I am an 18 year old girl. I had the nuss procedure on my chest 2 years ago. My chest is quite unusual because on set of ribs did not grow enough causing my sternum to twist up to 90 degrees. Due to crowding of my heart and lungs along with shortness of breath and chest pains, they actually used 2 bars rather than one to fix it. I can breath now and have no more pains, but one side of my chest is still noticeably more sunken in than the other. I'm wondering if there is any non surgical possibilities.

I have a similar case with both Pectuus Carinatum and Excavatum causing my sternum to twist as well so one side of my ribcage is raised while the other is sunken. I had one nuss bar around the age of 15/16 but it worsened it. I am not sure there are any non surgical ways around it. Now 21 I have chosen to have another surgery, similar to the Ratvich where cartilage and bone is removed and the sternum is twisted. As well as this I will be seeing a plastic surgeon after my surgery.

Hi, I get bad breath too even though I spend ages brushing my teeth really thoroughly. I've found that flossing at least once a day, using a toothbrush with a tongue cleaner on it and wiping that quite gently from back to front on my tongue and using 'Oraldene' mouthwash has really helped. The mouthwash tastes rank, but it works really well. Hope this helps

Hi Laura You may be dehydrated, often bad breath is a sign of this. Drink plenty of water, or if you dont like plain water try adding just a drop of squash. If you have a white coating on your tongue this is an indication of too much sugar in your diet which can also cause bad breath, so cut back on sugary drinks, sweets and fruit juices. Get yourself a tongue scraper and get used to using this every morning before you brush your teeth

I'm 17 and I've had chronic bad breath for 6 years, it could be longer but I was told 6 years ago. When I finally plucked up the courage to visit a GP, I had my tonsils removed, as I had bad tonsil stones. I have also had my wisdom teeth removed. Today I done something which I've never done, I finally told a medical professional I had bad breath, normally I disguise it with other things like a sore throat with the tonsils etc. My dentist said my teeth are perfect and I shouldn't have bad breath?! I really don't know what to do, I was so scared of saying I had bad breath, and when I do I'm not given an answer?! I brush twice a day and floss, scrape my tongue and use mouthwash. No one else in my family suffers from it, my mother has awful yellow and black rotting teeth and she's a heavy smoker and coffee drinker, but I've never smelt bad breath on her. I do get a bright yellow coating on my tongue throughout the day and I feel like I may have post nasal drip. Can anyone please help me, I know this is long but I'm desperate I'm close to suicide. Thank you

hey its not the answer. you might have gerd or post nasal drip. btw how did you know you have bad breath??

Get 3% hydrogen peroxide from the grocery store. First scrape your tongue floss and brush teeth. When you brush teeth brush the top of your mouth your gums and your vtongue. After that mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water and rinse and gargle for 45 seconds, spit it out and rinse mouth with water. Do this in the morning and before going to bed.If the source of your bad breath is your mouth or tonsils this will fix it . It works very well.

Whenever I exercise I go bright red in the face, my arms also then go red and my chest does. It's even gone so far as I've turned somewhat purple. I don't hold my breath and I breath like most people who exercise, I am not overweight and I do not smoke. Any idea what's wrong?

Hi, I have not been able to breath properly through my nose for a number of years, people at my work said I have had a cold since they have known me. I do have better days and bad days. Doctor has give me allergy table one a day and nasal spray which I don't like or use. They will not let me have the flu jab as they don't think it will help?? Does anyone know how or the best way to get rid or just be able to breath better through my nose??

My tongue is always yellowy/green right at the back and the front always looks quite white. I drink at least six glasses of water a day and the more water I drink the more thirsty I am, plus the whiteness never lessens. I have had some sinus problems but my doctor keeps saying there is nothing wrong now and won't refer me to ENT but it is a constant annoyance in my life and I do get bad breath alot of the time. I know that the bad breath started when my nose problems started and at that time the doctor said I had sinusitis plus an infection. After antibiotics I did notice a difference in my breath but now my doctor says there is nothing wrong. My diet is not unhealthy, I eat plenty of fruit and do not eat much junk food. Help.

The thick white/yellow/green coating is probably oral thrush, which is basically a yeast infection... most common in people with weak Immune Systems (babies&elderly), people taking antibiotics, someone with an infectious disease.. I am currently in a hospital taking antibiotics after surgery, and they caused oral trush, which was cured by Nystatin? (Spelling?) Its a swish-n-swallow liquid. Thrush can damage taste buds.. and give u bad breath. Worst of all.. it can make ur mouth feel numb

Every time I brush my teeth and use mouth wash, I get this icky egg like breath in my mouth and throat. I also brush my tongue. I don't get why I get this icky egg-smelling breath after I brush and use mouth wash. What should I do? I don't want this egg-like breath smell in my mouth and throat anymore

I'm lobbing my 2p's worth here - as it currently stands do you keep a health diary? I'd recommend this to everyone even though it can be a pain the arse to maintain.Remember the more information you can provide to your Gp the better chance they have to help. There are things that you can do to help - and this goes for the all the lettuce munchers out there: It doesn't matter whether you much on a steak or on a cauliflower your body knows when it's ready to work. From my experience only (everyone has their own body clock) there are certain times through the day that this issue doesn't affect you - think of it as a sleep pattern - your body has a digestive plan and it may not coincide with what you want and that's where body training comes in and that all comes down to you. I'd look to retraining your body - mentally.Start by setting a definitive breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper of that's how your body is going - but once your body knows that schedule it should only produce acid in anticipation of the forthcoming meal.It might help but re-training your body and it's schedule might help. There's no guarantee but keep a diary and the folks here updated as they could benefit but overall keep in contact with your gp.

Im 20 and I also have this, I get chests pains and shortness of breath, along with really low esteem issues when I am topless which has deterred me from getting close with people. Does anyone know if the NHS covers PE, if they do how would i go about getting the help?

Hi I have been with a girl for about 5 months now and she says she suffers from panic attacks but it's unlike anything I have ever seen. The symptoms start out she has shortness of breath and tells me she's scared. But her other symptoms don't show on the sites I've looked at. Her purples dilate to nearly all of her eye colour has gone.... She tells me everything is bright. Her heart rate is normal tho. It's not racing and I would say timing it it's about 65 to 70 beats a minute. She don't sweat. But her hands curl up and she has sudden shaking then stops. Also if it's a bad one she will pass out and then what looks like stopps breathing. I counted about 30 seconds then she wakes takes a deap breath and starts again. She can do this about 3 or 4 times. I have been getting her to deep breath in and out but she can only do that when she looks a little more coherent and has calmed down a bit. Other times she is trying to swallow making a horrible noise and looks totally out of it. Is this normal for a panic attack

Hey I've had about 5 panic attacks lately, I'm 13, female and claustrophobic I panic in very confined spaces and can't handle it, I go into cold sweats then I get dizzy and my legs almost give way I also felt very faint and then I couldn't control my breathing I couldn't catch my breath it was frightening. And today in P.E we did the bleep test (its basically where your in a huge hall and you have to reach the other side of the huge hall by the next bleep and then keep on doing that un till you can't do it anymore) I kept pushing and pushing myself and then I gave up and then my throat was really dry and sore and I could not catch my breath properly, I had chest pains, wobbly legs, shortness of breath, nausea, trembling, (all which it says above in the description, also I was really panicking because I knew break time was next and all sorts of stuff was going through my mind (because I get picked on basically)

I am 67 male Caucasian, diagnosed with a 2/6 heart murmur today for the first time. I have always thought of myself as healthy cardiologically speaking, short of a slightly elevated systolic 130/70, highest. Slight anemia 12, without shortness of breath, should I be concerned or expect this to be part of the normal aging process?

Hi I am 23 years old and have had a funnel chest all my life! I think it is genetic as my dad and brother have it too but I seem to have a deeper hole and have larger ribs! I have a hole in my chest so bras and bikinis do not sit on my chest and my ribs stick out quite alot! I have hated this all my life and very ashamed of it! I cant wear fitted tops as you can see my ribs through it and looks like im trying to breath in all the time its awful! I always wondered if there was something that can be done about them but have no idea where to start?? I have always had shortness of breath but been told many times that I do not have asthma off my gp and suffer from alot of palpertations especially at the night but had no idea that my disgusting chest could be the cause of these problems!

I'm 27 and I always knew there was something wrong with my chest. 2 years ago I realised that it's called Pectus Excavatum. I hoped that breast surgery will diminish the appearance of dent in my chest but unfortunately now it looks even worse. Moreover all symptoms like shortness of breath, chest/back pains, heart palpitations etc. are getting worse as I get older. In addition, my self-esteem is really low :( don't know what to do...:(

im 28yr old female and have endometrosis, suffered with it since 2008, diagnosed 2010. my problem is for about 5 or 6 yrs iv suffered with excessive sweating. this is most often on the back, chest, head, sometimes legs and groin area. social events often trigger this and with it comes shortness of breath, almost where i cant breath. i can often feel my heart racing and generally a feeling of "need to get out". i have kids and find it almost impossible to attend functions such as school plays, fairs, partys etc.. where there are loads of people and often crowded short spaces. i can talk to people and most often use this to fight the sweating but often end up feeling more self consience. i hate myself and feel im letting my kids down. i havent been to the gp as never felt it was a medical problem. please help.

Hi, it sounds like you may have social anxiety. I'm 26 with two kids and I have the exact same problem. You should check out www.social-anxiety.org.uk and see if the symptoms fit. If they do then you should definitely see your doctor to be referred for therapy.

Im 16 and was diagnosed with pectus excacatum in feb. I don't have a very severe case but the "dip" in my chest is noticeable n my ribs and colllar bone are dodgy. cosmetically it doesn't bother me but i suffer shortness of breath, easily get stiches when exercising and suffer the same sensation of my chest closing in on itself. i am also very skinny but i eat loads i also thought this was just natural until i read this page.

I keep getting the same symptoms - numbness in my arms or legs now and again, feeling nauseous, chest and arm pains and shortness of breath along with palpitations. I have been diagnosed with anaemia and anxiety too so I don't think that you have anything seriously wrong with you. It is just anxiety and I deal with it by doing something soothing before going to sleep every night, such as watching television or reading a book. I also only go to bed when I'm ready to go to sleep because it allows less time to lay in bed and be bothered by these symptoms. Trust me, it helps

i have sarcoidosis i have had it for 21years i have a simalar problem i have gained weight im ill all the time some worse times than other i found the only thing that helps are steroids and these in turn have side effects its not a pleasant disease but you can live with it just remember theres always someone worse of than yourself

I am 15 years old. I have had an enlargement of the breasts a couple years now, but I always thought it was because of puberty. Now, I am realizing that the cancer symptoms are some symptoms I have. For example, shortness of breath. I remember that when I was a child and until I was about 12 years old, I could run and never get tired. Now, I get tired really fast. I am not out of shape because I am on the high school team and we have conditioning every day. I have always thought that the things next to my left testicle were blood veins, because it felt like it, now I am getting uncertain.

I swell up horribly after my boyfriend ejaculates in me. It makes going to the restroom after an excruciating experience, being that the urine burns the swollen part from my vagina. It usually takes 24 hours for the swelling to go completely down, taking Benadryl does not help either. My OBGYN recommended my partner and I use a non-latex condom and seeing if I still react with a barrier. If I do not, that is a good thing and a bad thing all in all. The bad thing is that this would mean I do have Seminal Plasma Hypersensitivity. This is fine now, but when the time comes that we are trying to get pregnant and can't use condoms, I am worried about how bad the reactions will be. Does anyone know if this rare allergy causes infertility? How extreme can these reactions get? Has anyone ever had a severe reaction where they have shortness of breath or hives?
