    Squint

When the eyes are misaligned and do not look in the same direction, causing one eye to turn inwards, outwards or sometimes upwards, while the other eye looks forward. Read more →

For the last four years ive had a white gooey stringy substance coming out of my eyes and my eyes are always bloodshot and sometimes swollen. Ive been to a doctor about it and she said she didnt know what it was so she pretty much told me to go away. But recently the problem has been getting worse. I was on holiday and around the 7th day my eyes started producing this substance, and my eyes became extremly irratated. I tried to use my finger to remove the gooey from my eyes but when I got it out of one eye more would be in the other, my eyes became completely red and the pain was unbearable and I was crying. Then my friend told me that a girl had been on this show with similar symptoms, but I cant find anyrthing about it on here. Im really worried incase I really damage my eyes im quite scared. Im going to the doctors as soon as possible to see if they will help me, but does anyone else have any idea what it could be? Please help!

Hi Im not sure if anyone has answered this but you should go to your gp and if they ignore you then go to another one because it may be nothing but at the same time it could be something. As there are many problems that can occur with one's eye's its best to follow it up. Not worth going blind now is it!

I'm 14 (so I'm guessing its a bit of an unusual age to get very watery eyes) but my eyes water with the slightest of wind, sunlight, when I lie on my side and even when applying moisturiser or face make up. But I think there's something wrong with my eyes, the shape of them are perfectly normal but I seem to have just a pink/red gap between my actual eyeball and the outer edge of my eye, like the opposite side to my tear duct, could this be why my eyes are so watery, if so is there anything I can do about it?

Hi!! I don't know you and I don't know what's wrong either but I'm fourteen and I have the exact same thing!! I don't know anyone else who has it and its killing me because there's nothing online about it. Your not alone, my eyes water like that too.

I am also 14, and I have exactly the same problem, my eyes have been watering since about last year. my eyes water all the time in all conditions even inside, when I'm at school I usually just use tissue to wipe away the water but it gets so annoying and gets in the way. I've been to the doctors and they have me eye drops that didnt help at all, they said it was because I wear make up but they water even when I don't. I went to the opticians and he told me that I don't blink all the way, I was very surprised as I thought I did, and I think I still do now, I hope it's just a thing that will pass over time.

I have always had watery eyes, I'm 17 now and still do.... They mainly water when; I look at other eyes, think about eyes, confrontation with people and just randomly sometimes :( Why???

Hi im 39 years of age i have bagus under my eyes there always puffy looking and would like to know if there is anyway i could get rid of them or even reduce them thanks

Hi, I recently had squint surgery done and I've noticed that my eye only looked straight on the day the surgery was done. Every time after that, especially after I've been on the computer for a while and straining my eyes, I notice my squint is still very obvious. But the doctor says she is quite happy with my alignment. Is it possible that somehow i am the only one who sees my eyes as being unaligned when I look in the mirror? I've also been taking pictures regularly and occasionally, my eyes look perfectly aligned and on other occasions,it looks horrible. Is it common for the eyes to drift back to its original position while its healing? Btw, It's almost a month since I had my surgery done.

I caught a virus in my eyes about eight years ago and was left with no tears at all. I have had my tear ducts sealed shut. I use hypromelose drops which help a little and was prescribed Viscotears which I find too sticky. Has there been any developments in this area with regards to a cure? My eyes produce a white substance which is very embarassing and also my eyes are very uncomfortable all the time as they are dry. Have you any ideas or should I go back again to my doctors who don't seem to be able to help. Thank you.

I went to the hospital yesterday for a 2nd eye clinic appointment and because I had my eyes open they said it was just dry eyes. But on leaving the clinic my eyes clamped shut as I was going back to the car. I feel really depressed about this and feel fobbed off by the doctors. My question is this how can I get a diagnosis when they dont see me when I am at home and out of the house. Can I go private.

This the crux of the matter for those sufferers who do not present with the symptoms when visiting the doctor - because most of the triggers for BEB are situations like walking with lots of people around, reading, watching TV and particularly driving. The best solution is to get a friend or family member to video you driving using their mobile phone, and take this evidence ( of your eyelids closing) with you to the medic. He should then refer you to a Neurologist who will prescribe Botox injections if suitable. My son did this for me; I showed the consultant the video and he stated me on the injections straight away. They do help. Good luck.

It took me four years I figured it out on my on, told my reg. doctor, then I started going to eye clinic and just had my third Botox injections, I see a bit of change, but I now use two eye drop twice day that helps a lot, but it can't get in sun are my eyes shut tight, even with dark glasses, but I feel better knowing what it is and i will always have it, I'm 65 yrs old so I'm trying to be creative with hats double sunglasses. Best of luck, call all the eye doctors see if they have patients with this deseise . Hope I've been some help

I have constantly watery eyes causing blured vision, difficulty when driving and reading from my computer at work. My eyes are always blood shot and skin around them is dry and sore from the tears. Tried to rule out allergy myself, I have been to the doctors, opticians eventually the hospital and discharged with "dry eyes" after trying all sorts of drops. Saw my optician who was shocked they were no better yesterday but I was honest that I've pretty much gave up! I'm only 23! Emma

If you have tried all the drops, seen the Doc and the optician...and then to have the optician, in your words "shocked", I would be heading for the eye specialist end of story.. I am assuming the optician is the guy you go to to buy glasses and have eyes tested..?? There is another level of eye carers, they are specialist in their field.. Get Doc or optician, to give you a referral... I got rid of my watery eyes with systane, a eye drop from chemist, told to me by optometrist (optician), but you have said you have tried all types of drops....Dont play around with your eyes, get this looked at by a proper eye specialist, so don't give up Emma...

I have had dermatitis around my eyes and eye lid for te past 2 years.. It can get quite itchey and sometimes my eye lids swell and it is difficult for me to open my eyes. I wear contact lenses and have done for over ten years. Would the contact solution suddenly start irritating my eyes? I also wear make up but try to use natural products because of my sensitive eyes. I also try to use products on my skin that are not harsh like Simple. My GP gave a me a cream 2 years ago to help woh the dermatitis. It helps it go away for a few days, and then it flares up again. I am reluctant to go back to my GP as I feel he will just give me the same cream which only seems like a temporary measure. What can I do to help it go away?? Thanks, K

Hi Katie, Im also 31 and have had several squint correction operations, 2 when I was a child, 1 as a teenager and 1 just a month ago. My eyes have went every direction possible, inwards, outwards and one eye higher than the other. My last op fixed the eye which was higher but my other eye still wonders outwards. I totally empathise with everything you said. I too hate socialising. I have no self confidence and very low self esteem. Depression is another unwanted side effect of this condition too! My doc says I have to accept that my eyes will never ever work together. People tend not to mention my eyes to me, I think its because they dont know if I am aware my eyes arent level and dont want to draw attention to it. I secretly hope they dont mention it because it isnt that noticable, lol, kidding myself eh! It's a curse really this squinting thing!! But I suppose I have to be grateful because there are much worse conditions to suffer from. Still, maybe one day there will be a way of fixing squint prone eyes permanently! I will keep my fingers (and eyes) crossed! Laughing at myself has become my coping mechanisim, lol!

Hi I'm 29 years old and i was born with eye condition as explained below. I have a problem with both my eyes, when i'm look left my left eye is looking straight but my right one is looking at the direction that i'm aiming which is supposed to do,and it happends the same way looking right, and the right eye is looking straight as is supposed to look right not straight, and when i look up my eyes dont look at the same direction,i would sy crossed eye but softer version if you know what i mean.i have checked my eyes at opttition and they told me that nothing i can do just got to live with it, which i'm very embarased when looking left or right specially when i'm communicating side to side with people,my eye sight is very clear and good vision.so please can anybody help from this webside or suggest something i can do?? HI THERE,I,M REPLYING ABOUT OUR CONDITION BLEPHAROSPASM,AND TO ALL THE OTHER SUFFERS. I HAVE HAD THIS CONDITION FOR EXACTLY TWELVE MONTHS,I HAVE WRITTEN ON HERE ABOUT IT AT THE BEGINNING, NOW I AM DRIVING AGAIN AND DROVE TO MY BOTOX APPOINTMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME TWO WEEKS AGO, LUCKILY BOTOX HAS WORKED FOR ME, AND IT HAS GIVEN ME BACK MY LIFE,HOPEFULLY IT WILL KEEP ON WORKING,WE WILL HAVE TO SEE.I LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL AND TRY TO TALK AND LAUGH ABOUT IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AS IT IS HARDLY HEARD OF I FIND, I ASKED AT MY LOCAL HOSPITAL WHY THERE ARE NO BOOKLETS OR NO FLYERS ABOUT OUR CONDITION AND THE LADY SAID THAT AS THE CONDITION IS RARE THEY CANT REALLY AFFORD TO DO IT,MONEY I GUESS, PLEASE TRY AND STAY POSITIVE, I,M SURE THINGS WILL GET BETTER IN TIME AND THE MORE IT IS TALKED ABOUT THE MORE FUNDING THIS CONDITION MAY GET,AS FOR THE SIDE EFFECTS,WELL I WAS SO DESPERATE AND AFRAID,I NEVER GAVE OR GIVE THEM A THOUGHT AS BLINDNESS WAS TOO SCARY!I STILL HAVE LITTLE TICS NOW AND AGAIN, FROZEN EYES AND A DROOPY EYELID BUT AT LEAST I CAN KEEP MY EYES OPEN.

I've just recently been diagnosed with SS and find it increasingly frustrating that most places you look for information tend to place the emphasis on just the dry eyes and dry mouth. I experience neither of these, but instead have joint pain, really bad fatigue (I sleep 3-4 hours on an afternoon as well as 8-9 hours at night)yet i still feel i have no energy at all. I also have chest pain/breathing problems. It kinda makes me think when you tell people you have SS, are they thinking 'its just dry eyes or a dry mouth' when there's much more to it. I just started on Prednisolone short term while my Rheumy applies to put me on Rituximab. Fingers crossed!

i have cross eyes. I hate it everyone calls me crossed eyed alison at school. I am 14 and ever since i was 2 ive had it. It gets very bad when im concentrating or tired. I was ofered a operation on my eye when i was little but my mum refused as i was too young. I was happy when my mum said i could have it done at my age now but unforchantly as im diabetic i carnt have it done :( looks like i will have to live with it now.

same thing is happening with my eyes even if when fan runs on the slow mode still my eyes water a lot. I checked my eyes several times but doctor says i dont have eye problem its just pressure on the eye. but i feels bad that i have to put my hanky again and again on my eyes. please tell me the solution.

I had cosmetic surgery on my eyes last march, this had healed but i now have runny eyes this makes my eyes so sore and people think i am crying all the time which is embaresing and frustrating.Sometimes when i drive i cannot see properly as i have to constantly wiping my eyes.

Hi I had watery eyeas and when I was 7 years old I had an operation on my eyes I was told I had blocked tearducts so I had to have thin clear tubes put in both my eyes maybe you should get you eyes checked out. My eyes are great now they don't water as much as they used to, I used to get bullied in school because it looked like I was crying but now I don't :)) x

I can totally relate! I am 15 years old and have suffered with watering eyes for around 18 months. I use to love wearing eye liner and other eye make up and I can't wear any of it, I feel like it has ruined my life and do get quite depressed about it. My self confidence has fallen dramatically. Been to the doctors repeated times and they blame it on hayfever, yet my eyes water all year round! It is ridiculous. And definitely effects my school work, sometimes my eyes water so much I can't see or if not I'm distracted in lesson cos I'm constanstly wiping my eyes. In the winter I tend to get red marks all around my eyes and my eyes can swell up, it can be very painful. :( Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

hi iam 22 year old i have had two ops on my eyes and there still very squint i went to glasgow royal when i was 17 and they told me i use my two eyes as two eyes as where most peope use there two eyes as one and for that reason they told me if the did the op i would be left with double vision and they can only fix it by blinding me off in one eye which i thought was'nt worth it. i just want to know iam i the only person in the world that can't be fixed what is wrong with me can someone please email back and tell me if there is anything else i can do.

I see the same way as you, with 2 eyes separately rather than working together! I had 4 surgeries when I was younger and still have issues. Although I'm lucky and it's not really noticeable, my eyes still cross from time to time. I've also been wearing glasses since I was a baby. I can't imagine not wearing them. You are not the only 1! 😊😊😊

Hi It seems there is no medical cure to our disorder, but after bearing all the insults and comments I did some excercises and practices on my own and though now I can control my eyes to make them look normal in front of people its very much exhausting. Its been 4 yrs since I am doing this and though people dont remember me being a squint holding your eyes together and faking normality is too exhausting. but glad to see there are people like me, fighting similar battles of life :(.

I would strongly suggest a lid scrub. They sell lid scrubbing pads at places like Walmart and Walgreens. I used to and sometimes still get styes a lot. I'd get mucus in my eyes, stringy things, little zit like puss bubbles on my lids, they'd be dry or watery and itchy and red and bloodshot. What I did was, always wash my hands. In the morning after I wake up and at night before I go to sleep, I would wash my face, then my hands, and then I would splash water on my eyes, use a lid scrubber, close my eyes and scrub it, and then rinse it off and towel dab them. After a few months, my eyes felt better and they stopped hurting. To prevent infection- if your eyes burn, either microwave or semi-boil water til it's pretty warm. Soak a rag in the water, wring it out, then either lightly dab your eyes with it or lay you head back, close your eyes, and lay the cloth upon your eyes.

I'm 35 and find my watery eyes very frustrating. Mainly get it when laughing, I do a lot of laughing! Eyes are sometimes quite saw though I'm in front of the computer all day. Thinking back to school days I do remember my eyes looking very red, when I say eyes, the start of the lids where the hair folicals start. Would love to be able to do something to prevent this happening

Dave, my eyes sting from time to time, but mainly when my make up is on. but they are constantly sore. i have bags underneath my eyes from where the constant tearing seems to gather etc. my eyes are usually so swollen and bloodshot. ive started to develop headaches, not sure if its when im concentrating mixed in with not being able to see properly or what... i have another app with a different consultant on dec 20th. if i find out anything different ill be sure to let you guys know. i hope your eyes improve for you, this is truly horrible. i know how you must feel.

hi ive been having watery eyes for a few weeks now. Started one morning my eyes were red and itchy (both eyes), i was told i had pink eye. two days later I went to the doctors they said it was pink eye so they gave me "erythromycin ophthalmic ointment." It went away about 5 to 6 days later but my eyes are still watering. Its been 4 weeks total. Every morning i wake up with some crust around my eye lids (not as much as before) but enough you can see and feel. Sometime people ask me if im high because my eyes are red. When they start to get itchy i rub them and they quickly get irritated swollen. I use eye drops everyday it helps a little, i just would like the watering to go away, what could this be? How can this go away?

I've been diagnosed with dry eyes and blepharitis in both eyes but one eye waters continually, the white of my eye is inflamed despite antibiotic ointment, I'm cleaning the eyelids twice a day and using refresher drops for the dry eyes but nothing seems to improve them, they're sore and uncomfortable and its been going on for 3 months now and Im desperate to get it back to normal.

i also have this condition and have to go to the hospital approx every 3 months and i am told the same thing every time i go and that is to keep up with the lid hygiene with baby shampoo and warm water, this never helps and nothing else seems to either, it is so depressing to be asked if i am tired because my eyes are red and bloodshot, i feel for everyone with this condition and i know there is no cure and treatment is usually cleaning the lids but it doesnt work for me.

i went to an eye specialist cause i had severe blepharitis and they gave me doxycycline pills for 3 months which seem to clear mione up ask you doc about gettin reffered to an eye specialist

Hi i'm 19 and I think I may be alergic to something like my family's rabbit but not sure. I've been staying round for about 6 weeks and about a month ago my eyes were itchy and started getting swolen on the eye lids and then dry skin under my eyes and now it's much worse and extremely painful and red round both my eyes, it stings constantly and i can't open my eyes properly because the skin is so raw and dry, i'm having to where sunglasses because how awful it looks. My lips are also dry and sore and itchy but not red or swolen, this also developed the same time as my eyes. I don't have a local doctor and am quite embarrased to show anyone, I was wondering what type of cream or medication I should use or what medical problem these symptoms may be describing. I'll be very greatful for your advise.

I am 19 and I use to have watery eyes now and then and thought nothing of it as I could still continue with my life. But for the past 6 months my eyes have constantly been watering that I have to carry a tissue with me at all times! People just think I'm always crying and it can be embarrassing. I feel like my vision is a bit blurred and my eyes are now a bit sticky. It's so annoying to have, does anyone have any solutions to help it for now?!

I have EXACTLY the same thing and the doctors can't seem to come up with any solution! I'm the same age and they watered randomly about once a year but this year they have not stopped for nearly 5 months now. I do have days when they don't and I forget and then bam! It's so frustrating and I've tried every drop and hayfever tablet, there are days when I can walk through gale force winds and nothing will happen and other days when I can be sat in a cool dry room and one will start, it's normally my left but the right one sometimes joins in, someone help please x

i am 24 years old, i have had a problem since i was 11 with my eyes watering all the time. and i have black bags round my eyes. i wish this would go away. it is so embarrassing when i am out and i need to wipe my eyes all the time. please help.

i have had a huge problem with my eye for over a year now. i have been given eye drops which sting my eyes and take allergy tablets but they do not work. my eyes often swell up one at a time and feel like they are itchy and burning. when they swell i seem to get clear stringy goo in the effected eye. i then have to try and get this goo out of my eye. this stops it from swelling. if i dont my eye will be swollen for afew hours. my eyes do not swell everyday but they seem to have that stringy goo in them all the time, therefore my eyes are constantly irritated. please someone help me and tell me what it could be. thankyou

The SAME thing happens to me too! Sorry. But Rinse it out with saltwater, dry it, and then apply aloe vera gel on the irritated parts. Magic!!!!
