Conditions with symptom: 'passing wind'
Hi I recently started to pass blood a lot when I go for a poo and I have stopped passing regular hard stools. It is now all watery and I'm full of wind. Been like it for 2 weeks now but never had a problem before. I am a healthy 25 year old but concerned and embarrassed on what to do about it as its just come on. I can't pass wind now either for fear of passing a form of discharge! What's it likely to be?? Many thanks
Hey, I would firstly say seeing your GP is best. However I think your mention of "hard stools" suggests you may be chronically constipated, stools are supposed to be well formed but soft. If you find you normally strain a bit when you pass a stool this could also be a sign. The bleeding is most likely to be a symptom of haemorrhoids, do you feel slight pain, especially if you have to strain? The trapped wind is also a giveaway that you may be slightly constipated. I am a healthy female of the same age and had the same problem, I typically passed hard stools then I experienced passing loose stools on occasion and trapped wind. I had a general check up and my doctor kindly informed me that I was "full of poo"! I was advised to use mild laxatives or prunes. The best way to combat the problem is to ensure you have enough fibre and drink 8 cups of water a day. Also I squeeze some lemon juice into tepid water and have that first thing in the morning, that helps me. But again, sudden changes and the presence of blood in your stools suggest you should see a GP to get absolute peace of mind. Hope that was somewhat helpful.
i went travelling earlier on this year, for the last 2 weeks before i came home i suddenly stopped going to the loo for a poo, passed nothing ever since end of march other than slimy bloody stools with mucus, not had 1 solid poo, full of wind and stomach cramps, and on passing wind it smells like hell, had pile cream and and cortisone cream thinking it could be piles or an anal fissure, feels like i have a lump the size of a fist up my backside and constantly in pain, any answers, help, its making my life a misery
Did you go to Dom Rep I have just come back from there same symptoms GP gave me METRONIDAZOLE said I had a Bug seems to be getting back to normal, Still very windy but at least my poo is looking better Give it a go Goodluck
I was fascinated by this article and feel that I could have this condition. I have never gone to the toilet regularly but since having children, and piles, and also being on anti-depressants, I can go a week maybe without passing a stool. And then it's so small, it's not really worth it! If I take laxatives it may start to help but as soon as I stop, it goes back to as before. Sometimes passing a stool is very painful and can take ages. Recently I have had a lot of wind in my bowel movements and have begun to feel as if the poo is not all coming out but getting stuck somewhere. I get bloated in the left hand side of my stomach. I want to see my GP about this but can't remember the name of the condition you talked about on the programme.
I cannot go to the toilet for a poo without taking picolax each weekend, think that my bowels have become lazy--it all began when I had a baby and the injection in the spine 28 yrs ago. I have had investigations in every orifice but they come back ok. at about 3pm each day at work the passing of wind begins and its not pleasant or ladylike--friends have commented that I fart louder longer and smell like any bloke. not something to be proud of. as I get older the control of the wind is difficult, bending, moving etc not good. I eat my 5 aday fruit and veg normally tried to cut out bread but now ITS A PROBLEM will charcoal tablets help(friend advice) please help I have had gall bladder removed, hysterectomy and breast cancer, discectomy ----I also feel that I have permanent bad breathe.
hi im type 2 diabies im on tabs since changing my metforin tabs 8mths ago i have been experiencing problems with my bowels when ever going to the toilet or passing wind it has a terrible smell and is very inbarrassing only since taken metformin mr 1000 mg twice aday
Hello, check to make sure that you are prescribed Metformin SR, i.e the slow release version.
I have been suffering with excessive wind since i have had my baby 12 months ago is there something which could have caused this during child birth because i never suffered before this, now i have no control over when i pass wind as though perhaps some muscles have been damaged is this possible? if i cough i pass wind at the same time it is really embarrasing.

I am age 58 & female. I have had 10 children, my last were twins born @ 26+ wks the 2nd baby was help out by the Dr putting her hand up into my cervix & grabbing baby who was then born in his sac. My youngest are age 4 now. I go to the toilet every day may be twice as the 5 lil-ones come looking for me & bang on the door or barge in, so have to go a 2nd time t finish the job. These last few weeks i have had a few episodes of unexpected Diarrhea on passing wind. I had no pains in my stomach or no feeling of needing to go to the toilet, just felt a need to pass wind & OMG & i mean a lot. I know its not a tummy bug as if i go later on the same day i have normal stools. Could this be that i am on thyroxine & over medicated at mo as my THS was only 0.1, i am also on T3 & took 20mg 2 hrs before the blood test, but even if its the cause of my Diarrhea i should know if i am going to have a belt of the trots. I think i may also have a prolapse of womb as when i had a cough virus a few weeks back i could feel something coming down followed by a pool of urine. I am good usually at holding on to have a pee, but if i am bursting, its when i get into the toilet at this point it is hard to control.
