they could just be skin tags or genital warts, i had this problem and found that treating them with warticon solved the problem. u can get this from your GP. I hope this helps

I am a 29year old female. In 2008 I noticed about 4 growths on my labia, so I went to get it checked out in my local GUM/STI clinic, having been reviewed by the Head Consultant, I was told they werent genital warts but that they didn’t know what they were. I asked could it be the possibility of ingrown hairs due to shaving. I got 'maybe' as a reply. However to this day, I have never found anything on the internet that is indicative of my symptoms, no forums, no pictures etc… and although I should be happy that the consultant never found concern for the growths to be investigated further, to this day I’ve never been happy with this response I was given, & now in the last number of years the growths have multiplied. The growths are black in appearance, soft, the size of a large pinhead, there is no pain, no discomfort and if they rupture due to me attempting to squeeze them or because of shaving they leak thick black blood, but they never disappear. I am concerned that they have multiplied and would like a more definitive answer however because of the small town I live in, the embarrassment of having to go back to my local STI clinic is more than I can bare and the probability is that I would be seen by the same consultant again anyhow. Any help will be gratefully appreciated it.

I'm a 39 year old male and I've had these on my scrotum for quite a few years, like yours, increasing in number over the years. The only way I can make them bleed is by aggressively picking at them, but as they are so small and flat I haven't really worried about them.

Your comments about their blood content worry me a lot. I am not a doctor but you really should get this checked out, especially if it is getting worse. If you don't want to go the the STI clinic in your town, find one in a neighboring area that you can get to. Many places (such as Planned Parenthood) are great for handling potential emergency situations like this one. If you have some kind of STI or anatomical problem, you need it taken care of ASAP. Hope it all works out for you.

The hair around my anus gets very itchy and I think I might have an ingrowing hair or a hair wrapped around one of the skin growths I have down there. This has been a problem for a long time and although I have been examined by Dr it is always put down to thrush. Some days this bothers me so much that it feels as if it is taking over my life and making me absolutely miserable.

I sometimes get that. It can be very annoying. Have you tried any creams to rub into the affected area. I would suggest using Bepanthen antiseptic cream. It is very good for getting rid of itches as mothers uses it on their new born babies if they have nappy rash however it works just the same. Give it a try.

My daughter has recurring verrucas on her her big toe we've tried everything the Doctor has prescribed and since its been ongoing for nearly 2year she is on the waiting list to have them frozen off, then a few months ago her fingernails and toenails started to change there was thick skin growths under her nails so i seen a GP and was told it was Onycholysis as her clippings came back clear, i wasn't happy with the diagnosis so i went to my GP and was told it was fungal and was given Loceryl it has been a month since starting the treatment and her nails are becoming worse! When i done her treatment today a large bit of skin fell off from under her nail, once it dried out it looked exactly like a verruca, should i bother my GP again or am i just worrying and should i give the treatment more time???

I would suggest that you may well be correct on your diagnosis of verrucae under the nails. Onycholysis is simply the nail lifting away, and the question is 'Why?' There are a couple of problems; firstly getting a diagnosis (and I suspect a podiatrist could tell you if the nail problem was the same thing rather than seeking a referral to dermatology in the first instance) and secondly - what treatment? Freezing may damage the nail and cause permanent problems, but putting up with it for perhaps quite some time may cause embarrassmentand other issues of confidence. If she is ovr the age of about 7 or 8 consider seeking help from someone/where that uses nitric acid. This treatment is quite powerful, but soaks into the wart/verruca and so is 'accurate'. It's also 'self-limiting' which means you can stop the treatment if you find it gets too sore/painful. Both of these qualities will mean that the growing 'normal' part of the nail should be protected from collateral damage often associated with treatment.

As a rule of thumb, when all nails are affected at the same time the first consideration would be that this could be a general/systemic health problem, but if only several nails are affected it could be fungal, but warts under the nails are entirely possible. You can certainly ask to see another GP, if your practice has more than one, or seek referral to a dermatologist for their opinion. If your local health services allow you to access the podiatry department you could seek their view, as they would be easily be able to advise you whether the problem was fungal or verruca/warty since they treat both of these problems in the feet - they may be able to see your daughter quicker and recommend appropriate treatment. Yours would be a good example of where posting an image would be helpful for a more accurate opinion and perhaps you could put forward this suggestion to the the team.

HRT you will solve so many of your problems, but beware of your high blood pressure docs dont like giving hrt if you have this. If you are overweight go on a strict diet NOW. best way to help with your joint pain, skin problems and your depression. Start swimming everyday if you can. The docs gave me more and more pills, plus cbt therapy, but at the end of the day getting my weight down helped the most.I had most of the same problems as you. Sadly am now 59 and not allowed HRT anymore and i REALLY miss it! Good luck!

I am 8 months pregnant and have noticed that one side of my labia has started to look lumpy and out of shape. Is this normal? It almost looks like there are growths on it.

sounds a bit like it could be genital warts. not a big deal, they can go by themselves, or you can treat outbreaks with cream, but get it checked out!

I'm 18 I've not had sex or been sexually active. I have dark skin colour, soft cauliflower like growths (not like warts I've had before on my fingers or feet) on only the left side of my labia majora, growing pretty much along in a straight line. I've had it for as long as I can remember and I think there have become more very, very slowly over time. I've researched this extensively for years and vulva cancer is the only thing that really seems to match. Does this sound like I have it? I'm really too shy to see a doctor, but it worries me a lot. There is no obvious pain, regular itching or other symptoms other than the growths.

Ok Alex, I just did a very quick bit of research on this and as you say you don't have all the classic symptoms of vulva cancer. But there are some bits of your description that worry me (probably the same bits that worry you). You say you're realy too shy to see a doctor and I am with you there but, I was recently forced by my wife to go to my doctor about symptoms I was experiencing and it's not so bad as you think. Indeed given the circumstances if you need a glass of wine or two beforehand (if your not driving) then do so. I am not advocating alcoholism here, its just that I think it is more important that you get a qualified diagnosis on this.

Some of this sounds so familiar, would love to know what my extra skin growths are-they don't seem like skin tags, more like internal skin lumps on the outside... If thatcmakes sense! Surely someone can help, please!

I have that as well but it's weird because didn't notice it before.. I only realised it recently so I was wondering whether it's always been like that or if it's just happened? Mine don't hurt either but if you pull on them thats when it hurts. It sounds ether stupid but i don't know where they've come from?!

yup. its also possible to get any of the herpes strains which can also cause growths which could be mistaken for skin tags.

Hi there, I saw the show this evening, and was particularly interested in finding out the name of the operation the girl underwent to remove her growths of endometriosis. I have the condition, and I have undergone a laparoctomy / myomectomy 10 yrs ago. The operation itself - it gets rid of all of the growths "from the root", so to speak, but it doesn't eradicate the condition; this is my understanding... I have another condition, so going under the knife for investigative ops has to be weighed up carefully. Awaiting your response. Thank you!

    How much does it cost

I have had a series of genital wart growths since I was diagnosed with it late December, since then they seem to come and go after very uncomfortable treatment with the creams. As this made my vagina very sore, I switched to the freezing treatment which seemed to work better. However, I have noticed the skin on the side of my vagina where the warts were are very sensitive now, and once after washing, a bit of the skin pilled of to reveal pink fleshy skin. Although it did not bleed, it was really horrible and emotionally stressful, since then I have refrained from sex, and although the area is still pinkish, it is healing, but is there anything I can do to help it along?

I'm 19 years old and something that's annoyed me since I can remember is the skin tag on my vagina, but until reading about this I had not known what it was. Thanks for the information and everything, but how do I get rid of it? Not too keen on wapping it out at the GP, so is it safe to do at home? Genitals aren't the best-looking things generally, but they don't need their own growths to boot - it's far too embarrassing. Please help.

I had balanitis once or twice when I was much younger, but it seemed to clear up. I'm 18 now, and have noticed in the last couple of years, a series of incredibly small whitish growths that ring the rim of the glans. Could this be a recurrence? They appear to just be tiny flaps of skin, rather than blisters or other maladies.

Hello, I think you are experiencing what is known as PPP or Pearly penile papules. Do some reasearch on them and check some pictures out to see if they resemble what your experiencing. If so there's nothing really to worry about as PPP are naturally apart of your own anatomy. I would suggest going to a sexual health clinic just to be on the safe side.

Looking at it, this appears to be exactly what I have. I've also noticed them recently (if slowly) to be receding slightly. I sincerely doubt it's anything more, I'm not sexually active. Thanks for the advice.

I haven't been sexually active for over a year. Recently I have noticed on the inside of my vagina that there are quite a few skin coloured fleshy (bumps? Growths?) some are bigger than others. I've looked at STI' and doesn't look anything like warts or herpes. I had an abnormal smear and having a repeat one today. Just wondering if you think it could be anything else.

I have growths on my foreskin, Im not sure if they are warts or not. It would be impossible for me to have a venereal disease as I've had them for a while and have never had sex. They are soft and feel like skin but some are raised about a millimetre from the surface of my foreskin. They are about two thirds of a millimetre in diameter and have craters in the middle.
