Conditions with symptom: 'obsession'
I'm 17 years old - female - and since I was about 13/14 I've had an uncontrollable obsession with plucking out body hair. It started with the first time I plucked my eyebrows, that was fine for a while, but it's almost like I became addicted to the sensation of pulling out hairs. I plucked out nearly all of my eyebrows and soon moved onto my eyelashes. When people asked I told them that I had reacted to a mascara which made my eyelashes fall out.. When people started noticing -I mean really noticing- I managed to move the obsession onto my leg hair. I got red spots and lumps from digging the hairs out when they hadn't grown properly. Eventually I managed to move it to my pubic hair.. I can't get rid of the obsession from there. I sit, hunched up, for HOURS digging and ripping out hairs that haven't even grown back in. I use small scissors and needles to get to the short hairs and there doesn't seem to be any way to control it. Along with back pains my 'privates' look awful, all red lumps and scabs and it completely destroys my confidence. I honestly don't know what to do. As well as this, I have an obsession with squeezing spots and blackheads on my face. Again, I can spend hours right up close to the mirror attacking my face until it's all red and blotchy and painful, trying to get something out of every pore. This only happens once or twice a week but it makes me feel awful and once I start I really can't stop. Nobody knows about ANY of this and i'm really suffering. Should I go to the doctors about it..? I've tried just stopping using will power but I genuinely can't..
I'm not sure if this will help, but you're not alone. Take a look at www.stoppickingonme.com, it might help, it might not. Hope it does.
go to the doctors. the hair pulling thing is called trichotillomania and is so much more common than you'd think - it's an impulse control disorder in much the same way that skin picking is. things like cbt and medication can really, really help.
I have an obsession with smelling my fingers after I've come into contact with something that isn't mine. It's not something that particularly affects me but i do it all the time. Is this OCD?
My boyfriend does this too. Only his has to do with when he touches body parts like his neck, arms, ears, legs, etc. I have never seen any indication of that happening in reference to any southern body parts. (if ya get my meaning) It actually kind of grosses me out but I understand after being with him for nearly a year that it is just something he does and it is on a regular basis. He seems to try to hide it and when asked about it he says it's to make sure he doesn't stink. I told him that the best solution for that if there is any question is to take a shower. He showers on a daily basis so I know he doesn't smell but he does it even when he is clean. I want to help him and be understanding but I do not want him to embarrass himself in front of others by doing it. I have no idea what to do either and it is very frustrating. I understand where you are coming from on this and from what I understand it can be related to OCD, Tourettes, anxiety and other possible psychological disorders.
im a 15 year old girl, and like most teenagers i have acne on my forehead and cheeks. but my main problem is that i squeeze my spot and skin - its like an obsession, i literally cannot stop myself from doing it, and afterwards i get really angry at myself for it. I dont know what to do about it, its embarrassing so i havent told anyone about it. Is there anyone who can help me on this? please
Do I have OCD? I have to do things in routines for example when i have a bath I have to wash the bath out twice leaving the bathroom in between and have to have to do everything in an order. If someone messes up my order I become very anxious. I also seem to have an obsession with even numbers... I don't know what to do?

I have an obsession with chewing things, since I was tiny, plastic, metal (in fact I was once in hospital for having swallowed an earring) my fingernails, I've taken to pulling out strands of hair and chewing them(and swallowing), for a couple of years now, sometimes from my head, but especially my eyelids, it's becoming obvious, I'm 19 now but when I was younger I was a self harmer... are they connected?
