I'm not too sure if I have tinitus and exactly for how long? The noise in my ears is like a buzzing noise not too loud and I'm not aware of it during the day, but at night when I go to sleep, I become aware of it, is it going to get worse with time and because i'm not sure since when i've had it could it be just temporary and how to deal with it if it's here to stay or get worse??

this sounds very much like tinnitus .sounds i get are running water, heartbeat,& many other strange annoying sounds.

I'm prone to ear infections (it seems my right ear takes more damage) and have the volume up on my ipod all the time. My parents have been warning me about tinnitus since I was complaining of hearing things in my ears a few months ago. My ears are very sensitive to loud noises and I've been getting a lot of headaches and earaches recently. I'm hearing things in my right ear, but the noise is rather quiet, yet it still causes me some discomfort. Is this tinnitus?

Hi There I have been a Meniers sufferer for about 8 years. This has left me with reduced hearing, for which I have hearing aids. I also suffer from Tinnitus and hyperacusis. The tinnitus manifests as a constant high pitch scream in both ears (about top C) that sounds like the screech when a child is first learning the violin. I have seen hearing therapists in two regions and the message is the same "it is something you just have to live with". I have tried noise generators, relaxation therapy and acupuncture but nothing helps. Is there no real help out there ? John

I have the same problem as you. The key is not to get the insides of your ears wet it is hard but I have had no pain for a lond time because of it. When you have been swimming or washed your hair if you just dry your ears with a hairdryer. The other thing that has helped me is I am homeaoathic treatment and after that I have had no pain or flare ups so I hope you find this usefull and that you are not alone it is very painfull

I am seventeen years old, I have had constant and recurrent ear infections in both ears for the last eleven years. My ears become blocked with thick sticky fluid which varies in colour from clear to dark brown - it oozes out overnight and often smells quite pungent. I loose hearing in both ears and they are painful to touch. I prevent all water from entering my ears by wearing silicone earplugs. The hearing loss is beginning to affect my ability to concentrate in college and I recently had to do a music exam with both ears completely blocked. The pain and oozing prevent me from sleeping (on bad days I take up to 2500mg of painkillers per day). When there is not pain there is constant itching. Recently I have started to hear a faint but constant whistling. I have had every drop, spray, and cream available (I have even been prescribed nasal cream to put in my ears). After having my ears syringed for the sixth time, I was referred to an ENT specialist who performed numerous 'Micro-Suck' treatments, but nothing can clear the infection for more that around eight days. I know that the infection is in the outer ear, but I'm not sure if there is anything in the inner ear, although a while ago it felt like my Eustachian tube was blocked. Is there anything else that I can do to either get rid of the ear infections all together, or reduce the impact that it has on my hearing?

I am 16 years old and I have a constant high pitched noise in my ears. I'm not sure how long I've had it for but I know it's been atleast 1 year. When my ears get blocked for any reason, the noise gets louder. I've gotten used to it and tend to ignore it but I really want to know what it is.

I have exactly the same. Always a high pitched noise. Like one of them mosquito things. I have it all the time. And sometimes I hear noises in my ears that aren't actually there. Like bangs and squeaks and stuff

i hear a ringing noise, ive had it for almost as long as i remember, im only a young adult nd i wouldnt consider myself to have abused my ears with music although i used to listen to my i-pod a lot on full volume, but it was no where near loud enuf surely to bring this on, i cant think wot caused it for me, i also hear like a pumping in my ears when tryin to sleep, not realy relative to my heartbeat although similiar, the other thing i find is when theres a lot of noises for my ears to filter i.e a party it causes me a short term head ache/whining noise over the top of it all which is very distracting

I've had tinnitus for a few years, mine is because I have an underactive thyroid, I'm also a musician (guitarist) in a rock band. I always use earplugs in loud environments. I feel like my tinnitus is getting worse - my ears are so sensitive to noise, the ringing gets louder with stress. I used to go to gigs without earplugs before I had tinnitus and came home and my ears were ringing deafeningly loud. I've seen a doctor, I know that there's no cure but I need some more techniques (I mask the noise at night with White noise from an untuned radio station). I don't want tinnitus to prevent me from pursuing a career in music (I try not to let it get in the way)

This could be caused by tinnitus. Like a ringing noise in your ears? I get that sometimes. I put it down going to gigs and the music is just unnecessarily loud. This is in a lot of clubs now a days. All those warnings about your ears being damaged by loud noises (phones, ipods etc.) are there for a reason. If it is seriously bothering you, go to your doctor. Please don't be embarrassed by seeing them, they have seen everything under the sun and are there to help you. Promise. :)

i get this same high picthed noise in my ear but it only happens when everything is silent ANY IDEAS :~(

Since I met my boyfriend nearly 4 years ago hr has deemed to suffer with his ears in the past year he has been to the doctors on numerous accounts to see about them. He cleans his ears quite often an on the cotton bud is a brown tar like substance which smells disgusting its as though it collects in his ear and if he doesn't clean them regularly if you sit near enough to him you can smell his ear. It also leaks a brownish yellow liquid mostly in the night which goes on his pillow. Not only this his hearing seems to be impaired you can be sat next to him and he cannot hear you he is only 20 I will add and his ears continuously make a crackling noise inside the doctors give him anti biotic which don't seem to help and also ear drops which seem to do nothing. When he went to see the nurse to have his ear suringed he was told there was no need as nothing was wrong with his ears however I fail to believe this as his symptoms persist please help :)

I have a high pitched squealing in both my ears. And in my right ear i have a constant dull ache. The doctor sent me to the ENT clinic where they tested my ears and had an MRI scan. That came back negative. The doctor has said nothing else, but I still have the noise and the ache. What should I do?

Hi my name is Dennis i read your comment about your hearing loss, and i can assure you iam in the same bout has you,I am getting constant hissing noise,I have been to the ent spcscialist, thye looked at my ears, and said i have an infection in my ears, I dont know whats causing it , but its constant, and its depressing also,I wish i could give you an positive answear why we have all these problems , but I cant you are younger than me, you should be in your prime of health , hope you get better soon, and make a full recovery.

I suffer with tinnitus for the last couple of years. I feel the program made out that once you have that is it and there is no cure although there is help and it can dissapear on its own. Inside the ear drum it is a very noisy place with all kinds of sounds and normally everyone is habituated to these noises , now when you get a cold or infection or even loud noise there is a compensatory system of the ears to adjust to protect the ears (ie disco tinnitus) and sometimes you can pick up on it. When you hear it you will get concerned and think its a problem like am i going deaf or something and then concentrate on it. because it is not a noise you normally hear your brain can focus onit and then hear it more and more. There is Tinnitus Retraining Therapy that can teach you brain to habituate to it so you no longer hear it. I have to say it can drive you up the wall as it is with you 24/7 the best site i found to understand it is www.tinnitus.org and this explains what it is. I hope this helps as this is a very dabilitating illness that has somewhat been ignored by our medical proffession because it is more to do with the brains limbic system than a fault with in the ear itself. I hope this helps.

i am 13 aswell and i get the same - just a siren like noise occasionally for a short while, i have had some problems in the past with my ears but i didn't think this was anything to worry about

I'm 18. This sounds alot like what I used to have and what I sometime get now. When I was alot younger I could hear low beating in both my ears and it would increase in level and decrease, I always asked others if they could hear it but they couldn't. Mum just told me it was what my insides sounded like. I can also make a long deep noise in my ears by straining something in my head, I have no idea how I do it. When I was younger I never listened to loud music and I'm always carefull of the volume of my mp3 player so It's not loud noises that has caused it.

I also get beating in my left ear only, that started when I was pregnant and had very high blood pressure. My blood pressure is now normal but I still get this throbing in my left ear and I also feel pressure on that ear. I have found that stress or sitting with my head turned to the left triggers it. May be worth while getting your blood pressure checked.

Hi i have been hearing a ringing noise in both ears for about 3 months. I can still hear fine its just really annoying it gets worse at night when watching t.v or trying to sleep. can you help?

Yeah, its just a slight drop in blood pressure around your ears, do you feel kind of dizzy or see stars? Just get up more slowly and nothing should happen

I find it helpful to concentrate on breathing in and out deeply and slowly to relax myself. Another thing I sometimes do is say the Thunderbirds countdown in my head to encourage my bladder to hurry up and empty!!! And lastly, I may shut my ears to block out the background noise of the public loo.
