My doctor has told me to take my snug piercing out as it is infected and the longer it's in there the infection won't go , she said the infection is clinging to the metal bar . I went to my piercer to have it out and he said taking it out was a bad idea as if indeed it was infected it would just trap the infection, so he just put a longer bar in . I am on antibiotics already but I don't know what to do , take it out or leave it

I would probably listen to your doctor and take it out.

I've had an ear infection for 5 weeks now in my left ear. I previously had my first ever ear infection 2 months earlier. This recent infection was initially 100 times worse. After initially visiting the doctor i was prescribed amoxicillin. However, after 2 days my ear had got worse and i couldn't lift my head of the pillow and lots of discharge was coming out. Painkillers were doing nothing for the pain and i was crying with agony so i returned to the gp. My antibiotic was changed to co-amoxiclov, for which i have now had 3 x 7 day courses and I am starting to experience the side effects of antibiotics. I still have infection/pus behind ear drum(a nurse has looked) and i am due to return to doctors this week. Although i am in no where near as much pain as i initially was, I am concerned that the infection has failed to clear. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Did it eventually clear?

I had and have exactly the same thing, they too prescribed co-amoxiclav and gave me a "diluted" codeine drug to help with the pain. I had seizure like spasms which may be abnormal but I'm guessing it was something else, loss of balance and insane headaches, like no head turning, discharge and a very painful and sensitive left ear including the bone behind it. My ear cleared up but I could never remember how it was before in terms of hearing, my paranoia leads me to believe that the ear is not as good as it had been before the infection! A couple of months later, now, my ear is blocked all over again, it's frustrating, it's like hearing through fingers covering your ear. My left ear has no pain (weirdly) and is just blocked, in the beginning I was able to reposition and move my ear to somehow "unblock" it and hear again until it subliminally closed up, as if there's a very viscous liquid behind my ear drum, which there probably is. I'm looking for help but can't go GP or seek drastic help as its exam season and the exams are just randomly spotted all over the following tweets and so it's very awkward. Basically, I'm supporting you and giving you that community feeling as you have given me by letting me know that I'm not alone! Please get back to me if you went to check up and got a reply or any news. Thanks , C.

Can me my partner and a friend who are cleared from infection cause an infection betwwen us?

sounds like the problem i had. have a 2nd op but this time ask them to leave the wound open and not stitch it up. Will take a good 4 months for it to heel, but it works and is easier to control.

I'm 15 I think I have a bacterial infection, I'm a virgin, idk if it could be a yeast infection either. I'm on my period right now, but I stuck my finger in there and out came a little blood mixed with this white creamy stuff. What could it be? Every once and awhile I have a burning sensation after I pee too, I want this to go away immediately.

Sounds like Chlamydia, very common, go to your GP for antibiotics will fix it, but if left it can cause sterility.

Does anyone know of an excellent plastic surgeon in Sydney Australia? After spinal fusion surgery 4 years ago my friend developed a staph infection, since then she has endured 14 botched operations, spent over 12 months in hospital, had multiple pic lines, has unsuccessfully had washouts, debridements, skin grafts and has now been put in the "too hard" basket. She is at a loss. She has been left with a huge hole in her back, still has the staph infection, and there is apparently no further help available for her in Newcastle Australia. Living with constant pain and this infection is taking it's toll.

I study biomedical science, which looks at disease and infection etc, but i have never heard of the hair preventing infection! the vagina does have ways of preventing infection but i do not believe that this is one of them. the vagina is alkaline and this helps prevent bacterial infection as does the discharge. if you want to be fully shaven then go for it, as it shouldnt lead it increased chance of infection. but if you are worried then speak to your GP!

I have had many ear infectins, and this one I have had since last summer. Even being under the hospital has not got rid of it. I had a swab done, and this ear infection is a coliform infection. Even the medications for this ear infection has not cleared it. I really am fed up. I hearing is now bad.

If it is an infection, it would be very unwise to remove the piercing. If the bar is removed the holes will heal, trapping the infection in the centre of the piercing - under the skin. This will form an abcess. The best solution I have found to treat piercings with a constant infection is to make sure that the bar you are wearing is titanium. If it contains nickel, this will cause infection. Also, use contact lens solution to clean the bar three times a day. Being completely sterile, this liquid considerably helps infection. If the problem persists, visit a piercing studio and explain to them, they should be able to offer advice.

Can the infection from all these "knots/cyst" become deadly? I have several around the base and back of my neck. With it being so close to my brain, all this infection scaes me. At times I can't turn my head. It seems to me that my body would be constantly working over time trying to rid itself of so much infection.

I have had plenty on my neck and one doctor just straight up told me that any time anything is basically at the base of your neck and above, it is way too close to the brain to ignore. If you feel your abscess might become infected, you should go on antibiotics until it clears. We all know they come back though right. I have had many cut out from my neck and have developed bad arthritis, so if you can avoid any excision, please do. Doing breathing and shoulder rolls to alleviate stress in the area helps and I cannot remember the last time I had one there, which was a frequent thing for me before. Best of luck dear.

Christmas time I had a really big problem with my ears and nobody wanted to help me!! I had really bad ear ache & lost my hearing. I knew I'd got an infection so I went to see my doctor, who told me I'd not got an infection but a lot of wax pushing on my ear drum, she suggested I have my ears syringed & told me to go to my local PCT as they didn't have the facilities. I then went to my local PCT, saw the nurse there who then told me that I HAD got an infection and the they wouldn't syringe them until I got rid of the infection (as it would just make the pain worse), she told me to go back to my doc's. So I did & she refused to treat an infection!!! So in the end i went round in a big circle, nobody helped me, the pain went eventually and my ears never got syringed!!! :(

Hi! I'm a nursing major. the cranberry juice, yogurt, probiotic stuff would be to treat a uti, or urinary tract infection. that does not smell-the problem is in your bladder and where the pee comes out, and would hurt when you pee. a fishy odor from the vaginal area sounds like a vaginal infection. it might be a yeast infection, it might be an sit, or it might be bacterial vaginosis. you can use over the counter monistat, which would fix it if its a yeast infection. otherwise you need a trip to the doctors. any of those things are treatable, so your problem should be over soon :)

You don't need surgery. You could have a yeast infection or a STI. It is important to get treated for a genital yeast infection. You may pass the infection back and forth to a sexual partner.

I have had all the syptons of this infection and have been with my boyriend for over 10 months we don't use protection but i am on the pill. He has had no signs of the infection i have but doctors Don't know whats up with me. I have been treated with hearpy tablets but my symptons don't match up to any of the ones fot that infection but very simular to this. Could you tell me what i must do too find out if this is what i have as i have no symptons now. Also is this treatable. Thanks

I am 17 and currently 28 weeks pregnant. In the past i have been diagnosed with Chlamydia and both me and my current partner and father to my baby have each had the set of antibiotics to clear the infection. However, whilst being pregnant i have suffered a minor vaginal infection which caused a slight bleed from my vagina after sex. Therefore, after seeing a gynaecologist, and she had taken swabs to test and see what the infection was. I had been given tablets to take 3 times a day for a week to clear the infection however i do not know what this infection was called. After this, i seemed ok with everything, there was no bleed after sex just burning around the vulva. I then spoke to a pharamacist and she said my symptoms sounded like thrush, i had a pessary and cream and the infection didnt seem to clear in any way. So a few days later i bought a new pessary and cream for the thrush and that didnt seem to work either. I still seem to have swelling on the inside of my vulva and have pain and burning after sex. I am scared to speak to my midwife about this as i dont want to seem a pain and seem like i am not able to control a simple infection. Therefore would really appreciate your help and advice. Thanks

Some misinformation here. First, there's no pus with PG because it's not an infection of any kind. It's a sterile wound. You may get an secondary infection, in which case pus is possible, but PG itself is not an infection. Secondly, 'cure' is not an appropriate word here. 'Remission' is a better choice. PG sufferers who also have other auto-immune disorders will more likely than not to manifest future outbreaks of PG. Those that don't have other associations may never have outbreaks, but the disease is still there.

I heard about pyroderma gangrenosum thru a teacher at my college. this was her second flare up of PG and it was interesting to see it first hand, considering she is one of 2 people here in Alaska to have it documented. come to find out, what we as students thought was to pus was actually her skin trying to regrow itself. This was great news for her, because it meant that the wound was shrinking. She is now taking medication for the rest of her life, to keep it at bay. she is a wonderful person, and it was a blessing to have her show us the courage she has in making sure it does not control her life.

I've also had a nail infection which has been diagnosed as fungal for many years. I have rheumatoid arthritis also. Gels and creams have been suggested in the past, but the infection still persists. Tablets were not thought to be a good idea. I have recently seen that laser treatment is available for infections such as these. However, the above cases seemed to have been treated differently. Which is the best route to take - I would love to be rid of this infection finally :o|

I live with what I describe as a constant yeast infection. I always have. It is more than possible to get a yeast infection and still be a virgin, yeast infections are not tied to intercourse. By that I mean you don't need to have sex to get a yeast infection. See your doctor and get fixed up. Trust me when I tell you it's worth any embarrassment you may think you'll feel.

It is important to consult your GP. He/she may refer you for an ultrasound scan which will determine what the lumps are. Hydroceles and epididymal cysts are similar: they are simply collections of benign fluid. The former rests around a testicle and the latter remains on the tubes. Usually, they are harmless but if you suffer considerable discomfort, you should seek further medical advice. Your doctor will discuss any relevant treatment necessary.
