I often have to push out my poop by inserting my finger into my vagina. It's like the poop is stuck and building up and pressing against the vaginal wall. I worry that my partner can feel it when we have sex, but I'm more worried about the health implications. Do you think this could be a prolapsed rectum or prolapsed vagina? I have had no children and I am 34 years old.

alison, i have had the same problem since i had my second child in 2000, i have never seen the doctor about it and have just put up with it for all this time, i kinda though i was the only person who had to do this! it has just became the norm for me... even though it is far from normal!have you been to see a doctor? i have thought about it, but was embarrassed :( its good to know im not the only one! i would really like to get it sorted out, maybe now that we have shared it with each other we should share it with the doctor and get it sorted out.

Hi Alison & Laura, I'm the same. I'm 25 and have suffered for a number of years. I have recently had a baby and it gotten much worse. Not sure which one it would be classed as but now I have seen this I will be visiting my doctor first thing on Monday to sort it out.

I just found out after 12 years, just by reading this article that I have a prolapsed rectum. It has bothered me before when going number 2, but I never thought much else of it. I am a 17 year old male and I just found this out. It now concerns me a lot. How do I get help? Also, I feel very messed up in the rectal and lower intestine area. I feel an uncomfortable numbness in the upper back area inside my rectum randomly every day. This greatly worries me. Is it a tumor? How do I find out?? Please help.

go to your doctor NOW! It has only gotten worse... and will only get worse. You will probably need an operation- which is fine in comparison with what you are going through now.

Hello Michelle, Greetings from the States I am your age and just underwent surgery for a prolapsed rectum and bladder. I have never had a child. I feel like strangling your doctors for being so insensitive! You should never have to suffer like this. Please find another doctor for a second opinion preferably a gynecologist who performs this type of surgery or a proctologist who is a surgeon as well. In addition to your condition to being painful, being unable to have a bowel movement is dangerous. Until you see someone you may want to try a stool softener as directed. I wish I could do more to help you.

Hi, I'm a 27 year old female with no children. I have a small internal bulge between my vagina and anus. It doesn't hurt and is firm to touch, I only feel it when I go to the toilet and clean myself. It feels raised as I wipe. Could this be internal piles or could it be a prolapsed rectum?

Go to a doctor at once - something that is firm to touch is more concerning than something soft and fleshy. It needs investigating.

a couple of weeks ago, i had a sharp pain whenever i went to the toilet, like half my rectum was missing. i felt a hard lump inside my rectum, which i though was the cause. The lump has now gone, but i haven't been to the toilet for about 5 days, and whenever i pass wind, i bleed from my rectum....... Any ideas?

This sounds like piles caused through straining. I'd buy some haemorrhoid cream, drink more water and eat more fibre.

I have multiple bowel movements throughout the day. The stools are thin, sometimes they have one side which is angular rather than round. I never feel that my rectum is completely empty and my vagina hurts after I have defecated, as though it were somehow attached to the rectum. I am kept awake at night by the pain from both vagina and rectum. Alternatively, if I have diarrhoea instead, my vagina then feels as though it is being stung by stinging nettles and I am unable to walk for the rest of the day.

Hey. I'm 23 with no kids or anything and I have exactly the same symptoms as you and I have been through all the tests (colonoscopy, defecating proctogram, anal manometry etc.) They concluded that I have rectal prolapse and rectocele, which basically means the rectum is prolapsing into the vagina. It can be fixed. In my case it looks like I'm having ventral rectopexy. Don't panic and look online forever until it gets worse, which is exactly what I did. Just go to the doctor go through the motions and they'll sort it out. Definitely too uncomfortable to carry on living with my love!

I have this condition and feel like a freak, I often have to push on my perineum or scoop the poo out in order to empty my bowels, however I dont think my rectum has actually prolapsed as I dont feel it all the time or have any pain, I just cant poo normally!!!! Is there a name for this condition? Or do I have a prolapsed rectum if I need to 'help myself' poo??? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, you should get this checked out. I am male and 30 years old. I did have a rectal prolapse and before it was diagnosed was diagnosed with IBS, and in time it turned out to be strange symptoms similar to IBS but was the build up to the prolapse condition. I can relate to the embarrasing side...its not pleasant showing a doctor, and I had uncontrollable wind at times, often really bad too. Abdominal aches and strain where going to the loo so much throughout the day. I was 20 when I had my first operation and had four in all as its more tricky to treat being male. I had three procedures that involved removing a section/cutting some bowel away, and the fourth was last resort. This last resort involved a procedure through the abdominen and tying the bowel back. It has been a success so far being four years on, but risks interfering with nerves that can cause impotence hence last resort. One thing I remember is any sign of blood should be checked out. Bright is recent, dark is older. And there are all sorts of explanations. Some serious others not. The sooner tests are carried out the better for a number of reasons. If it is serious it needs to be diagnosed and treated sooner the better. All the time you are unsure what is going on, you are likely to worry and stress or get depressed like I did, so get peace of mind and act. Another thing I remember being told is that when I asked if I wasn't eating enough fibre I was told too much fibre can be a problem with the condition. Good luck

I have a prolapsed rectum. I can never waer any light coloured trousers as often after going to the toilet and wiping myself I am still wet. Often feel if I need to go to toilet but it is only wind and sometimes go to toilet up to three times aday then I may not go at all for a couple of days. I also suffer with IBS. Is there a diet I should be on for the prolasped rectum and the IBS please help I am feeling really depressed about all of this

Hi i had double prolapse almost 5 years ago, and i have to say it was the worst day of my life, the surgeon cut through viens, that she shouldnt of, i needed Emergancy surgery after a massive bleed, thought i was goung to die. Ive had nothing but trouble from down there ever since, i would never have it done again if i needed to, i have suffered depression ever since that day

Watching tonights programme, I missed the most part of the woman with a prolapsed rectum. I thought I had piles, but now I am not sure. I have to use toilet paper to hold against my rectum in order for me to empty my bladder. I don't want to ask my g.p. because although I only see him on average once a year (because of prescribed anti depressants)I think he may feel as though I am being a bit of a hypocondriac. Can anyone give me an idea of the feeling between the piles and prolapse as I can't look myself and wouldn't want my husband to either! Any help would be appreciated.

I am a 75 yr old woman and have Coeliac disease which I diagnosed myself approx. 6 yrs ago. I've had a lot of surgery since I was 41 - first a hysterectomy/bladder/bowel repair and 5 months later a further bowel repair. Then in my 50's a prolapsed rectum which I didn't go to GP about until my late 50's. I had two non-intrusive ops. for the rectum prolapse, useless outcome. Then at 63 (still Coeliac not diagnosed) I had approx. 15" of intestines removed & a very intrusive op. for the rectum & I think the rectum problem was fixed somewhat by use of a "sling" inside. As I had malabsorption for yrs previously & continually the toilet, I thought when I diagnosed the Coeliac condition I would be fine. However, not as bad since on gluten free diet but a lot of escaping wind & faeces leakage. GP has seen this weeks ago & I have asked for Consultant referral. Do I need a further surgical op. to rectify. I'm just so weary of the embarrassmet of leakage and escaping wind.

I think I have a prolapsed rectum, well in fact I know I have. It sounds gross but skin that used to be inside my rectum has come out and decided to perminantly stay there. the skin is handing so it is constantly catching and causing it to be irritable. due to it catching it is also pulling more and more of my skin out each time and it is becoming very painful. I have had this problem for about a year and suffered in pain without telling anybody. When I go for a number 2 and have finished, more skin has come out so I have to try and push it back in with my finger which is painful too. I have recently had a baby and it has become worse (8 days ago). it is getting me down very badly and I feel ashamed to undress in the bedroom. I don't know what to do anymore:(

I have suffered from constipation since I was about 14 and I am now 29. My doctor said I have a sluggish bowl but nothing I have tried will work. Laxatives don't even get things moving. I think I am suffering from piles but am now not sure after seeing the programme I think maybe it could be a prolapsed rectum but there is no way I could see the doctor.

Hi this is like me, i have had bulimia for 7 years at the age of 10 im now 17 and i have an enlarge labia too do you know if you can get an operation on NHS ? to have it removed?

My granddaughter has a prolapsed rectum and has reached a stage where she has had a consultation with her registrar at Newcastle. Far frim encouraging her, he detailed all the things that could go wrong - eg, the op would mainly only be a semi permanent solution, there would have to be keyhole surgery, there may be scars etc., and basically put her off making a suggestion. He told her that they used pig cartilage in the op. Is this a modern procedure and should she seek a referral elsewhere?

I had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with a prolapsed rectum. The doctor had me start using benefiber and miralax, which has just made the problem worse, as I am going to the bathroom every few minutes, but just small amounts each time. I am raw and bleeding and it is so painful, that I finally took immodium to stop going. Now I know I've just compounded the problem. Does anyone have any suggestion that can help relieve this sufferring?
