I was diagnosed with Behcet's disease in 2010 when I was 14 years old. It began with severe mouth ulcers and all the other symptoms shortly followed. However, this site says that there is a regular occurrence in mouth ulcers for Behcet's sufferers but I have not had a flare up for 4 years now. No more ulcers since that dreaded time in 2010. Is this also common? Fingers crossed it will carry on this way!

I went almost years without a break from oral lesions.. At that point I was diagnosed and the doctors started to try different medicines... I was put on steroids and it stopped the oral lesions almost completely... Could medicine be the reason for you not having them? Also, stress is a huge trigger, maybe you have been less stressed?

HI!!! I know that ulcers on the walls of our mouth and on our tongues are very common like stated above, however, i suffer from them quite frequently, causing me alot of discomfort. So I would like to know if there is anything that causes me to have such frequent ulcers. thanks

I am a 32 year old women who suffers greatly from mouth ulcers. I have had them from late teens and dont remember a time in my life i didnt have them. There is no ryhme or reason when getting them, i get 1 or 2 then 24 hours later i have up to 8 or 9 anywhere in my mouth. They are extremly big and can last up to 3 weeks at any one time. I have been to my doctors and my dentist and both refered me to the dental hospital. They took blood and over the corse of 2 visits i was told that it was in my genes and part of my "make up" and just put up with it!!!! When they are at there worst i cant eat or speak as the pain is so incredible and due to this i get very upset and feel very low. I have tried everything from gels, pastes, mouthwash, tablets, pastels over the counter, and also herbal remedies and nothing has ever worked. I have also cut things out of diet eg: Cinnamon, Citrus, etc but to no avail. Iam desperate for someone to please please help me. i have also sent a video of the ulcers in my mouth.

Due to another problem I have, I cut out wheat, and gluton from my diet, and began to suffer with persitent mouth, and tonuge ulcers, also a sore throat. My GP tested me for various things, but with no definite conclusion! A friend passed me an magazine article, which suggested taking a vitamin'B' supplement, or eating oats in the form of porridge, they being high in vitamin'B'. The items I had cut back on contained high portions of vitamin'B'. Within 48hrs. of increasing my vitamin'B'intake all the ulcers had disappeared, and have not returned, although I still have a sore throat! What really bothers me is that my G.P.does not appear to look outside the box, and seems to rely entirely on the results of lab. tests, when clearly they are not always right, discounting any such cures, as I have experienced!!! Suggest try the vit.'B'cure you have nothing too loose!

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can give me some answers as to my mouth ulcers. Had them now for over 6 weeks, they are recurring, and even recurred after I was given a prescription - once the prescription (dissolved tablet in water and use as mouthwash) ran out, ulcers came straight back. I seem to always have at least 3, mostly on my tongue, if they go away it takes at least a week but either it will come back or more will appear. They constantly hurt, as does the back of my throat. Hurts to eat, drink, lick round my mouth to clear food and basically do anything. I don't eat chocolate or tomatoes any more as they hurt my mouth too much, as well as other foods, and maintain a good level of oral hygiene. In summary, the prescription as well as mouthwashes (standard and corsodyl), gels, sprays do not work. This is really getting me down. Any help appreciated as it's impossible to get a doctor's appointment.

Hi, have you tried to see if you are sensitive to any food, drink or toothpaste? Do you take regular tablets? Use anything regular? Make lists of what you do daily, then stop one if them for a few days and see if they get better, good luck.

I'm am also 17, have only slept with one boy (who I have now been with for two years) and was unlucky enough to have the same problem. Mine did turn out to be herpes, and I was told that it was likely my boyfriend had got it from previous sexual relationships in the past, but hadn't shown any symptoms. It is very painful, and not a nice experience especially when you don't deserve such rubbish luck, but the symptoms quickly go once you take the course of pills. As sorry as I am for you, it makes me feel a lot better to know I'm not alone with this.. hope it's the same for you.

I've had a sore mouth for about a week. One side of my mouth started to throb and then since this I have had several mouth ulcers around my Mouth.. Some by my tonsils and more clusters on the roof of my mouth and under my tongue. I have had mouth ulcers badly before (usually during my period) but this seems to be the most yet! My doctors have been very unhelpful. The pain is terrible and I can't eat. Please advise.

I use difflam which is a painkilling oral rinse. It numbs the area and makes it easier to eat.

I am a 34 year old man. I have suffered with mouth ulcers since my early 20's. I too have been to numerous doctors and consultants - the best they can offer is, "You may grow out of it", and "Yes, I get mouth ulcers from time to time - have you tried Bonjella?" Any advice on how to treat/prevent recurrent mouth ulcers (I rarely go a week without any) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :(

I am off smoking two years and I do too suffer from these month ulcers the last year or so and I've also had blood tests with no results??

I am 17 years old and have suffered from mouth ulcers for as long as I can remember, however a year ago, they got much worse. If 1 ulcer develops, more will come, leaving up to 10 ulcers in my mouth and tonsils at once. Also when I get ulcers my tongue goes lumpy and swollen at the edges, which is also extremely painful. I have been to the doctors and they just aren't interested. I need to find a way to get rid of them because they have taken over my life. I cannot talk or barely move my mouth at the moment, which is stopping me from working and attending college.

I have never suffered from ulcers before but lately it's becoming a nightmare that won't go away, they are painful and also very itchy. it started last year, first with mouth cold sores to ulcers in the mouth to blisters around the mouth and lips area to eye ulcers... I am finding it so hard to face people, they look at me like I'm infected. Whereas I myself don't know whats going on. Doctors say its just one of those things, and it can happen to anyone at any age. And they may have been Dorment in my body for long time. How do I prevent them? Is it something I'm missing... I'm currently become highly addicted to dettol thinking of kids and them getting infected is not an option.

I have constant mouth ulcers, which are on avarage 4mm in diameter. I initaly put it down to citrus or acidic fruit, as within seconds of drinking pure orange juice or an apple, or a fresh tomato, I would have ulcers in my mouth. Treatment wise I have tried everything there is both over the counter and prescribed, I've yet to see something that works… however I have recently been using CB12 mouthwash and my ulcers are not so frequent….

Hi, I have constant mouth ulcers and genital ulcers and I have suffered from these all my life, not constantly but since I have had my one year old I seem to have them constantly. i have been to the doctors many times but they keep telling me i have bacterial vaginosis and I am very run down, i also had a blood clot in my arm 2 years ago despite me being only 8 stone and 27 years old and i have never taken the pill, i was told by my consultant I was just unlucky..i have been told by the doctors i am tired all the time due to me having 3 children...could I have the symptoms of Behcets..The ulcers I describe are constant down below but they come and go in my mouth since having my son, who is one I would have a bout of ulcers in my mouth every other week and down below is constant..I have had 7 lots of antibiotics in the last year these work for around a week after and then the symptoms come back..It's extremely painful..The ulcers down below are always filled with puss (sorry to much information..) and are extremely painful..Do you think that the mouth ulcers and genital ulcers are linked or do you think I am just run down..Which ever I would really like to get to the bottom of them and I have heard that my blood clot could be linked to behcets..Any ideas??

I have LP in the mouth. I get ulcers on the side of my tounge they are big and painful. I was told by the dentist that it is an Autoimmune disease, where your bodies own tissues are eating themselves!!! I was also told that because I have Coeliac disease you can get it in the mouth too. I know you can get ulcers with coeliac disease which I had for years then it all settled down once I stuck to my GF diet. For the past 3 years I have had these mouth ucers that keep coming. I have had biopsy's to confirm LP. I am starting to put a pattern to now. I get the ulcers a week before my period. Could this now be linked to Hormones? what can I do about it to help if it is?

I am 27 & have suffered from mouth ulcers since I was about 5. The cause for me seems to be stress. Two years ago I had over 25 ulcers at the one time. On my tongue & the back of my throat which was unusual. A referral to a "specialist" ended up with him telling me that I 'clenched' my mouth in my sleep causing my 'bone to reform' & getting small bumps in my mouth or something of the sort. I wasn't convinced as how does this explain ulcers on the throat & inner lips? Anyhow, more recently my GP prescribed lidocaine ointment 5%. Which works great. But as with all the ointments/gels you need to keep reapplying throughout the day. None the less, I highly recommend it as it numbs the area immediately & provides instant relief!

I also suffer from vhl, but never had an ulcer

I totally agree with Julian with regards towards sodium laureth sulphate. I have suffered with mouth ulcers constantly since the age of 11. I am now 29 and my doctor literally shrugs his shoulders and says that 'ulcers are funny things and that we simply do not know what causes them' I read a couple of years ago that toothpaste that contains sodium laureth sulphate can be quite abrasive towards more sensitive mouths and that switching to a natural one can help clear up or keep reacurring ulcers to only a few. I changed and I have to honestly say that I have noticed a huge change. Yes I still get ulcers - have some now! but I don't tend to get as many as I used too. However if there was another alternative/remedy I would gladly give it ago. I find mouthwashes to harsh on my mouth and as soon as I use it I can feel my mouth itching. It is the same with Mars chocolate, acidic things such as tomatoes and pineapple. When I get an outbreak I get incredibly low, I cannot eat as it hurts too much and usually stick to something pretty basic such as Readybreak as it doesn't annoy any ulcers.

hey,i too have the same symptoms as you both mouth and vaginal ulcers.the pain from my 'lower' ulcers is terrible.i have had mouth ulcers nearly constantly for 12 years but the lower ones have only started this year.the doc thinks it is bechets and i am waiting to see a rhemolgist.havent found any thing to help with the pain, but have been given amitriptyline to help with nerve ending pain.dont have much hope of getting any relief,i think its just something i will have to live with.

I am 17 & have suffered from chronic mouth ulcers for 10 years. I get up to 10 in my mouth at a time & the pain is excruciating. I have had blood tests & seen a maxilofacial specialist who said that they are normal ulcers & that nothing can be done. I have tried anbesol, corsodyl, bonjela etc & they make no difference. I am at my wits end with this....please help!

My mum has this problem too. The GP & specialist have been no help at all. The only thing that she has found that helps is drinking water collected from boiling cabbage! Yes, wierd and unexplainable as it is this has improved the situation on every outbreak. She drinks a cup-full of water collected from boiled green cabbage, once it has cooled. It's not tasty but if you're desperate why not give it a whirl

Have you tried eating bananas? Apparently they coat the inside of your mouth and tongue, the potassium seems to help stop the ulcers from forming!

I've suffered with mouth ulcers and an incredible tiredness that seems to go with them, since I was a teenager. I am 54 now and have tried everything. I have even had biopsies on them, as they often last for over three months at a time. I missed the embarrassing bodies episode on mouth ulcers. I believe someone was prescribed some tablets that worked for them. Can anyone enlighten me? Also what did they give as a reason?

I am 14 years old and I have suffered from severe mouth ulcers since a very young age. I usually always have a couple all the time but I have grown used to it and tend to ignore them, however I also commonly get outbreaks where I get normally around 15-25 ulcers at once. These are normally grouped together on my toungue, side of the mouthe and lips. They have gotten so sever at some points where I have had to be taken out of school as I can't talk, eat or move my mouth (even laughing HURTS!) without being in agonising pain. I have tried many home therapies and prescription medicines to no avail. Is there anyhting I can do to reduce ulcers or bring relief?

She has in the past been diagnosed with iron deficiency,( her body cannot store iron) She is constantly at the doctors and he keeps prescribing antebiotics but after this course the ulcers returned.
