I'm suffering from a very itchy scalp (small red lumps), and this is causing me to scratch my scalp and pull out the scabs. I have tried everything over the counter and have even been to see my doctor but she said it isn't scalp posariasis and was unable to diagnose my problem. This has been on-going for about 4 years now and is increasingly getting worse.

Hi, i've suffered with psoriasis since i was about 5 years old, however about 2 years ago it became itchy. My doctor put me on to a shampoo called 'polytar liquid' that delt with the itchiness. The product is not specifically for psoriasis but for ithcy, dry scalps so it may help. Your able to buy in supermarkets or at the chemist with out the need for a prescription, i hope this has helped

I would ask to see a dermatologist as scalp psoriasis can look like little red pustules as well as flaky white patches. I have scalp psoriasis and use something called betnovate which works but thecondition never disappears for long unfortunately. Anyway get your gp to refer you to see a specialist.

I have had an itchy rash over my scalp, neck and face for nearly 2 weeks now and don't know what it is. I have been to the Doctors and have been treated for eczema and scabies but it hasn't made a difference. I also have itchy bumps on my hands and it is spreading further down my chest. It can get very inflamed and when I scratch there is a burning sensation. Any ideas?

Alposyl shampoo and e45 shampoo are a starting point. Apply to wet hair and soak for several minutes which will soften up any flakes and aid removal when the scalp is rinsed. Seek a GP. They can prescribe you with exorex lotion which can be applied to scalp. This slows down the rate of skin cell production and eases itching. If this doesn't ease the scalp psoriasis your GP on your second visit may refer you to a dermatologist who will have the ability to prescribe various stronger treatments including UVB phototherapy and topical steroid creams with salicylic acid (the steroid clears the psoriasis and the salicylic avid breaks down the flakes). If the above has no effect then your dermatologist may recommend biological treatments or drugs that dampen the immune system to stop the psoriasis patches releasing chemicals causing inflammation. These are usually reserved for the most stubborn and extreme cases. Hot weather will make your scalp psoriasis a lot more itchy. Shorter hair may help keep scalp cooler and will help with applying topical treatments. Olive oil, glycerin, are good to moisten the scalp which shall reduce itching amd help remove flakes. Even better if you soak it in your hair overnight. Most treatments that are available on shelves in stores will not really help with reducing the red appearance. This will require the help of your doctor or dermatologist.

Hello my names mary. I'm 19 and have had eczema for years on my arms and face, I managed to get some strong cream from my doctor which worked a treat and it's now gone completely! However, when I was 15 I had an operation on my ears which meant I had a head bandage on for a week, this cause the skin on my scalp to become very agitated, now I have eczema on my scalp and it's horrible, looks like really bad dandruff and is always itchy. It's embarrissing for my age. Tried the same creams, and tried special shampoos but nothing's worked! Help?

It doesn't become greasy that quickly but on bad days i have to wash it twice because the amount im touching my hair from scratching. Im worried my foot fungal infection spread? or its just a phase. i do dye my hair so could it be an allergic reaction although i have never had one before...the back of my neck and towards the back of my scalp seems to be the main areas. thanksss!

Hi, my partner has been suffering for the past couple of years with an extremely sore, dry, itchy and flakey scalp. We've tried so many different types of shampoo and all caused quite bad reactions such as blisters and swelling, some even caused her scalp to crack and bleed like it had been cut open. She has been to the doctor who put her on antibiotics and anti-bacterial shampoo that also brought out one of the worst reactions! We have a green tea shampoo that doesn't cause a reaction but hasn't treated it either, does anyone know what this condition is called or how to treat it? Thanks!

Sounds like seborrheic dermatitis . Use head and shoulders. Wash your hair with cold water, hot water makes it worse. Good luck!!

Hi..im probly in the wrong section but ive had an itchy scalp for about a year now..it started off with a bit of dandruff and itching so i saw a doctor that gae me some shampoom (t-gel) which got rid of the dandruff but not the itch...since then they have gave me a few other shampoos such as selsun, and antifungal shampoo..my hair is not itchy all the time but it can be really irritating and so far these shampoos have not got rid of the itchy scalp. I havent noticed anything on my scalp but sometimes I get scabs on my scalp (probly through itching) and their is a dry patch in da middle of my head. The doctor just keeps giving shampoo or anti histamine but would be good to hear if anyone has had anything similar and if its possible to get rid of.

Hi I'm 32 and have s small spot on the front of my scalp which sometimes gets itchy, I'm not sure if it's when I get nervous, but I'll find myself scratching this one spot and pulling some hairs out, but I don't wanna pull my hair out. it sort of started like a pimple on my scalp, that never healed properly. and now it's like a skin coloured hard skin, I saw the program couple weeks ago, and I saw that girl that had an itchy scalp and thought wow, some other people do have this problem :)

Hello people! For bad, itchy, flaky scalp rub some or ask someone to put/rub some Olive or Almond or Coconut oil into your scalp. Coconut oil will require melting so put it on the radiator or if glass bottle put it over the stove-gas flame CAREFULLY don't burn yourself or break the bottle, keep turning the bottle around or leave out where the sun can reah it & melt it. leave the oil on for atleast an hour or overnight if bad scalp. OH you could also mix Almond & Olive oil together (equal amount) heat them & once cooled but still a tad warm put into/on to scalp! Trust me these will work & girls its great for the hair, it'll look fab & healthy & in great condition so you can do the flick!!! Also good for itchy scalp try lemon juice, leave on for atleast an hour. If all else fails get a specific oil from the health shop ask them to reccomend for the itchy scalp, bottles are very small & a tad pricey! But the Oils & lemon juice will defo work! Continue regulary even if condition improves keep it up atleast one a week. Oh..Oh..& another thing is Henna great conditiong & cooling for hair & scalp!

Hi I live in Norway, and have had kid eczema all my life. What I'm struggling with now, especially with the cold weather, is a very itchy, dry, and flaky scalp. At the moment I am trying to treat it with a Seborrhoeic dermatitis shampoo, but this just seems to make my scalp more flaky which shows horridly up on my dark work uniform >:( Could I use my steroid cream on my scalp over night and rinse the day after? would that get rid of the eczema on my scalp? (Dermovat 0,05%, Clobetasol, propion)

I have had scalp psoraris/yeast fungal infection for 7 years and have been losing lots of hair and very itchy scalp. Went to doctors tried every single cream and they dont seem to bother too much and just say to keep it moist using oil. I have used EVERY oil you can possibly imagine even ones in asian countries, nothing works, only if i shave my hair off it clears up after a week, when my hair grows back it comes out again along with excessive hair loss and itchy scalp. I dont like going doctors anymore they dont seem to bothered, now i have ordered some medicine from china this is my last hope. Dan

I have seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp and have had for many years. I have found that the treatments prescribed by the doctor don't really help and it gets worse with stress. The frustrating thing is not being able to keep it under control and it has now spread across most of my scalp. It is really itchy and unfortunately looks like dandruff so can be embarrassing.
