I have ridges in my toe nails which make them feel bumpy not smooth, what could this be?

I cant feel the tips of my fingers and around the nails, and I can rip tips of my nail off without them bleeding and any pain. The base under the nail seems to grow over the nail it self and looks very dry. Have tried hand and nail cream for that. The sides of the nails seem to curl up instead of downwards to the skin and look discoloured and out of shape.I have taken clippings to the doctors and the result came back with no fungal infection. Can you suggest what it can be? Many thanks Lloyd

hey, i used to pick my toe nails alot, i had an infection which i had puss filled blisters next to my nail. I went to the doctors and i got cream. That went away but my toe nail next to my big nail (on both feet) is discoloured and brittal. It doesnt grow out, it grows up. iv tried leaving it, iv tried the cream they give me. I dont think its fungal nail infection as its only them two toes. Iv had it for around 5-6years. My toe nail next to my big toe on my right foot came off last night (well half if it) it just lifted off, didnt hurt or anything. what is wrong with my toe nails? thanks.

Hello. I have a problem with my finger nails. Two finger nails of both hands when they get at the certain lenght start curving downwards, it does not look nice and I cannot enjoy having long nails. I've noticed when the nails are wet they are the same shape as others, nice shape. Is something wrong with my nails? Does it show any health problems?

My finger nails have gone from being strong, dull shine, slightly curved nails(when looking at finger tips with nails on top) to nails which are very soft and breakable, very shiny at the ends and curved so much that they look as though they have been pinched by pliers. My diet has not changed and there is nothing significant, as far as I can recall, that would cause this. . . .please help. Carla.

I used to bite my nails, now my tips grow way to early and there is only a tiny base for my nails. This seems silly but it means only half of what should be stuck to my finger is and that cause my nails to break alot, what should I do?

Hello, I have suffered since having children with very dry skin around my fingers mainly being the middle and index ones. They become very dry and painful, usually the nails lifting up on the side and can come to a point where infections (pus balls around the nails appear). It is has only affected my finger nails not my toe nails. I have been to a consultant and they have mentioned that it is psoriasis/dermatitus but all the creams I have used do not help and the throbbing can become quite painful. When I see the picture as above my nails have not discoloured like this. Can you please help. Many thanks

Hi I play 3 different racquet sports and have trouble with big toe nails and 2 toe nails next to them - presumably from impact! Big toe nails become thick, semi-hollow, discoloured and painful. Have tried different creams and anti-septic liquids, to no avail. Is there a quick-fix for this problem as, apart from pain, am embarrassed to wear open shoes!

I have had problems with both my big toe nails for nearly four years. I have been to a determology meeting and was refered to a nail specialist in the u.k. who still can not diagnose my problem. I have had my left toe nail removed and it still grew back the same. I now have two nails on my left toe and i have four toe nails on my right toe. The nails are one on top of the other. They are discoloured but were tested for a fungal infection but the test came back negative. It is very sore and i have seen lots of doctors and the condition is still undiagnosed. I can send pictures if needed. Please help.....

I have discoloured toe nails on both big toes and also on a couple of other nails. The top of the nails are not attached to the nail bed, although the new growth always looks healthy, as they grow it changes. The skin on the soles of my feet often peels and I have to ensure that I moisturise my feet every day using a base oil with essential oils. I use a pumice at least 3 times each week. I have tried everyhting to get rid of this and my feet have more TLC than any other part of me!

Hi, I have a problem with my big toes, they are discoloured and quite thick. A few years ago I thought I had ingrowing toe nails on both toes so I went to the doctor but he wasnt very helpful. Ended up sorting it myself, went to see another doctor and I actually did have ingrowing toe nails. I dont have much of a problem now with them, but my nails can be weak at times. Can you help with any of these issues, thanks

I developed psoriasis in my hands and nails about 4 years ago. Like lots of people here I was embarassed about the appearance of my nails as they were growing at right angle to my fingers. I ended up going for a private consultation as the pain was unbearable - that consultant prescribed Haelan tape which does work and has made the appearance of my nails better. They are still ridged if you look very closely but are no longer discoloured and are growing in the right place. Within the last year my psoriasis has developed in one of my feet but is only affecting the small toe and nail on one foot.

Hi there! I was diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis which affects my skin and nails. My toenails are thick, discoloured and often lift off! My fingernails are so soft and thin causing them to split down past the quick, but it's the pain in my nails that's worse! I am very disabled with PsA, on methotrexate, since 2006, I've been medically retired since 2008, is there anything I can try to a) improve brittleness, & b) to help with the pain! It's awful! Thank you,

Anything will help,im not sure if it's psoriasis but I do suffer with discoloured nails(yellow),not every nail,my two big toes are flaky, but the thing I havnt read on here is the smell, now only I can smell it if I rub my nails underneath,is this common? I've been given two courses of medication, ask me the name I'm really not sure, but I do know I wasn't aloud anymore due to it could effect my liver if I had more, I don't know what else to do as it's been over 5 years now and doctors have said it will take time to go. But surely not this long. I do also suffer with an itchy scalp I don't know if that's related though.

I have psoriasis on my lower leg and elbows and scalp more than 30 years and ove the past 10 years my nails are affected. This is so depressing as I used to be proud of my hands and feet! The nails on my toes grow thickened and discoloured and ingrow so it involves regualr visits to a chiropodist to cut them effectively but it always returns. I cannot wear closed in dainty shoes unless they're loose fitting and I keep the nails painted and short... i get the classic signs- splintering and salmon oil spots I hate it and wish there was an effective treatment. I am sometimes in agony with the skin patch on my leg..so itchy and sore and scaly.. I guess a chronic condition but I try to stay positive!! :)

it started when i was around 10 years old both my big toe nails crumble and i went to my GP who suggested cural nail i tried for a long time but instead it kept crumbling i was given oral medication, i tried a nail ointment from my pedicurist it sem to change a bit but not much really but it didn't work either i left it for a long time without treatment as i got tired of treatment after treatment and never saw a result. i used some acid that was sent from abroad and that helped it to grow back but it did cause a burn around the nail after i used it as it was a quiet strong acid solution i asked for my nails to be sent to the lab but the results showed that there was nothing wrong with my nails, i have to paint them as they are discoloured . however i know that there is as it is not normal and its grows side ways pls advice me on what to do i'm worried.
