I have suffered with constipation for as long as I can remember and went to doctors after I felt lumps diagonally down from my belly button on left side of my stomach which has put me in pain a few times. I went to doctors and they said I had chronic constipation and put me on laxidos sometimes I have to take 2 or 3 before I get movement. I think I have a bigger problem than just constipation can anyone help?

Hi I am 28 years old man having problems with holding urine, constipation and erection. When I first come over to England I started having constipation,I tried different diets but that didn't help. My sexual live started to go down about 3 years after the constipation started. I can not get it up without being stimulated and whilst having sex I do not ejaculate and no orgasm. Now on the top of all that I can not hold the urine that happened about 6 years after the first symptom occurred "constipation". I wet the bed almost every night and pee a lot during the day around 7 to 10 times. I have had cytoscopy done but the doctor said that there is nothing wrong with my bladder. I have asked the doctor for MRI scan but he said that this is not necessary. I am just about to give up as nothing seem to be helping so I decided to come here looking for answer and help.

Hi, I'm 19 years old and have had problems with constipation and have a prolapse in my anus. I have had an endoscopy and my insides look normal and I can go to the toilet more often now. Months before my endoscopy I started to feel a really sore pressure pain in my lower stomach during sex. It still continues today and I am just wondering could it be related to my constipation problems, and if not what else can it be? Help would be much appreciated as I just want to go back to having a normal sex life. Thanks.

Hi, if this is still happening you should go back, I had the same problem which over time got worse, my doctor was the same so I went to a different one. Blood test was normal showing no sign of inflammation, but colonoscopy shown inflammatory bowel disease crohns colitis. As a healthy yoga teacher this came as a shock. Anyway it can be a sign of over things such as internal hemorrhoids or polyps but blood in stools isn't normal and should be checked out. Hope you get it sorted :-)

Hi, I think I recently suffered from constipation. I tried the dukan diet which is protein only for 5 days. After 4 days I went to pass a stool but was straining and nothing came pout. A few hours later I felt the need to go again, strained a fair bit and eventually managed to pass a motion. Later in the evening was so paranoid I had pushed out everything and had a prolapse I had to keep checking to see if anything had come out. I don't think it did but felt something that felt like a skin tag or something that wasn't supposed to be there. I have Crohn's disease, but have never had constipation before and am worried I strained to much and don't know what to do

I suffer from severe constipation sometimes it is weeks between trips to the loo and have been prescribed Senna, Lactulose, Axido, Micralax micro enemas, and Glycerol suppositories. None of them would get a shift on my bowel. I was given Picolax to help get things started It took overnight and most of the next day before it worked. (I have been told at the hospital I have to do this for 6 months then they will give me something he said would be very good for getting things to work) But my problem now is pushing so often my piles are almost always horribly painful. The only break from the pain I get is when I don't take laxatives for a few days and my piles go down. But the constipation starts again. I am in a vicious circle. HELP...... Tracey

Hi I am 17 years old and fully sexually active male. All of a sudden I seem to have brown semen and constipation. Iv been reading around on the internet and there seems to be several different things it could be. I had un protected sex a week ago with someone and then protected sex with someone else 5 days ago and my semen was fine then. I have been considerable dehydrated the last few days so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?. I masturbated 2 days ago and today and both times my semen was brown and very watery. It was only today I have experienced constipation. Hope you can help thanks!!

For approx 8 years now i have been having problems going to the toilet, in the last 2 years it has got a lot worse to the point where i do not go for nearly 3 weeks then for about a week i go about 3 times that week but never feel empty. My stomach bloats really bad when i am at my worse constipation level, i take laxatives daily and have changed my diet to hardly any solids, i have been admitted to hospital on 2 occassions in the last 2 years with severe constipation where they use enemas and laxatives until i eventually have a very watery stool then they send me home. No-one seems to be able to find the problem, i have had a barium meal and a gastroscopy that revealed nothing apart from a small hernia, im at my whits end and dont know what else to do.

Hi, I have an embarassing problem with my bowels. I used to have a bowel movement about once a day but this has increased over the past year and now I go about 4 times a day. Each time, it is really hard and difficult to pass. It pushes down on the arem in front of my anus so i need to press this skin in to get it to pass out the anus. I feel nauseous and tired almost all the time and sometimes i get a cramping feeling in my lower abdomen. I might have 3 constipated movements in a day and a hour later, have diarhaeoa. 4 times a day seems an awful lot to me and it's making me feel quite unwell. I have no energy and even after a motion, I have a kind of sick feeling in my stomach. I have haemeroids too but cannot treat them as i Can't control the constipation. I also can't take latitives or fibre supplements, as i can with from constipation to dairrhaea so quickly anyway that just send the problem to the other extreme. I am 20 years old and i'm not sure what to do SH

I am 65 and have suffered with constipation in one form or another most of my life. I now have either diarrhoea or constipation all the time and have mentioned it to my GP several times but to no avail. Now that both conditions have become very severe, I find that, not only do I bleed a little during the constipation phase but it sometimes feels like I have something hanging between the cheeks of my bottom. It has become very sore to wipe the area. I do take oxycodone twice a day for pain and therefore need a laxative therapy to 'keep me going'. without it (which I try to balance) I immediately become constipated. Other times I have diarrhoea. It is now beginning to get me down.

my 9yr old has sufferd with constipation since he was born,he only goes once a month and is also sick with it,he takes movacole but does not help much.is there anything wrong with him other than constipation.

I too have suffered with constipation for the last 4 years. I am 22 years old now and also lived my life taking laxatives and suppositories. My constipation got so bad i ended up with a prolapsed bowel. I had a operation August 2010 and my symptoms have improved significantly. The operation improved the prolapse, however the one thing that really has improved my constipation is drinking 3 litres of water a day. Its the one thing my surgeon drilled in to me and i can honestly say i feel great compared to how i used to feel. I do still suffer with constipation but drinking lots of water has changed the way i live my life. If you can try and drink 3 litres a day i think it will help your symptoms.....dont worry you will get used to it! Also try eat a big bowl of fruit a day and have some veg too. Hope this helps you. :)

I have been suffering with constipation for nine years now,. I have had colonoscopys that results were all clear. I suffer big time with piles and most of all that distresses me is the swellen of my stomach. . for example can wake up in the morning size 12 and by the time tea time over size 14 would not fit me. Affecting my everyday life. Cannot make plans for anything as its like if im anxious the cramps in my stomach comes and im left with pain of wind accompanied by either constipation or diahorea. . most of the time constipation with only been able to go to the toilet with bowel movement maybe 3 times a week. Would try anything at this stage just to feel normal again and to get my life back.

ask your doctor fibrogel or even mebeverin those helped me a lot. You might want to also try and find out what causes your constipation by having a food diary. Might seem stupid but it helped me a lot in finding out why i was constipated. however, if your IBS is unstable meaning that it changes from constipation to diarrhoea and changes what sets it off than you my friend are like me, helpless for life. Sorry. x

Hi, I have real trouble with constipation since given birth to my second child 4 years ago, i take laxatives daily so that i can go. Will these cause long term damage? I also have an ache in my right side constantly, to the point i cannot sleep on my right side - i am associating it with constipation - would this be a reasonable guess? Thanks

My daughter is 6yrs old and has had constipation since she was a few months old, she is in extreme pain and hasn't been to the toilet ever she can weeks without going so has to have a nappy on because he poo becomes more like diarrhea. She has been to the doctors and the hospital a number of times and they just give her laxatives and senokot which doesn't work. I don't no what to do anymore for her as no one will help her with this problem i feel that there is something more going on than just plain old childhood constipation.

I am 16 have been having constipation for a while now. sometimes the stools build up and it is very painful to pass them. i try to go to the toilet before this happens, but nothing comes out, even if i strain. as well as this i have been having to pee a lot. As a result of the constipation which i have been having for about 5 weeks, i have upped my fibre (eat loads of fruit) and water intake. I drink about 5 glasses of water a day, but it seems to go straight to my bladder. This morning has been the worst, i had to go four times and its not even 11.00am yet! Please help, how do i get rid of this?

Hey guys... Mainly girls (no offense) I got diagnosed with what docs thought was ibs after years of constipation. It was only recently that due to having fertility treatment, my fertility consultant did a diagnostic laporoscopy, to check my tubes etc... Turns out i had endometriosis. And the endo had grown around my bowel causing constipation... Who'd have thought it! Endo pains can be very similar to ibs pains/ constipation pains. I too never felt the urge to go, until maybe 10-15 days after the previous bowel movement, i too also look pregnant, but due to us going through fertility treatment, kinda rips me in two when i get asked " how far along are you" Might be worth gettin checked for those of you who are still menstrual (spelling)
