  • Becker's Nevus on the back

    Becker’s Nevus

A skin condition where men have a large one-sided brown patch, sometimes over half the upper back or chest, or on the shoulder. Read more →

I have a large compound nevus birthmark on my arm which has cause severe confidence issues for many years now. I am now 20 years of age and feel I am old enough to do something about it. I've looked into laser treatment but all of these treatments are costly. I've heard that people have had their birthmarks tattooed over. I want to know if this is possible for my type of birthmark, besides not being able to see the birthmark are their any physical dangers to tattooing over the birthmark? Thanks.

Hiya Claire. Im 15 now, and at birth i had a fleshy lumb on my leg, it has since changed over the years, and has gone a blue like colour, with its size expanding at the same rate of its colour change. my mother like yourself, was concerned with it, and i have been to the doctors on several occasions, and it all boils down to the fact that its just who i am, there is treatment available on the private system (laser treatment) i researched this and for me it starts at around £250 depending on the size, and colour. if your still concernd, i would advise you to contact your doctor, and get a proffesional opinion. i hope this helped :).

I think it depends on the kind of birthmark that you have. Although I don't know anyone with a birthmark on their breast I've known people with birthmarks to get laser treatments and others to be given creams to lighten the skin. I have quite a large birthmark on my stomach which I would love to get removed but I haven't been to my doctor about it so I don't know all the options there are. If you get any more information about how birthmarks can be removed please reply to this message and let me know, I hope I helped a little bit.

I'm a 13 year old girl and I'm very hairy. Very hairy. I have pubic hairs from my vagina going into my bum. So technically I have a hairy butt. But to the question. I have a really hairy vagina is it normal for me to Brazilian wax because I do know

hi i was born with a birthmark in my eye. when i was younger it was a dark purplish blob on the white part of my left eye. As i got older it has spread to the left side of my face :( I've even had a lot of people think i got beat up! I've tried derma blend but if i didn't have this birthmark i would have really nice skin! I'm wondering if there is anything to get rid of it or am i just gonna always be so self conscience about it?

Hi, I have quite a large birthmark on my left side of my back in the kidney area, it's like a big red crater in my skin, it's like the skin hasn't grown in the area of the mark and the veins can clearly be seen, I was born with this and although its very sensitive and can't be touched its never really been a problem until recently when I have started getting sharp stabbing pains in the area that are really painful and make me jump, I have no idea when it will happen or when it will stop. I have googled this type of birthmark and cannot find any reference to it whatsoever, any ideas or comments????

Hi i'm 17 and have Pale skin and dark hair. I have a lot of pubic hair, a hairy bum (actually inside and out) and a hairy belly. Also my arms are hairy but i'm not too worried about that. My bad hair is really lowering my confidence and I can't bring myself to get too close to a man as i'm too embarrassed. I saw the doctor and they ran blood tests and said the results were normal. Can anyone suggest treatments?

If you use a razor I find that causes myself in grown hairs and spots. Try using a lady shaver. Also I have hairy nipples and get really embarrassed. I pluck them out but they do become ingrown!

Hi, I have quite hairy legs and arms and in the last few years my face has become more hairy since my periods stopped. I am able to deal with this by waxing, shaving etc but now I have another problem! I broke my wrist just before Christmas and my arm was in plaster for 8 weeks. When they took the plaster off I had a lot of dark hair on my arm and back of my hand. I have slightly hairy hands anyway and remove this with one of those hair mits which works well on my 'good' hand but is not effective on the injured one. The hair is much darker and stronger. I have tried hair remover cream, shaving with an electric razor, the mit and waxing but you can still see the hairs. I asked the physio and she said the hair will look worse because the plaster has prevented hair from falling out naturally, but that it should get better. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how long did it take to get better. I feel like a freak with one hairy hand! Help!

Hi, my name's holly. I know its not a mole, but i have quite a big birthmark on my left leg. It's getting to nearly be summer now, and i love wearing shorts but i can't because of this birthmark. Obviously it's been like this since i've been born, but it does seem to be getting bigger and bigger. It's really making me self-concious and when i go out, all my mates are wearing shorts and short skirts but i can't wear shorts or anything shorter than just above my knee because of this birthmark. I'd really love to know if there's anyway you can get a birthmark removed? it might sound silly but i'm desperate to find out because i hate it and want to get rid of it as soon as i can. Please help me! thanks, love holly.

hello, my name is also amy, im 18 and i have a birthmark covering my face, neck, chest, partly on my back and leg. the birthmark on my face also caused me to have glaucoma. i have tried laser treatment and it didnt work. i dont know what else to do as no doctors have any answers. it makes me very self conscious, i cant leave my house without my perscription birthmark cover-up make up, i am very shy and cannot seem 2 gain confidence whatever i try. i was thinking the only option left is to have tattoo over my face to look like a normal skin tone? does ANYONE know if this is possible? or is there anything else i could do? PLEASE HELP!

I have the same problem as most of these girls. I have facial hair (upper lip), very hairy legs that when I shave them you can still see the hairs waiting to come up from under my skin. Also my tummy and back are hairy, very hairy arms which really get me down, hairy fingers and toes! I would like some advice on how to get rid of it all!

I'm 17 and I'm super hairy too. I know how you feel. I have lots of hair on my fingers and tummy and back and even when i shave you can still see my hair on my legs. I rally want to start wearing bikini's but its embarrassing because im scared people my see it. I get razor bumps and ingrown hairs on my legs, so I've started shaving only when i have too and just wearing jeans the rest of the times. You could try using a mix of honey and sugar and rubbing your legs down with that a couple days or so after you shave. It's helped me with ingrown hairs a bit and it leave your skin REALLY soft and smooth for a while.

I don't know how to get rid of it. and I'm only 17 turning 18 and to be honest I don't feel like a girl 😔. I'm always wearing long sleeved tops and always wearing at least to pairs of leggings under my dresses, skirts and jeans.even if I shave my legs or wax them, tiny hairs appear the next day.

A hairy man is a happy man. I am very hairy too and it does not worry me. Do not shave anything but your face. Many women love a hairy man.

I'm 17 and for as long as I can remember I've been hairy. I have a hairy upper lip- the hair isn't coarse, but it's plentiful =( I have some hair on my chin- not thick like in the picture, but noticeable enough for me, and I have slight hair on my cheeks and slightly more just below my bottom lip. I don't have so much hair on my back- not as much as my friends, but I have quite a hairy bum- including in my crack =( I also have hairy fingers and toes, and hairy arms (but not as hairy as alot of Asian girls I've seen), and some hair under my belly button and very light hair between my breasts. The teasing isn't what got to me because I've been teased since I was a child- even by my own aunts and uncles, and so I just learned to ignore it. But recently, I've become really self concious. I'm thinking of getting a £300 home laser treatment kit (Rio 60x laser scanning hair removal). Would it be better for me to go and get it done professionally?

Hey, don't worry to much about it too much, there are things you can if your not happy with it. I am very hairy and in the past I did feel very insecure about the excessive body hair. Like you my farther is not hairy, for me it started at very young age and by the age of 17 my back, chest, belly, legs, bum and practically the whole of my arms was full of hair. What I used to think was no one would find it attractive, but some do! I don't like back or upper arm hair, I think it looks horrible, no offence intended, just my personal opinion! I get mine waxed and after 5 years of waxing I have noticed that not much grows in it place any more. It is a long term solution to the problem but it is really affective to get that smooth look in the mean time! Otherwise, you can consider laser surgery. However, its expensive and I would suggest research into a good treatment centre is the key. Scarring can occur if done incorrectly or the right tests have not been carried out on your skin type, so whatever you do don't just go for the first one you find/cheapest. I have purchased a trimmer for my for the rest of my body, I use it on my pubic hair, bum, chest and belly (chest and belly I trim to about 1.5mm). You can still see that there is hair but it just makes it looks a bit tidier. I have got a lot of positive feedback from people about the way it looks (I will just say I keep fit and that gives me the self confidence to whip my shirt off to be honest). For me trimming my body hair, I think I still retain the masculinity that is associated with hair but it also shows that I keep up with grooming, looks neat and tidy. A really cool tip is to keep your chest hair 0.5mm longer than your belly, the shadow creates the illusion of a more defined chest! The only problem with this technique is that it does require a lot of maintenance, I trim roughly every 6 weeks and it can be quite a messy job. For me I think it looks really good, I would suggest you go and try this first of all start with a longer length and if your not happy just go over it again on a smaller number, but definitely try it first! The only reason is, laser surgery can be very expensive and you never know you my like the short trimmed look. Try getting your back waxed and see how you feel with the results (it stings but you get used to it, the best tip is to breath in when the wax strip is being pulled off) I would advise not using any home kits as its more painful and the results are just not as good! I know it sounds like a long process but in the winter you don't need to bother with the trimming but always keep up with the waxing as over time it will reduce the hair growth. Oh and please don't take this as me saying its the right thing for you to do but just as me giving you a few ideas! If after time you grow to like your hair as long as you feel good with it, then that's all that matters! My advise give my tips a try and then go from there!

Hi Kimberley, I have a birthmark on my face too and can relate to some of what you say. I've had laser treatment too, actually until quite recently (I'm now 26). If you'd like some support and advice on treatment, camouflage makeup, or just to talk with others then I work for the Birthmark Support Group charity and we can provide this for you - we also have a Facebook group. www.birthmarksupportgroup.org.uk https://www.facebook.com/groups/74850600019/

Hi. I'm 14, I have a large birthmark on my right leg. I have had it since i was 3 weeks of age. It started off just on my ankle but has now grown to cover up to mid thigh . Having this birthmarks has lowered my confidence a lot, as I get teased about it. I go to school in mid summer wearing stockings as I'm scared people are looking at it. Depending on the weather it changes colours. It changes from light pinky brown to reds, purples and blues. The area on my leg in which the birthmark is. Is extremely sensitive. Any ideas on what could make it less noticeable and wether it will stop growing will be much appreciated.

I've been to my docs and they said all bloods are clear but noone can help me to get rid of these hairs. I feel so alone and wished some one would help. I've also tried taking my own life because I felt there's nothing I can do about it. Xx
