I have heard that getting on your knees in the fetal position will help your uterus to fall forward (temporarily of course) to take the pressure off and lessen the pain. Worth a try. I had a retroverted uterus (never had any children though) 1 week ago I had my uterus suspended and my tubes tied to prevent it from falling again. All the best luck to u!

I'm 18, I started my periods when I was 11, I always suffered extreme cramps and mood swings during my periods, often the cramps caused many sleepless nights and left me unable to move. I started taking the contraceptive pill about 2 years ago, this really helped with my periods, made the flow lighter, lessened the severity of my cramps and eased the mood swings, however, I decided to stop taking it about 6 months ago and haven't had a regular period until this month, the rest have been irregular and have only amounted to a small brown discharge. This first normal period is the heaviest I have ever had and the cramps and mood swings are back with a vengeance, much worse than I ever had before. Is this normal after taking the contraceptive pill for so long?

I'm 23 and my period has been irregular. When i just started puberty at 12, i'd have cramps 2 days before my period starts and these cramps lasts a day after my period ends. At 14, i realised that if i were to masterbate using my fingers (still a virgin), i wouldn't have menstrual cramps. This became a habit that i'll masterbate once a week (is this normal for women..?) But at the same time, my period became irregular. I thought it might be due to my diet (i either hav a single meal or two a day depending on how hungry i am, this was one way to reduce my heavy flows) and i began to bleed less. But almost 2 years ago, my period cycle changed again. at times, it'll stop for 2 months and i'd bleed at least 4weeks when it comes (in part, the amount i bleed won't even soak an entire regular pad). And during this period, when i masterbate, it'll only prolong my period. Due to this irregularity and lack of cramps, i wear liners everyday just to make sure i'm safe if my period decides to come.. Is it because of the small amount of daily mensural discharge that my period lasts so long or a combination of reasons...?

Hi I'm 15 and my periods seem normal. Sometimes ot absolutely fine and I don't get any cramps but other times the cramps are so intense that I physically can't move. Nothing helps, hot water bottles, pain killers, nothing seen to help. It disrupts my sleeping as I'm in so much pain. Is this normal? Is there any way at all that I could relieve the pain, even if its just a little?

Do I have IBS? For quite some time I have been suffering with painful stomach cramps and incredible bloating. I am 22 and a fitness fanatic so I do eat well and also train hard (running 6 miles 3 times a week, weight training 2 times a week and a restful swim). I thought my cramps were due to my intolerance with dairy, gluten, bananas and cinnamon, however even though I have stayed away I am still encountering the cramps. My cramps can be so painful that even after a few mouthfuls of food I will need to take all restricting clothes off and lay flat on the sofa. My bowel movements are varied, sometimes it can be all or nothing. Excessive Flatulence can be extremely embarassing too! The pains spread to my lower back and I often sleep with a hot water bottle. I have been so down and stressed, mainly from work, but also from feeling so uncomfortable and from looking 4months pregnant all the time! Lately I've been extremely tired and having constant headaches and dizziness.. Not sure if this is anything to do with IBS? My grandma suffers from IBS, my grandad sadly passed from bowel cancer and my aunty passed from ovarian cancer. Unfortunately I have not registered to the doctors where I have moved to as they have no space and my doctors at home find it difficult to fit me in (taking into account the 3hour drive). Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you Daisy

Hi, This sounds exactly like me! The Dr said I have ibs, unfortunately everytime I go to see them about it I'm actually feeling ok! :( I was given peppermint oil tablets but stopped taking them as they didn't seem to make any difference. Exercise helps me, but after running I am really bloated and uncomfortable, embarrassing! And stress makes things worse too, so trying best to be mindful of this. Also I try to avoid the food which effect like bread, milk, fizzy drinks, apples etc Hoping you find a way to manage, try and see a Dr when you can :)

Hi, I have the same problem when I was single , it is lots of worry , I went to my gp , they prescribe me the harmone tablets which help me get back to regular my period . It not gonna harm you and do lots of exercise .now am married and even had a child , so do consult your gp .As him to give you tablet , which you have to take just 5 days before you due to your period .sorry for my poor explanation but will help you lots , was in same situation like you ...

I'm a 22 year-old male and I was recently told I have IBS and as a result have been switching aspects of my diet - I have been trying to eat healthily while exercising regularly. So I have switched to lactose-free milk and soya protein and have buscopan for any cramps. However I notice more recently that I'm not suffering from the cramps as often and instead can be quite bloated and windy! I notice that despite being slim everywhere else my abdomen can often make it look like I'm pregnant (I'm a fella btw!), I feel as though this may be a combination of bloating and perhaps excess Visceral fat. I don't drink much alcohol (a few glasses of wine a week) and I exercise regularly (at the moment 3-5 days a week), mainly cycling and weights. Is there anything else I could be doing which may help me?

Hey there. You sound like me and I lost neary 10 stonne. Well I too was diagnosed with PCOS and at 19 I weighed in at 20 stonne. My first efforts at loosing weight left me no closer, and now on reflection I can say that I just wasnt doing enough. However my weight did stop growing, perhaps you are doing enough to maintain your weight right now?I started to do swapsies! I never went on a diet at all, You need to change what you eat for life not just for a short period of time. I now weigh just over 10 stonne and I am 5ft 8-9, I am dress size 10 too and have been now for nearly 2 years, I went from a dress size 24. It took me a long time and I have extra skin on my legs and belly (quite a lot) but I am a lot healthier. Swapsies is small but lifelong changes you can make, e.g. oven baked instead of fried, sweetners instead of sugar, wotsits instead of mccoys. swap full fat full sugar for low fat low salt options and although it will take longer you will see results! as some people just eat too little when they diet you feel like your punishing yourself and that wont help your current low mood.Calorie count your intake for one week I bet its more than you realise,,,, my fella did it and he couldnt believe just how much he was eating. We each compared our version of a 'portion' of different foods and his was often double what mine was, that may be where you dont realise how much your eating... im not assuming at all though just trying to think what may be happening. For example his bowl of cereal was twice the size of mine and he didnt think that nearly half a bag of pasta was too much. Also work out dvds helped me a lot cuz i could fit it in around my son and i didnt have to motivate myself to go out and look half decent! and I started chinese kick boxing and karate. learning a skill and art form like that is less boring than the gym. do you get all hot and bothered during your exercise? if not perhaps you need to push yourself a little more, swimming was something i loved doing but because i didnt find I was pushing myself hard it wasnt having a hugh effect on my weigh loss at first, try and pick up the pace when during exercise maybe. My sister lost 6 stonne with slimming world but once she met her target she started eating her usual way again and went right back up to her starting weight.. infact an extra stonne on top too!).. thats why changes you can manage for your whole life are better rather than short term.Dont cut anything out either let yourself have a small treat, I opt for low cal options or have just a few squares of chocolate so you can feel proud that you were able to have your treat but stop and were not tempted by the whole bar.. a big one for me was having a solero ice cream instead of a magnum almond! Do you drink much alcohol? I couldnt believe it when i found out how many calories were in a bacardi and non-diet coke... shocking. I know contraceptives can cause or make you feel bloated too, I often feel my stomach reflects the size I was when I was 3/4 months pregnant which can sometimes make me feel like saying stuff it and eat a lot or pig out, just remind yourself at certain times of the month you will be bloated or feel sluggish. I found the contraceptive coil (IUD) was better for me as there is a lot less of the hormone (because it is direct to the area needed) and so feel less bloated or head aches than when i took the pill but im not sure this would be an option you would consider. I obviously dont know you at all but it does sound like my case when I was bigger. I first didnt loose any weight but a very blunt and direct message from a nurse made me realise just how little change I had made at first. sometimes when you start going to the gym you may gain weight as your muscle mass grows, but I bet your loosing inches and just dont realise. At around 12 1/2 stonne i got stuck for a while my weight didnt budge for a good few months but i went down at least a dress size! I found success in never letting myself go hungry so I dont over eat in one sitting, so eat little and often. lots of water. get a mantra! Whenever i felt like i could just give up i used to say to myself ' Pull yourself together woman you jumped out of a plane you can do this!' Im sorry if this was too long and no help! but dont give up .. the very fact that you are trying and dont want to let it go further shows you have character and capacity to do it! good luck

I am 15 years old. I Have had ibs for the past year which was brought on by stress, i was given mebervarine tablets which really help with the stomach cramps and excess wind. Or Buscopan cramps for the stomach cramps. I also found that Kalms tablets calm my stress down which then prevents my ibs from flaring up. You could take imodium if you suffer from loose stools. Also ask your school for a toilet pass as then you can go during lessons without others waiting around for you.

Iv been having stomach cramps for the past 3-4 months now and I'm worried I could have sti. Been having smelly discharge and having to wear panty liners quite a lot. The cramps only comes once a month and last approx 10 min. What could be causing this?

Kia Ora from New Zealand, Don't worry. It is normal. Over time, your period will become more regular. I have a family member that has been irregular all her life. The cramps probably mean that it is on it's way. Just hope that you don't get severe cramps where you have to spend all day in bed and in tears. :( You have nothing to worry about. Just keep an eye on it and maybe record when it starts and when it finishes.

There really is no way to fully stop the pain from your cramps. You can try ice or a heating pad, but there is no way to stop the cramps, only to ease them.

I had my son which will be five weeks on tuesday and last tuesday i had unproteced sex and then had cramps and pink discharge on friday and stil have the cramps today i havnt got my period yet could this be why because my period is coming or could i be pregnant? Thank you

I had the exact same problem. Agonising cramps and watery, mucus diarrhoea. Even now a week later, I still get some cramping after eating, and soft (but not full-blown diarrhoea) stools. I thought it was a virus, but now I'm not too sure - I didn't experience any vomitting, just the cramps, fever and diarrhoea. I'm not sure if I should still see a doctor... Any insight as to what might have caused this, would be helpful!

Hey there, I need some help/advice. My period lasts for about 9-10 days. Is this normal..? Should I see a doctor? Every month, I bleed so much and my cramps are just terrible. For example, whenever I get cramps, it hurts when I walk, sit down, or basically do anything. (If this helps, I got my first period when I was 9 or 10. I'm 15 now) Plus, I always use the super absorbent tampons, but I have to change my tampon about every hour and a half. I feel like that's not normal. Someone please help. Thanks.

My period is about 7-8 days so 9 days should be fine some of my friends get really heavy periods and there's not much they can do about it I know it's awful but if your period is safe then there's not much you can do. It wouldn't hurt to go see a doctor though and maybe get something for your cramps. Sorry if this isn't much help

You should probably visit your doctor, who would most likely prescribe a low dosage of Birth Control, which helps regulate menstrual cycles.

I've got the exact same problem but it's been from the very first day 3 years ago every time I get it and I was diagnosed with fibroids and that's what was causing it usually u get an operation to remove them but as I'm only 13 I'm to young and have to wait untill I'm 16 and severe cramps can be caused by heavy blood loss or irregularly placed hormones but go see your local GP about it don't freak yourself out over it exercise helps with the cramps it may hurt for about the first 5-10 minutes but it will help !xoxoxoxo hope this helped bunny xo

I'm 15, I started my periods when I was about 10-11 and my periods have never been regular, i may occasionally get two months in a row where the dates are only a few days apart but then the next month it comes very early or very late, once I even got two in the same month. I never get severe cramps or mood changes, i've been told this was lucky - but On one website a girl said she never got cramps when she was younger but as she grew older they became unbearable, is this common or normal?

Hey. I started my period on friday (28th Feb 2015) without any pain or cramps as always for me and whenever I get my period it is always really heavy with blood clots and I go through about 4 pads a day as it soaks really fast and sometimes it leaks into my underwear and bedding. I usually get bad cramps during my period but none when it actually starts. I'm 15 and too scared to ask my parents to come to the doctor with me or go to the doctor on my own for fear of judgement. I really need help as this issue is highly distressing for me. Any suggestions???

Hello I think that what you describe is pretty normal, esp if going through 4 pads a day. That's not a huge amount at all. Blood clots are also normal and as for leaking, perhaps try and change the pads more often, may help stop accidents. Cramping is also normal and may help to take some mild painkillers, such as para's. Cramping during your period is the spasms you feel because your uterus contracts to get rid of the lining each month. If you get cramping so bad that you are doubled over, it stops you living your life, or feeling sick, then that's not normal and you probably need to get some help. Please, never be embarrassed or think folk will judge you, it's all natural and nobody will think less of you if you ask for help. Doctors know it's just nature, and your parents will love and want to support you - they would probably be upset to see you in pain or scared. Try and talk to them, at least your mum. I bet they will help!

you might have a urinary tract infection my symptoms were similar to you and I'm 17 I also never had any problems with my bladder either it was super weird but my doctor told me that's what it was and gave me antibiotics that I had to take everyday for about three weeks

I was diagnosed with IBS a year ago after I starting having stomache problems but my symptoms are different so I'm not sure. I kept a food diary and there is no trigger or pattern sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't regardless of what I eat. My tummy swells and I suffer from random stomache cramps so bad I can't stand up straight, I sweat and have even passed out at home on my own the pain is so bad. My gp sent me for loads of tests but they all came back clear everything from sti to celiacs so they said it was IBS and I've been on 30mg a day of Amitriptyline since. The cramps can also start after orgasm or when passing a motion. Does this still sound like IBS??

When you have IBS you're blood will still come back normal, I'm 21 now & I have has IBS since I was 18, mine was caused by eating medium rear red meat, if it had the tiniest bit if blood in it i am on the toilet is immense pain for a good half an hour, but recently I have been suffering with it without eating red meat, but I suffer with panic attacks and anxiety which was actually caused by IBS, that's why I've been suffering lately. If you suffer with constipation then you need to start eating foods that are insoluble, if you get loose stools then you need to eat soluble foods, I have found eating soluble foods has helped me a lot, just search it up and you will get a list of foods you can and can't eat, I hope this helps you as I know how awful it is to be an IBS sufferer
