Hi I've had on off problems with my bowels for a couple of years now but recently I have become reliant on laxatives to help open my bowels. Over the last few months I have been getting a sharp pain in the left side of my neck when I eat food, feel constipated or open my bowels. I feel silly going to my gp because they probably think im always moaning about either stomach pains or constipation. I recently have had surgery on my ovaries and o am wondering if this could of caused the pain in my neck? Any tips or advice would be grateful

I have not open my Bowles for 10 days now I took 10 sachets of movical last night but still no movement but not getting any pain

Gastro Stasis is part and parcel of my migraines, my mother's , grandmother's etc. A 3 day attack = 3 days without the loo :-( Imagine using your loo for 3 days and not flushing ! it's pretty full. There are other terms gastroparesis etc . The only way I found to cope is plenty of fluids and very little solid because I just keep bloating and the pain get's worse. My doctor gave me triptan that melts in the mouth as anything that would be absorbed in my stomach is not as effective. If you have any co-morbid conditions with your migraine and are taking regular med's best to ask your doctor if it is Stasis / IBS and make sure your other medication absorption is ok. T:-)

I think I have bashful Bowels... I am 17 years old and for the passed few months I have been finding i very difficult to have a poo when people are near, even my mum. So if I hear people moving around going about their own business outside the bathroom, i can't have a poo. Even if i can hear my mum talking on the phone in the other room! It's really getting annoying because I have to be on the loo for aaaages before anything comes out. How can I overcome this?? Plz help! Thanx

i used to have that, still do sometimes when im feeling not so confident, especially when on holiday! i just have to remind myself everyone does it, so dont be embarrassed!! you need to be relaxed and comfortable.

I had a small lump appear right next to my anus & I could feel & hear liquid moving around just under the skin, this then went painful. After a few days it must of popped & some clear/yellowish liquid came out & the pain / lump slowly vanished but still felt a little tender. After a few more days everything was fine but the lump was still there but smaller, I have now felt the liquid moving round again where the lump is under the skin & up to now there is no pain. Any ideas?

I used to have exactly the same symptoms. I have since had an ovary removed because of severe endo and am soon going to be having a hysterectomy as I too love sport and my stomach pains interfere with that. I am only 32 but have already kids so to me , this is the best option. Good luck

Hi when my bowels pass and I clean myself, but about 3 times a day i need to go back to the toilet not to empty my bowels but to clean myself as it seems that i ain't cleaned properly (but i know i have the first time) seems like my bowels leak without me knowing, it also smells bad, is there any thing i can do for this problem? i was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis a few years back but that only caused me to go to hospital two or three times in 10 years.

When I have the urge to use my bowels I usually get a lot of stomach pain it feels like I can feel the stool moving down my intestine is this normal, the pain makes me double over sometimes and like a stabbing pain. My stools are normal in colour and shape though sometimes large stools.

Hi,i am very very concerned about my bowels? if it is that? for about 4 - 5 months i have been suffering from an everday dull ache, and sometimes excruciating pain,on my right side of my stomach. was examined at the time, the doctor said it was just a spasm in my bowels.the nearest i can explain the pain to is a stitch? I have bought over the counter medication, for ailments associated with the bowels(ie)wind etc, nothing has worked. My mother has suffered with bowels ailments for years, nearly died on one occasion. Do not have faith in my local doctors, because the doctors are changing on a weekly basis. Good advice would greatly be appreciated.

Hi mandy i think any pain or ailment thats internal is always a concern. Doctors never seem to give us a straight answer, or they try and fob us of. i will be going back to doctors. goodluck on friday and hope they get to the bottom of your ailment'

I've had Ibs for about 10 years now. It got better in my pregnancies- however straight after-agony again. I find onion is my worst food. Also dairy products- especially milk & cream effect me. White bread also makes me have so much pain. Too many sweet things - like cakes, chocolate biscuits & sweets irritate me and i've had to cut down on tea & coffee as they seem to effect me- trying to have green tea now - but make sure you take the bag out after been in 2 mins- otherwise it's awful! I have started having Fybogel- ( mix a sachet with a small amount of water)on a morning & after tea & it does help a little. I manage to go to the toilet just about every day- but do feel like more still stuck inside. If I do miss a day then I do tend to go 2 or 3 times the next day. It does give me pain, backache,I bloat & my stomach moves about on an evening- because I'm thin I can see my bowels moving about! It also makes me feel lethargic- but if I keep walking & moving about it does help - so make sure you get exercise instead of putting your feet up- helps to move! I've suffered a bout of thrush lately & everytime I feel bunged up now it brings it on- fed up with it & doctors just think I'm a hypercondriac!

Hello, I find it hard to regulary go to the loo (poo). I seem to be only passping a poo like once/twice a week. This oviously isn't good for me. I dont eat rubbish food, it is very balanced, i've been trying to put on weight so been eating more, but it was like this before I started to try and put on weight. I've now stop trying to put on weight for the sake of my bowels, and trying to eat healthier in the hope it will get my bowls moving! It still hasnt helped but im trying to keep up with the healthier eating to help it, and im drinking lots of water, yet still doesnt help. I cant keep relying on senakot tablets to get my bowels going. Im worried if i keep up this healthier eating, it will make me drop weight. My BMI is 16.8% at the mo, and it just seems like a viscous cycle, and is really getting me down. Please help

i have suffered with this for 6 years and i suspect it's ibs. bloating after certain foods such as chips, white pasta, white rice well anything to do with carbs, sometimes a pain in my stomach about 10 minutes after i have eaten something that doesn't agree with me. and when i need to open my bowels i always get a pain in my lower abdomen which only stops when i have opened my bowels, also i never have a "normal" bowel movement, i am often very loose but if i am not, then i am constipated?

I have problems moving my bowels I can go up to 4/5 days without having a motion and there is blood in the stools. I have been into hospital to check for piles, which I don't have and they recommended I try to keep the stools soft by eating better which I have tried to do but I still have the same issue. Can you suggest something to try and make me more regular? Thanks

I have been told that I have IBS after going into hospital and having the usual TV inserted inside me (I think it's an endoscopy). Because my Colon was contracting when it shouldn't have done they said it is definately IBS. However, I also notice that when my bowels are full I am constantly going to the loo during the night and day, but as soon as I empty my bowels I do not go to the loo as much. I drink water, eat fruit and veg etc etc. The only thing that makes me open my bowels is the Dulocolax tablets which I try not to take too regular. I had an hysteroctomy aprox 18 years ago and this is when it all started. Could my bladder be fused to my bowels? Only a suggestion because my Doctor seems to think the waterworks is due to stress incontinance!!

i have been tested for all sorts of intolerances and such like and found nothing. I generally suffer from constipation, wind and sometimes diaorhea. After many years of stressing and worrying about it in social situations i have now been back and forward to the doctors relentlessly and he put me on Movicol and colpermin tablets, once you find a balance with them it definatly helps. I found that onc emy bowels are moving more it seems to take the stress ou tof it a bit more. Im by no means normal i would say but it has helped. Give it a go ibs sufferers. If you are mainly plagued by loose bowels i wouldnt use the movical. It doesnt make you go like alaxitive but it is a stool softner. The Colpermin is meant to open once in the intestines (entric coated) and relieve gas and calm and sooth your insides. Hope this helps.

Is it possible for IBS to be connected to your menstrual cycle? I'm a 20 year old female and have had started noticing over the last few months that my bowels behave oddly whenever I get my period. The symptoms are exactly the same as IBS and I've suspected IBS for a while, but I was wondering if anyone has heard of it happening because of periods? I've always had bad cramps since I was about 12 but recently they're getting worse than I remember and I think it's my bowels that cause this pain. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks.

Hi Leanna, Unfortunately, yes. IBS can be linked to your monthly cycle. I have severe IBS and rarely sail through my monthly cycle. Bowels become looser/faster and can cause more pain. Great eh!

Hi, I'm 34 + am waiting on surgery (only 6 weeks now! Yay!). I have a triple compartment prolapse + an intussusception. I am wondering whether you too may have an intussusception + rectocele (not being a doctor or knowing your full symptoms these are clearly only my own thoughts), when I initially sought help from gp I was in chronic pain down there, barely able to sit + couldn't empty my bowels without pain. It has been a year now since seeing my gp + now although I still have pain + difficulties going to the toilet it is no where near as bad/often due to a my womens health physio who has helped me learn to relax my muscles down there to help stop the spasms + has taught me a new way to empty my bowels by using your diaphram to push it out (really difficult to master but got there after a month or so). Hope this has helped.

For the pass 3 years my bum as been very itichy and ever time i open my bowel it really hurts and there's quite alot of blood... About 18 months ago i when into hospital because i couldn't sit down... it felt like my bowels had push there way out... I had 3 operations in the space of 2 weeks... it felt ok for a couple of weeks but the pain and the blood soon came back again... it constantly feels like i have a dead bum cheek and it itich's like mad every minute of every day... And since i had the operations i have a really sensitive bit on my bum that feels like a little hard pea that makes my eyes water with pain if i touch it... I've notice when i open my bowels my intestine's comes out about an inch and a half and causes me a really sharp shooting pain... My diet is quite balanced so my stool is quite soft but i dread going to the toilet because of the pain it causes me... Can anyone help me please?...

Hi, I have had a problem with my bowels since Jan last year, I constantly get loose bowels. Sometimes the pain is agonising before I need to'go' and some times I get constant back ache! I feel nauseous most of the day. I take domperidone, Lansoprazole, Dicycloverine and co-codamol to relieve the discomfort! I have seen a gastroenterologist who said I had IBS and functional dyspepsia but has run no tests (was refused a Endoscopy as he didn't think I had cancer!) I also get a lot of pain in my upper right abdomen, I had a scan to rule out gall stones or gall bladder problems, so my GP thinks its my liver! Is this all connected and do you agree with the diagnosies? Im 24 female and diabetic!

Hi, I have a similar story to tell! Suffered with constipation for many years which gradually worsened over time to the point I would sometimes go 2 weeks without moving bowels, having been told many times I just had a lazy bowel by GP's I eventually asked for a referral to a consultant. After basic investigations I got referred to St Marks hospital in Harrow which specialises in bowel conditions. They tried biofeedback (bowel retraining basically!) which didn't work but eventually it was decided that I would do water enema's to empty my bowels. I have to say this has been a lifesaver, I still get constipated but at least once it's moved low down I can shift it with little discomfort. They also advised I don't have too much fibre as it just bulks everything up and makes it harder to pass, this has also proved good advice. I wish I had pushed for this referral sooner as I now have the first stage of a rectal prolapse due to straining over the years. Hope this helps someone!

i can not go to the toilet and even with laxatives it's not moving anything. i have been to the doctors over this who prescribed me these laxatives and liquids. i have to manouver it out manually by inserting my fingers up my vagina and pushing it out that way. my backside seems to have closed up so trying to go to the toilet is very painful and can rip the skin so it bleeds. i am worried as i know bowels can collapse. i can also get very uncomfortable pains in the stomach
