My 15 year old son has what we think is a hookworm under the skin on his butt - so therefore is trying to avoid going to a doctor. It looks dark and about 5cm long. I have started him on the medication but need to know what happens to the worm once it is dead - it's under the skin and not in the intestine so how can it get out? Hopefully someone can help with an answer please

That's not a worm! It sounds like an ingrown hair. He may need to have it removed by a doctor. Nothing to be embarrassed by. Get it out before it becomes infected and starts causing pain.

Hi, I also am having the same problem. My dog got the hookworm infection without me knowing. He had an accident on the floor and I went over there barefoot and came down with the infection. I too know it's under the skin in the rectum. I can literally feel them moving. I've taken two different sets of antibiotics and it only temporarily relieves the infection. I've been a germ freak since knowing this. Even to the point of cleaning everything in my house (AND I MEAN EVERYTHING, EVERY DAY... I'm on month two and still feel the symptoms)All I can recommend is washing everything he touches every day. (sheets, pillows, towels, etc). I've even gone as far as buying a high powered high heat steamer and take that around to every square inch in the house. I've since also made sure my dogs are groom once a week (washing, hair grooming, etc) I've also made sure to take them out at least 4 times a day making sure I have high quality dog bags to pick up their poop. I'm at my wits end... I don't get to do anything any more. I see this is a rather old post... have you found any answers?

I am a 19 year old male and I have suffered from eczema all of my life but recently it's become unbearable! (E.g exteremely red, dry, skin cracking, weeping) I find I'm waking up during the night scratching my skin. Also it can hurt to move my joints and its cracking my skin. I have dead skin in my clothes and bed by the end of the day/night. I visit my GP weekly but all she gives me is different creams to moisturise and shower in. Please can someone help as its never been like this before and I find it embarrasing! PLEASE HELP!?!?!?!

I've been advised to try reflexology for a number of problems (eczema, asthma, anxiety and an old shoulder problem). Have you considered looking into it (been told they usual charge about £30 per session). I've had eczema all my life too (I'm 40 now), so quite interested to see how it works for me!

I've got the same thing it started on my legs but its all over my body now its a mess it gets dead sore but im going seeing a dermatologist to see if there's anything that can help it I've used over 12 different creams and they don't work they've even gave me extra strong steroid ointment that doesn't work, seems like there's no luck to getting rid of it doublebase helps ease the pain

since i was young my neck and underarms have looked dirty i wash and wash till im red and soar and its making me very self concoius and isolated is this a pigmentation problem or an excess or dead skin as when i scratch skin flakes appear ?

Hi, I'm a 24 year old male and I have a very irritating growth directly under my nose. I had a very small, neglible spot growing but I cut it slightly whilst shaving. Since then (around 6months) I have had a hard skin growth like a skin tag although the skin looks dry and dead and is very hard and not 'stretchy' like skin tags can be. Because of where it is, stubble grows inside/through it which causes it to grow strangely in columns and also means I can not avoid it when shaving. It bleeds very easy and can be painful. Occasionally I will tweeze the hairs from between the 'columns' of skin growth which allows me to pull them off (painful & bleeds quickly) and it looks fine again but it continues to grow back. I've never seen anything like it and I am in the process of applying for new jobs - it is very embarrassing during interviews as thanks to the location it can look something from the nose... Help!

I am 43 now but have had large labia since I can remember! For me it became a problem when I saw my friend's labia and I thought "oh my God" as mine looked nothing like theirs.. I pretended I was like them too and said nothing.Just felt like a deformed freak for yrs !! I did have relationships and just hoped it would go unnoticed during sex as I would never have a man touch me "down there".I would not even walk around naked incase they saw my 'very visible lips' so it did inhibit me in many ways.I can only say to any woman reading this is when you see yourself and think.."I hate it and every other girl has a pretty cute vagina except me" remember that you aint the only one thinking that.. Plenty of girls/ women have large/long/ none symmetrical lips and so it is! It is not a deformity and if your fella sees it as strange then he is clearly very inexperienced when it comes to women's 'parts?'.If they comment on how your lips look tell them they are shallow and you can do better.

have you gone to a doctor?

this is probably normal. all your skin sloughs off after the cells die, new ones replace them from underneath. you usually don't notice it happening because the skin cells are so small. a nipple though secretes a tiny bit of lubricant out of it and can make the dead skin cells stick together sometimes. if you are worried by all means SEE A DOCTOR, but in the mean time don't panic.

I am 19 and I keep finding white, probably dead, skin at the very tips of my nibbles, and my nibbles are sometimes indented with the dead/white skin there, I have been slightly worried 'is this normal' ? Thinking its dead skin i have removed the white/dead bits and this has made it quite painful, so I don't do that but the dead/white skin fragments are still bothering me, i don't know whats going on !?

I had severe spots for a while and they went away and came back again, they were starting to go away recently and dead skin was left behind, so I used exfoliating gloves and a facewash and now there's this red scar on my face and it looks like a cut, it looks really awful. I have used so many products and creams before and it just seems so hopeless now. I was using teatree oil and it was leaving my face looking very red and dried it up a lot!!(leaving the dead skin behind) Anyone got any advice for this cut ( I have a few actually) But will they heal like when you fall and cut yourself or will this need treatment?

A few years ago when i was about 9 i had a verruca develop just below my big toe on my right foot. As time went on nothing happened to it so my mum started trying bazooka verruca. I think this is what led to layers of dead skin forming over it. The dead skin piled high up until i had a great big lump of skin there. It was painful to walk at times but luckily most of the time i felt no pain. I do remember it being hard to put my socks on and it being quite itchy a lot. At the time i was still in primary school and went swimming every week with school. It was embarrassing to have all my friends see the unsightly right foot. September the 14th 2004. I believe that was the date i finally ridded my foot of the verruca. The dead skin caught against something and lifted a little bit, allowing me to pick it off. This might have been slightly unwise but after a good while i managed to yank it off, leaving a tender crater in my foot. This crater healed over the coming month or so and looking at my foot now you would never know :)

where its itching at around 5 am or similar is where the scabies still are after doctors cream I felt them still in my hands so i used tea tree oil coconut oil and that definitely stopped the itching I am not sure they are dead but i feel they are .There will still be my body reacting to the dead mites/eggs/ faeces under the skin

Hi. I got my lip pierced three days ago. I already have one on the other side that i have had for three years and it healed fine. This time I believe a blood vessel was hit and I've been having problems with it bleeding. Mostly at night when I'm sleeping. I read a lot of things online about excessive bleeding and I'm not to worried. The question i have is now there's a greyish string of something, dead skin i'm assuming, that came from the hole. I put pressure on it while it was bleeding so i think that's why it came out. I just want to know if it's a sign of infection or just dead skin? Also should i cute it off? Thank you. Also it has a ring not a stud in it. And I brush my teeth twice a day and use sea salt rinse everytime I eat or smoke.

I have had LP for 5 years now. On my wrists and ankles, it was really severe for a long time and used dead sea salt to soak in and a dead sea salt srub to use on the itchy skin. It helps, I believe that LP is linked to diet, I am now dairy, sugar and gluten free, which is very hard, but we have to try to help ourselves as the Medical experts are clueless.

G'day Doctors. I have pustular psoriasis on the soles of both of my feet. Over the years I think I must have tried it all, herbal/natural therapies to the good ol' knock it dead (for a short time) cortisone tablets. The trouble with those is that as soon as you stop, it just comes back quite ferociously. Im currently using Dead Sea minerals with some success - but I just want it gone. What would you suggest? I can sent photographs as i have been tracking my progress for the Dead Sea salt people here in Australia.

I have suffered from skin psoriasis, nail psoriasis and scalp psoriasis for around 8 years since age of 30. I think it was triggered by stress but is also hereditary as my mum has it. I find spending time in the sun/sea gets rid of it but obviously can't do that all the time! I use Dovobet steroidal cream for the stubborn patches and doublebase moisturiser for all over. I also have diprosalic scalp solution which is soothing when my scalp flares up. I have found that dead sea salt scrub is helpful (Dead Sea source) as you can feel it creating a waterproof barrier on your skin. Unfortunately I have yet to find anything to help the nail condition.

Yes it is normal but should and kind of needs to be treated, check above the leg area just at the top above the penis for small lumps, if there is small lumps the testicle would still be stuck inside your stomach and didn't come out when you was a baby, you can see the doctor and get a small operation to get it moved down to the other testicle, but make sure you ask for a scan before it because when it happened to me they scanned me after the operation and said it was dead, make sure they check it isn't dead because if it is dead they need it taking out and you can get a fake one placed in so that it looks more 'normal', if it's dead it can lead to testicular cancer, hope this helped.

I have a miracle cure for you all - Banana skin! Cut off a square of banana skin with a knife and use a plaster to stick in on to your foot where your verruca is. Change it every morning and night - it doesn't matter if you forget or can't do it one day. The banana skin will kill the skin, so every day/every other day get some scissors and cut away the dead skin, but make sure you don’t cut it so it bleeds. Eventually the verruca will come out. Then it will be gone max I’ve known is 2 weeks! It's amazing!!!

Hi just a quick question - do you put the banana skin skin side down onto the verruca or flesh side down? Also, I'm sure I read on here last night that someone suggested putting nail varnish or duct tape on them. I'm currently trying nail varnish - i'll let you all know how I get on.

Sorry you use the flesh side on your skin. Also if you keep the banana in the fridge then it won't rot so you can cut more skin off the same banana! Good Luck!

Sounds like a fungal infection, a bit like dandruff or athlete's foot. I know it's nerve-wracking, but talk to your GP and he'll be able to help. It's not fun when such sensitive bits of you are so sore. Your GP will have seen it before and is trained to be helpful and supportive, and obviously to keep things confidential.

i was told to use dekrarin so i did, it seems to be getting worse not better, i use a spray on my sox and shoes, then use cream 2 times a day, i get dead skin on top of the area and it gets itchy, i claw at my foot and can't help the skin coming off sounds awful but what can i do.

Have you tried soaking your feet in a bowl of warm salted water? Once the skin is soaked it'll become soft. Then you can use a pumice stone, or something similar, to rub on the problem areas to remove dead skin.

My labia is quite large both the majora and minora. It takes quite a bit of cleaning and i get a build up of white dead skin i guess. Its thick and requires me to scrape it off with my nails to get rid of it. There is no funky smells or other problems but This is everyday. My partner and i when engaging in sex he sometimes get stuck on my skin. I find that at times the skin is stopping me from being lubricated enough for sex. What is the best option for this?

Sarah, if there is no smell then it sounds like the normal female discharge. Take a wash cloth & clean between the lips daily & use a Lube during intercourse for your comfort. You can also see a Gynecologist for information. Good Luck!

I also have this problem (the white stuff which isn't smelly or a problem) I use intimate wipes to clear it (you can get them from your Avon lady they are really good, they also have a sensitive wash too)...I used to use my nails to scrape it away too!
