Is it possible to tell if there is arthritis in the hips by just prodding the painful joints, and can the doctor accertain how much pain it is causing? Or can only a scan or bone density test tell?

Hi Sandra No it isn't, I have had arthritis for 16 years (I am 32) and have osteoarthritis as a result. Joints with RA tend to be swollen and hot but you will need a blood test to diagnose it. Osteo arthritis will need an xray or MRI to see if there is damage to the joint. The pain could be caused by all sorts of things so you do need a test.

Can ET also cause pain in the joints? I got diagnosed last year with essential tremor, and i noticed I get pain in my joints before the shakes come, but as i am taking propranlol to stop the pain i am just getting the pain..is this normal? Also using a raised mouse on the computer is hurting my hand. could this be due to ET

Hi I am 24 year old. Since I started puberty my breasts have always been low down. They have never been pert and my nipples rest on my stomach. I look like an 80 year old. It makes me feel very self conscious. I can't wear any tops without wearing a nra. I have a problem with ligaments around my joints (they are loose and my joints are prone to dislocating,) and I was wondering if this might be the problem with my breasts and if there was anything I could do about them. Thanks x

Toni,... joints are the issue?? which joints?? I cant see how it would effect, but I not a medical person, and you could be on to something here as for reasoning... Go and see a Doctor, find one you are comfortable with and discuss this issue.. You are young 24 and you don't want to waste anymore of you life worrying about this.. Tops without bra's,you ask Toni?, that is a hard ask of any woman that is over a size a/b cup ... Toni, they have tape you can use to perk up your breasts under clothing, allot of the fashion industry people use it... You should go to a GP, this at least will give you information, options, direction and feeling of well being as you feel you are doing something positive about yourself.. You wont get things done or fixed in life, that goes with all issues, if you just leave it inside your mind/head.. No windows there, sunshine cant get in.. take care.. :)

Does the pill affect joints? Ive taken the pill for 3 months and my ankle has been painful for about 2 months. Please help!!!

Hi, Im 31 and have just had a bone density scan due to being on the depo for 5yrs. I have started to get a constant ache in my hips, which sometimes goes down my legs and my right hip cracks. I was in a lot of pain with my left hip a few week ago and the doctor told me I had sprained it. I can only describe it as if the bone is the problem and not the leg, a sharp pain.

I seem to constantly get mouth ulcers and always have joints pains, I have been to the doctors on several occassions since I was about 16 and seen different doctors too but they just seem to think it's growing pains. I'm now 18going on 19 in august and the joint pains seem to be worse and now in my hips knees and ankles, it's sometimes soo painful it gives way or I cannot walk properly please help as it's affecting my teenage years!

im 13 and my joints always click since last year. It started of just being my hands but now nearly everywhere clicks. My jaw, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, thighs, knees, ankles and toes. And sometimes my ribs, collarbone and throat pop. It isnt painful, but can ache and feel uncomftable. I've had blood tests and all have come back negative to osteoarthritis. I've seen my Gp and he says i will grow out of it, but it's just getting worse. What else could it be, and should i be worried?

I am 32 and have benign joint hypermobility syndrome. I have found that most of my joints click 10-20 times a day. Some of these joints end up being painful and I have to click them manually or the pain gets worse. Is there anything that can be done to help this except taking painkillers and anti-inflammatories?

Have you tried seeing a nutritionist? A good one can advise on which foods help against inflammation, fatigue, etc, etc. For me,wheat and dairy foods are a problem. If I avoid them, the pain in my joints from RA is noy so bad. If I do eat them, I have stiff, painful joints and am constantly tired, just like ME. I am 63 years old.

Hi, my son is now 13 and for 3 years he has suffered from painful joints. It started with pain in his heels which then moved to his ankles, knees, wrists, hips etc. After taking him to the doctors he saw a consultant who told us that he is suffering from growing pains and not juvenile athritis which affects most of his joints, explaining that the anchors to the tendons become inflamed and painful. I have been told to give him paracetamol and he should grow out of it. He was never given a blood test but he is always in pain somewhere on his body. Might go back for a 2nd opinion as it seems to be getting worse. Thanks

I am 42 and now 18.5 stone . I put on circa 4 stone this year due to being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and to help get mobility back ive had 5 intramuscular steroid injections this year hence the additional weight I can't move! Please help, as the extra weight (of course does not help my joints). I was previously very active with 60+ hour job, lost it through my lack of mobility . I swim 4 times a week which helps my joints but does not impAct weight loss? Dr Christian advised on today's show that you are looking for people in my situation ( or similar). I would really appreciate help! X I can't go to gym and run for other exercise due to painful joints and with not working, it's difficult to eat healthily all the time. Kind regards

Hi, I've had clicking joints for a very long time and while I know the clicking isn't an issue, it's my knees. These can get very painful and the pain will often stop if I sit down and click them. However, it can be very painful to walk and they won't always click. Could this be anything other than the build up of gas in the joint capsule? Also, I get very painful hips when horse back riding.

Since having breast cancer, which I am now clear of, I have had to come off hrt, its been nearly a year and I am due a check up. The problem I am having is that in the last few months I have developed really aching joints, to the point I felt like a cripple, the Dr has given me and anti depressent which I cannot pronounce to relax my joints or muscels to ease the pain, it has helped me some but I am still in real pain in my joints some days, and feel like an old lady, this does nothing for my self esteem as I am a very active and outgoing person, I belive it is due to me coming off hrt, as I cannot have it any more can you suggest an alternative, I am using black cohoss, but this is not as good as hrt, and what do I do when the onset of dry virginalness happens ?

im 17 years old and for a few years now i have suffered from problems with my joints. in 2009 i went to my GP and explained that my thumbs kept locking up every morning i wake up and also when i write or draw. he referred me to Newham hospital, where i was told the name but completely forgot the name now, and was also told that it will gradually spread throughout my joints and that if it reaches my spine or neck, it can cause discomfort. i was told surgery was an option but the problem should fade and go soon. three years later i cannot rotate my wrist without it creaking and hurting, if i bend or cross my legs its very hard and painful to stretch them out again, my toes always click when i bend them and i suffer from very bad back pain. i am worried as i am only 17 and i worried that this will affect me in the future...

speak to doctor about hypermobility. I was diagnosed over 10 year ago when i was 17, often genetic i think, based on missing protein between liagaments in joints, something like that anyway!.Many sufferers are quite flexible and knee and elbow joints often bend further back than straight( Bowed back slightly) That was some of the things my gp looked for when I was diagnosed. I suffer mainly in hips and back. Joints click unexpectedly or lock up and am forced to click them. Also experience near constant dull aches and unexpected sharp pains. Excersise is supposed to help, physio in more serious cases. I neglected to follow early advice and suffer for it now! so worth mentioning it to gp. Hope that helps.

Hi, I'm 17 years old and get bad pain in both knees after standing/sitting for any length of time. The joint often creaks too, and I often pop varoius joints (knees, ankles, back, neck etc.) whenever I move...is this a case of JIA? And what could I do to stop the pain in the joints? I also have Raynaud's Syndrome. Are they related in any way?

my friend lost all her nails on her toes & fingers, she then had to have her nails on both feet & hands dressed & redressed every couple of days. When the took the dressings off there was a vile smell coming from the nails. In the end she lost a couple of joints on her finger & thumb. The consultants thought she had e. bullosa with one or two test they ruled it out. But didnt do any further tests on the nails. Know she has nails growing back but they split & come off with the slightest knock & she back to square one with red nails beds where the nail has come away. The joints which she lost has never come back & wondered if it was anything to do with a different nail condition, as she cant figure out how the joints just disapeared. could it be another nail disorder.

I am the same i am 23 and started with knee pain my joints crunch and click when walking the burning pain is really getting to me over the last three years it seems to have started affecting my hips and shoulders my joints are terrible i am in constant pain. The doctors that i have seen have fobed me off not taking me seriously.

Hey Megan, Im 16 and for the past few years all my joints have been aching and i can feel them creak and when i put my ear to my hand at night i can also hear my fingers, wrists and neck creak. My joints click all day long (especially my ankles in the morning.)I thought it could've been arthiritis so i went to my doctor and she said that i might just have Hypermobility syndrome but has booked xrays for my neck just to check. i think maybe u might have that too? X

I'm only 13, this has been happpening since about the age of 11. Everytime I walk a load cracking sound comes from my ankles, toes and knees. recently it had started affecting all my joints so when I move I constantly 'Click'. The Click is very loud and painful. I have been to the local GP and hospital many times and yet it is still a mystery to the reasons. I'm currently taking a course of Physiotherapy. Does this sound like anything to you? it's very painful and is a barrier on some stuff I can do as I'm training in athletics and struggling with the pain of running..even walking. If you could help it would be much apprecitated!

I have this too and i am 13yrs too 'I' think it is arthritis but am not sure cuz i havent even been checked out because my mum wont let me go.. :( it really hurts as well

Hi Rheanna, It's Chloe here. The definition of our issue comes under 'hyper-mobility' my problems mainly come from being too flexible. It's not arthritis according to my GP, although when I'm older it could create it. Me and my parents would advise your mum takes you too the GP as it can lead to serious implications in your bones. My GP was very useful, he passed me onto other doctors and specalist and like i said before I have physiotherapy, and I have to start another course of treatment soon, believe me although it's still quite painful at the moment it's slowly starting to show signs of improvement including less clicking. Hope this helps.

Please does anyone know of a specialist in the north of England. I had a bullseye rash bout 6 years ago, after 3-4 years of pain in joints I pursuaded GP to do a Lymes test that came back negative. However I now have swollen joints, constant tiredness and my hearing is reduced to the point of needing hearing aids, I am 52 years old. I need to go private as the GP won't do anything else

I am the same my doctor won't do the test I have bad joint pain no strength in my lower body can't see well and can't remember any thing I was bitten with a tic 8years ago and don't now no wot todo about it

I've had one that is right in the middle of the ball if my foot under my big toe. I've had it for most of my life. A good 17 years! And I've tried nearly everything to get rid of it. It's painful and seeing as I've grown up with it its affected my joints and my knee as I've compensated for the pain. I've tried freezing it at the doctors, banana skin, had duck tape over it for 6 months and did something at first then nothing improved. I've tried iodine and salisylic acid. I've had it electrocuted by a chiropodist. I've tried getting drunk and digging it out!! But that was too painful and I've even had nightmares about it! But now I'm trying this apple cider vinegar. It is really painful though. It makes the entire ball of my foot throb. Has anyone tried this before? And why does it make it throb and ache so much? If it's been there for such a long time also how deep is the root of this thing? It hurts even when I'm not treating it but I've also been told that you can't have it cut out by a doctor.
