I am a 16 year old girl who has excess hair leading to my belly button, fortunately it is not as excessive as Anokhi's but it makes me feel extremely self conscious. I am on the contraceptive pill as I heard this can help with cases of excess hair. I was just wondering what pill Anokhi was on, if it was the same as mine and if mine would in fact help my excess hair problem. I am taking Ovranette. Thanks!

My excess hair runs in a straight line from the middle/bottom of my breasts down to my belly button. More hair runs to my pubic line but I have shaved from my belly button to that line. I also need help to get rid of this excess hair!! I think shaving will make it look worse. You are not alone!! Please help!

I am a 25 year old female and have alot of excess body hair which is think and corse. How can I check if I have a hormonal problem and what are the solutions to this? Are there any other things I can do to reduce the excess body hair?

If you go to your GP you can get a cream called Vaniqa. YOu need to apply it twice a day after removing any hairs (leave 5 mins between removing and using cream) Within 4 weeks or perhaps sooner, you should find that hair growth is minimal. However, must continue to use the cream on a twice daily basis. The active ingredient is an enzyme inhibitor. It inhibits the growth of hair.

Hi,I have excess face and body hair, stretch marks on thighs, chest and bust (although haven't been pregnant or had weight gain) and when I get down or tired, I get a shingles type illness. I have suffered from depression in the past and sometimes suffer from fatigue. I have had tests for PCOS and results were negative. I have been prescribed Vaniqa for hair and anti depressants for shingles. The excess hair and ugly stretch marks get me really down. Are there any other tests I could have?

Mines are blond/ginger and very thick so laser does not work on them.I tried electrolisys but is very painful and leave marks plus hairs grow back again. My doctor has prescribed me vaniqa which I been using for more than 3 month morning and night but doesn't work so much. I hate sunny days and direct light cos you can see them even more. Makeup does not cover them as I wish.I don't let anyone touch my face as the hairs are very thick, Is like touching a man's beard. Waxing is very painful and leave my face is all scared. I have 8 pairs of tweezers around the house, my bag and at work and a massive enlarger mirror!!! Feel like a woman like this is very difficult. HELP!

hi, i have exactly the same problem, im 24 and very self conscious about the excessive hair so your not alone, it gets to me the fact that i cant wear / do certain things because its embarrassing for me, but just know your not alone xx

I'm a black lady in her 30s I have sufferd from PCOS since 18 which has caused excess hair growth on my chin, jaw and now creeping to my cheeks. I have tried electrolysis for year but the strength of my hair follicles make it hard and would get excess swelling after treatment eventually gave up. I would like to try laser hair removal but I was told it was not possible due to my skin colour, so I was glad to see a black lady in my position who was treated with laser removal. Can you give me more details as to what type of laser treatment was used?

What was the name of the tablet the doctor prescribed in the section on the woman with excess facial hair? It was for reducing hair growth but was not a contraceptive.

Glucophage is the name of the tablet you are looking for and its basically another name for metformin, a lot of women swear by this used with a contraceptive pill. Hope this helps :) x

this may of been metaphormin, but it does give you dihorrea, i take this with a very low carb diet, like 2 cambridge shakes and a meal and 2 litres of water and it really slows my hair growth down as i have pcos. i have to wax and thread every 9 days if on the diet when not on the diet every 5-6 days. oh and excercise helps. im going to try laser their is a nhs hospital in hertfordshire i think. that specialising on black skin, and please ladies research research first before you let someone work on your body, i went to the courthouse on harley street and they didnt have a clue on black skin and never worked on black skin, they tried to compare my dark black skin to an asian complexion. no before and after pics of previous patience. for me no evidence of your work, not my money and im definetly not you guniea pig. good luck dont give up. jamaicans say if you have hairy skin your a strong woman. love sparkle

Hello, I was just wondering if your GPS has considered polycystic ovaries syndrome. I have suffered from this for 15 years and didn't put on excess weight until after child birth but have always suffered with excess hair and have just been put on metformin to try and help my symptoms also spironlactone can help with excess hair. It will not cure it but will hopefully help the symptoms. I only wish I could have been put on this when I was 20. I have never heard of cold weather causing excessive hair. I wish you luck with your daughter and hope she gets some answers soon.

I used to wear my hair not noticing about it but then i got teased for it and i have never worn my hair up since year 7! It bugs the hell out of me because i have side burns, excess hair on my stomach and chest. I dont shave my side burns in case they grew thicker but i have long hair so it covers them, is there a good way to get rid of excess hair???

I am 25 and have had excess body hair since I was 12. I have hair on my nipples, bum area, stomach, upper arms, face and some on my back. I get it from my mum who also has excess hair, plus my Dad is pretty hairy and it's dark too.It used to really bother me but I am starting to think that (though I am not a ferminist) to just sod it and think women are meant to have hair and everybody is different. I have a lovely partner who stills loves me and thinks I am sexy. It is always worse in you mind as well.

I am 18 and have really bad excess hair everywhere - lower back, chest, stomach, intimate area, face etc. I have tried shaving, waxing and hair removal, none of these have worked as it has either grown back or made my skin break out! I have been to my GP and she has given me a contracptive pill that is known to help with excess hair and acne, if this does not help she will refer me to a dermatologist. Is there anything else i can try? It is really getting me down. Please help!

I'm 15 and I have a lot of excess hair all over my body - it is especially noticable on my face and lower back. I had an eating disorder 2 years ago which increased the amount of hair, and have just recovered from a relapse which has increased it yet again, however I am also aware that my excess hair is also genetic. I am looking for something as permenant as possible, however my hair is naturally fair and therefore not suitable for lazer, and I would prefer to avoid going on the pill as to avoid weight gain - do you have any advice please ?

Hi, I WAS diagnosed with PCOS ten years ago. I also have all the side effects including weight gain and excess hair. While the weight is slowly starting to come under control it is the excess facial and body hair that is giving me huge grief. I have fair skin and very dark brown hair so it really shows up. Conventional hair removal is not very effective and i was going to do a course of laser hair removal but was told by the beautician it would not work because of the PCOS. Is this true?

I am 31 and was diagnosed with PCOS 4years ago after failing to fall pregnant.I already had a daughter from a previous relationship. I suffer with the excess hair, acne, irregular periods, excess weight that is hard to shift and mood swings. My GP has prescribed antibiotics to treat my acne (been on them for 2 months and still not cleared but are slightly better). I have been told that i can't be prescibed any other medication as it would involve fertility drugs (also help with excess hair). I feel very self concious about myself and have low self esteem. Don't feel like you have to give up hope though, i married a year ago and i have had a further 2 children (was very surprised as i fell very quickly!!)so nothing is impossible. I would just like to improve my self esteem and feel that i can only do that once i am happy with my appearance and that means finding treatments for the excess hair and acne. x

wow, i just watched this clip and the lady in it has excess hair in all the places i do too. I will def start trying to save for laser treatment specially now i know i will not have to grow my hair before treatment. I shave my facial hair every day and am VERY conscious of it, specially when i get a red rash on a daily basis (sudocrem helps a bit). I also suffer from pcos and depression (excess hair contributes to depression).

im glad I found this site. I am surprised to find how many women share the devastation of having excess facial hair. Not everbody understands what it is like to pluck hair by hair or shave every day and still end up with a five o'clock shadow. I have been suffering with excess facial and body hair since puberty. I am now 29 and find that it has just worsened over time. This problem not only diminishes your self confidence but your sense of feminity as well. There is no easy cure. laser treatments are timely and costly. Is there an easier solution?

i am a 28yrs old female & i suffer with excess hair. i have previously been tested for PCOS but do not have the condition. this effects my daily life & holds me up getting ready in the bathroom to go anywhere & therefore holds others up in my house. to shave to go swimming or to go out on the pull is a complete chore which takes forever.i am approx 4st overweight & TRYING to do something about it but when i have lost weight before the excess hair doesnt seem to have reduced. also when i was in the correct weight range for my height i had some excess body hair then.this knocks my confidence more than my weight does as i think extra weight on a woman would be more acceptable to a man than extra hair would. so i have no confidence in being intimate with a man.the other problem i have is ive looked into laser treatment which is supposed to work'best' with dark hair. well all my hair that i need removing isnt dark -im ginger/aurborn so some of the hair is that colour & some is dark. i havent got the money to spend on laser & esp when i dont know if it will treat all the hair & if it didnt it'd be a waste?? is it free on the nhs? given my hair colour i have pale skin so the hair shows easily. i can make such a mess of my skin trying to get rid of this hair cos im so determined to get rid of it when i know its there. i just want a solution!! please advise, thanks!
