I had a similar condition on my legs - right down the front of my shins on each leg for years and years. The itching was so great that I couldn't resist it, even though it made it worse. After being prescribed loads of creams, the only one that actually cleared it up is called Dermovate cream. Sometimes it breaks out again, but a couple of days of this cream sees it off. Good luck.

I have folliculitis on my legs and have finally found a remedy that works. My doctor has been worse than useless! I have about a litre of water each day containing 4 teaspoons organic cider vinegar, I drink it whenever I am thirsty. I also drink other things (Tea, juice, plain water etc) and I use cotton wool to spread cider vinegar across my legs on itchy spots. and it is working, workiing very well. This last week I have slept through with no itching, I have no new breakouts and my legs are beginning to heal. I am amazed!! Oh by the way, I don't smoke and I don't eat sweets and have very little sugar in my diet or white bread or wheat.

My husbands legs ( from knees to ankle) are swollen. He is in so much pain that sometimes it's unbearable pain. He's been seen by the doctors who keep giving him special socks to wear to reduce the swelling, which it does for a couple of hours but then the swelling returns when he walks. He can't walk for long, can't stand for long. He has been advised by the doctor that he needs to keep his legs elevated. This can be tough as he works in an office. He's struggling to sleep as he's in constant pain. The doctors have now told him to lose weight to see if that maybe the cause, but he's unable to exercise as the swelling returns. His legs have now been swollen for 3 weeks he's been to see the doctor again who have now said they will refer him to have X-rays. He is struggling a lot. We have a 2year old daughter and she's missing out on having fun with her daddy. His right calf has discoloured, it's like a dark purple colour again the doctors can't do anything for him. He's gaining weight as he can't walk for long, he can't sleep at night, to get through the night he eats to try to ignore the pain. It is now affecting our marriage. Can you please help us. PLease help my husband, he is only 33, when this problem started 4 years ago he was told the doctors can't do anything, he was advised to maybe have his legs amputated. That is not an option. Please can you help him and diagnose him. The doctors have said they will register him disabled So that we can get financials help as he's unable to work for long hours.

I had the same problem after my 3rd child (2nd birth, twins 1st). I was 42, I was tested for everything from lupus to rheumatiod arthritis. Western medicine has no idea what it is (ideopathic). I found relief from acupuncture, supplements of horse chestnut and manjistha (an auyervedic lymph cleanse supplement and getting tested for food sensitivities had the biggest impact. I found I was sensitive to gluten, dairy, eggs, bananas and beef. I have cut out the food and had a tremendous improvement. Not totally resolved but much better on a day to day basis.

I'm having exactly the same symptoms and as you say, nothing seems to be resolved at doctors with it, despite having high blood pressure, diabetes and coronary heart disease run in family, does anyone even care at my doctors I sometimes wonder.

I am 29 years old, overweight, but do keep fit by boxing, running, and cross training, but my right leg is bigger than my left, and if I press into the skin, I leave a ruddy great big indentation. My legs have been like this since my early teens, but mum didn't see the point in taking me to the doctor (as she has swelling in her legs, but a lot more prominant than mine). Is there anything I can do to prevent this? or is the damage done?

Hey, My dad is type 2 diabetic, and has been for 2 years now. He is overweight and suffers all kinds of problems. There is one problem on the bottom parts of his legs he has an aggressive purple swelling. There is also like tiny sacs of what i believe to be water all over the bruising. He has been to his GP but all they prescribe to him is E45 cream as sometimes the bruising is dry. It has caused the skin on his legs to be extremely tight and this has made it extremely uncomfortable to put pressure on. I am very worried and hope someone can help me. Many Thanks Lauren.

Hi, I have lived with lympheodema since birth so know what you are going through. One of the main things to remember with this condition is to clean thoroughly and massage. There are many different ways to help. I found that support stockings where too painful as I also suffer from varicose veins so I have been given farrow wraps made to measure by the clinic I go to in London. I don't need to wear them all the time so its easier in warmer weather. They are great as they are velcro so you can adjust the depending on the swelling at different times of the day. Hope this helps x

I am 53 and have had varicoise veins and spider veins on my legs since my 20's. In the last year they have gotten very bad on my right thigh area. I also have cut into a vein around my right leg and it had sprayed blood all over like a fountain for like 10 minutes. I put compression on it and it stopped. My legs feel very tight and I have gone for saline injections in the past that never seem to work. I want the swelling to go down in my right leg, its become very lump and really hurts on certain lumps. What can i have done besides traditional stripping? Thanks

The operation was six days ago and I have been taking meds for three days after my release. Will the swelling go down.

The swelling will go down, it just takes a while, I found after my recent hydrocele operation that after about four weeks the swelling reduces down alot and you can walk normally again. Warm baths can be a nice relief, keep an eye out for your wound opening up and for infection, it took 3 weeks of antibiotics for mine to go away and for the wound to seal completely. It does take quite a while for everything to go back to normal size though.

It will definately go away - 3-4 weeks

Hi I am 25 and have really bad White vaginal discharge. It soaks my underwear every day. I am also very swollen and sore. Sex is very painful at the moment due to the swelling and I can't go out for to long as I get so uncomfortable and painful. I have tried thrush creams and wearing loose cotton underwear and clothes. I noticed it started when u had my son 4 years ago. I had stitches when I had him and most of the swelling usually starts at the end of the scar. The swelling has been there for about 3 months and the pain too. Please help.

I have had bursitis in both hips for 2 years now. I am 33. I have found that Arnica gel is the most effective way of dealing with the pain and swelling. I use it twice a day or more if I can. It is immediate relief! I also just got diagnosed with active Epstein Barr. Most people have it dormant in their bodies but for some it reactivates during times of sickness or stress. I am hopeing the keeping it under control will help the bursitis as it causes all kinds of inflammation. The naturopathic doctor I am seeing gave me a supplement called Clear Heat which is really helping with aches and pains in my legs and the bursitis in my hips. Taking magnesium helps with leg cramps which I get also. I also sleep with an ice bag on my hip at night which helps tremendously with heat and swelling and makes it feel much better.

I suffer from Lymphodema in the lower left leg after conatcting Strep A Septacemia (April 09). I had severe swelling when I left the hospital. Once the severe swelling subsided I found my leg swelled if I did not move regulary. The only treatment I was offered (that worked) were compression socks which helped to a certain extent. I only used these for a few months and just put up with minimal swelling. In February I went on the Cambridge Diet and I lost 3 stone and that coupled with drinking 4 litres of water a day has resulted in no swelling at all, although the leg (mainly the ankle) are only slightly bigger than the right. Although the programme highlighted the serverity of the conbdition it was disapointing that drinking water can help such a condition. Enjoying the series!

Did you have swelling with the glycolic acid? Mine have not scabbed yet, I think it is getting smaller, put on 3 days now. However it is really swelling all around the area.

Your issues sound exactly like mine. The methicillin resistant staph infection spread from the knee down on both legs. I finally was hospitalized, given large amounts of IV antibiotics and slept most of the time. The sleep seemed to be crucial for my recovery. I spent 3 more months on IV antibiotics at home and now get bicillin injections every three weeks. Two weeks ago they swelled up again. I realized there were two things in common with the last time they swelled, I had a bad urinary tract infection and wasn't sleeping well. Fortunately I have a doctor who listens. He treated the UTI aggressively, prescribed a diuretic (we finally found that bumex worked in pill form so no more lasix IVs) and gave me valium to help me sleep. I kept my legs elevated above the level of my heart. The swelling disappeared in a couple of days after I got two good night's sleep and let the diuretic and antibiotics do their job. We still don't know the specific underlying cause but now I know if I can get the swelling down quickly I can avoid months of misery. The pain was so intense sleep was hard but it is crucial. Without sleep your body can't repair itself.
