Hi my 20mnth old son has a skin condition that's baffling me. On his back he has a large area of raised skin mottles to the touch and it has been getting bigger for the last year or so now. It doesn't bother him most of the time but when it does it itches and nothing I use soothes or reduces the area of raised skin. I've used creams like Diprobase, powders like anti fungal items and changed diet but nothing helps and though I've searched your site and many others nothing seems like this condition. It's not contageous but I'd like to find a way to remove this lager area of raised skin and discomfort for my child, in itself I've not been worried apart from the fact that the patch of skin is covering more of his flesh at quite a quick rate. The raised skin is not discoloured ion any way either. I've also talked to my Health Visitor and Midwives at the Health Clinic but this seems to get me nowhere. Is there anything you can suggest or any way you can help? Thankyou,

Hiya, my mum has a chunky, discoloured big toe nail and it curls right under the skin for years. The skin underneath is also thick. the skin and nail is disconnected. The doctor keeps sending her home telling her to put tea tree oil on it but they have been saying it for years and it still hasn't improved, and she isn't the type to argue back, i think there talking rubbish and wish she could find a doctor that actually wants to help instead of trying to get her out the door fast so they can have coffee break!I wish i could apply for her to go on the show but i know she will be embarrassed. I know there is a tablet to clear it up as iv seen it on "This Morning" show. What other options are there?

I'm 21 and I'm paranoid that everything doesn't look right? My vagina is quite pink but discoloured on the left side with more skin than the right there is also a dark circle towards the top which looks like a bruise and I worry that some times it doesn't smell right ? Any clues or am I just paranoid?

Pigmentation on the vulva is normal and common. There's a technical name for it, but the term escapes me right now. You should check for a rise in the pigmented area. Like a growth. If you don't have this, then it's normal. Just keep an eye on it. Also, extra vulva skin is very common as well. It's more of a visual issue then medical. Don't worry about it. If you're still worried, talk to a doctor.

I cant feel the tips of my fingers and around the nails, and I can rip tips of my nail off without them bleeding and any pain. The base under the nail seems to grow over the nail it self and looks very dry. Have tried hand and nail cream for that. The sides of the nails seem to curl up instead of downwards to the skin and look discoloured and out of shape.I have taken clippings to the doctors and the result came back with no fungal infection. Can you suggest what it can be? Many thanks Lloyd

He said she had already been treated and no longer had the fungal infection - just the after affect of lack of pigmentation, which cannot be medically treated (but you could cover with fake tan) you just have to wait for your skin to naturally recover. See above: "It is possible to get rid of the change in the pigmentation of the skin but it may take several months as all the damaged skin needs to shed and be replaced by new skin that hasn’t been discoloured."

I'm 18 and I've lived in discoloured teeth for 5 years now. I have white rectangles on both my front incisor teeth. It's quite annoying, It really affects my confidence. I was bullied in school over it. I would've considered having whitening done to hide discoloured teeth but I costs so much.

Hi, I first developed DSAP lesions in my early 20's. Now in my late 30's, most of mine are still rough, but not discoloured. I find that the ones which are discoloured start out as pink or red, and over time they have become more brown. I have one large sized legion on my fore arm which is brown for example. Mine don't ich either, but I do suffer from horrible dry skin which can make it worse. Lots of cream helps with the roughness a bit, but I have not found anything that completely helps. The more cream however, the less noticeable I find the spots are. My only word of caution is don't pick them or scrub to much backseat this only makes them worse and can cause them to become red.

I was told by my doctor that both my big toes had fungal nail infection (not actually tested though) as they were mildly discoloured. 1 of them looks like its trying to grow Another nail underneath. I was given nail treatment but didnt really follow through. I bought a scholl treatment and have been doing it religiously, i have 1 week left and my toes look worse than they did before! They are now white and discoloured and a little crumbly, hard etc, it's embarrassing. My mother has it too on both her big toes and she told me about 'nail psoriasis' so am wondering if this is actually what i have? I do have skin psoriasis on my scalp and have had for as long as i can rememeber. Its such a shame though to find out theres no cure for it as of yet.

Same here!! I have scalp psoriasis and my nails are suffering!! I just discovered that psoriasis is caused from too much yeast in the body. Get tested or do a home saliva test. (Saw on Dr, OZ). I'm giving up sugar and gluten as these feed the fungus. I've done this for one week and can't believe the difference!!

There darker color is totally normal, skin down south is actually different than the skin on our face. As for the cuts (?) try wearing granny panties and loose pants or shorts. Try to give as much freedom as possible to heal. If healing doesn't start fairly quickly, see a doctor.

I Wouldnt worry because i have the same problem, many vaginas are discoloured and my have hanging skin it just who you are.

Hiya my 14 yr old has saggy discoloured skin on the outer of her vagina is this normal?

Now (where i think some nail has snapped off in the cut) there is a hole where when i walk the inside seems to be pushed out?? I am concerned I have insulin resistance, pre diabetic? I have had a dry discoloured patch of skin area across my upper shoulders, close to my neck, which has even produced spots, increased number of skin tags under arm pits. I am 56 and never have had spotty skin. Also have strictly adhered to a weight reduction programme for 3 weeks and have only lost 3 lb. Where do I go from here? Calorie intake under 1000. Low carb and sugars. My BMI is 30. I am also generally feeling tired and unwell.

Hi, I'm a 19 year old art student and I've noticed that the skin around my fingernails is quite dry, though I moisturise as much as I can and buy special hand creams. Also my right index finger has very dry, flaking and cracking skin as do some other small parts of my hands, and they also bleed when they crack. The skin of the affected parts is quite thick and discoloured at times, I'm wondering is this Eczema, or something else and what can I do to treat it. I've seen my GP and they just recommended Eczema treatment creams which aren't really helping. Thank you!

The other big toe nail was also discoloured the same, a yellow colour but was growing fine. I went to my GP where he prescribed me a nail paint that i have apply everyday and so far nothing is happening apart from making all my nail look worse than ever. My toe nail is stil not growing. Im really paranoid and selfconscious about it and would really like it if i was to be able to wear sandles and flip flops when the summer comes. what can i do?? Thankyou

Ok i had the same problem and if you do it the way i did its gonna hurt. Basically this solved itself unexpectedly while having sex. there is no way of putting this that isnt blunt, the foreskin ripped. it healed with some scar tissue and is all normal now. Ur other option is to get a circumsicion at such an old age which will probs hurt more. I asked my doctor about this before i decided to take it into my own hands. He perscribed me with a numbing agent to do exactly what i unintentionaly did without the numbing agent.

Hello, I am 18 years old and 2 years ago on holiday in India I fell asleep in the sun and burnt my front badly. The sun burn healed but has now left me with blotchy discoloured and dry skin on my front which has now travelled under my armpits. I've already tried an number of creams, moisturisers, lotions, oils but nothing seems to work. Please help me as I would love to wear a bikini again without feeling embarrassed because I have blotchy skin! Thanks
