i have had a deep pore on my back on my right shoulder blade for years that inflames every couple of months and any discharge (that i feel comes from VERY DEEP within the muscle) as one would expect, really smells but my question also relates to terrible head/neck muscle pain /migraine i also get relating to this same muscle /shoulder /neck- for which i pay privately to have regular physio, manipulation and massage to help relive the tension. might the deep pore inflammation be causing the muscle to tighten /spasm ? i also have a permanent spot? i am not sure what it is at the base of the skull… .that gets very tender and swells in association with the muscle/neck pain my GP dismissed me when i even mentioned that the smelling deep pore was an embarrassing re occurring problem to me and that i felt anxious that it would erupt or smell when i was undergoing physio or even if i had a massage etc several massage therapists have commented on it and that too makes me anxious and embarrassed this has been going on for at least 4 years… i just feel that the inflammation / infection from the pore and the swelling on the base of my skull and the resulting pain /migraine from the muscle from my shoulder to the neck/head are linked in some way. the GP has given me diazepam to help relieve the tension that causes the pain but i wonder if the inflamed pore is at the root of the cause

I am 19 years old and for the last year I have been in a lot of pain during and after sex, I am in a relationship with my partner so I know it's not related to an STI. We use plenty of lubrication and we've tried different positions to ease the pain but I still get a stinging sensation and sometimes a bruised feeling almost every time. I've been to my GP because I thought it had something to do with a small lump I have at the base of my vagina but she said it was a muscle that I've worked up?! The pain lasts for a day or two after having sex so it's quite a big problem! Does anyone else suffer from this or know how to ease/get rid of the pain?

Hi Kate, the involuntary muscle contraction sounds unlikely to be the result of an infection. In the case of Vaginismus, the muscle reflex is often in response to a particular stimulus, usually attempted penetration or the thought of penetration. It could be stress-related too or due to discomfort from the dryness. Here's more info about Vaginismus http://pelvichealthphysio.blogspot.ca/2013/10/vaginismus-muscle-reflex-sex-pain.html.

im a 30 year old male, ive noticed over the past 4-5 years that my left chest muscle has rather quickly out grew my right chest muscle, i have done weight training in the past to try an even it out, but all that seems to happen is that the left one will benefit more than the right one, sometimes there is a bit of discomfort in the left chest muscle when im doin my day to day things, even in work whilst im working what ever im doing it feels like all the energy im using seems to be directed into the left side , im very confused about this as i just want to have a normal looking chest, can any1 help me?

Dear Ask The Doctor, i have a problem when i have an erection. When i get an erection it becomes solid like hard rubber and points upwards at about a 35 degree angle from my abdomen, this isn't the problem. The problem is when i pull my penis downward, i get a sharp pain at the base of the penis where it attaches to my pubic area, the pain feels like im tearing a muscle and feels like its about to rip. the pain starts when the penis is pulled down anything from a 40 degree angle. i've had the problem for as long as i can remember having erections but is recently becoming more painful and causing major problems with my sex life. If that penis is moved too far down during sex or oral, even rested on, the pain hits severely and i cant recover for about 3hrs. the best way to describe it is if you hold your hand straight up and your index finger being your abdomen and your thumb your penis pull your thumb down away from your index finger, the skin that stretches between, is the muscle in my pubic region that is been painfully stretched. Is there anything that could be done as this has been going on too long. Desperately hope you can help.

My husband has had a neuroma for 4 years, it's caused deafness in his right ear and growing continually. Hes had no pain but docs have now said they need to operate. He has had no pain apart from occasional headaches so I don't know if yours is the same but please keep getting it checked as we' ve been told my husband could be paralysed following surgery. Good luck!

Hi, I'm experiencing pain at the beginning of sex, it feels as if something is scratching inside and my boyfriend said he feels it too. I have felt inside and it feels like tiny bumps on the muscle as you go into the vagina?! I'm slightly concerned at this, I have an appointment with the nurse on Monday but I'm really embarrassed! I'm not having sex anymore and it's causing problems on my relationship, I'm just scared of the pain! Someone help!! Also the pain isnt due to dryness as I always ensure I am wet before we begin!

I think an STD check would be the best way to go for this just to make sure everything is healthy. Also, as for being embaressed, Nurses will see hundreds of females just like you every week, this is normal for them and they will have dealt with more embaressing problems I am sure! Seeing the nurse is defiantly the best plan of action but don't be embarressed! Good luck

Where does it hurt? In your pelvis or in your scrotum above the testicles. Does it help the pain to cradle your testicles and gently pull them away from your body. There is a muscle that goes from the testicle into the groin called the cremaster muscle. It's the muscle responsible for pulling the testes up against the body when why they disappear in cold water. Sometimes with ejaculation, especially of you are ejaculating a lot, like 2-3 times in 20mins, this muscle cramps and it really, really hurts. Try only ejaculating once and see if you get the same pain. BTW it is also likely that it is this muscle that is responsible for 'blue balls' the pain that comes from getting excited over and over and never coming and then you are in pain. Good luck, I think it likely that you are enduring the suffering that most 14 yr old boys experience. Don't worry it will go away by the time your are 45 :)

Hello, I am 22 and in the U.S. military. Sometimes after working out I get nasty pains on my wrists, back, chest, and arms. The only way that I have compensated for this is by using less weight on my right side (which is the side that is not developed)

I meant my left side. I don't know why I put right.

Hi I'm 14. I've not been diagnosed with PS but I think it could be what I have...I have a missing pec muscle on my left hand side. It's so embarassing trying to shop for underwear. I have been refered to the hospital because of the missing pec muscle. They gave me a prostithis because i'mto young to have any surgery. My mum heard about this procedure where you have fat cells or stem cells from your thigh in where the pec muscle should be and then you grow a pec muscle....does anyone know where you can have this done and how much it costs?

i'm 26 and was born missing my left pec. It sucks cuz people are so cruel when it comes to something they don't understand. Missing out on swimming, nobody has seen me with my shirt off except my doctors. It didnt stop me from joining the army though. When i was younger i remember my mother telling me about that surgery, but we never got around to it, most likely due to the costs.

hi i am 42 i stopped taking the pill about three years ago because my body just rejected it. since then my periods have been unbelievable the pain so bad i cant sit, stand, lie i dont know what to do with myself before i bleed for a few days i get cramp/muscle spasm in my one leg as a warning and with out the tablets doctor gave me the pain starts i pass out then i vomit , then after a few hours it goes on its own ,leaving me totally exhausted and feeling as though i have been run over by asteam roller then a week after that to get rid of muscular/back pain. my doctor said that it was muscle spasms and i am only to take diclofenac for three days before and three after and no more but i cant take them forever. i did ask for a hysterectamy? but was told that they have now got very strict about giving them now.

Pain relief was useless for me too. My i.h. was on the right hand side. It was painfull for about a year and a half, then eventually a lump appeared. It seems as though it had been brewing for sometime and doctors didn't know what it was. Once the lump came they could explain better that the bulge was getting slightly stuck and sending the bowel muscle into spasm which was incredibly painful. I found that taking Buscopan helped a fair amount. It's a bowel muscle relaxant normally used for people with irritable bowl syndrome. It helps by relaxing the muscle so it could pop back into place. You can buy it over the counter. Good luck.

Hello, i am 32 years old and i suffer from a wekness of muscle in my left shoulder, around the deltoid area. i am not sure whether this is from birth or if it happenned as a teenager. Either way i have tried everything including seeing top muscle and nerve specialists, had many different scans and for the past 18 months i have been using a machine that is very much like one of those electric shock muscle stimulating machines that is supposed to stimulate the nerves to build the muscle but it doesn't seem to be working. I saw the episode with Paul with Poland's syndrome and wondered whether i could have something like that in my shoulder? Please can you help? many thanks Richard

Six years ago I had reconstruction using my back muscle. Everything was fine until 18months ago when I started pain in my hip and then my ribs and 4months ago in my shoulder all down the same side as my reconstruction. I have been through the nhs system and have not been diagnosed all bloods, xrays are normal. The pain was so bad I went to see a Chiropractor who thought it was all caused by the use of the back muscle causing my body to be out of alignment. I have had one treatment and slept through the night. It is such a relief that somebody actually listened to me and gave me a reason. Because all tests were normal I felt like nobody believed me.

Hi I also have Ps. I was born with no right chest muscle and no nipple. I had an operation when I was 13,they took a muscle from my back and put it round where my right chest should be. I'm 33 now and still hate taking my shirt off in front of people. But I'm constantly in pain with back ache

Hi I have split the muscle in my right butt muscle/cheek. This happened almost 2 years ago now and is still very painful to this day, I have been to the doctors but they say nothing can be done since I have actually split the muscle in half.. Is this true or is there some way I can help it repair? Thanks

Well done on the lowering of you cholesterol! I wouldn't do any exercise that builds muscle as muscle weights more than fat so doing certain exercises may mean you gain weight but you would be gaining muscle weight. Cardio workouts are the best for weight lost :) keep up the good work, youl get there x

Hi Emma BMI simply calculates the space you take up as a being. It doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat, if you can get one of those tests where theres calipers that 'pinch an inch' (ur doctor will know the test), they can tell if they are pinching fat, skin or muscle then a calculation is done with the results and hey presto, u get a good indication of ur fat to muscle ratio! good luck!

I to have been suffering with cold hands, feet and nose!Ive been feeling quite poorly for a while now,I have ALWAYS had cold hands, then the finger tips turn purple when I get a spout of it,I dont do very well in the cold and I get restless nights. I too have been told its Reynaulds Syndrome I also have been to and from my doc with alot of muscle pain, ribpain, chest and neck. I no it sounds like alot im just very confused. I had an xray of my chest because the pain is so bad,it came back that I had a "shadow" on my left lung I was given antibiotics then repeated the xray 4 weeks later, it came back the shadow was dissappearing so that was the end of that, but for at least two years or more the muscle pain wont go and the chest/breast bone area kills at times! my doc has put it down to "Teitze syndrome" he also says I have fibromyalgia..I want all the pain to go away im only 35 (female).. single mum to two kiddies its driving me crazy,

Hi, I would suggest that you find another female doctor and explain to them about you situation, any GOOD doctor should have a look to verify if it's a prolapsed vagina, if so you are not alone and the doctor can help you. In regards to the pain, is it when you urinate? Or just in general pain at that area? If its when you urinate, you can try increase your water intake and drink more cranberry juice. For the weak bladder problem, there are some special pads at the supermarket you can buy, it's like a pad for period but special for weak bladders. You can also start learning and doing pelvic floor muscle exercises to increase your muscle strength to help with the weak bladder. Hopefully this helps!

So sorry you feel this way. I have the same condition and felt exactly the same way you did growing up.However I did luck out with a great guy who didnt care. It was all me. When I was 19 I got corrective surgery. I took out a payment plan for $5,000 back in 1999. I thought I was alone as well. The internet was fairly new then so I really did think I was all alone. I am a lot less self concious today but am still not 100% fixed. You see I opted for saline implants under the muscle. Its not as even as I would like and yes you can still tell. No I wouldnt strip in front of people I dont know. But like I said I got lucky and I have been wth my husband since we were both 14 and I am now 32. We have two beautiful sons and my breasts dont run my life anymore. However I will never forget that awful place I was in and how awful it was to have one boob be way bigger than the other and feel so deformed. I am sorry and hope you can have a procedure done and dont go under the muscle. I did it so I could breast feed and I did but under the muscle has caused me pain the entire time. good luck to you. Wish me luk too because they have been "known" to last for 20 years and mine are 13. Thanx for your post!

I have also had a masectomy and had reconstruction using back muscle and tissue, After nearly 10 years I'm in more pain than when I first had it done, I have to take strong pain killers as I can't move. The pain is so bad I wish I never had it done.. I'm sure something is not right, it feels like it's catching on a nerve, the pain takes my breath away... I was 31 years old when had a Masectomy but didn't have the reconsruction till 5 years after.
