Hi, I am 43 years old, married with a 21 months old baby boy. 4 years before falling pregnant, back in 2004, I noticed a huge loss of sexual drive. Then I also noticed that I was lactating and because both my husband and I were trying for a baby, my GP put me on a course of hormone so that my level of prolactin could be brought down. Our GP also explained that this high level of prolactin could cause a loss of libido and to make sure there was no tumour in my brain, I had a MRI wich appeared normal. 6 years later my libido is not getting any better especially now that I am breasffeeding. My relationship with my husband is at a all time low and I have no sexual drive at all. My questions to you is 1)what level of prolactin should I have before considering taking a hormone treatment to bring down the level of prolactin 2)is there any other treatment to bring back my sexual drive? 3) will counselling help? thank you Abbi

I'm 20 years old and have been with my boyfriend for three years now. About six months in, I went on the pill and completely lost my libido. I changed pill for other reasons, and now have the contraceptive implant, but my libido hasn't returned. I was hoping that trying different forms of hormonal contraception would make a difference, but they haven't, and I'd ideally like to stay on the contraception, so was wondering if anyone has any advice as to how to get my libido back?

Hi i am 45 yrs old and had a hysterectomy 10 years ago ovaries left. i was told at the time i would likely have an early menopause, i am experiencing hot flushes and have absolutely no libido i am taking citalopram anti depressants but would like to come off these at some point however they do seem to keep my hot flushes at bay but dont help with the libido. I am not keen on the HRT solution either because of my "young age" Does anyone know of any other solutions that work.

I'm a 33 year old female with no sexual feelings at all. I don't feel any arousal or desire and I have never done so. I've tried masturbating and using toys and still nothing. It only ever feels like something is inside me, there are no feelings of pleasure. I don't know what's wrong with me and I'm tired of missing out! I'm not trying too hard, I don't have any hang ups about my body, I don't see sex as being wrong or dirty. I'm healthy in all other aspects. I have a daughter and was like this before I had her. I'm in a relationship and like previous relationships, I haven't told my partner I feel nothing but just go through the motions. My body responds to sex in that I do get wet, but that's it. Nothing else apart from the feel of something there! It's the same for clitoral stimulation, to be honest I just feel ticklish there..oral sex does nothing for me either. I've tried researching this online and I only ever find the same info - about losing libido or being nervous and suggestions about relaxing. But this isn't what is wrong with me - it's not a loss of libido as I've never felt any sexual feelings. It's not me being uptight or needing to relax. I've absolutely zero sexual feelings both physically and emotionally but I don't want to be like it! Has anyone ever heard of this before? I'm trying to pluck up the courage to see my GP but the only female GP there happens to be the mother of my daughter's friend so I feel quite uncomfortable discussing this with someone who I sort of know - I know GPs are confidential but it would still be embarrassing to see them out of 'work'. Thanks x

Have your testosterone level checked. This is definitely a hormonal issue, and that's probably the hormone that's low. Being "horny" is like being drunk. Now how much sense would getting drunk make if you had no alcohol in your system? About the same amount of sense as sex is making to you right now.

I have this exact same issue and always have. I have been to three Gynaecologists and they have all told me that it's just in my head and that I need to learn to relax. This just makes me irratated and upset. I really want some help on this issue as well. Boyfriends don't understand the issue properly and some have dumped me or cheated on me and told me that it's because they can't satisfy me.

I am a 52 year old, healthy/active lady. Life is fantastic apart from my libido level being at 0...My GP has taken blood tests for hormonal changes, yes its been confirmed i'm now classed as menopausal. I have accepted this new chapter of life, unfortunately my libido level has cost me my relationship. As you can imagine this has left me feeling anything but a woman and why would any other man bother with me ever again. I eat a very healthy diet, excerise, sleep well, no other health issues. I do hope you can give me some advise.

hi, i am 37 an have the same problem. But your gyni can give you a testosterone implant in your tummy, doesn't hurt much as they numb you, just leaves you abit tender. Or your doctor can give you patches of testosterone which should give you back a libido as its the testosterone that your body is not making anymore that gives us our sexdrive ! As long as your blood pressure is ok. My blood pressure has gone mental since i have become menapausal so i can't do the patches, an for some unknown an rare reason, my body spat out the implant. I now have a very understanding hubby, an once every couple of months he makes sure i climax, although it is an issue that we only have sex every 3-5 wks. So don't think you will be alone forever, there are some good an caring men left out there, it took me till now to find 1 but feeeewwwww, i have :) Best wishes to you Aly!

Your doc can give u testosterone patches or ur gyni can give u a testosterone implant. One of these should give u some testosterone back into ur body, thats wat gives us our sexdrive! An there are some good men left out there, i suffer like you but have been lucky enough to find a caring man, don't give up on love, theres someone out there for you Aly!!!!

I amm 58 and until about 5 years ago enjoyed a lifely sex life. Now it's only about once every 2 months. Although we use lots of lube it's very painful when my husband enters me and afterwards I'm left with lesions/blisters on one side of the entrance to my vagina. They take 4/5 days to clear up. It's as if I'm allergic to my husband. Also my libido is non-existent. I have an under-active thyroid and am told that this is one reason why my libido is lower. I take Livial HRT tablets. I've had lots of hormone treatment in the past and now only want to use the mininum. I've tried HRT gel but it wasn't convenient to use. I also use vagifem cream a couple of times a week. I have myself checked regularly and don't have any infections. Can anyone help me please?

Hi I have had weight loss surgery and lost 9 stone 9lb's, however since losing the weight, I now have excess skin on my stomach and due to weight loss on my breasts they are very saggy and to add insult to injury have inverted nipples which seem to have got worse since the weight loss, I am unsure whether or not to apply to my GP as I don't know if the NHS would allow this.

I am just in my 60s + plan to marry my fiance this year, hes 11years younger. Ill do whatever it takes as Im so embarrassed + cant disguise the problem anymore. Please please help!!!! Cal, x

I'm in surgical menopause and currently on HRT. I'm still having hot flashes ,hair loss, low libido and severe insomnia. The surgery was September 6, how long should I give my body to get used to the new HRT? I'm only 40 years old and the low libido, and other symptoms are gettting me down.

Why is my doctor so against h r t patches. I suffer from hot flushes, stress incontinence, loss of libido and vaginal dryness. I am 65and had a full hysterectomy age 42 . I was on HRT for about 15 years without any ill effects but my doctor decided 2 years ago that she was not going to prescribe it for me because of the published risks ( which have turned out to be a very small increase for HRT users).Vaginal dryness and loss of libido are so severe that sex is a thing of the past and to even try intercourse is so painful. My husband is very understanding where sex is concerned but is worried about my stress incontinence and the increased risk of osteoporosis as my last bone density test showed slightly below average for my age.

I am suffering with the same symptoms , I also have been diagnosed with a condition called lichen sclerosis which causes itching and soreness and have been given steroid cream , but as the hydrcortisone should only be used sparingly as it can alter the skin I have to apply estrogen cream as well. My doctor also. Won't put me back on hormone replacement therapy, surely the benefits of h r t patches out weigh the slight risks associated with it . I also had a hysterectomy in my 40s and was on hormone replacement for 15years..I wish there was an answer to this problem as the symptoms are very distressing

I had been taking HRT for a number of years and when I reached 55, my doctor said it was not advisable to continue any longer and gradually reduced the dosage over 3 months until I stopped taking it. I am now 58 and still get frequent hot flushes and sweats, have complete loss of libido and have vaginal dryness. In addition I have short-term memory loss and poor concentration. Is there anything that can be taken or used, to ease me through this part of menopause?

lots of medication can have loss of libido as a side effect - pretty much all the ones to treat mental health problems and other brain issues sadly. if you're comfortable on lamotrigine then it may be worth asking the doctor if he can prescribe something to help. the other thing it might be is hormonal contraception - thats another thing than can kill your sex drive.

I have come off the pill (Microgynon) about over a month ago because I had too many side effects, one being loss of libido, it went within a week of being on the pill. It's affecting mine and my boyfriends relationship and it's come to the point were he feels useless because I struggle to maintain any arousal for more than 5 minutes and it really makes me depressed, we've tried sex toys and foods to help, but I'm ready to give up, I need help :/

I've been off Microgynon (The pill) for over a month after it made me completely lose my libido within the first week of taking it. It's affecting mine and my boyfriends relationship because I can barely maintain any sort of arousal for more than 5 minutes at a time, we've tried sex toys, food to help libido and even drops and tablets from Ann Summers, I'm actually ready to give up, i feel horrible for making my boyfriend feel so useless, he understands it isn't his fault but it makes me feel down. I need help :/

Hi Vicky, I have had the same problem but for about 5 years now, I was on the injection for other a year but found sex very painful so I came off of it. Ever since I have never had the same feeling back. Its frustrating and embarrassing! Your not the only one with this problem, if you find a solution, let me know asap!!!

Hi Vicky, unfortunately I have the same problem. I've tried so many different types of pill including Microgynon and I've even tried the implant but all of them seem to make my sex drive pretty much non existent. However I have found that being in a more comfortable environment helps and also doing things to reduce stress levels such as regular exercise and eating the right food. They may be simple changes but it has made a huge difference for me. I hope this helps.

Hey, my names Kelsi. I`m age 20 and have been with my partner 4 years. I started having sex at the age of 16, I had an amazing sex life to start with, from always wanting to have sex to now never having sex at all. I had a great sex life with my partner but I had extremely painful periods. I then started taking Microgynon 30 as it was recommended to ease my periods by my docter. My periods became much lighter and comfortable but as a year went on..my libido drastically decreased to nothing..this was almost 2 years ago now. I now have no libdo or desire to do anything sexual and if ever i do have sex, its too painful to do so. I have had various tests, blood tests, hormone tests, pelvic scans, tried different lubes, tried doing just forplay, came off the pill for 6 months to see if my libido would come back but it didnt, now ive swapped pills to Yasmin and still nothing has changed. Everything came back fine with every test. I`m writting to ask if there`s any kind of pill in which i can take to get my libido back? Please help me, I don`t know where else to turn.

I just saw the video and your comment and I need to tell you I HAD prostate cancer and I was treated with an alternative prostate cancer treatment called Hyperthermia, in combination with low-dose-radiation. Since no surgery, chemotherapy or high dose radiation are used, the side effects were none. I do not have erectile dysfunction, incontinence, and i have no loss of sexual desire. Actually my libido increased after the Hyperthermia treatment.

I would like to know more about the mental and emotional problems connected with the menopause - for instance loss of confidence, connected with loss of mental agility, memory loss etc. Is there anything I can be prescribed? I was told by my GP that HRT can only be given for two years, and she will not continue to prescribe this although it did help

Hi mini mouse, Effectiveness of treatments depend on why it is hair loss has occurred. For instance, if it's genetic in the case with angrogenic alopecia (male patterned hair loss) then treatment options have there limitations. The best treatment in each individual case can't really be determined without examination of the hair loss by a proffessional. Perhaps your boyfreind should go to the doctor if it does get him down.
