Hi I am a 46 year old female who started having an extremely High (fowl) smell when I urinate. I noticed that this happened after I had a bout of high fever episodes every 2 weeks for about 5 months (Jan 2011-May 2011)and the doctors kept giving me anti-bio-tics to treat me for UTI when I didn't have any of the symptoms. Eventually I became so sick and deathly looking I was hospitalized for 5 days. After being discharged I realized my urine had a smell (which is very unusual for me). I've been going to different doctors they all give me an anti-biotic but the fowl smell gets more worse. It's very embarrassing when I use the bathroom. At home my husband always have a supply of bleach for after I use the bathroom. It's so confusing also because at times my urine is clear and that fowl smell just don't seem right. They never really told me what was causing the days of fever either. Can you please help me? PS I started having the fever from Jan 25 2011. It would go down the week I'm on the anti-biotics and once the dosage is finished it would return the following week. that went on until May 2011 when the fever didn't want to go down my complexion changed and the doctor decided instead of giving me the drips and sending me home they hospitaziled me. Jessica

Are you going to hospital all this time or are you with your local Doctor??.. I find when I go to hospital, they treat you and you dont get that one to one full explanations.. If you do have a local doctor in this scenario, ask him to explain the reports or get report sent to him, so he can monitor you and explain better.. From there a closer one to one situation forms as it seems your not out of the woods yet and you need this..If you dont have a local Doctor in this, perhaps go to one and explain what has occurred and the on going issues.. 46 is very young still and yes you would want this sorted.... start asking questions

Hi im 18 and female. And I have only ever had sexual relations with men who have been tested for STIs and are in the clear and I have not changed my sexual partner for a year and 7 months. However I went to my GP a week ago and said I have suspected glandular fever and tonsillitis and gave me antibiotics for the tonsillitis but I had to go back and change them twice because of the side effects I had from them. This morning I woke up and thought my vagina felt a little sore and I had white blisters around the opening later today I checked and several had burst and gone a browny colour. I have only had sexuall relations with clean tested people and I haven't changed my sexual partner in over a year so I cant have an STI can I because there isn't anywhere I could have caught it from? Is this a part of glandular fever? More side effects to all the different antibiotics I have been given? What could have caused this? I cant get to my GP for another three days and I am quite worried about this so I need some answers before I go to my GP. HELP!

I've been told herpes is only tested for if it's active and, as it is asymptomatic in a large percent of people, many people never know they have it. I don't know about the glandular fever side of things.

Hi Kate, I have the exact same thing. My tonsils look like a plasters radio with the amount of white spots over them (mainly the right ride though) and it is very very difficult to swallow to the point I have been opting to gob into a pot rather than swallow the saliva my mouth is producing. I rang NHS Direct who advised me to go to A&E ASAP (I think this was cautionary because I havent been eating or drinking much at all and they were worried I would dehydrate further). When I went to A&E, the Nurse on reception turned her nose up at me as if to say I had wasted their time going there for Tonsilitis. The Treage Nurse was a lot more sympathetic though and gave me a referral form to see the out of hours GP. I went, they confirmed it was Tonsilitis and prescribed me anti biotics to help clear it up. I am taking ibuprofen to help with the swelling and co-dydramol to help with the pain relief but speak to your GP who wil tell you what is best for you to take and in what doseage.

Hi, I'm 18 and when my periods are really bad an painful I'm also like this. It's not normal and I've gone to my doctor and been put on "the pill" to help regulate my periods and combat the pains. They've had to try me on a few different types but it's working and helping me so much. I'd recommend going to your GP and telling them about your experiances as this could also help you.

I have recently been told that I have glandular fever by my GP. I used to always have breakouts of my type 1 herpes ( at least twice a month) which i was diagnosed with 1 year ago. My outbreaks were very severe leading up to my symptoms of glandular fever. However when I actually had virus and after I haven't had an outbreak. Is it possible that the virus has made my herpes dormant? I haven't had an outbreak for 6 weeks ( the longest period of time since getting it) I have been told also that glandular fever is a part of the herpes family

I became very ill over some time, i was about 16-17 at the time. I became very weak & tired, i didn't know what was wrong, i kept getting this rash, like above right over my body, it would start from 1 end of my body & work it's way up & it was so itchy, anyway in the end i got so bad i went to hospital to have some blood tests done. The doctor said i had either eaten something i was allergic to or i had glandular fever. The tests came back as glandular fever, which i had never even heard of before this! I was so poorly as i'd had it for sometime before i sort help. The doctor put me on steroids to boost my body as i was just sleeping non stop & had no energy to do anything, even eat, but the steriods soon kicked in after a few days & i started getting better, although i was off work for 3 months. So if you get this rash as above, it could be glandular fever.

i recently have been diagnosed with glandular fever, at first my doctor thort it was toncilitis but recently my hands face back and chest have been taken over by a red blochy rash and blood tests were sent off n i had glandular fever unfortunately it has extra worries for example : possible spleen rupture and liver damage, could this have been prevented if my doctor had reacted sooner to the tonsilitis? and taken more tests?

I have tonsillitis it's very painful and been off work for two weeks as I am just not well enough to return as of yet , I got prescribed a 10 day course of peneecillin which I don't think has really done much difference but I do feel it doesn't look as bad as day 1. My antibiotics are now coming to a end I have also been advised to take paracetamol liquid because I cannot swallow tablets. I have been drinking lots and been trying to have soup jellys yoghurt since cream etc. is ice cream actually bad? What other foods can I get to tt and help? I tried some chips last night but I felt it scratched my throat and won't be having them again for a while! Any advice anyone can give me for a speedy recovery? Would be great full :) P.s this could be glandular fever but yet to be confirmed next week as it did not show as of yet in my blood test I had but I do have a fever and keep gettin hot advise please

My name is Natalie, my son is 18months old and he continuosly gets ear infections. It comes in stages, first he gets a rash on his face, then his ears flare up, he then has conjunctivitus by the 3rd/4th day and within a few days after that he gets a very mucasy cold which lasts 1-2weeks. Riley (my son) also gets a fever for a few days when he comes down with the above symptons. Riley gets about 1-2 weeks every month where he is "normal" then it all starts up again, this has been the same routine for the last few months. When we take Riley to the doctors they just seem to fob it off with "thats children" but the last time his ears flarred up, he ended up in hospital as after a few days of having a fever he stopped eating and drinking, had dry nappies and was diagnosed with a coldsore virus, by this time though the ears had died down. Please help as a very concearned. Many thanks Natalie

Hello there I wanted to leave this message for doctors to see but for now i will leave it here. I have Intersticial Cystitis, i have done for 5 years now ever since i was 15 years old. i have had so many doctor appointments, consultations and operations not to mention the drugs i was on THAT DID NOT HELP ME IN THE LAST 5 YEARS OF MY LIFE! but that's not to say it dose not work for everyone, if antibiotics DO NOT WORK ON YOU then try WHOLE MILK, because whole milk is an ALKALINE it disrupts the (ACID) Bad Bactria in the body, drink CRANBERRY juice and water (that's a given) and if that fails then try hay fever tables, sounds strange but for 3 months now i haven't had a urinary problem because of hay fever tables alone... SPEAK TO YOUR GP ABOUT THIS FIRST!!!! But i can honestly say iv'e felt better then i have in a long time........ i have also written a letter to my doctor at the hospital i went to describing my situation in full so maybe it will help girls and women and men in the future! thanks

Get tested for mono / glandular fever:-)

I'm not sure whether I have tonsillitis or glandular fever, what's the main differences between them?
