It could be that you are not using enough lubricant or are being too rough with yourself. A good rule with anal play is when you think you have too much lube, you almost have enough!

you might have a split or fissure - you need to give the anal play a rest for a bit until it heals up and then when you start again you need to use lots of lube - if its just you then oil will suffice but you cannot use oil with condoms if you're playing with someone else.

I guess I have congenital rectal prolapse. My parents never showed me to any pediatrician and now I am 20 years old. It usually goes back in but when I difficulty in defecation or straining it comes out. It is painless normally. But rarely when I have constipation for many days some bleeding and pain occurs. Is there any complication that may occur if I not get it corrected? What is its prognosis?

I had my menopause at 39, had 10 years of HRT which did nothing and from 39 to 58 sweated uncontrollably until I could stand it no longer. Last August, my GP again prescribed HRT and I have not stopped bleeding very heavily since. In March I had a hysteroscope and all was normal although I was and am still bleeding very heavily. I have no break at all from bleeding. I am exhausted and really can't put up with this situation any longer. The first HRT stopped the sweats but I changed to another to stop the bleeding. The bleeding continues and the sweats have come back. Please help!

I had the implant put in last year (I'm eighteen and had it to sort out my generally heavy period) after a couple of months I noticed a significant differenence in my periods. They became more regular as in I would have one every other week, and they became heavier than they had been before. I went back to my doctor and had the implant removed after just one year, they were hesitant because they insisted that the implants cost the government a lot of money. Since then my periods have gone back to the way they were before, on time however they remain heavy. I believe it's just the implant.

Hi, I had my first mirena coil fitted on 28/11/12 and ever since I have been bleeding, only small amounts, but constant. in january the bleeding started to get heavier so i went back to the sexual health clinic for swabs and it turned out that i had thrush and bacterial vaginosis so i completed the medications for these. this stopped my bleeding for about 3 days. then i started bleeding again very lightly. do you think it will stop by the 6th month mark on its own? or will i have to go back to have it removed?

I had the coil fitted about a month ago and I havnt stopped bleeding since. It's not heavy bleeding and it doesn't hurt but its just really annoying, iv been on 6 different birth control pills and they didn't stop my bleeding, I went on the injection for a year and my periods completely stopped but I got very bad back acne and gained some weight so iv finally opted for the copper coil, but I havnt stopped bleeding since a couple of days after I had it fitted! Also I'm already anaemic some bleeding continuously doesn't help the situation Please help!

Yes, rectal bleeding can be a symptom of endometriosis. I was not diagnosed till in my 40s. My consultant sent me for a barium and a colonoscopy. As a result he wanted to give me a hysterectomy and bowel resection. I used to be in a cold sweat from the pain. It was the barium that showed up the endometriotic lesion. See if this could provide confirmation for your daughter. Due to being closer to the menopause I refused surgery, but still have scarring on my bowel and bladder from the endo. I suspect this could cause me more problems as I age. Good luck, Fliss.

Dear Doctors, I was suffering from runny nose all the time and frequent sneezing was quite embarrassing. So recently I started taking vitamin c 1000mg daily. Since then I have noticed that no runny nose anymore, significantly sneezing is completely stopped. I am quite happy about what vitamin C did for me, but the unfortunate thing is that i am seeing some blood when I pass stool. As well as minimal irritation and blood lumps . My question is that does vitamin C cause rectal bleeding? If it does how can I avoid bleeding without stopping vitamin C intake. I also would like to know what causes vitamin C to make rectal bleeding? Appreciate your time and answer.

Go to a urogynocologist.. I am 57 and 3 days ago had surgery for vaginal and rectal prolapse. Happy to have it overwith. It is embarrassing but do you really want to put up with it for the rest of your life? Expect a pelvic and rectal exam . Possibly a vaginal and rectal ultrasound. Then i. had a recital test that measured strength of rectal muscles and awareness of bowel pressure. I just kept telling myself that all of these tests would make surgery more successful. Pain after surgery compares tp pain and soreness after a vaginal delivery. Not too bad at all.

i had a full thickness rectal prolapse, had a surgery, 1 yr later it re prolapsed. i was left 19 months before any help was given, i then had a mesh abdominal rectoplexy, it lasted 3 weeks, since then im complettly bowel and bladder incontinent, in severe ain and bleed from behind, the advice given was a machine in my home for rectal irrigation and a hysterectomy. im 34 severly depressed, wearing nappies. they said my rectal diaphragm has no strength at all, what can i do as im at the end of my tether.

Cyclical bleeding is considered indicative of endometriosis, in fact could mean you have intestinal disease. Hopefully your surgeon will have the necessary experience and skill to diagnose and treat you - at the very least, I would expect him/her to explain the cyclical rectal bleeding - if this doesn't come up at the follow-up, then make sure to mention it yourself and ask about it. It can be that your tube is involved in adhesions. Endometriosis rarely affects the tubes directly but adhesions resulting from endometriosis can affect the tubes (e.g. when endometriosis affects the ovaries).

Hi, I've been diagnosed with rectal mucosal prolapse and a grade 3.4 rectocele. These are two different conditions; you could have one without the other. My problem has been that I've read rectoceles are treated more successfully with a transvaginal approach which is almost always done by a urogynecologist. However, uro/gyns usually don't repair partial rectal prolapse. In fact, the uro/gyn I saw didn't even think that the rectal mucosal prolapse needed to be addressed. This was the complete opposite of what my colorectal surgeon told me. It was his opinion that both needed to be corrected and that the rectal mucosal prolapse would only get worse. He also didn't feel that transvaginal repair of rectocele was always superior to transrectal. Does anyone have some experience with having both of these conditions corrected and what specialist did the surgery for you? Another complication I have is a mild cystocele (asymptomatic) and I'm also waiting to be sure my uterus doesn't have to be removed due to some thickening in the uterine lining. Ideally, I would have my rectocele and rectal mucosal prolapse repaired by a colorectal surgeon and then if uterus and cystocele needed to be addressed, I would have a uro/gyn do surgery on that area at the same time. I want to avoid two seperate surgeries.

Shirley, Just seen your info. I have a similar problem? Really worried now, as this partial prolapse may suddenly become an Emmergency. Not sure if this surgeon can help Mr. Colin Elton appears to do a surgery which may help all compartments. Good luck, This has been a nightmare for me. 3 years at an institution and told to get pain med. Looks like I do have an anterior prolapse. Have been told no haemorrhoids, then yes to haemorrhoids. A complete nightmare still unwell and very worried Hope u find help. I cannot find a site with a surgeons skills. I may need just one surgery at present. Still not sure which surgeon has the best expertise to do the job. Best of luck Sue

Shirley, just had mine done altogether. Go to bristolsurgery.com and you'll find out all you need to know. Good luck as its a miserable condition.

hi there i dont suffer with this but do have endometriosis, and rectal bleeding can happen with this condition if say you have it on your bowel-my advice would be to see a dr about out sooner rather than latter as you should be careful that you dont become anemic. check out endometriosis uk website theres a few people on there with your problem.x

Your story sounds like me! Only after three years of this awefull pain and chronic acute impaction , I now have rectal thickening. My doc said I need surgery NOW ! I hurt all the time and cant work , my life revolves around many daily laxatives and the bathroom . I have had two rectal surgeries before without success , so i dont have much faith they will get it right this time. I am glad you are feeling better . Wishing you well and thanks for sharing.

Update re finding best operation technique for anterior rectocele / rectal mucosal prolapse London: Biofeedback clinic senior bowel therapist confirmed it is imperative to strengthen pelvic floor muscles before any operation to repair rectocele . This will improve chances of relapse not occurring! Pelvic floor exercises will not improve my rectal mucosal prolapse . Found out that if a surgeon does go ahead to operate using Laparascopic ventral Rectopexy if he reaches any complications during op he must be able to open up your abdomen! This is very worrying as I do not want abdomen cut open for rectocele repair nor my vagina touched! Can anyone out there respond to my comments? So. Confused about rectocele repair . Re operating on my anus to repair mucosal rectal prolapse . This is done by same method as haemorroidectomy ouch very painful! Has anyone out there had a rectal mucosal prolapse operated on and if so what method? Thanks Michele

I had laparascopic ventral rectopexy on March 10th 2014. I feel that although there has been an improvement in my symptoms.. I am still recovering from the op. I am getting general aches and pains in abdominal area(bit like period pain feeling) and I feel it when sit down with tenderness along in lower abdomen..also have tenderness at sight of one of the incisions which consultant thinks is a hernia.I do not have the feeling of pressure in rectum which was always present but my bowel has not yet settled(told could be several months)and I have to take movicol to avoid constipation. Before op was always 'aware' of bowel..now always 'aware' of discomfort in abdomen.

Michele, I have the same situation that you had or have. I have a large rectocele and rectal mucosal prolapse. Have you had surgery? If you have, what specialist did it and how has the outcome been? I have so many questions I would like to ask you.

Hi Debbie not sure if you got my reply. I have no regrets having the Procedure as at the time it was deemed the best solution for me. The Colo-Rectal Surgeon felt that my Bowel Issue was the main point of concern and basically pulled it back into line. However I did mention that the Rectocele ( which was my main concern) had not been repaired and he explained that I had a weakness with the Rectal Sphincter Muscles and that had to be put right. I went to see my own Gynaecologist who confirmed the Rectocele was still visible and not repaired but would not advise further surgery as I have undergone so many procedures already. However it looks like that is the only option now. I face my first round of yet more tests on Tuesday 4th October then on the 21st. I think a Uro-Gynaecologist will now be involved as well as a Colo-Rectal Surgeon. On the whole I am feeling quite down and can't see a soluton at the moment and that's quite scary. Michelle.x

Hi Michelle. I saw the programme that you were on and wondered what happened to you. I too have had a mesh repair for a rectal prolapse 3 years ago.I haven't been able to poo normally ever since. Also I had to have the mesh removed 3 months ago because it had moved and I had developed severe pain and difficulty walking. I am no better, and have now been diagnosed with chronic pain cycle and can't work!! I wish I could turn the clock back. I never would have had this op. Have you or others had any similar problems? Merris

I did go see my doctor and turns out it was internal haemorrhoids. They are not causing any pain or bleeding, it's not uncomfortable. The doctor just gave me a rectal exam which was not nice and no other advice as it was not causing any pain.. I am trying these suppositories and se if this helps to clear get rid of it or is there any creams or other things to try?

Unbelivable, there are SO many people who have the same problems as me, I posted my 1st comment on the 4th of may i have been given an internal exam, and i am waiting to be seen at a larger haspital to see if my rectal muscles are working properly if there not i will need a small machine fitted to help me re-educate my rectal muscles, I personally dont belive this is the problem but it might work, Also very recently it feels like my womb or bladder has droped lower and im scared incase i get a different prolape like my mum did

Hi I was diagnosed with rectal prolapse last year ( I have had two kids so think this may be the cause) I was advised to hold off on the surgery until I know whether I will be having any more children. The symptoms have got worse, gas, mucus, either constipated or poo which looks more like baby poo. Are these symptoms because of the rectal prolapse or could they be the sign of something else? Also if I had surgery and then got pregnant afterwards, say a year afterwards could this damage the repair? thanks

I have had irregular periods, bleeding in between periods, not knowing if I am going to bleed from day to day I can't tell you how many pairs of underwear have been ruined! I have tried to see if there are any patterns to it and I think it happens when I'm feeling stressed or anxious but my doctor said it's usually the opposite??? I have had a colposcopy and soooooo many smear tests I honsetly don't know where to turn next. I do worry that it might be hiding something more serious especially since I seem to be getting other symptoms in that region now. If anyone has any other suggestions please help. By the way, good luck with your baby plans, you are not greedy!

I have this problem too! I was offered cauterisation, but am not keen as the consultant said everything looks healthy! I'd love to know what causes this as it's very inconvenient and putting me off sex (much to my husbands frustration!).

Hi I have been diagnosed with a mild rectal prolapse but was told to hold off on surgery until I decide if I want more kids ( I have two already). Would having more kids if I had surgery affect the repair? Also, I have mucus in my stools, gas on passing stools/mucus and either constipated or stools are like baby poo. Are these syptoms associated with the rectal problem or could they be sign of something else? thanks
