Hello. I have a problem with my finger nails. Two finger nails of both hands when they get at the certain lenght start curving downwards, it does not look nice and I cannot enjoy having long nails. I've noticed when the nails are wet they are the same shape as others, nice shape. Is something wrong with my nails? Does it show any health problems?

My finger nails have gone from being strong, dull shine, slightly curved nails(when looking at finger tips with nails on top) to nails which are very soft and breakable, very shiny at the ends and curved so much that they look as though they have been pinched by pliers. My diet has not changed and there is nothing significant, as far as I can recall, that would cause this. . . .please help. Carla.

I used to bite my nails, now my tips grow way to early and there is only a tiny base for my nails. This seems silly but it means only half of what should be stuck to my finger is and that cause my nails to break alot, what should I do?

Its just where your nerves in your leg that need to get back to there usual function. When you had the hip replcement they to intfere with your nervus system and could cause them to have got damaged or reconfigure when the hip was replaced. But theres nothing to worry about really. Just keep an eye on the nails and they start to grow as normal again.

Hi, whenever I cut my toenails there is a cheesy smell that comes from the nails, only from both big nails though. There is no smell from the toe until I cut my nails. There is no discolouration although they do seem slightly brittle. I have tried athletes foot treatments (creams, powder, spray, gels etc etc) but it doesnt help! I have no ideas what it is, any suggestions?

That means, dear Clarabelle, that there is a fungus among us... Seriously though, you have onychomycosis: a fungal infection of the nail. The good news is, that it sounds like you're still in the 'early' stage of infection, so if you begin treatment now you have a better chance of clearing it up than most. Go see your doctor immediately to begin treatment. In the meantime, pick up some Tea Tree Oil or Google "OTC Nail fungus treatment" and head on down to your local drug store. No matter what, don't ignore a possible infection...It only gets worse!

I have a very thickened nail bed on both of my big toes, it's so hard that it actually feels a little like nail, but is still flesh coloured. Because of this, both nails have raised very considerably and now point upwards and sideways. I have seen different chiropodists for about 5 years, since the problem began after I developed blood blisters under my toenails as a result of a trauma to my toes. They have reduced the thickness of my nails, and so these are actually very thin now, but the nail bed remains very thick. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the thickness of nail bed? I have been told that I can have my nails removed, but I actually think the toes will look worse without nails, as the nail bed is very unsightly. Please help!!!

My fingernails have developed a 'green tinge' some darker than others. I wear false nails (have done for many years!)and am terified that they will come loose and put my horrible nails on show. I have had nail clippings tested by my GP and the result has come back negative for fungal infection. Please help - do I need topical application or tablets? Know I need to ditch the false nails but I can't bear the sight of my hands without them!

I have had psoriasis for about 8years - some on my skin but that clears quite well with the sun. My nails are bad with it and I have lost all of my finger nails on two occasions and they have just started to crumble and rot again. My two big toe nails are affected also - the worse thing is that there is a green pus like substance which comes from under the nails - mostly on my toe nails - I had both my big toe nails removed to try and stop this but it was unsuccessful - I had them redone about 5 weeks ago again - but already the 'pus' like substance is showing again. some of this comes from under the finger nails as well, my fingers around the base of my nail is constantly inflamed and when they are really painful I know there is a build up of this stuff and I have to release it. I have tried various medications including methotrexate but nothing has worked. I dont know anyone else with this pus stuff from their nails - anyone else have this problem or any ideas??

Hello, I have suffered since having children with very dry skin around my fingers mainly being the middle and index ones. They become very dry and painful, usually the nails lifting up on the side and can come to a point where infections (pus balls around the nails appear). It is has only affected my finger nails not my toe nails. I have been to a consultant and they have mentioned that it is psoriasis/dermatitus but all the creams I have used do not help and the throbbing can become quite painful. When I see the picture as above my nails have not discoloured like this. Can you please help. Many thanks

I have had psoriasis in my nails around 10 years now, i absolutely hate the look of it so for the last 7-8 years I've had acrylic nails on..... Since the first of January this year though i haven't had them on as the acrylic nails REALLY don't help as when i used to catch a nail the whole nail would tear off :-( What I have found that helps though is 'skin hair & nail' vitamins (boots own work really well) I'm just waiting for two nails to grow out now & all my nails will be clear. But what worries me is when my nails are psoriasis free I'll go straight back to acrylic nails ....... Vicious circle!!!!!! To the people that get down , you're not on your own & I totally get where ur coming from.

I have nail psoriasis for the past two years, its so painful and embarrasing. I wear nail paint every day to try and cover up how ugly my hands look like. There was a time I loved the look of nails but now I hate them. Is it ok to use dovobet gel and still keep my nails painted?

If it makes you feel any better removing the toe nails permanently is sometimes the better option. I only had partial removal of my big to nails, when I was younger due to ingrowing nails, but it left me with thick nails, which over the years have got worse,(and yellow, and ugly, and uncomfortable)so I'll be glad when mine are gone.

ive had problems with my big toe nails for a couple of years now, firstly they were ingrowing, then i had a bad case of overgranulated skin. now im left with nails upon nails. My big toe has upto 5-6 nails growing ontop of each other, it is becomming painful and doesnt seem to be stopping. what could it be? and what should i do. its very embarrassing and also my other foot is starting to do the same

Hi, I am 40 years old and have corns on both my feet, more on the right ones. I was told that when running the shoes I wore were my exact my fit, so when I ran there would be friction on my toe nails. For this reason I have corns on my toe nails and no longer have toe nails on some of my nails, on both feet. Can these be removed giving me back toe nails? Too embarrassed to wear sandals or flip flops, showing my feet. To change this will be a big weight off my shoulders!!

Hi i am 16 and have never had sex. (therefore no STIs) I have very smelly vaginal discharge, which changes throughout the month. Sometimes it is off-white and light and barely smelly, and sometimes it is really gooey and lots of it. It is almost translucent, and whiteish-yellow. It smells really really bad. and sometimes it is very yellowish-brown and crusty. it is also like i have dandruff down there. My vagina always smells and always has discharge round the edge. This is why i havn't had sex even though i really wanted to. I also have one vaginal lip bigger than the other. I have quite bad athletes foot and fungal infections in my toe-nails. I went to the doctor and had a sample of my toe-nails sent away. It came back negative for fungal infections. But still doesnt explain why my nails are greeny/yellow/brown, brittle, thick, crumbly, smelly and like cheese underneath. So could the fungal infection from my feet have spread to my vagina? I also get this cheesy smell down there, in my finger nails, and in my belly button. I feel so self concious. I have tried loads of anti-fungal sprays but they either don't work, or the smell comes back soon after using it. Sometimes when i laugh a little bit of pee comes out (but I know this is normal and to do with your pelvic floor) but sometimes a huge blob of sticky discharge comes out and it sits in my pants and it is very uncomfortable. I have to go to the toilet and take it out my pants as it is often heavy and wet. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have psoriasis on all of my nails, hands and feet and have had it for many years. My skin psoriasis started when I hit puberty, I am now 50. The nail psoriasis started about 15 years ago and like everyone else am so embarrassed about it. All of my friends are getting their nail extensions done so they all have perfect nails. They look at me as though I am a leper. I have a small amount of finger nails so I tried false nails to hide them. I couldn't live without my false nails now and sometimes people comment on how nice they are! I don't care about the strong super glue type glue I have to use as my nails could not look any worse than they do already without using the glue. I run an emery board over the top of my toe nails to even out the pits and ridges and then paint them in quite a dark colour, this does help to disguise the thickened nails quite a bit. Hope this gives hope to some of you ladies, even you guys can try to stick some clear false nails on and then trim them down.

Daz, I'm exactly the same and after seeing a specialist, I'm sorry to say that it probably is inverse psoriasis that you have. It doesn't hurt, just causes thickening of the nails and tends to affect and area where there is skin that is covered (under nails, under hair thus the dry scalp, between your legs may get sore in winter etc...). You may be one of th elucky ones that only has problems with your nails. I'm going to look at using the Betacap (not seen or used this) and Dovonex which I use regularly on the nails to see how that helps. Somebody mentioned that did help them clear it up...

ever since i was 7 i have had a problem with my nail i woke up 1 morning and the surface of my nails was ruff and the wer spooned shaped both finger nails and toe nails. i have been to the docters and had test and they cant find anything. ive had creams and medicines but nothing has seemed to cure it. i am now 17yrs old and its embarrising when i go out and people ask me about my nails. do u no if there is a cure

My problem with my fingernails started a year and a half ago, previously before I used to wear fake nails I had removed myself which was quite painful to say the least I noticed my 2 thumbnails started to change colour they became dark in colour at the sides of the nails. It then spread to my other nails causing all of them to change colour dramatically I seeked medical advice and treatment this didn't work I now resort to filing down my nails and painting my nails black so that no one notices how bad they are.I can send a picture of my nails if you can advice me of how to do so.. Thank you for your time

I've had skin psoriasis for 20 years. I did have it on my scalp but alphosyl shampoo cleared it over a period of a few months. I have it in my nails but have never found anything to clear it. They used to look hideous and did hurt. I had to have my two large toe nails removed as they became ingrown. I keep all my nails short and neatly filed. I use a nail brush to clean them regularly and wear nail polish on my toe nails to hide them. My nails have slowly improved but keeping them short and tidy is all I can suggest.

My vagina kind of gets very crusty and I don't like washing much (a personal problem we have been working on). I started my first period this time last month and it hasn't arrived yet and my vagina isn't really very crusty, what should I do? I'm 13 and don't want to tell my dad (single parent.)

Wash the outside parts daily with mild soap and warm water. It is very important to keep clean. Better to shower, and do that at there. You don't need to wash the inside, the body does this naturally. Sometimes your second period won't come right away like expected. It may not become regular right away. If your dad is a single parent, then you will need him to get you pads or tampons. There are directions, but if you need help, you can talk to him, he had a child and knows more about women than you may realize. If not, seek out a female you trust, a guidance counsellor, school nurse, social worker, even go to a clinic or doctor just to discuss what is normal. If you don't want to away what you're doing say, "I need to see a female doctor, to discuss feminine health"

My finger nails also come away from the beds and my nails curl upwards. They look terrible and i'm so embarrassed about them. I have some lovely rings but look awful on my fingers. I've tried using false nails but my own nails push them off when the start to curl up. Doc said the only cure is to keep cutting them as short as possible and have injections into the beds every few weeks. He also said it was very painful so don't know what to do..!

I have had nail fungal infection for many years only last year realised what it was just thought it was normal as my grandad had really hard nails. I always get ingrowing toe nails on my big toes which are the infected nails. Would like to know what people recommend. I've trtied covering it up with nail polish but doesn't help with the pain of ingrowing nails.

I have the same problem, my doctor has said that it could be putting them in water to much, mine are going white from the tip down and are lifting off the bed of my nail, I would like to know what this could be and what I can do to stop it.
