Im 15 and have been sweating from my hands for as long as i can remember.I really want to know if there is a simple way that will stop me from sweating at least for a whole or a couple of days? I really need help because my doctors don't take any notice of my hands sweating quite a lot of the time all they say is I'll grow out of it. This is also now becoming more annoying as I really really like my best friend who's a boy and he keeps wanting to hold my hand but I'm all sweaty so I keep saying no, this sweating is really affecting my social life right now as i am now also being taken the micky out of.

Hi, I am 36 and have just recently experienced excessive sweating. It only happens some evenings when I am sleeping. It can happen several times during the night, and is so bad that I am dripping wet and so is the sheets. The weird thing is, is when I wake up due to sweating, I stop sweating. What is this??? Why has it just started to happen & what can I do about it?? Any ideas? Thanks

I'm a 15 year old gill and i've been sweating excessively since i was 13. Really really badly under the arms, on the face and hands everyday and any day. I had botox injections twice to help cure the sweating temporarily but it really was very painful and stopped me sleeping for up to 3 months both times as it woke me up in fear. I haven't got the bravery to try them again and the second dose is running out and i'll be back sweating before the summer, any suggestions of what i could try next? Thank you.

I'm on an anti-depressant called Venlafaxine which works really well except for one side effect; facial sweating. My scalp is often also very sweaty but it really takes little effort for me to start sweating and being a uni student, going out a fair bit, this is extremely embarrassing. Just walking the 2 minutes from the tube station to my university gets me sweating. And if it's just remotely on the warm side I end up dripping in sweat. From what I heard most prescription medicine for this has a fair few nasty side effects and obviously isn't a long term solution. I'd be very grateful for any advice.

I too am on Venlafaxine... but I had soaking head and hair sweats before I started taking it. When I mentioned the sweats to the consultant he said that Venlafaxine is often given to women who have an oestrogen based breast cancer to stop their sweats on the medication they take. I have an underactive thyroid too which is being treated. Possibly the dosage for this is too high but I will find out on Thursday. The sweating happens everyday, It's as if my internal temperature gauge goes out of control. One moment ok then suddenly sweating, then feel hot. This can last until lunch time or later then I am so cold. Later in the day it can return again. I really do despair because I look like a drowned rat most of the time. I can stand outside in the freezing cold and still drip.

I'm getting married next year and want to control my excessive sweating so it doesn't ruin my day. Is there anything that I can take to keep it under control just for the day? I have tried all of the antiperspirants and am really dreading sweating in front of all my guests. Any ideas please

Hi Natalie Have you tried Anhydrol Forte? Its a roll on topical treatment that I have used once a week at night for 5 years now, and it stops me sweating for the whole week. I didn't too sweat badly to start with, but I also recommended it to a friend who constantly sweated, and it changed his life. You cannot shave within 24 hours of using it, and it has to be applied lightly to just the armpit (and not on the skin around it to avoid irritation), but it has been a god send. Boots sells it. Hope that helps.

There is a medicated deo you can use called Driclor, I have used to help me reduce excessive sweating. It was prescriped by my doctor. I would speak to your local GP about it and see whether it is something that could help you

Show all answers for this question

I've read that propantheline bromide can help with excessive sweating but there is some debate about the effectiveness of this. I have been using driclor for the past 2 weeks and it is making my sweating worse and not better. My GP doesn't seem willing to prescribe this but surely it is worth giving it a go to see whether it has the desire effect. Please can you advise me.

Hi. I only just saw this page, have there been any more developments with this machine or treatments for facial sweating. Can facial sweating get worse with hidrex pop 1000, and if so, are these effects reversible if treatment stops? thank you kindly

Have you used something called Driclor? Its an over the counter treatment that works for me , I sweat more on my hands as a result but I can deal with that as I can wash my hands throughout the day so they don't smell, unlike underarms! Make sure you follow the instructions properly though as it can cause rashes if not.

Hello I haven't got a problem with sweating but I have read an article recently that said that Cypress essential oil is good for sweating. The lady in the article said it had reduced the amount of sweating her hands did. I also know someone who has seen a hypnotherapist about their excessive sweating and it has helped them deal with the anxiety about it. I hope this info helps. xx

Re Ditropan I'm prescribed 10mg of this for it's intended use - relieving pressure in the bladder that causes you to wee too much, but the side effect of reduced sweating is extremely good. I 'top up' the dose with an extra 2.5mg that I buy online and no real problems with sweating in most situations. It breaks the cycle of sweating/embarressment/more sweating and that psychological boost helps with the physiological effects.

I suffer from facial sweating at the most in appropriate times. I have heard of a medication called Propanthelynes bromide. I have tried propanol with only a little effect. This sweating does effect me getting into situations where I may feel hot, I find myself trying to stay cool despite it being cold outside. I seem to feel even the slightest temperature rise . I can wake up dripping in the morning. Once the sweating starts I get self conscious and this makes it worse. I have also tried allsorts of natural solutions which are only ever temporary fixes. What can you suggest to help. My main issue is facial sweating and scalp sweating.

I have the same problem but it pours out of my head, and I work in some very hot classrooms. It really is awful, but I have tried dri-clor roll-on and odaban. I can tell that both would probably work but it's almost impossible to apply them through my hair... they may work for you though, if you have short or no hair. Just a thought. You can get them at any good chemist

i also suffer from this, its absolutley ruining my life :(

hi,I have a really bad sweating problem that occurs underneath my armpits and on my back. I am very contious of this and have tried to stop it. Many anitperspirants I have used did not work and i am really embarrased about my sweating. I am a very active person and always wear hoodies that hide my sweat. I really want to find a solution other than botox that will get rid of or help to ease my sweating. Please help.

Firstly, botox is not a practical solution to sweating but you can buy products like dricol from any chemist. This is an absolutely brilliant product and I am sure there are others like it. I only use it about once per week to once per fortnight and that is enough to completely stop me sweating. Please anyone who is suffering from excessive sweating just try this, you can buy it off the shelf at boots and it changed my life

Pop to the chemist and you can buy a roll on solution called 'Anhydrol Forte' its around £4 and changed my life!! The first few times you use it it itches like hell. It's not the easiest thing to get used to but its well worth it! Your pharmacist will advise you how to use it so you have no need to visit the Docs, plus its cheaper than a prescription anyway BONUS!! Good luck with it sweet!

My sweating is completely different from the comments above. Mine is excessive sweating from the hands, i can be cold, hot, worried, calm, it isn't my temperature that affects my hands sweating. They just sweat most of the time, actually dripping wet. I leave wet patches on whatever i touch. It completely gets me down and definately holds me back from doing Alot!

My mum has suffered with extreme sweating for many years, and it got so bad when she was younger that she has actually had sympathectamies on her armpits, hands and feet. Unfortuately, it looks like I too have the same condition as I have very sweaty hands, armpits and back, and it really stops me from working at times, especially when I sit exams in summer with my hands. It also really gets me down as as well as the excessive sweating armpits, it is extremely hard to control body odour. I have been to my GP numerous times, but he does not accept sweating as a major problem, even though I have nearly passed out many times due to the sweating, and because of this, I have to suffer. I really need help with this as it is really dragging me down as I just want people to stop joking about how much I sweat, especially as it isn't my fault. Please help

Hello, please help me! I am 21 years old and have had issues with excessive sweating for years. Within half hour of getting out of the shower, I will begin sweating all over. I am mostly effected by the facial sweating, with make-up or without, my face will shine within minutes of washing and progressively get worse throughout the day. If there is anything people have tried and found to work, please let me know. Without sounding too dramatic, this is seriously effecting my life, I am fed up of feeling so insecure and just want to feel confident in how I look. Please help, thank you.

Hi, Im 20 and have been suffering from excessive sweating for most of my life and it got worse when i hit puberty. doctors are always blaming my underactive thyroid, but my thyroid levels are normal and controlled by levothyroxine. The sweating is taking over my life. I am constantly aware of it as i am in university studying nursing. when im on placement as a student nurse it affects my confidence in being in such a close proximity to patients, their families and other staff members.i have been prescribed driclor, zeasorb etc etc and found that nothing seems to work. The sweating is all over my body and is worse around my face and neck which also causes me to become very spotty. I want to be able to go to uni without worrying about sweating and looking spotty.
