I am a 30 year old woman, and I also have a very prominent adams apple, which I hate. This has depressed me since puberty. I recently found out I have hypothyroidism & I don't know if this is related to it at all. I'm too embarrased to ask my doctor about this. I would live more than anything to have my adams apple operated on to look more feminine. I don't feel like I'm a real woman because of it.

you must not be embarrased to speak to your gp, I had the same as you and found out I was hypothyroid (I even gave my goitre a name, it was case of laugh about it or cry. Its been five years since my first op and then another op two years ago took out the whole of the thyroid gland. The gland itself sits next to the windpipe and if yr hormone control is functioning then your thyroid will enlarge, its part of its anatomy to increase in size and unfortunately it will appear on your throat. Do you find wearing necklaces uncomfortable or scarves dig into your throat? please please go back to your doctor, they won't laugh its part of their job to fully explain things to you. Hopefully by now you have seen your doctor and have started medication to help with your hormone deficiency? I hope everything works out for you, be nice to yourself

my mum had a prominent adams apple and she was told she had Hypothyroidism and she had to have a op to take it out now she is loseing the weight the only draw back is the tablets!!!

Hi I'm 16 years old and I am going through puberty. I am 5 foot 7 inches tall and weight roughly 11 1/2 stone. I have hair under my arms, slight facial hair, slight hair under the belly button and have pubic hair which has spread to my groin and buttocks hair. My voice has broken and I have a small Adam's apple. My penis is about 1 1/2 inches when flaccid and 4 1/2 inches when errect. I just wanted to know will my penis increase in size, or I am stuck like this. This is really effecting my confidence with girls. Please comment back.

Jason I'm a girl and I can honestly tell you that you are completely normal! Honestly, you should be confident because you have nothing to worry about! And if it's really bothering you that much just take a look on the vulva wall on here-us girls worry about ourselves More than guys do! Size won't matter at all when you're in a relationship with someone, because they should love you for who you are and not what you look like. Hope this helps:) x

My clitoris gets large and quite prominent when I get aroused, is this normal

Yes that is perfectly normal. It's caused by a higher blood flow to the clitoris, which is very similar to how a male erection is caused.

Is it normal to have prominent vains around the general nipple area on the breast?

Is it possible to have cosmetic surgery to your clitoris so that it is more prominent from your lips. If so would you lose the sensitivity.

If your testicles are outside your body, then there is probably nothing to worry about. Some guys hang low, others do not. If you plan to have children, then the main thing to be concerned about is having a sperm count that is high with plenty of viable sperm. Most labs can check on these two variables for you. If you're fine with these two counts, then no need to worry. If you're low with either of these two counts, then you need to be talking to doctors who specialize in these areas to see what your options are.

I think a prominent Adam's Apple is very hot. A man with a sharp angular jaw, a prominent Adam's Apple and veins sticking out on his arms and hands is just about perfect through my eyes.

I have all of these features and am actually embarrassed of my adams apple

There's no reason to feel "freaked out" if you have a big adam's apple. The reason adam's apples are so prominent in teens is because of the lack of fat in a teens neck. As a result the adam's apple has a very assuming look. I was a late 13 year old when my voice began to change. I was tall for my age and quite skinny. As a result I had a pretty skinny neck with a bulging adam's apple aboard. The following year my voice fully matured and was unusually deep. Here I was this tall skinny kid with this giant adam's apple and a voice that boomed like a bass fiddle. Some of the kid's in my school thought my adam's apple was cool, and some jerks would poke fun at me. By the time I was 17 my body began to fill out and my humungous apple was masked by the extra body fat. Now I'm an old duck in my late 30's and overweight. That big, old adam's apple of mine is nowhere to be seen unless I tilt my head way back, and still it looks miniscule in comparision to when I was a young kid.

Hello, I'm 16 year old MALE and I have a large Adam's apple. When I'm talking with anyone; immediately the whole conversation is about my Adam's apple. I feel very bad about it, it's affecting me physically and mentally for the last 2 years. I don't go out any more and I hate other people. Even my own family, they keep teasing me about my admins apple....... I'm such a self conscious person no one understands me or helps me in my family (we are Indians). It may sound silly and I know it is (I'm a straight A student), however, Iv even tried using a razor blade with an local anaesthetic to reduce my Adam's apple. This process deemed a failure....... I've booked an appointment with my doctor, but it's on 23rd July 2013. Can you give me support on who can help me or what can be done to reduce my Adam's apple.

dont be worried about it, coming from a female, i dnt think there is anythink wrong with them .. i hae been with my partnr for 6 months and only today did i accually realsise it was quit big! if there your friends an family then they should not be botherd .. family do tease my family arethe same, they tease about the little tings because it is just what family do, as friends do, but if your upset about the doingthis then ask them how they would like it if yu wereteasing them about something the were conciouse about. or just have a word with them. :)

I wouldnt worry about it man, I'm 27, and pretty skinny (6'5" 190lbs). I used to care about it when I was you're age but now i couldn't care less. Yes people make fun of it sometimes but you just make fun of them back, they'll even respect you more for standing up for yourself. I would save that money for a procedure for school or general savings.

I have an Adam's apple . Mine is bigger than most Girls and even some boys. I hate it . I have a long skinny neck. Sometimes I wonder why I of all people have an Adam's apple

I was 13 when my voice began changing. I did have a noticeable protrusion in my throat, and a year later at 14 I had an extremely large adam's apple. I was tall and skinny which only accentuated my boney features. It wasn't until It wasn't until my mid-twenties that I started putting on weight. My looks softened and I looked more proportioned. That once prominent adam's apple of mine was not so noticeable anymore unless I tiled my head way back. A lot of young people go through this phase and are concerned about their appearance. Yeah, it can be a big deal for some but time will make changes to your body. And before you know it you're in your 30's then 40's and your appearance won't be a big issue, if at all anymore. Life's so short so don't sweat the small stuff.

Thank you this really helped me

I am a 34 year old woman who actually has a pro dominant Adam's apple. I must admit, I had been extremely lucky in the fact that no one had ever made a nasty comment about it - in fact no one even pointed out I had one or how rare it was until I saw for myself on tv when I was in my late twenties. I didn't focus on it though, and never once let it affect my confidence. I just never gave it a second thought - well I knew I was definitely a woman - That was never in doubt! When I settled down at 28, I asked my husband if he had noticed my Adam's apple - he said yes, and went on to admit it had worried him at first (well, at least until he'd given my downstairs a very thorough inspection)! I think it was still a relief to the both of us in 2009 when I gave birth to our son. I'd always worried that a hormonal imbalance had caused me to have an Adam's apple and that those same hormones may have made me too 'manly' to conceive. Luckily, this was never the case and I sailed through it all. My advice to any girl out there with an Adam's apple - forget it's there and make sure that there are enough interesting points to your personality to ensure that by the time anyone has looked so far as your throat, you've already lured them in. Sam x

Hello there "14 year old girl." I had to respond to your comment because something was brought to my attention again yesterday (as to why am doing online research)... Story: I remember being around your age when my Adam's apple was brought to my attention. I was confused and didn't understand why(?). There may have been a time or two several years later that it was brought to my attention but brushed it off (although hurt!)... Last night I was talking to a guy I met online and he was like "I think you look familiar." And I am like "no. And he was like "are you the one with an Adam's apple?!" Crushing, I nearly cried but didn't. I am 35 and for a guy my age to say somethin so intrusive, has real self-esteem issues. Needless to say I put him in his place... Any how, I am an extremely attractive woman. And am asked to this day, "are you a model?" Adam's apple and all,lol... I know at your age it can be devastating but as your older you will see that you forget it. Maybe even embrace it because it is unique. At least it can give someone something to talk about! Love it girl!! Proudly display your Apple... Even tilt your head up so it shows more... Make your fellow students envy how much confidrnce you have in something that others think should be hidden...

I wish a huge Adam's apple was my problem im 16 pretty sure I've gone through puberty and my Adam's apple is really small like abnormally small and my voice is kinda high but I'm almost positive I've gone through puberty

I am a 21 year old woman and also have a prominent adam's apple and never seen or met another female who had one and began to feel insecured about it time to time... thought I was the only one but I'm glad to know I'm not the only female out there. I feel much better even though no one has ever really commented on it and I am very girly and do have a boyfriend and even he doesn't comment on it. Hope this helps anyone who feels insecure about it.

I have a noticeable one too. My husband doesn't say anything and is one of those that never makes fun of people. Mine is noticeable from my genes and I have less fat tissue than other women in the neck. I thought about getting surgery to minimize it but haven't followed through. I have 4 kids and a happy life so I wish you the best too and know you are not alone.

Melissa I have a good friend ( a girl) whose adams apple began to stick out when she was 12> she was teased and tormented and tried to hide it but stress made it more prominent. She's 20 now and quite proud of it.

    How to decrease adam's apple

When and how did your moms Adam Apple disappear? Did she gain weight?

Hi my son is 19 years old is skinny and has a promenade Adam's apple t is so proment and he is so conscious what do you advise

Dear Genevieve, There is absolutely no need to feel embarrassed about your prominent adams apple. Most people do not even notice it, and when men look at it, mostly they do that because they think it is quite sexy even, and they would love to talk to you. There are many lady celebrities who have it too. Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock for instance, and they are also having a nice life. I am positive that your life will not be ruined by your adams apple, maybe you focus too much on it. Take care, Jack

I am 17 years old and also have a prominant Adam's Apple. Although it is pointed out now and them it does not make me feel any less feminine. I have simply put it down to being very slim.
