I seem to have some sort of sexual dysfunction, which is impacting on my relationship. I do not know if this is normal or atypical. I am a female aged 19 years. I am not anorgasmic. My desire for sexual activity is very inconsistent. Sometimes I have intense, persistent sexual arousal with desire for sexual contact, that does not cease after multiple orgasms. At other times, a strong aversion to sex with zero desire. These phases usually last 24-48 hours, with limited stabilization in between. This inconsistency is causing significant psychological stress, for both my partner and I. Is this indicative of a problem? What can I do to achieve a balanced libido.

As much as you masterbate - the first couple of times you are never really prepared for sex. I lost my virginity late in life, when I was 21, prior to that I had masterbated with toys, and my hands, etc. This is a terrible answer - but it takes a few times for women, I think for women to get comfortable with that feeling of a penis inside of them. I htink fingering yourself, and having your partner find yourself is a good start - but that feeling it takes time. At the same time - when you start having sex when you're young - you have no idea what to do, and in most cases neither does the guy you sleep with - unless they are older and experienced. It takes some time to find your fitting - and something that I didn't do and I encourage - is having sex with someone your comfortable with makes a difference in your comfort and getting more comfortable with sex. As always, practice safe sex.

What are the causes of dysfunction and its treatments? What causes bend or curved penis and its effects on sexual intercourse ?

I was involved in a motorcycle accident back in June, 1972 when I was 14 years of age, which compressed my spine at 7th and 8th thoracic vertebrae, leaving me paraplegic requiring a wheelchair for mobility, with no feeling below my ribs. For years, until 2008, I used a condom catheter since I lost voluntary control over my bladder and urination, but due to more sustained leakage because of slippage, I now have a supra-pub catheter inserted into my bladder, bypassing my penis. I have learned to deal with being paralyzed, which includes lack of feeling and usage of my lower body, that is all but sexual dysfunction. I miss the feeling provided by sexual activity tremendously! I haven't had an orgasm since before the accident. I still have full erections, both due to manual stimulation as well as spontaneously; however, when my penis is in relaxed state, it withdraws until it...disappears! It recedes and drops out of sight. It becomes so embarrassing that I can't find the courage to talk to my doctor about the issue! The whole reproductive paralysis issue has been so embarrassing, such as penal withdrawal during foreplay, that I have not attempted intercourse. Yes, you heard me right, I have never had the full sexual act. Am I the only one to have such problems? Is my life going to continue to be sexless?

i'm no expert in the medical sense about your penis but i wouldn't worry about living your life sexless. if you find the right woman she will understand and help you through it. you just need to remember if any woman doesn't stick around because of it then she is not worth being with. get the courage to talk to your doctor about the disappearing penis but i would think its not a big deal as my ex partner had the same thing happening from time to time. hope things get better for you

Hey, i totally know what you're talking about. and yeah its really scary to go to a dr. to talk about this kind of problem, especially if its a male. and even if its a female, there are many really great gynecologist who really don't know how to address sexual dysfunction...theyre not trained that much in it. i dont know where you live, but you need to find a place that specializes in sexual dysfunction-- not just a regular therapist, that could be a real waste of time- and dont give up on finding the right place to get help. if youre on the east coast in the US i heard about this place medical for female sexuality that specializes in this. if you cant get there they have a really good site that is super helpful-- centerforfemalesexuality.com good luck and dont give up hope!!!!

I suffer from a condition called Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES). It is caused by compression of the Cauda Equina, which is the bottom part of the spinal cord where it branches off; a bit like a horses tail. If a part of the Cauda Equina is crushed, especially between the L5 S1 vertebrae which supplies the sexual organs, bowl, bladder legs. This can cause erectile dysfunction. In fact if you experience loss of erectile function and it is combined with lumber back pain, problems urinating, numbness around your perineum/sexual organs, it is a warning sign you could be suffering from the onset of CES. If you have these symptoms it could be a medical emergency, see your GP! If it isn’t dealt with swiftly and the nerve is not decompressed quickly it could leave permanent nerve damage, and consequently sexual dysfunction, incontinence, mobility problems, chronic pain. Please C4! Can we dedicate part of a programme to Cauda Equina Syndrome to raise awareness, it is a devastating condition and not as rare as the medical profession think. There is a fantastic UK based charity that supports sufferers and carers - www.caudaequinauk.com

You need to ask your doctor to refer you for an urgent mri scan. You must insist on it.

My hubby has got Cuda Equina, and his was an emergency job. He suffered two slipped discs in his back, and a herniated disc where the fluid from the spinal disc seeped out onto his cauda equina nerve group, and one disc hit his spinal cord, one disc was about 10 years old, one was recent. The ONLY viable treatment is surgery, you need a decompression of your cauda equina and possible removal of the spinal disc which has herniated or slipped into the cauda equina. It is a major op, but the outlook is good if you get it seen to early enough. Don't be fobbed off with strong painkillers, these will just mask the pain and won't help the sexual disfunction, which my hubby still has after surgery, the road to recovery is a long one, and after the op, he is looking at years recovering, possibly up to two years. You must insist on an MRI scan, this test is the ONLY way to correctly diagnose your problem. Xrays are not very good at picking this condition up, and it is incredably rare. A MRI will be able to tell if your case is operable, if it is, you will require surgery ASAP. Don't be afraid, things do get better even with this awful condition.

In answers to the questions above about discharge, itching and soreness you could be suffering from bacteria vaginosis, or non-specific vaginitis, it is best to have your GP refer you to a gynaecologists or a sexual dysfunction clinic both available on the NHS.

Get them removed. I had similar embarrassment in my early 20nies.i went to private surgery and had around 15 done of a size pea.i felt great after this .Although they started to reappear and slowly still growing.i will have to find courage again to see a surgeon.my advice would be to go other place than your own town and seek a man surgeon to minimise embarrassment. Matus

I'm 15 and have them... is that normal? I'm way too embarrassed to tell my mom to go to the doctor. What can I do?

I just read your comment and I highly recommend you to to the Hyperthermia combined with low radiation dose treatment. I had prostate cancer and this non invasive alternative prostate cancer treatment not only saved my prostate, but I was saved from the terrible sexual side effects that conventional therapies have: loss of sexual desire, no more erections (erectile dysfunction), diarrhea, and incontinence. You can find Hyperthermia clinics in Europe and USA

I have the same problem, I'm only 17 and I have been in a relationship with my current boyfriend for about a year and a half and not once during foreplay or sex have I been aroused and obviously this is making me feel down since I want to be able to enjoy the experience with him, apparently it's a sexual dysfunction which can be treated with either hormone therapy or by talking about any problems you might have with a sex therapist or counsellor.

I am 38 years old, I do not have erectile dysfunction but my foreskin will not pull over the head. My first sexual experiance in my mid 20s did'nt last long as it was painfull and I never had a real girlfriend. Now I am bisexual and still every time I masterbate it still gets painfull and sore, please can anybody help I am embaressed to go and see my gp even at 38 years old. Again please help.

I am in my fifties and have been suffering from ED for a many years. My GP has referred me to specialists who report that there are no physical problems and concluded that the issue is psychological. I have seen psychologists specialising in sexual dysfunction yet there has been no improvement. My GP has told me that there is nothing more he can do except issue private prescriptions for viagra but the drugs are cost prohibitive. Can you suggest any other alternatives?

I guess erectile dysfunction can play a part in sexual satisfaction, so I'd advise looking through the information on this condition. Stress for example is one thing that causes lack of sex drive. So if you try looking through the advice on this site, see if it improves, and if not as the experts say book yourself into see your gp, there not gonna laugh, cos they've seen it all before. Keep me informed on how the condition improves...

Hi, I have been with my boyfriend for 3 years and we haven't had sex for a long time as every time we do I find it really painful, we've tried different lubs and condoms but nothing seems to work, and i have also never really had much of a sexual drive. Even though my boyfriend is so patient and doesn't push it at all I feel really bad, I have had orgasms before but never during sex, is there anything I can do to make it so its not painful? I have sensory processing dysfunction and i know at times I can't have my boyfriend touch me, and i always thought the reason was something to do with my SPD is it? or is it normal and is there anything that can be done? thanks

I am 68 and I take blood pressure tablets, statins, one mild heart attack for which I take medication. I now suffer from erectile dysfunction. On your show you had a Consultant who performed a procedure where he did something like a ------gram to unblock so blood flow would improve he is I think the only Consultant to perform and private very costly, is there an NHS Consultant who does this procedure and what else can you do for me. Also is it safe for me to take Viagra obviously that Consultant who performed that procedure on your show I think it improved his erectile dysfunction can you confirm this if possible.

My boyfriend is suffering with erectile dysfunction, he can get an errection but cant always maintain it. My comments are mainly for the guys. Please talk to your partner about things and how your feeling. My boyfriend felt too embarassed to talk at first which left my mind working overtime eg. is this because of me? am i doing something wrong or not doing enough of something? Because of this, i stopped initiating sex, thinking it might go wrong and embarass him, whilst my boyfriend was thinking i'd gone off him and made performance anxiety even worse. We now talk about things and although he still has erectile dysfunction, were deaking with it as a couple.

At 22 I wouldn't say this was normal, but it depends on your lifestyle. If you are drinking and smoking lots then erectile dysfunction will happen lots more, and if you add obesity to that list it increases once again. However if your fit and healthy and don’t drink or smoke to much you may want to see your local GP to see what they think. If you don’t want to see your Doc about this and prefer to do it over the internet or phone you could always see out an online Pharmacy. If you do go the online route, always make sure you buy from a registered UK pharmacy with the green pharmacy logo on their website which when clicked displays their pharmacy information. Try Medical Specialists Pharmacy they have been helping people with erectile dysfunction online for over 10 years.

I just saw the video and your comment and I need to tell you I HAD prostate cancer and I was treated with an alternative prostate cancer treatment called Hyperthermia, in combination with low-dose-radiation. Since no surgery, chemotherapy or high dose radiation are used, the side effects were none. I do not have erectile dysfunction, incontinence, and i have no loss of sexual desire. Actually my libido increased after the Hyperthermia treatment.

Erectile dysfunction I incredibly common. Please don't ever be embarrassed about it as we as healthcare professionals see loads of people with it. As discussed the best option is to see a healthcare professional and have some investigations to exclude any serious underlying condition. Once we have excluded this, there are lots of treatment options. Some Psychological therapies, The PDE5 inhibitors (tablets such as Viagra), however if these don't work, there are other options. We sometime use 'muse' which is a urethral medication or pumps and elasticated rings to manually achieve erections, there is also the option of an injection (which sounds far worse than it is!). The issue here is that erectile dysfunction can really depress people and causes relationship problems, and these medications and therapies are there to help. Don't sit there in silence there really is something that we can do about it!
