting large cracks and the condition is spreading to my wrists. Please help me as I am very concerned about the fragile skin on my wrists suffering in the same way as my palms. Thank you Sharon.

mine is the same its driving me mad it gets worse when im hot

I have been suffering from the same thing for over 4 months now and I have tried everything from herbal to steroids tablet form and creams. I had got to the point where it was hard to carry on day to day things in life. Now I found tht it was just on my hands it started to spread to my wrist. You should look into the gloves u wear as this can make it worse even though it may not be the cause to the problem. As the heat and sweating makes it worse. I have been on treatment now called Toctino and this has a very high success rate and I'm half way through and it seems to be working already. If its that bad you need to mention u suggle with day to day things and u may b put on this! I hope this helps?

my friends since teenage aged had a hyperhidrosis. two years ago he had undergone surgery to remove both the sweat glands. before surgery, he had a problem on the palms sweat and feet, but after surgery the sweat on the palms have gone and come out a lot of sweat on his chest up to his feet. he had met with a surgeon to talk about the problem of sweat. but the surgeon told him that he could not do anything. This problem has caused my friends suffer from depression and often blame himselves.

I have got warts some big and some very small and they appear to be many in my palms and under the feet. The problem started back in 1998, and I hoped they will disappear on their own but unfortunately they even multiplied over the years. I have seen my doctor and been referred to a dermatologist, but nothing really helped. I was prescribed tablets, creams but they did not help. I was referred to wart specialist but little was done to try to help me as he only scrub them off, but in few days they grow back again. My hands and feet got lumps due to the warts, at times I have to cut them off using a razor blade, and I can only cut the big ones leaving the small one that I have to scrub every week. My skin has become very hard and rough. I recently found out that my 13 year old daughter she's developing the same problem. She has got them in her hand palms as well as under her feet, even though they are small but they appear to be many. Please could you kindly help.

I'm allergic to soaps. I've tried hypo-allergenic ones, unscented, etc. Nothing seems to work. I get a rash daily after showers, and the skin on my palms peels most days. Is there anything I can do to lessen the symptoms?

I have a similar problem but I can use Dove soap but only on my body and not my face. I'm a student nurse and have been told by a pharmacist and tissue viability nurse that creams such as aquaous cream or cetraben can be used to wash yourself. I have been prescribed cetraben and find that its a very good moisturiser. Best suggestion I can give you is to speak to your doctor or practice nurse as they can give you the best advice and treatment. Hope this has helped :)

If you're allergic to all but Dove, you're probably allergic to the additives (perfumes most likely). I'm allergic to dove and even hypo-allergetic as mentioned. Unfortunately, the creams tend to be really expensive.

My 7 yr old has just started having weird parasomnia episodes which seemed to coincide with a vomiting bug that lasted 19 hrs. We runs around grabbing my hand and shakes saying don't run mummy his eyes wide awake and shaking his arms in distress. His head is usually wet and clammy and he had no recollection in the morning. He has historically been a very twitchy sleeper and often had a wet clammy head in the night but this extreme behaviour is totally new Can anyone advise any help?

Hi. I'm 17 and from Singapore. I've had sweaty palms ever since I was a kid, and I think that mine's probably in the genes because my dad had sweaty palms too. Also, my hands tend to be really warm to the touch, like my mom. My elder brother who's 19 also faces the same problem. We also have sweaty feet. Sometimes, me sweaty feet and palms can bring me so much embarrassment. For example, when I shake hands with people, they would ask if I have sweaty palms. And when my feet starts to sweat, it would sometimes be so serious that I leave "footsteps" on the ground. It also causes my shoes to smell even though I always wear socks. I really hope that I can live without being worried about things falling off from my hands and not leaving behind "footsteps" when I walk barefooted.

when i was 16 i suffered from sweaty palms and armpits.I was told to use driclor by my GP which made my palms and armpit sting.I used the driclor until i was 17 then stopped using it. I put up with the constant sweating until i went on holiday with my friends and i dropped glasses on the ground because my palms where so wet. I spoke to my GP and told him that i was so unhappy with the way i was. He then told me about an operation to stop the sweating. I had this when i was 18. i am now 28 and have no problems only the downside is when i have certain foods that contain vinegar i sweat a little this is normal as the sweat has to come out of somwhere which is through my forehead. it's the best thing i had done.

Just like yourself, i had always suffered from sweating on the palms. It became an increasing problem when i went to high school, so i went to my doctor who referred me to a dermatologist. I went through Iontophoresis treatment which wasnt successful and i found it quite painful. Eventually, after trying various gels and creams i was told i could get the operation. In december i had the operation for the right hand, all went well so in january i had the operation for the left hand. A few days after the surgery, my left hand felt clammy, but i phoned the surgeon and he informed me that this could happen but it would soon dry up, and the next day my hand was dry. So i am really pleased with the results and my advise would be to not give up trying to get the right treatment for you. If one treatment fails, theres other treatments out there, dont suffer. My confidence has increased and i can now do a lot more things without worrying about sweating!

I've had eczema from around the age of 17 till now age 23 but i don't have it all over my body, it's only on the palms of my hands. The doctor has said this condition looks like it should be on the feet, and it's very rare to have it on my palms. The skin on my hands are very thin and looks like it belongs to a very old lady..is there anything that can be done?

These were the symptoms i had previously and now i have severe ecxema so i suggest you treat it as soon as possible. Go to the doctors and explain and ask for an ointment, i use epederm which i put on my hands and sometimes feet on a night and wear cotton gloves and socks to keep it on. also keep them mosturised throughout the day and do not pop the blisters as it makes them worse (i know its not very nice having to leave them as they are uncomfortable). Also if it gets worse, start to take photos to show how it has changed to prove it needs seeing to and that it is not getting better. hope this helps as im still trying to find cures for myself too. Read the comments above about apple cider vinegar also as this could help!

so true..i have sweaty palms and feet but didnt see it a big problem and lived with it in a friendly way.my school friends were ok with it and my childhood friends used to avoid using towels just to have same wet palms like me....u r correct the attitude towards the thing is what could make it a problem or not

Hi Heather! I have sweaty palms but haven't been diagnosed with anything yet. I feel your pain about holding a pen in exams. My palms tend to sweat when I'm hot and nervous and in exams I end up smudging the ink of my own work on tests which is really embarassing. I just thought it might make you feel better to know that you are not the only teen out there with that problem. :D

I've been suffering from palmar hyperhidrosis since kindergarten, and it only got worse once I turned 12. For a long time I was told that it was caused by anxiety and nervousness - that I am bound to outgrow it- and it never occurred to any doctor that this might be a medical condition with lasting symptoms. I actually had to read up on it in books and online to find out what I had here. My sweaty palms are unbearable; above 76F (20 C) I reach a bursting point where I can no longer stay dry for even a second. Then the heat adds up, my hands are clammy; I have to hide it and be extremely cautious when touching objects, such as paper - not to mention what happens when I shake somebody's hand, hold my phone, a remote control or my bus ticket. Another question comes up: CAN YOU HIDE IT? Can you avoid getting askew looks, bantering remarks or jokes regarding this seemingly insignificant yet horrendous malfunction of sweat glands. How do you go on with it, can you or should you explain it to others? This condition is awful and should get no less attention than any other; nor should insurance companies be allowed to refuse to pay for medication or procedures that could help us.
