Hi Is there anything at all, apart from HRT, that can help with horrendous and frequent hot flushes? I was on HRT for around 18 months but had to come off it recently as I have a fairly large ovarian cyst. As soon as the HRT reduced & finally stopped, the flushes came back and are as bad as they ever were. I'm 59, had my last period end of 2009. Your help would be appreciated as I'm working still and am getting fed up of looking like a mutant tomato! Thanks Pip

Hi i am 45 yrs old and had a hysterectomy 10 years ago ovaries left. i was told at the time i would likely have an early menopause, i am experiencing hot flushes and have absolutely no libido i am taking citalopram anti depressants but would like to come off these at some point however they do seem to keep my hot flushes at bay but dont help with the libido. I am not keen on the HRT solution either because of my "young age" Does anyone know of any other solutions that work.

Hi louise. Yes its normal. When I have a period my hot sweats start 2 days before and last until about day 5 of my period. Its horrible. Sometimes I flush that much I faint. Which I have done in many public places! I lose my vision and I also get a tempory fever. I know what your goin thru! Not to mention the period pains! :)

This is perfectly normal Louise and I'm sure nothing to worry about. I get hot night sweats every month about 1-2 days before my period starts and sometimes during the first couple of days. This has been my experience for several years now so I wouldn't worry (now 34!), your body may change again over time but if it starts to really bother you then go to your GP for some reassurance.

im 14 and i have hot flushes, depression, bad concentration and strange periods i know im young but it does worry me what should i do?

I am in much the same boat as Christine, as I have been taking H.R.T. for 15 years and now want to come of it. I started when I was 45 due to hot flushes and mood swings. I have been trying to wean myself off it by gradually reducing the tablets, so I'm now taking one every four days.I do get very mild hot flushes but I am anxious about stopping completely as I have tried before and the hot flushes were a thousand times worse. However I have decided that after a weeks holiday in America next week I am coming off H.R.T. for good, whatever the outcome.Has anyone any advice that they can offer me that might help?

I put cold water or a bag of ice on my face to cool me down, then my skin becomes very dry. I have had this problem for about 7 years and would like to get rid off it, i have had harmones replacement tablets, allergy tablets and other tablets but they just dont help me or work, they will just give me the side effects or give me more hot flushes. Im ok at night time but when i wake in the morning i begin to get hot flushes, when i get the hot flushes i loose weight and end up becoming too skinny. The doctors all ways does blood and check my harmone level but everything comes up ok there is no problem and so is my period ok. can you please help me thanks regards shaista

My experience of the menopause has been very much like all the above, the hot flushes were extrem every 20 minuetsI was shattered. My pharmasist at the chemist had said that the G.P. could help and I have been perscribed a tablet called CLONIDINE 25MG I have taken these for about 2 years now, they do not stop the flushes but they are not so frequentand I can manage them better.Hope this helps some of you.

I also had hot flushes and night sweats and went to my gp who started me on a course of tablets which he says are used to treat high blood pressure but work very well for the flushes too. Since taking them i haven't had a single hot flush during the day although i still get very hot at night, he offered me HRT to help with the menopause but i declined although i know of some friends who take it and swear by it.

I am 69 yrs old and my menopause started when I was 48 yrs old. How is it that I have started getting about 5 "hot flushes" every day and a night sweats and hot flushes during the night? Any ideas? Fortunately, it is winter in the UK, so going into the garden and standing there "starkers" is a good way to cool down!!!

have now found that this was probably a sympton of the Leukemia which has just been diagnosed, with a routine blood test!

I'm 21 years old and I keep getting very bad hot flushes. They started last year when I became very ill I couldn't eat or drink and if I did everything would come back and I had that illness for just under 2 months. I went to the doctor and they never found out why and since then I've been getting these hot flushes and they won't go away, they can also last up to an hour. I feel very hot and bothered, very weak, very sweaty and feels like I have to stop until it goes away, even standing in a freezer doesn't help. They come and go anytime and any day. I've been to the doctor twice now with this and they won't do anything. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them as its really driving me mad ????? .

HI, i will be 16 years old in september, and im worrying about my period for becuse it has been stopped about 14 months now the last time i had my period 3 times in one month and that time someone was passed away from my family after that my period has been stoopd and Im really worrying, DOES THAT MEANS MENUPOSE please HELP!

I am 48 and had a full hysterectomy with ovaries removed 6 years ago. Since then I have suffered severe hot flushes and sweats day and night. I am currently on HRT, which is not making the sweats and flushes any better. I have changed the HRT several times but still the sweats are not better. I have become very depressed about this as it is very embarrising having your clothing stick to your back when you sweat even when it is not a hot day. If anyone has any suggestions to stop the sweat that floods down my back and face i would be very greatful not sure how much more i can put up with.

I would ask for a referral to the menopause clinic in your area.

soya products, tablets and yoghurts and milk definatly help i just wish i knew how long this will go on for.

I am currently going through with the stressful symptoms of menopause. I am 49. I have hot flushes, insomnia, anxiety, memory loss, impatience. It's all about acceptance. I have a good support from my partner, he just laughs when I tell him I am feeling those symptoms. I hope they go away very soon and feel the same for all of you who are suffering the same. At the moment I am not taking any medication for that and I hope not to take them in the future. I work as a care and sometimes when I have to bend to help those people to get dressed I feel I am going to explote with the hot flushes.

I have been suffering with menopausal problems since the age of approx 35.I am now 50. HRT only succeeded in triggering migraines, I am taking Clonidine which helps with flushes in that I dont go quite so red or sweat, but I do still go HOT! I have tried natural progesterone cream, chaste tree, red clover, black cohosh, st.johns wort, even a magnet that you wear in your underwear!! Nothing has worked. I'm now so desperate to be free of all the symptoms, which include the flushes, memory problems, mood swings, and on occassion feeling SO ILL that I can't work. Can anyone suggest ANYTHING else?

hi, I have had end for 8 years now. After 1st diagnosis I was given a laparoscopy which removed most of it then put on a course of zoladex injections for 6 months. Apart from flushes I found them ok. I still had problems after they were finished and was due for another op when I discovered I was pregnant. Personally I feel after all the various treatments they helped me to conceive. My son is 4 and since,I have had another op and currently have fin 9 months of injec. This time round flushes have been bad but found HRT helped. It could also be down to age but heres hoping 2nd time lucky. The internet is a great place to get information, I found it helped me. Hope this helps. Take care. x

In november 2011 I had my ovaries removed as i was contionously getting cysts are they were removed the cysts were checked and they were fine but since then i have had very bad hot flushes when the nurse from the hospital rang with my results i asked her what i could take for them she said i couldnt take HRT as i still had my womb and she was honest with me and said that although they do these opps they dont no much about it so i have tried red clover tablets soya tablets and none of this works it is quite embarissing as if i go to have my hair done or if im out eating i have these flushes and sweat terrible all across the nose back of my neck my whole body is completley in a sweat for at least 3 mins I have no idea what to take or do to help them its been nearly two years now and is really getting me down

well, I'm 17 and suffering the same thing... It is horrible! I got "replens" which is a moisturizing gel you inject into the vagina and it lasts for 3 days so you can have sex for up to 3 days after using it. It's thick so it doesn't run out and gives back moisture and eases pain during sex or general pain caused by the dryness. At first when using it it looks like you have thrush because all of the dead cells inside the vagina are washed away by it but after continual use it goes away. I think the only permanent cure is hormone replacement?

I am now in my eight year of the menopause, (my mother went through 12 years of it) I will go mad. I have insomnia, anxiety, memory loss, impatience, and the hot flushes are absolutely horrendous, I get them every 5-10 minutes all over not just face and neck but right down my whole body and it lasts for ages, its such an intense heat and at night time its worse. I have severe vagina dryness and having sex is very sore and haven't had sex for a very long time, my husband had to move into the spare room as I cannot sleep with him anymore due to the hot flushes. I have tried everything from Health Shops, Acupuncture, Phyto Soya nothing works. I cannot go on HRT. I work full time and I'm just exhausted, please, please can anybody help.

Hi Sarah I too was diagnosed with endometrisosis when I was 17 and suffered with pain even after having the endometriosis lasered away during a laparoscopy so can empathise with you! Speak to your GP about the Zoladex injection. GPs don't tend to prescribe it for longer than 6 months although a specialist has now written to my GP to prescribe for up to 2 years. The injections are given once a month and do cause menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes (which at 19 I find horrendous!) although I've now been given HRT to balance the hot flushes and other side effects of the injection including headaches and mood swings. The injection goes into your tummy and an anaesthetic can be given if you're squeemish like me :o) The HRT will protect your bones and prevent osteoporosis later on in life. Hope this helps x x

i have been perimenopausal for 5 years or so & have had hot flushes & menstrual flooding & occasional gaps of between 2-8 mths between my periods. I have been on tranexamic acid to help with my heavy bleeding which seemed to work for a while but recently it got very bad when I had a period after not having one for 8 mths (the hot flushes had stopped & I thought the menopause had finally come! but no!)After 2 horrendous weeks I got some Norethisterone tablets from my Dr & took them for 10 days which quickly stopped the bleeding. I am wondering what might happen next & whether this medication can be used again? I presume it won't delay menopause? I am going to have some blood tests to see what is happening hormonally & also I have been advised that I could get a Merina coil if this continues but I feel very much in the dark about what the best thing to do in the future might be?

I am 50, I started menopause when I was around 45yrs old. No major problems except hot flushes which have now stopped. I feel fine except the fact that my family in Africa (Nigeria) are quite alarmed that I started menopause at this age. They believe the monthly cycle flushes diseases in the body and because my period stopped, my body harbours diseases. As a result of menopause, some older generation in Africa stop having sex with their wives to 'prevent' them 'catching' some of the 'illnesses' from their wives. I regret sharing this personal information with them.

I am Sue, I had a hysterectomy when I was 40 after which I had been taking HRT for 17 years. I began to get a nasty smelly discharge at 57 so I decided to stop taking HRT, the discharge disappeared almost immediately. After about 6 months I believe I got a prolapse bladder a small balloon seemed to come inside my vagina it may have been cystocele, I went to the doctor and it did not appear at the doctors when examined therefore I still dont know for sure what it was. Since then I started taking HRT again because I began experiencing terrible hot flushes and night sweats I no longer have the small balloon or the discharge or the sweats or the hot flushes. Has anyone else experienced this balloon at a similar age to me as I would like to stop HRT again?
